We visited Macayo's at the Bell Road and 59th Avenue location in Glendale, AZ expecting a pleasant meal and were met with one of the worst service experiences we have ever had.
We were left waiting 10-15 minutes before our waiter even approached the table. When he finally did, he was immediately grouchy and unprofessional. He brought one small, half-full container of salsa with our chips. When we politely requested another, he rudely dismissed us, saying, "I'll get it later."
The situation became truly uncomfortable when he repeatedly walked past our table, making direct eye contact, while freely delivering extra chips and multiple salsas to the surrounding tables—but consistently ignoring us. It felt palpable that he had an issue with us.
When my mother attempted to order a red chili burrito (enchilada style with beans), he responded with a sharp, extremely rude tone, claiming they stopped serving that item five years ago, making us feel foolish for even asking. He also never delivered the mixed drinks we ordered.
After being ignored for our drinks, food, and basic salsa, we felt so uncomfortable that we got up and left. We informed the manager of our entire experience, including the waiter's selective service. The manager was apologetic and comped our chips and tea, which was appreciated, but the damage was done.
We immediately went across the street to Popo's Mexican Food, where the service was friendly, quick, and excellent—a night and day difference. We will never be returning to Macayo's.
