"Parisian-style bakery Macaroon Boutique (two Os) sells macarons (one O) and other indulgent creations full of butter and everything good, like salted chocolate cookies, baguettes, or savory croissants. Visitors to the downtown shop readily sing the praises of pastry chef Fabrice Rizzo's delightful delicacies and the wonderful scents that waft from the John Street shop." - Erin Perkins

"Did you know macarons are made of almond flour? That means you can indulge at Macaroon Boutique on pistachio, chocolate, and other macaron fascinations. They do make bread products in-house though, so if you have severe allergies, ask about production." - Erin Perkins

Best macaroons, even beating Disney! Go if you have a chance, their hours are limited, so snag some of you have a chance. Good wine, too, especially if you're staying in a hotel nearby! The best picture I could snap was one of the last macaroons before it was eaten!!!!

We HAVE to stop in this place every time we are in Charleston. The owner is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about food and wine and we are never disappointed with his recommendations. As great as the croissants are, the chocolate sea salt cookies are amazing too. He also just started offering these little molten chocolate bell-shaped cakes that I wish I had bought all he had. Wonderful place and we can't wait to go back!

Google
Best croissants in the South! Plain, chocolate, or delicious almond filled. Flaky and buttery, just perfect. Obviously great macaroons, everything is hand made fresh on location, nothing frozen. Also they have an eclectic selection of hard to find French wines for sale. Don't miss the Macaroon Boutique on your trip to Charleston

Google
I smelled Macaroon Boutique about 7 years ago as I walked down King Street and it has been my favorite place to get a treat in Charleston ever since. The couple who owns the shop are lovely - when I was in college, they would send me home with extra croissants and always greeted me with a smile. After I moved away, they would still remember me when I came home to visit. More importantly: these are the best croissants and the BEST raspberry macaroons I have ever had in my life. If you're looking for a place to go and lounge around and have people wait on you - this isn't your spot. But if you're looking for amazing french treats then look no further.

Google
The sweet gentleman who owns the shop saved my wedding day!! We had a macaroon disaster from another place and the owner here gave me his orders and made more just to help! We had the cutest and tastiest pink and white macaroons we used as are escort cards with our guests names on them. They were such a hit! Everyone wanted more macaroons! I will never go to another macaroon boutique ever, best in Charleston.

Google
My absolute favorite place to go for maccaroons in SC and GA! The mango maccaroon was fabulous! However the chocolate almond croissant was incredible! It is one of the best pastries I've ever had!! The shop was charming and I love the authentic French feel it has. It doesn't feel like just another American bakery. The owner was so friendly and takes pride in his creations! This is a must stop in Charleston!

Google
Awesome Croissants and great Macaroons. The croissant is not like your typical croissant, with that being said it is amazing! Expect something different and be amazed. Had a great conversation with the owner, he was very friendly. Will be back next time we are in Charleston!

A friend and I were visiting Charleston for YALLfest and saw Macaroon that day, but didn't have time to stop in. The next day was a Sunday, and we wanted to be up and around early. Most places didn't open for Brunch until 10 or 11am. We hoped Macaroon would be open for some pastries. They weren't- but the owner let us in anyway! He was so kind to us. The Macaroon's were very good, and I loved my chocolate croissant.

Yelp
I had such a wonderful experience at the Macaroon Boutique today. After living near NYC for 8 years, my love for Macarons is strong! They are a little harder to find down south, which has been hard on my heart. My husband found this place on Yelp, and even after reading the bad reviews, I decided to give it a try. First- the macarons are wonderful! I can't get over how delicious the lemon ones are! So amazingly sour!! I wish they sold them in packs of just the flavor you want, I would be in there weekly for a six pack of lemon ones! Second- the customer service I received was amazing. We even talked about the bad review they have on here. This is what I got out of it. The store is small and has an open kitchen, this makes it not the greatest spot for small kids to toddle around. It's a small store, so if someone brings in a double stroller, it makes it nearly impossible for anyone else to come in. While you may not like them asking you to keep your stroller outside, they aren't doing it because they hate your kids. I promise. Haha. I will be coming back for sure!!

Yelp
Macaroon Boutique on John Street in Charleston has amazing French pastries and desserts that are definitely worth the visit and the taste. I have been thoroughly impressed every time I have been here and have enjoyed everything I have tried. This is a nice place to get a gift for someone that likes sweets. The staff here is very friendly and accommodating.

Megan S.

Yelp
I absolutely needed to get a macaroon while down South so we stopped here. Really glad we did! The couple that owns this place are super nice. I was pleasantly surprised there was a fantastic selection of French wines here so on a whim bought a bottle of Rosé. The macaroons are delish! They come in little 6 packs, 1 of each flavor. It's just a tiny shop but it's a little gem to stop at for a nice treat.

Lauren W.

Yelp
The perfect French pastry shop in Charleston! I love that their pastries are made by a lovely French women. She is the most pleasant person you will ever meet and you can taste her love in the pastries made. You will love it! I love the Macaroons along with the apple turnover....Yes I confess I licked the paper! Go visit her and tell her the lovely lady on Yelp sent you! Perfect stop while in the Holy City and head to Paolo's for some gelato for the perfect French & Italian treats! Signed with Love and Calories, @TheOriginalCharlestonian @CSLEW_IS

Yelp
the croissant, the croissant, the croissant.....did i mention to say purchase more than one (1) croissant ???? vino, nice french selection....just pick one....

Savannah S.

Yelp
Best macaroons I have ever had! The owners are so kind and funny. Every time I come they make lots of conversation. They are a little pricey but considering the food is amazing and it is downtown, it kinda makes sense.

Laura E.

Yelp
This little shop would be easy to walk right by if I weren't for the ridiculously delicious smells that waft out the door. It's very rare that I can walk by this shop without at least going in. The macaroons are good, really good. However, I think the real star in this shop is the croissant. They are absolutely, hands-down the best croissants I have ever had. They're buttery and crispy. The chocolate croissant has the perfect amount of chocolate. They're addictive. The service has always been great here as well. Definitely stop by when you're downtown!

Morgan S.

Yelp
Warning: Stepping into this shop may cause extreme happiness. Use caution so you don't gain 10 pounds from trying all of their delicious goodies! I first discovered Macaroon Boutique in Fall of 2010 when I was living downtown. The smell hit me first - like the most wonderful mixture of pastry and butter and all things good. Back then the shop was smaller, just a case with some macaroons and some croissants sitting on top. I remember grabbing a croissant and walking down the street while I munched on it, thinking "this is the best thing I've ever eaten." (Sadly) I moved away in 2013, but whenever I come back for a visit I always stop by. The lady who greets me when I walk in is the same one who greeted me in 2010 and she always has a smile on her face and is incredibly polite and sweet. Don't listen to the haters - go for yourself and enjoy the best croissant/palmier/raspberry macaroon you will ever have!

Kayley N.

Yelp
These are the best macarons I've had outside of Europe. Not kidding around here. I never kid about sweets. Never. I popped in on a whim ten minutes before the store closed and while the owner was rather dry in her manners, she was still cordial. (I've learned the French are at their best when they're drunk, that's when I can get a smile and some semblance of emotion out of my French friends. Same with the Norwegians and Germans I've worked with. Not everyone is chipper 24/7.) I walked out with half a dozen of the best macarons I've had in the States and they were gone in record time. They crumbled perfectly when bitten into while being light and not at all dense or overly chewy. I loved the fillings as well, the raspberry and pistachio being my favorites (like always). Add this to my list of places to return to when I visit Charleston again and/or buy a retirement home here.

Yelp
Clean, professional, delicious...fulfill your sweet needs with these beautiful treats

Alex A.

Yelp
Without sounding pretentious here, I have been to Paris and didn't have a croissant as good as what you can get right here in the heart of Charleston. Be sure to get an almond and a chocolate croissant and if you're really feening for some French sugary goodness, grab a bag of their chocolate cookies to go!

Agnes L.

Yelp
A bit pricey for my taste, but loved the hospitality and quality. Must preface: My husband and I are a bit of macaroon fiends as my cousin (pastry chef/culinary school student) used to send us some in the mail and we got them all the time during our visits to Europe. However, never have we tried: Blue Cheese Macaroons. No joke, it was yummy! I prefer savory over sweet any way. Plus the woman at the counter offered us a sample after we said we were skeptical.

Sandy P.

Yelp
We passed by this bakery and decided to have a try. It turned out very good. They don't make thousands different bread but the bread they made is amazing! Just love it!

Yelp
The Macaroon Boutique is a refreshing dessert oasis in a dry desert of run-of-the-mill cupcake shops and gelaterias. I recently discovered this shop while spending a long weekend in Charleston and I have every intent to keep it on my shortlist for return visits. Pastries: As can easily be inferred from its namesake, this Parisian style pastry shop specializes in macaroons of all varieties, from strawberry to pistachio. During my visit, I opted for a bag of vanilla (6 total), all of which were outstanding. The crust of the cookie was smooth, glossy and delicate, while the filling was light with a subtle sweetness. Biting through the crust was absolutely effortless and the cookie to filling ratio was about 1:1, which is exactly how a macaroon should be prepared. In addition, the boutique also offers a limited assortment of other pastries, including various types of croissants and cookies. Unfortunately, I didn't have an opportunity to try them, but each looked expertly prepared and incredibly appetizing. Service: This shop doesn't have any seating, so the extent of service is limited. Nonetheless, the owner was still pleasant and welcoming, complete with her French accent and Parisian baking attire. Upon entry, we were promptly greeted and she was more than willing to answer any questions and to describe the various macaroon flavors that were available. Atmosphere: The space serves as both the bakery and storefront, so there isn't much ambience to be had. However, the pastry cases are neatly prepared and the entire space is clean and welcoming. I'm not sure if city ordinances prevent it, but there would certainly be enough room in the front of the bakery to add a table or two for patrons who wished to enjoy their pastries in house. For those that wish to sit, there are a few outdoor benches along John St. Cost: Moderately expensive, but commensurate with the location and quality of the dessert. A bag of 6 macaroons costs around $7, each of which is about the diameter of a half dollar. Credit cards are accepted. Other: Hours of operation are Tues-Thurs (10AM-7PM), Friday (10AM-9:30PM), Saturday (8AM-9:30PM), and Sunday (9AM-4PM). Also, they do not sell any beverages, so you'd be wise to bring bottled water along with you if you intend to polish off the macaroons immediately after purchase.

Holley L.

Yelp
Macaroons are outstanding! I recently visited from NY and walked around downtown Charleston trying quite a few sweets in the area. These macaroons were the best! I will definitely go back if I'm in the area. And the owner was very nice :)

Grace T.

Yelp
The macaroons are divine-- worth 4 or 5 stars depending on the flavor you choose to eat. The price for them was... Let's just say that I wouldn't go back for them unless it was for a special occasion. I'm really frugal. For 6 macaroons (each about an inch in diameter), it was $9.00 USD. I understand how much time and effort it takes to make these pastries, which is why I would still go back and slurge, but it's just too expensive for me to buy a bag every week. I also tried the chocolate-filled croissant, which was pretty good. Maybe 3 or 3.5 stars in my opinion. It didn't have enough chocolate filling for me, but maybe that's just cause I'm a chocolate fan. The layers in the croissant were airy, buttery, and defined, but it could have been flakier. Bottom line: I would go back, but only to splurge for a special occasion.

Natalie F.

Yelp
Disappointed. Don't let the name fool you. You can only buy the macaroons in an assorted 6-pack. That's it. They sell bottles of wine and some other pastries, but for a place called "Macaroon Boutique" you'd think they would have quite a selection of macaroons.

Hana M.

Yelp
MMM! You'd have to go to france or learn to bake to get anything this fresh and tasty. The bakery has different french treats including breads, and croissants which are very large and so flaky and tasty. The first bite into one and I have sworn to never buy a frumpy croissant from the grocery store ever again. The first reason I came here was for macaroons! They are a real delicacy and I was jumping for joy when I saw them advertised in some magazine. No one understood my love for the little sandwhich cookie thing until they too had tried it. Slight crunch on the outside, chewy and creramy and AMAZING! The chocolate macaroons are very decadent, they are my favorite next to the raspberry (big and small). You can't tell (yet) that I eat a whole 6 pack everyweek. It's just soo good :P Just so you know: The place is small and has no seating and MACAROONS MELT! The visitor's center is a nice place to sit and enjoy them or you can eat them as you go, but when it's hot, eat the macaroons after you buy!

Brandon X.

Yelp
The wine selection and pastries here are heavenly, I just go in and ask what I should buy or try what's on the counter. I can imagine what it would be like to be able to shop in France and catch up on neighborhood news. I like it.

Stewart W.

Yelp
While wandering the streets of Charleston, my nose was alerted to a magnificent fragrance. The smell of fresh baked croissants and pastries was wafting from a small shop. I had no choice but to enter. This ended up being a fantastic choice, as the macaroon boutique is not only a place to obtain confectionery delights of the highest caliber, but also a place run by a wonderful couple that are excellent to chat with. They have a great selection of wine and are willing to advise on the picking of one. I walked all over the city this weekend, but I made a distinct point to return to the bakery for more. Excellent experience and highly recommended. I'll be going back on my next visit to Charleston.

Dana H.

Yelp
Horrible customer service. They could have the best macaroons ever and I would refuse to go there because of how poorly I was treated. I brought my 3-year-old with me and he began to lift the glass case in the front of the store that covers the macaroons. I saw what he was doing, told him "no, don't do that please" then began to lower it. He had it raised maybe 2 inches before I saw him. The woman running the store starting waving her arms yelling very tersely, "what are you doing! what are you doing!" Then she switched to speaking a foreign language (French I think), and kept screaming at us in another language while waving her arms in the air with a nasty expression on her face. My 3-year-old started crying and she just yelled more. I was confused by the whole exchange and we just walked out. I can understand being upset he touched something you don't want him to...but he's 3. I stopped him the second I noticed. A "please don't let him touch that" would have sufficed. I will never visit this shop and I go to that area of downtown about 1-2x/week and always buy a treat. If you're in the area looking for a sweet treat go to Cupcakes Down South instead of this place. Super friendly, always telling my kiddo and I to have a good day, and they don't yell at us. Plus for $3/cookie the macaroons are crazy expensive.

Linh T.

Yelp
Price is a little stiff but their stuffs are pretty decent (a little dry, though). It's downtown so very easy to walk around, and see other places before making a decision on what to have.

Alexandra M.

Yelp
Rude attendant. and macaroons are American, macarons are french so they didn't even spell the shop name right. Smh.

Erika G.

Yelp
Amazing macaroons! I got the variety pack with vanilla and raspberry being my two favorites! Definitely recommend going here for a sweet treat!

Lillian L.

Yelp
Horrible experience. There are too many great bakeries out there. Don't waste money, calories and time on this place. When I walked inside the beautiful shop, I wanted to take a picture! (Duh!) I was quickly scolded by the owner who told me I couldn't take pictures. I should have left instantly. Instead I still bought some macaroons from the B... They tasted fine... but the experience left a sour taste in my mouth. It's been about a year and a 1/2 since I ate there. I am just now writing this review because every time I look at a macaroon... over a year later... this experience is STILL bothering me!!!! If I can save one person from this same experience my review will be worth it! Haha. Patronize places that are friendly with owners who appreciate your business!

David S.

Yelp
If Yelp offered an option for zero stars, I would click it as fast as possible. My wife and kids and I went in here craving something delicious. Unfortunately I can't review the food; we never got that far. The lady running the little shop was so rude -- actually just straight up nasty. I've never experienced anything quite like it, really. If I had it to do over again, I would ask her this: Why open a business that caters to the public if you hate human beings? When we tried to buy some pre-packaged chocolate sea salt cookies, she told us they can't do debit cards. There was a "Visa / Mastercard" sign on the register. She unapologetically snapped, "Our system is down." I've never heard anyone speak so hatefully about debit cards. And every other thing she said to us in the 2 minutes we were in her store was laughably, needlessly rude and mean-spirited. I actually had a 10 dollar bill in my wallet, but was relieved at the chance to NOT give her any of my money, so didn't say anything. We walked out. I stood in the doorway on the sidewalk for a bit, as the lady stared at me with a truly nasty look on her face, muttering something to the man she was working with. I stared at her smiling, and waved, and said, "Thank you!" She just kept looking at me like she was murdering me in her mind. She either hates people, or money, or both. It was one of the weirdest experiences I've ever had with a shop of any kind. I almost want to go back to see if she's always that awful. Who knows, could become Charleston's next offbeat tourist attraction.

Lorean S.

Yelp
Wow. My husband and I brought our kids in the store to get them a little treat. The owner was incredibly rude and acted like she didn't want our business. When we went to pay she told us that their system was down so we couldn't use our card. She was so unfriendly that we just left even though we had some cash on us. We politely said thank you and goodbye but she just kept shaking her head and speaking French to her husband while giving us rude stares. Don't waste your time or money on this place. Also the macaroons come prepackaged so that you can't choose what flavors you want or buy them individually. And they are quite expensive. I believe it was $15 for a bag of 6 small macaroons!

Jeniah J.

Yelp
I made the mistake of purchasing a dozen of macaroons from this business while on vacation in Charleston. No one should buy from here unless you have access to return to make repeat purchases! These are the best macaroons I've ever had and I lived with a French chef for a year in Avignon. Each one tasted better than the one before. Each flavor is subtle and decadent all at the same time. Too bad that each macaroon amounts to about 1/6 of my daily calorie amount. The only problems I had were the hours. I would appreciate it if this business weren't trying to hard to be "French" that they kept crappy French work hours.

Amber F.

Yelp
My husband and I were strolling down the street when he pointed out this little boutique. I haven't had any macaroons that were mind blowing in Philadelphia, so I figured "Eh...shouldn't lump this place in with the rest". I stepped into the little shop and was immediately impressed by the perfectly puffy croissants sitting out to cool. In their cases were little macaroon key chains that were neatly displayed as well as cute metallic ornamental ones. I was immediately greeted by a lady with beautiful blue eyes and a chic short hair cut. She opened up the display case to show me all of the different key chains and to be honest, the impulsive side of me wanted to buy everything because they were so damn cute! The reality of the budget wrangled me back to the little boutique as I shifted my attention to the little packages of macaroons. Yes, one package of 6 macaroons was what I walked out with. Although the package of macaroons was a little pricey ($15.00), I thought it was well worth it. Hubby, puppy, and I got back to the hotel room and decided to try it out. My husband was not a fan of macaroons from previous experiences in Philadelphia, but these turned both of our opinions around. The macaroons had a light buttery filling and the delicate little cookie itself had the right first bite crunch and slightly chewy center where it met the filling. To our surprise, these little heavenly bites were not as nearly sugary as the ones we've had else where and that just allowed us to enjoy the flavor of each macaroon even more. I would recommend this place to anyone who would love to try a macaroon, but keep in mind that even though it can be a bit pricey, you will get what you pay for; that experience alone is priceless. If I could've gone back, I would've.

Katie S.

Yelp
I planned a special girls trip downtown so my daughter could enjoy her first macaroon. She talked about it all week. She watches Master Chef Junior and was so excited to try one.. Especially from a specialty macaroon store! I spent a ton of money (6 for $15!). And they were stale. Like chewy stale. Like they've been sitting on the shelf all week stale. Picked some frozen ones up at trader joes today (12 for $4). And they were delicious! Moral of the story- skip the expensive trip and get some awesome ones in the freezer section at Trader Joes.

Xiaofan C.

Yelp
The owner is very talkative and overall friendly. But I wouldn't recommend you buy wine here. Too overpriced! We bought two bottles of wine, and it turned out prices are almost doubled here.

Sky M.

Yelp
Taste like cheap blandness. After having Laduree macarons in Paris, this place is just meh. Leaving much to be desired. They are also way overpriced for their portions. Having prices similar to Laduree is just uncalled for. YOU are not Laduree! And you taste nothing like it. They are not delicate at all. The outside should have a nice crispiness that flakes when you bite into it. The inside cream should have a moistness to it that is not overpowering. The cookie and the cream should have a perfect marriage between the two in terms of proportions. So that the flavor is subtle but still envelops in your mouth. Sorry. I wont be coming back. Au revoir for ever.

Bridget K.

Yelp
Best croissant EVER - had an apricot honey divine macaroon too. Always a stop when in Charleston quite amazing true French Bakery!!!

Bennett P.

Yelp
The BEST chocolate croissant I've ever had! I pass by this place almost every day and it takes everything in me to not stop in due to the heavenly smells coming out the door. Not to mention there is the most friendly guy who works there! Amazing customer service and buttery, flaky croissants!

Vicki A.

Yelp
Was visiting Charleston with my dog last week and stumbled upon this bakery. In fact my dog found it as he suddenly lifted his nose to the air and nearly dragged me into their shop before I realized what was happening. He is normally very well behaved so I was so embarrassed that he had tried to enter the open door but the owners were just laughing and came around the counter and gave him a croissant which he eagerly gobbled. Chatted with them for a little bit, very nice people, so nice to see real shops with real people crafting things they are passionate about. I had a croissant and some of the french macaroons, it was the best croissant I have EVER had hands down. Slightly hard nearly crispy on the outside and that so moist and fluffy buttery layers inside and it was a very large croissant, fresh out of the oven. The french macaroons it was actually my first time having them so I have nothing to compare to, but they had a nice crisp shell and very chewy cookie and then the smooth icing/filling. I admit I could not tell the difference, if there was one, between some of the flavored/colored macaroons (it was a package of several different colors is how they sell them) but I did enjoy then very much.

Taylor S.

Yelp
This place by far has the best macaroons I've ever had- however the customer service is absolutely terrible and the past two times I have come by the store (during business hours) they have been closed. The woman who owns the store is very rude and awkward- the first time I came in it was raining and she snapped at me and rudely asked me to put my umbrella away so the floor wouldn't get wet. The next time I came in she would not stop staring at me; to the point where it was extremely uncomfortable. If you want good macaroons I recommend this place, but enter at your own risk!

Tiff N.

Yelp
I've had an obsession with those little French Macarons ever since I saw a picture of the huge selection at Laduree in Paris. When I walked into Macaroon Boutique and saw not just the lovely little macarons, but other lovely French pastries as well, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. I suppose it was close to closing time when we visited, because the selection wasn't actually very big at all. I did get some yummy chocolate macarons, and my husband got a to-die-for chocolate eclair. Seriously, love at first bite. The owner was extremely friendly and helpful. We'll definitely be going back to Macaroon Boutique soon!

Dana D.

Yelp
I visited Paris a few years ago, and since then I have aquired a craving for pain au chocolat (chocolate filled croissant). However, having them in Paris has spoiled me and I often am disappointed by the ones I find at bakeries in the US. Until now. Macaroon Boutique, firstly sells more than just macaroons. Secondly, their pain au chocolat aux amandes (almond chocolate croissants) are freakin amazing. Walking into the tiny bakery on Rue de Jean (John Street) is a little dizzying. It smells sooo good in there. The proprietor, who is French (and seems amused more than annoyed when we speak French to her), doesn't have a huge selection of pastries for sale, but I actually think this lends to what they do have being sooo good. I can't say I've ever had any of the macaroons there, mostly because you can't just buy one. They are pre-packaged and I always have a hard time spending so much money on such tiny things. I am also not a huge fan of macaroons in general. There is no seating in this place, and there is a $5 minimum purchase to buy with credit card. If you are interested in macaroons, go to French Chocolate Cafe on Society St. They have a lot of different macaroon flavors available that you can buy a la carte. If you are looking for simple fantastic croissants and scones and cookies, come to Macaroon Boutique. It's also a great place to visit after a meal at 39 Rue de Jean.

Yelp
THUNK. That's the sound of a bad, un-fresh macaroon being dropped from my hand, to the table. I've had many of these, but not at Macaroon Boutique. The MB is in a small location on John Street, which could be easily overlooked. Inside there's not much of a selection, but it doesn't matter, because everything is so ridiculously fresh and well done, you don't need more options. The macaroons here are not only crisp on the outside, but are pillow-y and slightly chewy on the inside. No funky colors here either-- just the classic pastels. (I once had one in the Midwest that was bright blue. Talk about Smurf-vomit inducing.) The filings range from buttercreams to fruit jams, all of them delicious. (Pistachio or apricot, my definitely favorites.) Some macaroons are large, and include embellishments like fresh fruit. I need to try and find the photo of my prized raspberry macaroon. It was housed in a fancy little 4-sided domed box, and set on a golden disc for display. It was almost too beautiful to devour. Almost. The baked goods here are equally as scrumptious, like the buttery, flaky croissants. Part of me wishes macaroons would be the new cupcake, and take over all these shi-shi cupcake bakeries...but the other part of me wants to keep them low-key and a secret from the mainstream. (Yeah, I know, selfish...but MB will do that to you!)

Lori S.

Yelp
All I can say is the almond chocolate croissant was the best I've ever had. It might be the best bakery item I've ever eaten. My husband agrees.

Yelp
4 to 4.5 stars for the macaroons, especially the raspberry ones. Chocolate Croissant was yummy too, but the rest of the items we tried were only good to very good, hence the 3 stars vs 4. (we tried the almond croissant, the almond pastry, a lemon scone, and the chocolate cookies) Definitely would recommend this place over Cupcake (nearby) if you are craving sweets. There was also a Gelato place near Macaroon Boutique which looked pretty good... but can't remember the name.

Yelp
Let me get this out of the way- I had the best croissant of my life from this place. There have been no other croissants that can measure up. It will be my measuring stick for all other croissants from here on out. Chocolate and Plain. Both were AMAZING. I cannot wait to get back to this place for the amazing pastries, and of course to try a macaroon.

Yelp
What a gem! Very sweet little shop with a charming owner who will engage in great conversation with you about his macarons and other bakery items, as well as the wines he has for sale. Wonderful macarons, owner has been developing new flavors. Perfect crisp outer shell without being crunchy or dry, and a soft interior with creamy filling. Stop by for a treat!

Yelp
Walked into the Macaroon Boutique after a day of shopping and wanted a treat. The smell hits you the second you walk in and you can tell this is a legit bakery. The pasteries and breads looked amazing. We chose the 6 pack of macaroons: 2 chocolate, 2 vanilla, and 2 raspberry. Not many other flavor choices were available but it was also late in the afternoon, so had we have gone in earlier, there might have been more of a selection. Shopkeeper was friendly and I think I paid around $7 for the pack. Sadly, they melted since we made a few stops on the way home, but we put them in the fridge and enjoyed later in the evening. It was my first time having macaroons and I think Im now an addict! Too bad I live 8 hours away from this place!!!!

Yelp
Macaroon and baked goods are delicious here. Cute little shop and very clean. I got an assortment of macaroons (and ended up coming back the next day for more) and a chocolate croissant. My husband and I were in love! Very authentic, reminds me of being in France

Yelp
Smelled it before we ever saw it -- beautiful scent of fresh, hot pastries. Walked in around 430pm and they had just set out still-warm apple pastries. Resisted for a few hours, then went back and bought one for the next morning's breakfast since they open late AM. Also left with caneles. Sooo. Delicious. Friendly owners - nice chatting with them.

Yelp
Le vrai patisserie du Paris! If you woke up this morning, reached for your Gauloises and cafe au lait only to find your fist empty and your soul hollow, just pied a terre yourself down to the Macaroon Boutique and fill up on some French baked goods worthy of your francs (I mean, Euros). Don't skimp on the VERY American giant macaroons stuffed with delicious, delicate filling and whole raspberries. Pretty much anything you purchase will set your soul on fire, but also don't miss out on the chocolate sea salt cookies.. ok, I need to go back already.

Yelp
While I don't live in the area, I make it a point to stop in to Macaroon Boutique whenever I'm in Charleston for one simple thing: the croissants. Walking down the street, the smell hits you before you even get to the shop, and let me tell you - it is heaven! Easily the best croissants I've ever had. Wasn't as stoked about their breakfast croissant I had (bacon cheese and olive), but the traditional and chocolate varieties are to die for!

Yelp
This one is going to need another visit to try all the other pastries that looked delicious, but as for the macaroons, I just wasn't that impressed. Unlike most of the reviews on here, it wasn't because of the price (compared to NYC these were CHEAP). They just weren't that spectacular. Fresh and well made, yes, but flavorful, not so much. Just didn't do it for me. Their were tons of other delicious looking baked goods here though that I'm sure are worth making another visit for. So perhaps an updated review after a taste of everything else. But as for their namesake, I'll pass.

Yelp
14 years late I discover this gem. Not sure about negative comments regarding front of shop help. I found 2 lovely young ladies helping customers. Tried the almond croissant and the French baguette, both worthy of the stars.
