Best Chimichangas in Phoenix, Arizona | Eater Phoenix

"Macayo’s may feel a bit commercial these days, but no chimichanga trail would be complete without a mention. The Phoenix institution traces its roots to 1946, when founder Woody Johnson allegedly invented the dish by accidentally dropping a burrito into a deep-fryer at his original restaurant, Woody’s El Nido. That golden mistake became a mainstay, and the chimi has been on the Macayo’s menu ever since. Now, 75 years and several location-changes later, Macayo’s is still leaning into its legacy: In 2021, the team celebrated the anniversary by setting a Guinness World Record for the world’s longest chimichanga — an absurd 25-foot behemoth stuffed with shredded chicken, beans, cheese, and sauce. The food might not blow anyone away, but the story (and the sheer size) earns it a spot." - McConnell Quinn

Got it delivered. Over $3 for a 3 oz container of guacamole that has 1 ounce one it. Tacos are miserable tasting and looking. Where are the toppings to go in my $17 tacos? Why are the tortillas missing? I don't recommend this place in any capacity. Update. YUCK!

Went here for a late Mother’s Day dinner with my two daughters. We sat on the patio by choice. It was nice outside. So we did expect a little bit of a wait as one normally wait a little longer when you choose to sit on the patio. However, it was about 45 minutes from the time we sat down until someone came to take our order- then after placing the order, it was another almost 40 minutes until we got our food- we didn’t order much only tamale bites appetizer to two cheese crisps one side of black beans, one side of rice, and a shredded beef burrito. They were out of Baja sauce, but the server did try to make a different sauce recommendation to go with the tamale bites. Typically it comes with Baja sauce not a huge deal . However It shouldn’t have taken more than maybe 15 minutes to make the food that we ordered. The server was very nice but seemed very stressed and it looked like she may have been the only person serving not entirely sure but I didn’t see other servers. We ordered two sodas and lemonade which usually come with free refills, when our food finally came out, our drinks were and had been empty for at least 20 minutes or so- the server did offer a refill which we said absolutely please- halfway through finishing our food, the drink refills finally came back- about another 20 minutes later. By that time, we were ready to go, asked for boxes, which took another 10 minutes. The server was very nice. Did apologize for the wait several times I still gave her a big tip because she looked very stressed out and I didn’t want to take it out on her. The fact that the restaurant seemed understaffed. The food was some of the worst food I’ve ever had at a Macayos. I have been going to this restaurant- not this location though- literally for 20 years. Never have I had food as bad as it was. The cheese crisps had no flavor whatsoever and were both basically burnt. The rice seemed like two day old rice that had been microwaved. The beans had no seasoning at all. And look like they came straight out out of a can. My daughter only ate three bites of her burrito before saying she didn’t want anymore She said the shredded beef was chewy and didn’t taste right. I was tempted to send the food back but after already being there for two hours, we were ready to go. I didn’t wanna wait any longer. I am not sure how this Macayo’s location is so much worse than any other location I have been to- and I have been to every other location in the west valley. Hopefully it was just an off day for them, but being the day after Mother’s Day, you would think that they would be properly staffed as a lot of people are going out to eat, and you would think that the food would be good and fresh not old and burnt. Very disappointed that I spent $60 on this food about $80 with the $20 tip that I left. But I didn’t want the server to be punished because the cooks don’t know how to make food or because the management doesn’t staff correctly. We literally ate a quarter of our food. Here is a picture for reference of how bad the cheese crisp is burnt and what the black beans looked like, very, very disappointed. The only thing that tasted halfway good was the tamale bites.

Food seemed to be better this time around. I took advantage of the Tuesday $3 taco deal and had one ground beef, one shredded beef and one chicken. The chicken and shredded beef tacos had no flavor at all. The ground beef taco was good though. The waitress did a good job and we never had to wait too long for anything.

I am quite literally obsessed with the chips & salsa as well as the mini chimi’s. Iv been coming here for years & constantly crave it. I currently live across the country & always make it a point to come here when I'm in town. Highly recommend!

Google
First of all let me start by saying the presentation of this place is nice , this is what attracted me to try! As a culinary graduate going on 3 yrs , I like to try out new places , sometimes it's good to take a break away from the kitchen. Just gave this place a try Friday Aug 9th ..and ohhh boy! This has got to be the worst so called Mexican food restaurant I have yet tried here in Arizona! Where do I start ...let's start with the service , lots of staff and no attention, did not know who the servers were to the greeter, next we didn't see drinks (soft drinks) on the menu had no clue what they had to offer nor was it explained, next chips were brought out with what ever that soup was of a so called salsa literally had zero flavor! Then ordered, had the steak ordered it to be medium rare, don't think the cooks know what medium rare looks like because it was raw...sides of rice and beans seemed like they were a day old and placed under the heat lamp over 20min. This was way over priced for the quality of food! Let me tell you taco bell is way better than this, and the kicker was not even the homeless man laying outside the restaurant wanted the left overs that's pretty sad if you ask me! Only reason I brought back left overs was for me to redo the food myself! 1 out of 10 I rate it a -1. I want to meet the owner or who ever is in charge I can help you turn this place around!!

Great food. Service was pretty slow, but it was Sunday night. Overall it was good. The menu is condensed but has many Mexican favorites. The chips and salsa were great. The corn tamales were good.

I hadn't dinner with a group of four today. Our server started out great. Place was empty. As others came in to dine service started lacking. They have a relatively small menu and I figured food should be pretty good. My wife had chicken fajitas, and requested onions only, no peppers. She got no onions and all peppers. The chicken, if it could be called that, was the driest pieces of cardboard you could imagine. I had enchiladas that were at minimum, ok. Dad had carne asada burrito plate that was very dry. Mom had chicken chimichanga that she said was ok. My wife left her food and said I won't even give it to our dog. The price was surprisingly high, but we did have drinks. I chose to give this place another chance based on its original history. They used to be a great place. I don't believe anything is made in house anymore. Never again will I waste money in this place. The food is garbage. The service is decent. Don't waste your time or money. If you want good food and atmosphere, go to Arribas, or Popos.

Jose was our server and went above and beyond! Very attentive and anticipated what we needed before we even asked, and the food was so delicious! My daughter and I had a truly fantastic meal, and we were both blown away by Jose. We’ll be back soon!

Keegan was a great server! She made the experience that much better, my mom will never forget this birthday.

Yelp
Food: 2 stars - We ordered the 1 and 1 mix and match: 1 enchilada with shredded beef and 1 side of beans for the wifey. I ordered the burro bowl with skirt steak. Wifey's order came out wrong. They gave us an enchilada with ground beef and a side of rice. So we had to wait for the waiter to come around to advise of the mixup. My burro bowl was decent but portion size was a little underwhelming for $18. The enchilada with shredded beef was okay but they were out of their famous Baja sauce. So that was disappointing. Apparently their Baja sauce is on a lot of their dishes but they ran out that day. Would have been nice to see some sort of discount seeing as their menu was not complete but we still had to pay their complete prices. Free chips and salsa which is standard at these Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurants. Salsa was very watery which makes it hard to dip the chips. Chips were well seasoned and salsa was decent, but just not a fan of runny salsa. Service: 2 stars - Docking stars for service because they were out of their Baja sauce. It's their "famous" sauce and they run out? I haven't eaten at Macayo's in probably a decade as a Phoenix native. How can you run out of your famous sauce that is used in a large portion of your menu?! Unacceptable for an established restaurant such as Macayo's. The waiter didn't even offer any substitutions or anything complimentary for the inconvenience. It was a Monday at 5pm, not like we were at the tail end of a huge dinner rush; the restaurant was not busy at all. Management should have been able to do something for their oversight in not having enough Baja sauce for their dinner service. Overall poor experience from their service. Ambiance: 3 stars - Nothing stood out as spectacular. It's a casual vibe with clean bathrooms but not going to save it from my poor experience with their food/service. Overall: 2 stars - Needs improvement. This restaurant has been here for so long, it feels like it's just on cruise control. Is being out of their famous Baja sauce going to tank the place? No. Is one bad review going to make a change? Probably not. However, I'm sharing my experience on a place that I used to have pleasant experiences at through my high school years. I might come back to try their Baja sauce (hopefully it's available) but might wait for the next decade. If you do give Macayo's a shot, hopefully they have their famous Baja sauce and you have a better experience than me.

Yelp
I decided to take my kids out for taco Tuesday to Macayo since they had three dollar tacos deals. We got there and the ambience was beautiful nice, clean, and well-maintained. We got sat in the bar area so we could watch some sports on TV. The waiter/bartender was absolutely phenomenal. He took very good care of us and was absolutely attentive. They brought us the small saucer plates and our utensils. This is where things started to change. I look at my butter knife, and there is food on it. Dried food. My son had the same on his utensils. We didn't use any utensils!!!!! This is was BAD! The next thing is they brought us chips and salsa and this is where things went from bad to worse. I've been going to Macayos since I was a teenager so for over 2o years. One of my favorite things about Macayos was & is their hot sauce. I picked up a chip and as always dipped it in the hot sauce.......... when I took a bite it was so disgusting. It smelled like and tasted like nothing but cumin. I like cumin but I can only handle cumin in moderation. So -1 point for the hot sauce being disgusting. The salsa however, was decent. It's just, I like spice in my salsa & hot sauce and this one had no spice at all. Moving onto the tacos. One of my sons had the ground beef taco. The other one had chicken and I had shredded beef. Found out from the server that the ground beef and the chicken come pre-packaged so they're not freshly made. However, the shredded beef is freshly made. My boys rated the ground beef and chicken tacos a 6 out of 10 and I rated the shredded beef taco at 5 out of 10. As much as I used to enjoy going to Macayos with my late mom .....it's just not the same anymore. There are other restaurants that have better quality food, authentic quality food and for a better price!

Yelp
Today was special $ .79 margarita day, we've been going there over 20yrs. This was by far the worst service ever. The food was good, but we waited about 15 minutes for drink order, mind you the parking lot was pretty much empty. When guy server finally came, he was rude. I had my souvenir mug, and I said I have margarita, he said "ya I know ". It took a while for it to come, with only one other table seated. All tables in bar except 3 were full with dirty drinks and plates almost the whole time we were there, I timed it was 57minutes before the normal bartender/waitress came in and she cleaned all tables in less than 10 minutes. It doesn't take long to clean up a table, she did it in no time. We will still go back because this was probably some piss poor bartender/ waiter, but manager needs to watch closer.

Yelp
Obviously checking in and saw a nice surprise of a free cheese crisp! My favorite. It was yum. Got a mix and match with a shredded beef taco and rice. Also yum. Chips were great, water stayed refilled. Our server was attentive and nice. It was Christmas Eve and there were quite a few people in the restaurant for lunch. So happy to be back to eat all the Mexican food I can.

Yelp
They repainted the front which looks brings a refreshed look. At 5:00 it was quiet but took 10 mins to be seated. Our server was great. She was friendly and fast with orders and bringing food. The cheese enchiladas were good, but the shredded beef enchiladas a little dry. The fajitas were tasty. I also enjoyed my skinny margarita.

Yelp
Food was good seasoned well, fresh ingredients, and portion sizes were nice. The cheese crisp had the perfect amount of cheese and cooked nicely. The house margarita was a bit too mix heavy. Service at the bar wasn't great, but wasn't bad. My dining partner was pretty much ignored. Overall though, we enjoyed our visit and will come back.

Yelp
I really want to like Macayo's. They have great salsa and hot sauce to go with the chips but that is where the great ends. I have been disappointed more often than pleased. Yesterday I ordered beef fajitas for lunch, the beef was so tough that I could not cut it with a knife. They offered to get me something else so i asked for the chicken, much better. (The beef was sliced with the grain which made it even worse than just tough) Service is hit or miss too, if you get Sergio you are in luck! Last year I bought a gift card and still have a few $$ left to burn, after that I will be going to other places for Mexican food.

Yelp
Saw this place when driving by and didn't know they were still open. We decided to swing back around and we weren't disappointed. We were seated promptly as it didn't seem too busy. Our server was nice and very attentive with our drinks and food. The food was good and filling for the price! I would recommend if you're craving some good Mexican food!

Yelp
I love it here. Always. And Sergio is by far one of the best around!! Thank you Sergio and Macayos. Our go to place!!

Yelp
Checked in and saw the free cheese crisp. Server said this wasn't from corporate. She had to check with the manager. No big deal either way for us. But I couldn't understand how it was on yelp. Manager agreed to accept the coupon. We ordered margaritas, I had pricky pear.yumm. Cheese crisp was quickly served and was good. Had the chimi with shredded rice and a side of rice. Service was very quick. Food was tasty and extremely filling. Our server Lawnie was awesome and made the meal that much better. We'll happily return here again.

Yelp
The food is good and the portions are good for the price. The bathrooms are absolutely filthy and need to be cleaned. Kind of makes you wonder what the kitchen looks like.

Yelp
I'd contacted Macayo's to host my sister's baby shower. We originally anticipated 30 guests and needed a larger area to accommodate everyone and wanted a relaxed but beautiful atmosphere. Macayo's allowed us to book the patio at 11am when they opened as they had another party for the patio that evening. I called the week of to confirm and ask if we could arrive 15-20 minutes early to decorate and they graciously offered to open the gate when we arrived. The day of, we arrived and the entire patio was setup beautifully!!! I could have cried. Black linens adorned the tables, tables were set for appetizers, spacious table settings and the banquet style buffet was gorgeous. We ordered mini chimis and queso for appetizers. Chips and salsa arrived first. The appetizers were served fresh and were absolutely delicious. For the main course we chose chicken fajitas. Everything was set out from corn and flour tortillas to sour cream, cheese and guacamole. The chicken was tender as were the grilled onions and bell peppers. Our guests were blown away and complimented everything from the decor to food! Thank you Sylvester (manager) for my accommodating our last minute changes and all of your help to ensure a seamless event! Wishing I would have gotten photos of the setup, I was busy tending to guests.

Joanne B.

Yelp
The waitress was very nice. The little plates that are on the table for chips and salsa had food stuck to them, we asked for new plates, one was wet the other was dirty. The restaurant on 59th and Bell Road is old and very dirty. I didn't want to touch the chair to pull it out to sit down. My tortilla soup was ok but not served hot. The steak fajitas were fatty and tough. The lettuce was wilted. The guacamole was good, the cheese enchilada was ok. We used to love this Macayo's, will not be returning.

Yelp
The prices at this restaurant have gotten absolutely insane. In 2019 a pint of their Baja sauce was $6.99. It then went up to $9.99 in 2021 and now it's $15.99 for that pint. $16 for a side of sauce?!?!?!?! Nope. I'm done. I can't wait to see this place close just like all the other locations.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came here for lunch and had a great time! Manuel was our server, and he did a wonderful job!! He hit all the points....he talked us into some yummy margaritas to start with, and was patient with us when we needed time to order food, which was delicious by the way! The atmosphere was very comfortable.

Rob A.

Yelp
Our server Keegan was incredible! Very attentive, nice, accommodating and personable. Great service, great food, and nice environment. We will be back!

Bob Y.

Yelp
The food was great and served hot. Keegan our server was very attentive. She check our drink and chips level several times. Very happy with the visit to the Glendale Macayo's.

W G.

Yelp
The food is always great at this Macayos's. What needs improvement is the smell and the ventilation system. The bathroom smells horrible and it always does. I come here all the time for years and years and it has a stench. The ventilation in the restaurant is not good because you leave smelling like Macayos's, which is not a plus. I also feel that the bathroomspecifically the women's bathroom needs to be remodeled and whatever stench is coming from there needs to be handled. I can't imagine that this is OK from a county health perspective.

Romi K.

Yelp
I really enjoy coming here. The food is always solid and tasty. They have an outdoor patio that is dog friendly and a nice place to sit. And the rewards program is amazing!

Kris L.

Yelp
I returned to Macayo's to use the remaining balance of my gift card. This time I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered off the senior menu and liked the chili relleno and enchilada combo very much. The waiter I had this time was better as well.

Yelp
Went to Macayo's a couple weeks back with the wife. She had the Chx Chimi and I had the basic bean tosada and shredded beef taco. Service was quick, the beer was cold, salsa was very good. Always pretty solid here; and this time was no exception. As an aside, I always like the boatload of shredded lettuce on the bean tostada. That's minor, I know, but I like it. 4 times out of 5 the cheese crisp is excellent. Every once in a while it's a bit dry but, eh. Pour on more salsa !!! Prices are pretty much mid-range, and the food is always fairly solid. I cannot say this place is 5 Stars in that I don't think Macayo's is exceptional. However.... They are very good across the board, and that in/of itself is almost 5 Stars. Can I rate it 4-Stars with a + sign afterward ? Ha ha. Manga !

Yelp
Armando the Manager is fabulous! Always so kind and efficient! Ate our amazing server is the very BEST! Customers for over 35 years. My new favorite is the green corn tamale with Baja Sauce...absolutely delish!

Yelp
Stopped over at Macayo's for a bite to eat and it was not the best. The floor had something spilt on it might have been soda and chips on the floor. The hubs and I got chicken fajitas to split. I asked for fresh guacamole and lettuce as what we got was brown dark brown. Service was slow so nothing to write home

Yelp
We had Gabriel as our server and he was fantastic! Just the right amount of service and made our visit special. The food and atmosphere are what I was craving and my non alcoholic margarita was perfect. I'm so glad to come here and I have leftovers for tomorrow! Lucky me!

Yelp
A good place to grab a bite. Tables, floors, chairs, and bathroom were clean. This location has very tall ceilings. Decor is traditional Mexican and very beautiful. Restaurant temperature was perfect. Clientele was mostly middle aged adults and families. We visited on a Saturday night and it was very busy. Parking lot is well kept and was very packed; you may have to park quite a ways away. The staff was friendly, but disorganized. They informed us they don't take reservations, when in fact they do. They also weren't very attentive. Our table sat empty at the patio for half an hour before they sat our party of 15. Staff was appropriately dressed and their interactions with each other were professional. A few of the things were ordered were the cheese crisp, the carne asada chimichanga, and the guacamole. All were fantastic, super flavorful, and at an appropriate temperature. Overall, worth every penny. My next visit I want to try their fish taco. Tip: if you have to wait long for a table, grab a drink from the bar, passes the time. Thank you Macayo's. I look forward to my next visit

Yelp
Chile relleno trio was really tasty with a nice presentation. You're presented with free chips and a generous amount of salsa. Atmosphere is family friendly and nicely appointed. Plenty of parking nearby. Host and server were both friendly and attentive. We will definitely return when in the area.

Yelp
My heart is broken. Their tacos are not made the same way anymore. I'm just devastated actually. My favorite food in the world for as long as I could remember was Macayo's Crispy Shredded Chicken Tacos. I sadly learned that my once beloved Macayo's has been bought out by a big corporate restaurant conglomerate. They have lost that I don't know what they used to have. I have been going to Macayo's since I was born. My grandpa was friends with the original owners. We used to go to the kitchen and hang out with the cooks and staff. It had been a few years since I had Macayo's. I immediately ordered 4 tacos. The tacos used to have a very unique spice to them that I have only tasted at one other location and that was a gas station in Brentwood, CA. Weird, I know. The new version of the taco's were nothing like I remember. Other than the crispy shell. The chicken wasn't even shredded the same way. It was basic bland chicken. No flavor could be found at all. We did have a Cheese Crisp. Thankfully that was the same. Go look up Macayo's YouTube page and you can learn how to cook one yourself. This is a staple dish in our home. The other things that were ordered by others at the table were good. My man got this crazy good beef dish that I dont remember what it was called. If I had known that my dreams would be dashed I would have ordered what he had. Our server was excellent and really made the visit. Everyone working was great. How do you tell Macayo's to keep the same recipe for their shredded chicken tacos?

Yelp
2:30pm on a Saturday. Normally we try and sit in the Cantina, because the service is slightly better, but today was a rough visit. Like I said asked for the bar for a party of 5. Host said it would be to hard to move tables ( bar was less than half full, patio was "not available") so we said fine we will sit in the restaurant he said ok give me a minute. Mind you the restaurant side had less than ten tables sat in the WHOLE restaurant, he chose to clean two unbussed tables instead of pulling together two clean ones. Nothing wrong with that I guess, just seems like a waste of time. He was nice enough not the reason for the lack of stars. Our server (Saul) couldn't have been less pleasant, taking our order was clearly and openly an inconvenience. Again the restaurant was not busy, he had 5 tables. Took our drink order and three drinks were wrong and took a long time, no water while we waited for bar drinks(margarita had sugar instead of salt kids drink came in a glass and brought the wrong tea). I actually wanted to order a flight but when he rolled his eye and said "of course" under his breath I changed my mind. When the right 'iced tea' came out, it had no ice?? We had to ask for everything napkins, hot sauce, water. Taking our food order was again obviously an inconvenience, so we decided not to do our normal round of appetizers, but the rest of the order came out in a reasonable amount of time and was correct. My son was unable to eat the chkn Fajita quesadillas, unfortunately it was so greasy when he picked up a slice a stream of grease came off of it like when you put butter on popcorn at the movie theater. It takes a lot to go wrong for me to leave a review, and I am a fan of Macayos over others and have been for years but every time we have to eat on the restaurant side it is never good.

Yelp
Super yummy margarita flights (I've tried every flavor by now) and the food is always spot on, there is 50/50 chance your server will be too busy and won't be as attentive as I'd like but overall nice place.

Yelp
This restaurant has gone down hill fast! Our Cinco de Mayo celebration was less than acceptable. It started with the long wait to be served (the restaurant was NOT full at all). The waiter said the kitchen was backed up and food was taking about 45-50 minutes to be prepared. The rest of our group wasn't arriving for about an hour so that wasn't a problem for us. We were not in a hurry and expected a day like that would have longer food preparation times. Unfortunately it wasn't the kitchen that was the only area that fell short. Our margaritas were terrible (primarily sweet and sour), when we ordered soft drinks our server unwrapped the straw with HIS hands and touched the area where we would put our lips (Disgusting and a huge NO NO).... We threw out the straw, was never around when we needed items or wanted to place our food/ drink orders etc... I could go on and on but I will spare other gross details at the expense of embarrassing this particular server, as too much detail would be identifying. This establishment should have paid attention to hygiene when hiring employees that work in the food and beverage industry. My family has been going to Macayos throughout the valley for over 50 years, but this location over the past couple has finally ruined it for us. Sorry Macayos- time to turn in your keys.

Pat W.

Yelp
I brought two work colleagues to lunch at Macayo's Bell Road. We shared a carne asada cheese crisp, plus guacamole, to start. For lunch we ordered the green chile pork stew, California chicken burrito, and a fish taco plate. The food was tasty and the service was friendly. Good experience.

Yelp
We have only ordered delivery from here twice, so I haven't been to the restaurant. But I was happy with the food! The portions you get are pretty generous. Their enchiladas were super decadent and flavorful. However their tamales, nachos, and tacos were all decent, but I felt they could use a little more zing and flavor. But maybe that's just because I like more aromatic and spicy Mexican food? A little habanero/jalapeño sauce made them all taste great. Still, I'd definitely order again especially for a big meal or a lot of people - the portions are huge! One thing I really appreciated was that they have gluten free cheese-crisps. You never see that anywhere! It's almost always done on flour tortillas but Macayo's delivered. I don't recommend getting one for delivery though - cheese-crisps are only good fresh off the stove/oven.

Yelp
Good Mexican food at a descent price. Service is a little slow and my wait staff did not bother to check on me during my meal. Cheese crisp is free with a check in kinda taste like American cheese on a tortilla. The enchiladas I got, one chicken and one spinach, I got with Baja sauce which is creamy with Jalapenos diced in. It was weird that while it was good, it didn't have any heat or kick to it. Had some churros on the way out and they were crunchy and good. I have had better Mexican food but it was ok for finding a place while hungry and not wanting fast food.

Yelp
Went here today. Food was delicious. Portions were good. The drinks were good. The service could've been better. She kept being referred to as "princess" and honestly her attitude kinda sucked- she was especially rude to my folks and didn't really want to help us understand the menu even thought we mentioned it was our first time here. Besides that- food was great so I'll be back eventually (:

Yelp
This was beyond expected! The service provided by Alicia was amazing and the environment was lovely! The food was better than expected and worth the price with large portion sizes .

Yelp
Table service was awful and the Mexican food was very bland. Lacking the traditional Mexican spices. I will not be back again.

Yelp
Went for dinner with a party of four. Ordered the Shrimp Fajitas. Delicious. Service was awesome, fast and accurate. Margarita was delicious. We've eaten here every time we visit Glendale and we are n never disappointed.

Yelp
Unfortunately I can't rate the food quality as we never got the chance to eat. Walked in on a Tuesday night and waited at the front for someone to seat us. Several staff walked the dining area but never acknowledged the front. Waited a long time before someone finally walked up, the staff member then helped a lady with her to-go order who was there well before us, but completely ignored us. If it takes that long to be seated and the poor customer service we decided to not even try the food.

Yelp
We dined at this restaurant four times during our February 2021 visit to Glendale, AZ. The food is excellent, my friend enjoyed the Tres Rellenos plate and I loved the Baja Verde Carnitas Enchiladas. Both dishes come with rice and black beans. We loved these dishes so much, we ordered the same items during all our dinners at Macayo's. My friend loved the Tres Rellenos because the chillies were not battered, and each chili had a different filling. I loved my particular enchiladas because they were filled with chunks of meat and had a flavorful sauce. For covid safety, face masks were required and patrons were seated at socially distanced tables or booths. Hand sanitizer was available and the menus were sanitized after each use, as were the tables/booths that were used by diners. For seniors, they offer a 20% discount if you show your waiter the discount card, available at the front desk.

Yelp
Always authentic and amazing! Every Macayo's restaurant around the valley is consistently great.

Yelp
Food very good! Chips were not the best. Service was a little lacking but it was his first day. Ambiance was adorable

Yelp
Macayo's was the perfect choice for us when we landed in the city and hadn't eaten for a good portion of the day. The food was delicious, service was quick, and we had filled our stomach in minutes. I liked the ambience as well. The spinach con queso was unbelievably good, we liked our chimichangas a lot - the menu just seemed like you couldn't go wrong with anything here. Save it for your next trip to AZ!

Yelp
After being contacted by their corporate, I gave it another shot and they did not disappoint! Service was great, I sat at the bar and ate the delicious food that I had been long awaiting. Thank you Macayos for fixing my experience, and see you again soon!

Yelp
First time for myself and my boyfriend. Met my parents for lunch on their side of town. While waiting for a hostess to seat us we saw the offered a military discount if you signed up on their mailing list thing. That's awesome as my dad and boyfriend are veterans. We ordered from their lunch menu and I got the beef taco with beans and rice. Our waiter never really came to check on us. A girl gave us our food and my dad gave her the information card with the 20% off and she just asked for the information part and told us to give the coupon to our waiter. No water refills. We were given the check but again the waiter was gone for a long time and not checking up on us. My dad went to go find our waiter and pay and was told he couldn't use the coupon with other discounts. The card says with other discounts or mothers day. No other restrictions. We didnt have any other coupons or anything and it definitely was not mother's day. Guess macayos isn't really military friendly. So disappointed. Will not come back due to bad service and macayos not really for the military.

Yelp
This place was so slow to provide service. It took a while for the server to get to us. She took our drink order and then told us the bar was really backed up so it would be a while. Our table of four only had one set of napkins and silverware, we had to ask for the other three after we got our food. Slow to refill our chips and salsa. The one bright side was the food. Delicious tacos. Doubtful we'll visit again. Too many good Mexican food places nearby to deal with such slow service.

Yelp
Always a great place for food and drinks... service is exceptional with a fun atmosphere. You can't go wrong... at any of their locations. Check them out when you're craving Mexican food.

Yelp
Worst dining experience ever! Waitress took 15 minutes to say hi and get our drink order. The drinks then took ANOTHER 15 minutes to show up. She never checked on us again. I had to go to the bar to order drinks for the table because the waited waitress was no where to be found. Then to top it off when they brought the bill they tried to charge me for drinks I WENT AND BOUGHT AT THE BAR! When I asked for the "manager" his response was to tell me to quiet down about it. I'll never go back and you shouldn't go there in the first place. Just horrible service!
