Second trip: Their Monday Special is amazing! $17 for a five course dinner. I was definitely full by the fourth course. Definitely will return on Monday's. First trip: A little pricey. I went to the brunch buffet without realizing it was brunch hours. The service was impeccable. They made me a crepe because they had run out of waffle batter (it was less than an hour before brunch ended). The rest of the food was tasty but didn't make much sense together. Shrimp and grits, with re-fried beans, fried rice, fried chicken... they had some traditional breakfast items too, but the selection seemed very scatterbrained. My only major concern is that none of the food except for turkey sausage was labeled, which resulted me in putting grits on my plate without realizing there was shrimp in them. They added some freshly cooked shrimp right after I'd put some on my plate which is the only reason I knew not to eat the grits. I'm very allergic to shellfish and could have ended up in the hospital had I not been there when he added them.

The new menu is awesome! Perfectly executed. The free hot tea is a great touch! I highly recommend the vanilla bean tea. The place was clean (same decor as before). The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is that the service, while very friendly, was a little slow. After all, we were the only people there at the time...

We ate with extended family after the DIA and was able to experience what a lot of the dinner choices look like. Large portions, great taste and fair pricing what we all concluded. Would have to say all meals had a special twist to the normal ordered meals of other restaurants . Very happy with place

My family and I went on a Sunday for brunch. I'm a fan of the Midtown feel so when my wife told me we were eating in Midtown I didn't object. The look inside was so cool. the wood, the bar, the staff attire, all of it made me feel laid back. The food was amazing! the shrimp and grits and mac and cheese and the fried fish, and the list goes on was amazing at least. The floor person came to our table and checked on us. His name was k'von, very personable and knowledgeable person I was glad to met. I'm all about customer service and K'von gave us that. very cool setting for family and me and my wife will be going back for a more intimate date night. loved it

The place was completely empty when we got there at 7:15pm on a Saturday, but we still sat down anyway. The service was pretty slow given that we were the only people there. We got the meatball soup, and the broth was VERY salty. I got the Drunken Noodles, which were decent, and my family all got bahn mi sandwiches, which had too much bread. Our total came out to $65, which was a little overpriced.

Having experienced many establishments in the city we were deeply disappointed in our experience at Maccabees on Saturday, 2-17. The service was slow, and inattentive. We arrived and were seated at 5:40 PM and food did not arrive at the table until after 7:00 PM. The waiter assured us that he understood the dietary needs of our table, did not write down any of the orders and as a result made critical mistakes. When the food arrived the waiter forgot two appetizers, totally failed on the dietary restrictions we made clear, and delivered the final plate of 6 a full 30 minutes after the other dinners arrived. One round of drinks was delivered on time, but refresh and reorders had to be made by attracting the attention of another staff member. The food was of poor quality and had no plate presence or presentational interest. On the whole this was one of the worst dining experiences we have had in the metro Detroit area in 30 years. To top it off as a table of 6 we were charged a mandatory 21% gratuity for absolutely abysmal service. RUN AWAY FROM THIS RESTAURANT, there are far more deserving places to eat in Mid-Town and downtown and all of them clearly value their customers a great deal more than Maccabees at Midtown.

This is the place in Midtown for the Sunday Brunch and Lunches throughout the summer! Steps from the DIA, Historical Museum, Science Museum, and the Detroit Library. Great Prices and Great people! The Prices were very reasonable, the food was great (best sliders and fish Taco's in the "D"), and the service was great! In addition to the food, make sure you try the Bloody Mary, it's to die for! This is a restaurant worth the trip and in the middle of it all in Midtown Detroit!
