What an incredible place, I loved the food and service. My son and I simply love the food and the atmosphere. Ms Mabel is very friendly and welcoming. Great place, can wait to try their jumbo shrimp and brisket!

Mabel’s is undoubtedly THE BEST soul food restaurant I can find in my area. Everything I order reminds me of my childhood and my grandmother. Favorite dishes: fried pickles, fried catfish ❤️❤️, fried wings, bbq ribs, and the sweet potatoes. The last time we were there, we sampled a new addition to her menu and O-M-G. It is the perfect blend of sweet potatoes and cornbread and it was so good o had to write my name on mine to keep the kids from eating all of it. Run - don’t walk - to try this cornbread!! Absolutely Delicious! My husband and I recently visited Mabel’s Barbeque, and it was hands-down one of the best soul food dining experiences we’ve had in a long time. The moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and the comforting aroma of home-cooked goodness. The food was incredible — the ribs were perfectly seasoned, hearty, and full of flavor. The breaded mushrooms were crispy on the outside and juicy inside, the potato salad was creamy and rich, and the collard greens tasted just like something your grandma would make on Sunday. Everything was clearly made with love and care. The service was just as wonderful as the food. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made sure we felt right at home. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, and Ms. Mabel herself sat and chatted with us! If you’re looking for authentic soul food that hits all the right notes, this is the place. We’ll definitely be back when we’re in the area — and next time, we’re saving room for dessert!

Best ribs I’ve had in a long time. Not a super strong smoke, but perfectly done and masterfully finished with a nice char so you get a slightly crunchy bite. The owner is very engaging and charming. Everything is home made. Zero factories involved here. Pure love of food.

Walked in one a random Sunday never had been there before a very nice lady came over and helped us decide what to get off the menu. After ordering we was told we would have to wait 20 mins which seemed ok for a restaurant and it was done in less time then that. But after eating there we wish we got even more food to try it was hands down the best ribs I’ve had in years and my gf said she’s never had chicken that good.

With that being said, it is definitely one of the BEST Soul food places I have ever visited. With that being said the restaurant isn't big, only has 2 or 3 sit down tables. But that will not stop us from going again, was not expecting a 5 star looking restaurant went there for delicious food and that's exactly what we got. Service was prompt, we ordered 20 minutes ahead for pick up and it was ready by the time we arrived, in and out in less than 2 minutes. You get 2 sides with your entree, also very reasonably priced (Considering the portion of food you get). Not to mention it is ABSOLUTELY Amazing. Everything is seasoned and flavorful. What we ordered: 1/2 Ribs Fried Whiting Fish Sides 1: Green beans, sweet potato. Sides 2: Collard greens, potato salad. Highly recommended.

I'm glad I found this place! Omg it's the warmest atmosphere, nicest decor and the best staff to have for ANY business. It was VERY Welcoming. Now on to the food....I ordered Fried Chicken Wings, Collard Greens, Yams and a piece of cornbread. I'm going into detail cause it matters...so wings? FIRE! I asked for them to be fried hard and they were. Nicely seasoned and crispy. U can tell they clean their chicken well and the grease was still clean even at ordering 30 mins before close. The grease on the chicken did NOT taste like it was burnt or old . Yams were perfect. It tastes like how ALL Yams should. Sweet, soft, "syrupy" and not undercooked. No Yams should have a crunch. Greens were good as well! Perfectly seasoned yet again. Only thing I would change if any (and this is just for me) is to remove some of the greens water but again VERY tasty and I ordered almost at the close of business. Cornbread has excellent flavor. A little on the dry side for me but I would still order it because it has good flavor. If i took it home i would just add butter and BOOM! All and all...I WILL be coming back and trying some other dishes. I appreciate the warm welcome, service AND the FOOD. Oh and they have their own sauce! THAT was tasty as well...I would use that on my ribs or something next time. It's just not for my chicken. Food is even priced at the right price point to not feel overcharged. I spent under $20 for the entire platter. 10/10 from me. NGL

Delicious Soul Food in West Chester! Thank you, Mrs. Mabel and Starr for a wonderful meal today! The catfish was so delicious and seasoned perfectly! I love your collard greens and baked beans! I have to get it every time! My husband’s ribs and chicken wings were so wonderful too! We had to get one of each! Potato salad and macaroni salad are for round two tonight with our leftovers. We will be back!

One of us wanted some bbq so we finally made it to Mabel's. We thought our mid-afternoon stop would result in faster service but we were behind a large order resulting in a 20 min wait. We ordered to go ribs, bbq chicken and sides-mac and cheese, baked beans, Cole slaw and potato salad. We also ordered the hush puppies. Overall, we like the food and would be back for more. The ribs were tender but a bit short on smoke. The chicken legs and were delicious with the meat falling from the bone but still moist. The hush puppies were tasty and not. heavy but I like them just a bit larger for a smaller crust to middle ratio. The Mac and cheese , as another Yelper has mentioned, was GREAT- the pasta was not overcooked, the sauce was smooth, and there were crunchy bits of topping. The Cole slaw was our least favorite, a bit too soupy and the beans were good but the beans themselves were a bit mushy. The best side for one of us was the potato salad which tasted like HIS mom's so of course that one topped the list. We did takeout but there was plenty of seating in the adjacent dining room.

Inflation has gotten the best of most places and sadly, this is another one. I have been ordering from Mabel's on and off for years. The last time I stopped ordering because the workers seemed to be comfortable nonchalantly eating the food and talking around customers. A few years later I saw that Mabel's expanded so I gave it another chance. A few weeks ago I ordered two flounder platters and two cat fish platters. The total was over $60 since the platters are nearly $20 now. The cat fish was completely burnt and the breading was coming off. The founder was good so I chalked it up to maybe they were just having an off night. Today was the last time I will be ordering from here. I ordered two flounder platters which came to $35 for the flounder and two sides. The flounder is PAPER THIN. I understand inflation is hiking up grocery prices but I hate how these restaurants are charging more for lower quality. The fish was clearly cut in half. So the prices are nearly $5 more than they used to be and they are cutting regular pieces of fish in half to make more money. There is no excuse for this. Check out the pictures if you need to see some evidence. I will not be ordering from here again.

I ordered the brisket sandwich. It was flippin' delicious Maddy was my server/ bartender. She was so sweet. Answered all of my questions. I asked to have an additional order take out. I asked to have it wrapped a specific way since it was going into a cooler while I'm traveling. She was so accommodating. I highly recommend this place but be sure to sit with Maddy. Mabel is a lovely woman and she makes a mean bbq and sides. We ordered a bunch of stuff to share and were thoroughly happy. Give her your business!

I recently stopped in and was dissapointed with the cleanliness. A person walked in and was very dirty I guess from work, took cash from his uniform pocket, I can only assume he was a sanitation worker since he was wearing a uniform from Waste Management. To make a long story short the person who took the dirty money, went to check on my food I just left and went somewhere else.

My grandson and I had the pleasure of experiencing Mabel's and found the food was fresh and cooked to order. The chicken wings are cooked to perfection and well seasoned. The ribs are meaty and the sauce is tasty. It's worth the visit, just call your order in early because it takes a while for the items cooked to order.

So glad that I found a black owned bbq spot! The restaurant was nice and the owner is so nice and friendly! Music was incredible and it smells delicious as soon as you walk in. We got the chicken/rib combo and both meats were so tender and delicious. The crunch on the chicken was just what I wanted. We also got the cornbread which was really good. Wasn't a big fan of the Mac and cheese but overall I really enjoyed this spot. Will definitely be going back

We stopped by on a Sunday after a visit to Linvilla. The availability of menu items were limited because they were also catering an event off-site. I had the ribs, my husband had catfish and brisket sandwiches. We shared the sides: collard greens, sweet potatoes, mac and cheese, and potato salad. Everything was delicious. Great portions for the prices. Service was good. They didn't have any drinks because of the catering event but allowed us to bring in sodas we purchased from Wawa.

The people who work here are very nice but I wasn't the biggest fan of their food. The Mac n Cheese was so peppery that it was of putting. The breading for the wings were okay but the meat was under the dry side. They had a good coleslaw. I wish the ribs had some kind of smokiness element to them but they were just okay.

The BBQ and service was amazing! Gotta order early as by 5:30 a lot is sold out. So good- moving from KC this is one of the best!

Mabel's Barbeque is 5 stars across the board. My co-worker and I stumbled on this small restaurant as we were getting coffee in the morning and remembered to come back for lunch. Menus are posted on the wall and you pay after you consume your food. The owner greeted us and asked us if we enjoyed the food afterwards and engaged us in conversation and provided some history on the establishment. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, a piece of cornbread, and a water. The total was around $12. The cornbread was massive measuring around 3"x3"x3". It was absolutely delicious and moist. The pulled pork was bare with bbq sauce on the side. This as well was cooked to perfection. The sauce was my spicy, but added a perfect touch of sweet to the sandwich. This is the best bbq I have had in awhile. I am saddened I don't live closer or I would be a frequent customer. The inside is clean and homey. It is on the smaller side with a few tables, but your eyes start to burn a bit as I don't think the exhaust was on in the kitchen. We stayed for about 35 minutes and my eyes started to feel the irritation about 20 minutes in. It wasn't too bad, but was still there. I think it was just a matter of not putting the exhaust on. Food and service was amazing!

Friendly staff, and the food (Ribs, Potato salad, mac'n cheese) was great! Parking kinda sucks, its a small shopping center...but its worth the struggle. I'm going back for more.

The dinner was delicious as always. My daughter requested that we enter this restaurant as our go to place for soul food. I had the chicken wing dinner with Mac & cheese / greens...baby girl had fried whiting fish with mAc & cheese /greens! The family staff were inviting and warm. If you happen to be in West Chester, treat yourself to some good ole Soul food at this establishment.

Mabel put together a large order on relatively short notice of Brisket, Ribs & Mac N Cheese for my shop BBQ. Was absolutely great, the meats were on point, the ribs disappeared before I could get seconds! The Mac N Cheese was probably the best I've ever had. She was super easy to deal with & well worth the price. This is THE legit BBQ spot in the area.

SO GOOD! Got the half rack platter with 2 sides. Wanted to try potato salad and mac-n-cheese on the first visit because they seemed the most basic staples, but they were out of potato salad so it was 2 macs. Next time we will branch out because the collard greens and okra need sampling. Mac-n-cheese was good though. A little Velveeta-y taste to it, which I didn't like as much but not too much to spoil it. It was still very good, and perfectly cooked (not mushy, not too creamy, not dry, no weird seasoning, not underseasoned, just right). As mentioned above, the ribs were WONDERFUL! 5 stars right there for the ribs alone. Sauce came on them and it was PERFECT. Great taste, not too much, not too little, meat flavor came through deliciously, just amazingly spot-on the taste buds. YUM! Cornbread was good. 4 stars for cornbread. Not the best I've ever had (that would be French Quarter Bistro in Royersford), but not the worst either by any means. Also sampled the brisket sandwich, which was also very good. They serve it just brisket slices on a roll, with sauce and meat juice on the side. The sauce on this one somehow tasted different from the sauce on the ribs. The brisket sauce was spicey while I tasted no real spice, but more sweetness, on the sauce that came on the ribs. Not sure if it's different, a different batch, or what? I REALLY liked the sauce on the ribs, but the stuff on the brisket was too spicey for me. The brisket was tender and very good, but it did not have as meaty or smokey a flavor as the ribs. Many local BBQ places screw up brisket, so I have to say Mabel's brisket is leagues above most around here, but to me, their star is the ribs, by far. Those were all the options this round, but we will be back! I want to definitely taste many other sides, and that 7up cake is calling my name. DREAMING about more of those ribs right now! YUM YUM YUM double-YUM! Only complaint was that it was a 20min wait for the food. They were doing other prep work, but not filling other orders, so it wasn't clear why our order couldn't be filled right away. Would have appreciated having the order filled faster in the middle of a work day. The food is great, but the wait was frustrating. * * * TIP * * * I was confused about the c-card situ because old reviews mentioned they didn't take them, yet a newer one said she took Apple Pay, so officially, let me announce, they take c-cards now. * * * TIP * * * As others have mentioned, yes, strip mall, a small one, easy to miss along fast-paced Market Street, and since it's on the one-way stretch, you'll have to pass it and turn around at the Paoli Pike left-hand turn off, to take Gay Street back down, then N Worthington, then back on Market for another pass. Keep eyes peeled, and keep far left as you approach and you will catch it on your first pass.

Candied Yams, Fried Chicken, and Mac and cheese. $15 platters ! So worth it! Took about 30 minutes to wait for the food but quick and friendly customer service, clean, and fulfilling. Good eats for sure. Definitely coming back. Second favorite soul food place!

Excellent food and service! Very nice staff, serving wonderful soul food. We had fried chicken, ribs, potato salad and collard greens-all perfect. The sweet potato pie was great as well. This will be our go to place for a great meal.

Most of the time when I order out it doesn't feel like I'm eating something someone else cooked. In the suburbs, restaurant food often feels mass produced or injected with fat and msg. But Mabel's actually feels like you're eating someone else's home cooking , someone who cooks really really delicious food. You really can taste the love in this food and see how hard people are working from the moment you place an order. This is a small business committed to providing a high quality product that really does enrich the landscape of West Chester. Mac and Cheese and bbq chicken are exceptional.

After driving by Mabel's too many times to count, last night we decided to stop in to try some take out. The place, although small with just about 5- 8 tables, is clean and inviting. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We like to sample several items when eating barbecue. Unfortunately, they didn't have a sampler that covered the things we wanted to try so they put it together at a very reasonable price (some BBQ staples are only offered in sandwich form). We brought home a medium size order of ribs, beef brisket, pulled pork, Mac & cheese, beans and their house made BBQ sauce. The cole slaw never made it in the bag but that was fine. Let's start with the highlight - the brisket. Lean, thin cut and served with au jus. Amazing. Next up is the beans. Sweet yet spicy - delicious. The mac & cheese was good as was the pulled pork. We liked their BBQ sauce. The ribs were tender and the meat fell off the bone. I originally thought they were par boiled and not smoked but confirmed they are. We liked them. In an area where great BBQ is hard to find close by, or for that matter in the Philly area, Mabel's is a great choice in the Western Suburbs. We most certainly will be back for a brisket sandwich. Of that you can be sure.

I just had Mabel's today and I have 1 word to describe this experience... Fantastic . The fish was fresh and plentiful and the greens were delicious and the potato salad was delicious too.

You can easily drive past this restaurant because it's on a busy road so be mindful of that. Everyone was friendly. I ordered 1 BBQ chicken & rib combo platter with a side of collards and mac ,& cheese and 1 Fried Chicken platter with side of collards and sweet potatoes. *BBQ Chicken & Ribs were dry and collards had too many hot pepper seeds but tender. Mac & , cheese had visible chunks of unmelted cheese with very little flavor. The sweet potatoes were flavorful. The fried chicken was very dry and skin was greasy to the taste. I will visit another time. Perhaps, it was an "off" day (we've all had that experience).

Well, we've now had our first experience at Mabel's, and I have to say, I'm sorry that we hadn't stopped in sooner! It's odd...we're big fans of barbecue and have lived in West Chester four years (which is distinctly lacking in barbecue establishments), but had only learned about Mabel's in the past year, and now finally made it in. It's a very small place, so keep this in mind if you're dining in. We lucked out and got a table for four at 7pm on a Saturday night, so that was a good start! Ribs were the most popular order of the night, but we also enjoyed the chicken (barbecued, not fried...that'll be sampled next time) in addition to sides of mac n' cheese, potato salad, collard greens, green beans, and breaded mushrooms. Everything was great! Both the ribs and the chicken were moist, tender and tasty. I've seen reviews from people who bitch about a lack of barbecue sauce...which for us was brushed perfectly onto the meat, as opposed to served on the side or in bottles on the table, and I had no desire for any extra sauce. For me, barbecue sauce is an optional accoutrement to good barbecue, and the better the barbecue, the less sauce is needed. The brushed-on sauce was a great compliment to the meat, but nothing additional was needed. We had zero leftovers...every rib bone was clean and dry, and all the side dishes were completely emptied. One of the best parts of the experience was as we were finishing our meal and the evening's business was starting to wind down, Mabel sat down at the table next to us, and we had a delightful conversation with her. We always enjoy chatting with the owners of independent restaurants, and Mabel was no exception...just an absolutely sweet lady; we really enjoyed meeting her, trading stories and learning a bit about her, her family and the restaurant. We're already looking forward to our next meal at Mabel's and highly recommend stopping in for a leisurely meal or some takeout whenever you have the chance!

Our food was hot, fresh, and absolutely delicious. We were so full from the generous sized portions, that we ended up with food to take home. I can't wait to go back!!!

The fried chicken wings took me straight back to the Southside of Chicago! Great flavor and the sauce was reminiscent of Harold's. Tasty food and friendly service.

I lived in West Chester for 5 years and I waited until the last month to try Mabel's. From the outside Mabel's isn't that exciting but when it gets in your mouth, wow. Mabel's has the best BBQ chicken I've ever had, I think about it daily!

The food was good not the greatest but the ribs were tender per my boyfriend so he enjoyed it but would of liked some sauce on the side The Mac and cheese was not creamy cheesy just coagulated and oily but I really enjoyed it the next day and the potatoes salad was bland The seven up cake was good had the perfect homemade taste Fried chicken wings were great Corn bread was standard nothing special could of used some moistness and honey

1st time O was ever there. 3 others that were there wzs their first time too. Great pulled pork sandwich. Sauce on side was excellent! Best fried pickles i have ever had! Will try other stuff soon. Really nice people run the place.

Decided to search for Barbecue since I'm new to the area and found this charm!! I ordered the ribs and chicken along with greens and Mac and cheese!! Every morsel was amazing. I placed my order over the phone. My order was ready at the scheduled pick up time. I will definitely be back!!

We ended up at Mabel's tonight because our regular barbecue place was closing early and I have to say, now we've found our new place. The ribs...wow, just wow! They were not just amazingly tender they were so flavorful. We got collard greens and beans for our sides. You could tell that the collard greens were slow cooked because the flavor was ALL the way through those greens...again, just wow! The beans had a great flavor and weren't too thick. Our daughter got the pulled pork sandwich with a side of Mac and Cheese. Both were really good. The sandwich comes on a long roll so it's a pretty decent size! I'd post pictures but there aren't any! Once we started eating we didn't stop :) I highly recommend this restaurant for true barbecue lovers. The flavor is hard to beat!

Found this on a road trip. So glad we did! Quiet little place with just a few tables. Warm, friendly service. We ordered the fried pickle chips and hushpuppies to start. Perfectly fried deliciousness. For meals it was the pulled pork sandwich and the fried flounder sandwich with sides of mac n cheese and sweet potatoes. The pork was so juicy and tender. The flounder was lightly fried and tasted like heaven. Sweet potatoes were by far, the best I have ever had! Thanks Mabel's for the great meal!!!

Best food spot. Mac and cheese needs some help, but compared to the quality you get in west Chester they are the best hands down! You can actually taste the soul in the food. Food in west Chester is trash overall so this is a gem.

I have eaten barbecue all through the south and I have never tasted a brisket or chicken that is as good as Mabel's. Really amazing. I wish I knew how they make brisket!

Ordered catering for a work event. Our menu included brisket, ribs, BBQ chicken, coleslaw, green beans, and mac n cheese. Food arrived on time and was absolutely delicious. Several people asked where to find this place. Would recommend without hesitation.

Was super excited to try the food... got it to go. We ordered the chicken and rib combo, flounder, and wings. Sides were cornbread, cabbage, collard greens, and macaroni with cheese. Pretty darn tasty just a little heavy handed with the salt. The mac, cornbread, and greens were by far my favorites! Next I'm definitely going to try the whiting!

Awesome food and unusually nice staff! Mabel cares and loves serving her food. I went in for a bite while spending time at the local hospital and noticed I forgot my wallet. I asked if we could use Apple Pay and not only was Mabel excited to try this out for the first time, she was reassuring by saying that if it didn't work I would just need to come back to pay after the fact. That left a great impression on me and I will always remember Mabel's. This is not fast food nor will it tastes pre cooked. Decide if you have time for great BBQ and eats and if so, you will not go disappointed. Food is 4.5 stars, friendliness is 5 stars

Outstanding homemade Southern BBQ. Mabel and her crew are so sweet and welcoming. You can tell how much they care about the quality there and how much pride Mabel puts into her cooking. Just be prepared to wait because Mabel wants to make sure your food is made fresh, so don't expect to just pop in and get a meal. It takes time to do BBQ right, so deal with it. I did the half slab of ribs with coleslaw, Mac n cheese, and cornbread today. The ribs were cooked great with a nice char on the ends, the right amount of sauce, and very tender. The coleslaw was delicious, but the Mac and cheese stole the show. Definitely one of the best I've ever had, sooooo good and of course homemade. The prices are fair and the portions are too. You get your money's worth both in quantity and quality. I've tried several BBQ spots in Chesco, and Mabel's is definitely the best.

Searched Yelp for some soul food in this area because I am new around here. Found this soul food gem on yelp. Based off the reviews I felt that it was worth a try. Fried Chicken Wings, Candied Sweet Potatoes, Collard Greens, and potato salad! Everything I had was DELICIOUS!! Oh and don't forget that Mac and cheese. The bomb!!

Don't Miss Mabel's!! Old Fashioned Slow Cooked Barbeque, much like Mississippi's "Interstate BBQ." Wonderful ribs, brisket, greens, cornbread and macaroni & cheese. The food will take a while, it will be piping hot and even the sides are amazing. Nobody ordered the same dish & nobody had anything to take home in a doggy bag. Clean plates all around. (Also, Mabel is a treasure.)

Mabel's BBQ is one of my favorite places in west Chester! Mable is a very very sweet lady and she cooks everything from scratch! I absolutely love eating somewhere that makes me feel like I'm eating in my mom's kitchen! That's what the food here is all about!

As has already been mentioned, the renovations were overdue and the place looks great. On my most recent visit, I had the brisket which was outstanding; thick cut with not much fat and a wonderful smoky flavor. NOTE: be sure to check your bag to make sure the promised sauce is in fact there! Speaking of the sauce, it has a good amount of heat which I really liked. Sides of mac & cheese and collards were among the best I've had in recent memory. My only criticism lies in the fact that Mabel doesn't offer spare or St. Louis ribs, only baby back which, in the opinion of this rib connoisseur, are inferior. The quality of Mabel's rub, smoking technique, and sauce deserve the best cuts of meat available. Service was prompt and friendly. I'll be back!
