Why Building a Sustainable Food Supply Chain Means Ending Factory Farming | Eater

"In 2013, researcher Mark Post produced a burger grown from cow stem cells cultivated into strips of muscle fiber — a landmark proof-of-concept that helped launch the cultured (cell-based) meat field, spurring startups worldwide to grow meatballs, seafood, gelatin and other products from animal cells and prompting forecasts that lab-grown and plant-based options could supply a large share of future meat; the demonstration underscored the promise of meat without conventional livestock while also highlighting persistent challenges around scaling, cost, regulation, and consumer acceptance." - Rebecca Flint Marx

The Trials of Creating Vegan, Kosher, Halal, Meat-Free Gelatin | Eater

"The research lab led by Mark Post at this Dutch university produced a high-profile demonstration of cultured meat in 2013 by creating and eating the world's first lab-grown hamburger, helping to launch public and scientific interest in tissue-engineered meat." - Sujata Gupta

Had a fantastic time in Maastricht this weekend. Great old city with plenty to do, see and eat. Also if you're a big fan if André Rieu, then I can highly recommend his show in Maastricht which is his home city.

If you want to study anything STEM related, go to literally any other university, trust me. It lacks organization and professors that can actually teach and explain properly. The exams are very difficult, but that wouldn't be a problem if we had study materials- which we don't. So, friendly advice, if you value your mental health, don't come here :). The city is amazing, the university, on the other hand.... isn't.

Don’t go there if you plan to study. I am a student of 4 years at the fpn faculty and this is my last straw. The BA cursus is 3 years but lots of students (me included) had to take another year because we are ALL burned out. They expect us to be perfect and meet all deadlines though they can’t even publish results on time. You’ll have (at best) to wait a month for exam results meanwhile other universities take a week. When they publish results you cannot be sure whether or not those are valid as it happened that they messed up more than once (hello action course coordinators) but WE are supposed to be perfect. When they actually publish the true results, you get less than ten days to study for the resit, course coordinators won’t even fake empathy, they be telling you it’s enough days to be ready for the resit (although you actually have other exams to prepare at the same time). Happened too that they actually mess up the platform used for taking the exam, making it a practice exam and then putting a resit on the 29th of July. You cannot take breaks here. I’ll have to take the resit on my vacations, the ones I was dreaming the whole year about. The only upside is the presence of academic advisors, they are the few people left there with basic human empathy and they are angels. If you care about yourself and your mental health then don’t come study here. Can’t wait to change universities for the master. I don’t know if this is the case for all faculties but if you plan to study psychology go somewhere else

Not recommendations to international students. 1. No decent skills learned. 2. No internship opportunities 3. No job opportunities after graduation. Advertising is different from the practices

The Executive MBA was a very valuable experience for me. I learned a lot about different aspects of business, and I also had the opportunity to network with other finance professionals. The faculty were great, and they really helped me to understand the material.

I studied a MSc STEM degree and that was a massive mistake to choose Maastricht. Not many people are supportive there, my course was absolutely chaotic and the uni is not THAT international, environmentally friendly or supportive as they say... I chose to leave and do my course at another university because that was just a waste of time.

Great city, but it's very difficult and stressful to find a room. My bachelor was difficult, I didn't find out until mid July whether I could continue to second year, and then it was impossible to find housing. By the end of August I haven't found a room, the only possibility was to rent a studio for 1500 euros, so I had to go back home.
