Macayo's Mexican Food

I was lucky enough to meet the manager today I believe her name is Maria, but she was fantastic! She came out and greeted me. She made sure I had the seat I need. I never had a manager that really greeted me and made me feel like I'm at home.That's what I call service I will be back and tell my friends.

For the price the quality is not that great. The initial first impressions of the decor was nice but the vanity of it passed really fast. Decent salsa, but again, considering the price you can get better and more value elsewhere.

She was cheerful, attentive, and took a moment to offer fantastic recommendations without ever making us feel rushed. Her positive attitude is contagious, and it's obvious her colleagues rely on her steady presence. ​If you dine at Macayo's, ask for Victoria. She is more than just a server; she is the operational backbone of this establishment, delivering an experience that is consistently excellent. She deserves every bit of praise—and a big raise!

We had an amazing experience at Macayo’s thanks to our server, Espy! From the moment we sat down, Espy was friendly, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome. Our drinks were always full, the food came out perfectly, and Espy checked in just the right amount to make sure everything was great. You can tell Espy genuinely cares about providing excellent service. This was one of the best dining experiences we’ve had at Macayo’s, and we’ll definitely be back because of Espy!

Had an awesome experience at Macayo’s! Our server, Trinity, was absolutely amazing—super friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was perfect the whole time. The service really stood out and made our visit even better. Food was great, drinks were on point, and Trinity’s positive attitude made the experience awesome. Definitely coming back and hoping to be served by Trinity again!

We had a late lunch so the restaurant wasn't too busy. Our hostess that sat us down wasn't having a good day, because she never smiled when we greeted her. I always smile and make eye contact when I come in. Food portions were great and tasty. We ordered off the senior menu and there was enough food for our lunch the next day.

Lylia, Thank you for such great service. What can I say about the food that you haven't already heard? Let me start here. I asked for two ground beef Enchiladas with cheese and man did they deliver. They were very flavorful with a side of lettuce and 🍅. I also had a frozen margarita, with salt, very good. My husband ordered a Pork Baja Burro dinner and it was more than he could eat. He said that it was delicious and he would order it again next time we visited. For dessert, we had perfect churros, very good. Benny is a fine young gentleman who came to our table to tell us about the history of Macayos telling us he has been working for Macayos for 39 years and he was thankful for the opportunity to serve everyone. What a great time we had here, never expected anyone to give us history but it was great learning about a place we love to eat at. I attended a Christmas party this past I went to a Christmas party there recently and it was very nice though they could have turned on the heat lamps that are connected to the ceiling because it was out in the patio it wasn't super cold but it did get chily. Our waitress was Espy she was very professional and made sure she attended to us. The food is exceptional I got a bucket of beer for roughly $40 plus I gave her about a $12 tip. It's a little on the pricey side I wouldn't call this traditional Mexican food but it definitely is Americanized Mexican bar food. A perfect place to take somebody on a date go hang out with a couple of your friends and watch a game or just grab lunch. Highly recommend this location.

I came for the margaritas and mini chimis, stayed for the waitress I landed in macayos to crush some margs and mini chimis, when BOOM, i met our server, Jana. She brought my chimis faster than I could say "extra baja sauce," serving jokes and food with equal skill. Give this girl a raise, a crown, name a dish after her, this is her taco shop now. 10/10 recommend Macayos

Jana was the best server I have had here definitely great sense of humor and kept me laughing the whole time definitely recommend her being my server every time

One of the best Mexican restaurants in the area. They used to only be 120 years ago, now they're broke out across the Phoenix area. Some of the best tasting Mexican food I have had. The Mikael is a place to stop when you're in the Phoenix area. Our service at this restaurant was outstanding. Waitress was excellent professional, and took the time to explain the new menu to us. The area is very clean and workers take pride in their work.

I ordered my "normal", Two Chile Rellenos with rice and beans and a Texas Margarita (maybe 2). My server, Espy was very cordial, helpful and pleasant. I was there just after 6 PM and it wasn't busy and sitting at a table in the bar where they have "open seating" I was able to sit immediately. Not my first time here, looking forward to the next time. I hope Espy is still there when I go back.

Great customer service. Friendly and efficient. The margarita flight was delightful for $9.99; lots of flavors to choose from. The chips and salsa were top notched; fresh light crispy chips with flavorful salsa. The mini chimichanga plate contained 6 chimichangas and it was quite a lot of food.

I've been coming to this establishment since 2008, I purchased and still have the original margarita mug. The past several (at least 5 years the frozen margarita machine) is a hit and mostly miss, because of this continuing problem and it is a huge problem it puts big pressure on the staff and back log on the service. The staff is trying very hard to please everyone and their margaritas but it's become poor quality. The bartender is doing his or her best but it's not working. It's time to get a new margarita machine, it's poor quality as it is and just not even close to what it was and what it should be. We had an amazing experience at Macayo's Mexican Food Restaurant! There were four of us dining, and everything from start to finish was fantastic. The food was delicious, fresh, and full of flavor, and the atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable. Our server, Alyssa, truly made the experience exceptional. She was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed. Her positive attitude and great service really stood out and made our visit even more enjoyable. We all left happy, full, and already looking forward to coming back. Highly recommend Macayo's--especially if you're lucky enough to have Alyssa as your server!

Under seasoned. Bland. Service was just okay. Chips were all crushed or broken. Overall very mediocre. Likely will not be returning.

Loving the salsa still. The chips not so much. Some chips in the bag are great like they always have been. Some taste terrible like they were cooked in old oil. I called the location to see if To-Go is open. They were saying it is each time, but pulling up. The door is locked. I just got into the front and order through the host. They say it is open and the manager is running To-Go, but they aren't. We only visit here now for the salsa.

Henry and Brook always make our Friday night at Macayo's awesome. The always greet us with a big smile and make us feel welcome. Their service is always top notch and we keep coming back because we so enjoy our Friday evening when they are our server. The food is always delicious and hot and with a membership we always get great deals

I have been eating at this Macayo's since it opened in 2004. I have always loved the Baja sauce. It's amazing. Service is wonderful when you get Melanie. If she is not there we leave because service is inconsistent otherwise. So do yourself a favor and make sure you ask for Melanie! Fast service, remembers my drink order and always gets my order right no matter what I'm craving. Seriously she's the best.

We had such a great time. Our bartender Briana was awesome, she made delicious drinks and had them out for us quickly. Highly recommend this location. It was such a vibe.

Very disappointing for me. I'm a native AZ so the changes from the new owners have not made me happy. Their taco salad was wonderful. Not any more. Then their chinos used to have Sonoran sauce and don't have it. And every thing is spicy. I hadn't been in over 5 years and went back with a friend. It was worse. I will not waste my money going there again.

It's fine for what it is: standard American style Mexican food that's more cheese than anything else. Hot sauce is good, chips are fine, most food items are passable, dining room and bar are both clean. Big weakness here is the pace of service. Everyone is nice and polite but it takes forever. I usually come here at lunch, but I'm not sure I can anymore. It takes way too long to get a server over to handle your check. Usually that's down to a place not having enough staff, so I assume they're just stretched thin. Downgrades what would be a decent chain experience to not worth the trouble.

Their food is great and service is wonderful too. They have a wide variety of food and the portions are generous. Prices are good too. Love this place. We go often.

Food is always great. My favorite is their enchiladas and tortilla soup. We had their Nachos Supreme today and they were phenomenal. My wife enjoys their burritos and fajitas. But their best reason to go is Lillia, a fantastic waitress. We always ask for her and she is incredible. Best Waitress ever!

Not organized, slow, poor service. Food and salsa is mediocre. Not enough workers here.

Margaritas are fabulous! Beer is COLD. Espy was our waitress and she could not have been more helpful, knowledgeable, or nicer. My fave is the mini chimichanga appetizer. My husband's fave is the grande chimichanga with squash and rice.

My family has been eating at Macayo's on and off for years. Espy always treats us like family. The food is great and service we get is amazing. She always knows what we want and when we want to change it up we are never disappointed with what she recommends.

Trinity was amazing. I went in with my friend to have drinks and visit, Trinity was waiting several other tables, I did not feel like she missed a beat, she continually checked on us and helped us whenever we needed. Thank you for the amazing customer service, I really appreciate it

Looked like they were having an off night. The food took a long time to be served and there were two entree mistakes out of four. My fish tacos were crunchy on the outside but mushy and weird on the inside. They forgot the steak on the fajitas combo. However the service was excellent so we tipped her well! Everybody got to make a living. There are other better Mexican restaurants in the area.

First visit at recommendation from a friend and family member who live in The Grand. We stopped in during happy hour. The house marg was delish and happy hour prices A+. The restaurant was gorgeous, Mata was our server. She knew the menu well & was very attentive (noticing my spice sensitivity. We filled up on happy hour dips and Mexican corn - all recommended. Definitely plan to return to try entres and the dessert menu!

Jana is the best! She always makes sure my meal is perfect. She is an example of what a makes a great server.

Brooke-lynn took really good care of us. She never let the drinks get empty, she made sure we had everything we needed and when the food came out she gave us enough time to make sure it was tasting fine and checked again. She had a pleasant personality and is someone that we will ask for by name when we come back. The food was really good. My wife loved her chicken burrito and my enchiladas we terrific too. Recommend coming here if you want good food and if you want good service ask for Brook!

I don't know what the fakkk is going at this place but my grandma almost died from there food it was so gross and my sister got suck later the night from here we had chips and salsa it was crappy and then the Service was terrible some guy kept talking for like 30 mins wasn't even working and the chimi chaungas were terrible the meat was old and the rice taste like sheet!!!

We had fajitas for two and they were delicious. Trinity M was our server and she was prompt with our drinks and food. We could not have asked for a better server.

We ordered a to go order for nine people for our Christmas Eve dinner. our pickup time was for 3:45 p.m. We expected a reasonable wait time, it was about 30 minutes. Felt sorry for the only employee who was trying to fill the orders. Not very good planning on management's part. Our food quality was very good, however it had been sitting for some time and was cold. Once we were home it was discovered that a couple of the sides had not been included. Overall we would order again and have been in house customers many times.

We had the best service at Macayo's Surprise AZ. I ordered a chicken poblano... my all time favorite. The inside of the chile was cold, they try to make it right, made a new one and it was perfect! Thank you to our server Esmie and the Manager! Making it a pleasant experience. We will be back!

Phillip at the Surprise Macayo's provided excellent service. We've been Macayo's customers for years and he made us want to return to this location in particular. Phillip was attentive, polite, and brought a smile to our faces with his happy attitude.

Great food if you enjoy your food served at 1000 degrees, has no flavor and burnt. If you also enjoy your sever not checking on you I highly recommend it otherwise just skip coming here. A dying brand in the Mexican food industry.

We had a fabulous lunch at this Mexican Restaurant today with my son and his family who are visiting from California . The restaurant is decorated so cute and it has a lovely ambience. The menu has a lot of options all at reasonable prices. Our server was Jeff and he was outstanding. All of our food was delicious. The cheese crisp that you can get for free with the YELP check-in is very generous in size. The Restaurant looks very clean including the restrooms. We all had a really good time and we plan to go back again soon. We had a really good experience!

Something's in the rice. This place used to be packed, you had to wait to get in. Today, not the case on a busy Friday they had a bunch of empty tables. It became apparent why, after receiving our dinner. The California chicken burro or whatever they called it had less chicken than a chicken burro from Taco Bell. My wife got tacos and the beef was chard like a piece of charcoal. We were over charged as they advertised that kids ate free with every adult entree. Total lie cause we were charged full price. Our waitress, she did her best but could hardly see and was very slow. We will never go back, it's not like it used to be. Oh... the rice, tastes as though they had boiled it in the dirty dish water from the previous night.

There was just an overall weird vibe during our first visit to Macayos, which is Spanish for Macaws... 1. At the hostess station, I requested a table for ten. They appeared perplexed and conferred with each other for about 30 seconds, even though the restaurant was mostly empty. I remarked "I'll be over here while you figure this out". Someone wore their sassy pants 2. We were invited to our adjacent tables about 10 minutes later, which had four heaping bowls of chips and five cups of salsa. As we were getting everyone seated and menus distributed, a waitress arrived to whisk away our salsa bowls because, and I quote "Let me take these old salsas and get you some fresh ones". 3. Fifteen minutes after we ordered, I had to grab the manager and ask if the appetizers would arrive before the entrees, as I hadn't seen the waitress since we ordered. Moments later, everything came, but they were awesome and comp'd all the appetizers! 4. After paying, we were finishing up conversations at the table, when everyone at our table began coughing... as did people from the other 4 occupied tables in our area of the dining room. I can't say for sure, but I'm thinking some pepper spray was discharged. I vocalized this and the group started for the exit, cough-chuckling along the way. The visit was memorable, but some of the food was kinda forgettable. The cheese crisp tortilla was wonderfully crispy, but the cheese sure did taste like Kraft American singles. The chile rellenos from the Tres Rellenos entree were not battered and deep fried, instead they were raw chiles, sliced open, filled and baked/broiled. They were okay, just not what I had assumed. However, the rice was noticeably fluffy, the relleno fillings was tasty, and the tortilla chips were light and crunchy

Okay so Macayo's gets some things right and then on the other hand.. just revamp. We ordered food Friday. It was 2 of the appetizer platters and a side of rice and beans. So small. Picture made it look like a lot more food. For the pricing... we should get a lot more food. Chips and salsa were good. Chicken taquitos were good. Mini chimichangas good. Rice good. I'm not sure if the tamale ball things were good or not, I didn't try them. Beans... not great. They tasted old. The food... It was kinda thrown together. We have dined in before and it's okay in there. Decor needs an update. My hubby picked up the food we ordered Friday and said the service was good. No complaints. I wanna order from here again but for the prices.. I can get better bang for my buck elsewhere.

I Love Macayos !!! I have been eating at several locations since 1992. However this is my first time at the bar in the Surprise location. The experience is so below standard . The bar is filthy !!!! The glass coolers are disgusting !!! Holes in the wall I can't even list all the stuff ! It's terrible !

We've been there twice. The first time was average and we wouldn't have gone back but we were attending a birthday party for family. The food is average at best but the service tonight was ridiculously slow and rude. It took well over an hour to get our food once ordered and while we were waiting the server showed us no attention. We would have ordered many more drinks if she had. Some people appear to like this place by looking at reviews but in Arizona we have a plethora of real good Mexican food with superior service to choose from. No pride shown by the workers. No empty drink glasses and no empty beer bottles were remove from our table by any staff member. I had to buss our table to get some space to enjoy the birthday cake which was the hit of the night. I do NOT recommend it and we will NOT be back. Too many other great options in the valley.

Service was great (Sunday between 130-230) food was great- big plates and happy hour deals are a steal- ambiance is cute as always (bar area) Frozen margaritas are way better than Barrio Queen Katelyn was very sweet and interactive

Dirty floors at bar area! Very sticky. Service was a joke. I had to ask for silverware. Never got a refill on salsa, and server never checked back until order was almost done! Tip reflected service! You only had three guests or tables!! Bathrooms were clean! Never will b in hurry to go back!
