The 37 Best Restaurants in Milan, Italy | Eater

"Macelleria Popolare’s counter is a top destination for chefs and diners searching for Italian street foods of yesteryear. Tongue, spleen, tripe, lampredotto (the cow’s fourth stomach), chopped heart, and fried brains are paired with prodigal butcher Giuseppe Zen’s daily choice of wines. Picky eaters can stick to meatballs fried in gargantuan breadcrumbs or select some cheeses from the stall in the Darsena market nearby. Order and sit outside at the picnic tables overlooking the canal. Best for: The best street food in Navigli canal district, tucked away inside a market that visitors often miss." - Elizabeth De Filippo-Jones

This is the best effing meal I’ve had in Milan and in years. Beats many Michelins I’ve been to, and I live in New York, and ate through various notable metropolitan cities and travelled quite a bunch. The chef is personable and charming, and I’m so humbly honored to be able to taste his creations. He was so genuine in his recommendations. Even the only beer on the menu is amazing (Italian Saison, really unique). They offer great cuts of beef and lamb, including dry aged, but I attacked the unique ones like veal brain (fried Milanese style), head cheese (amazing horseradish garnish that cuts the gelatinous grain), intestines in pomodoro sauce, grilled sweetbreads, and a simple lamb chop. Surprisingly, the lamb was a tad over done since I’m a medium rare person but I assume that’s just how they eat it here. The ordinary stuff pales in comparison to the unique items. My favorite are the intestines, that just broke away in Al dente strands against the umami rich tomato sauce and balance of pecorino. I assume they are San marzanos. The next best is the head cheese, which is in a rich gooey sauce that sticks to the teeth a little like toffee with intense rich demi glacé / ligament like flavors. I’m going to try the tiramisu next because wife, she’s not too into the off cuts - just means more for me. Also got the kidneys as well, loved it. I’m still tearing from gastronomical pleasure. It’s a journey of flavor and surprise. Watching baby ducks on the canal is a big plus. I rarely post any reviews, but this is an intense call to action, please keep this shop alive till the end of time. I’ll bring my yet to be born kids here one day.

A small and unique butcher shop turned eatery, Zen’s place hides an authentic culinary experience that takes street food to another level. Every dish we tried, along with the carefully selected wine, was chosen with love and attention by Zen and his family. Warm atmosphere, personal service, and unforgettable flavors. Highly recommended!

a wonderful authentic experience must not be missed on a trip to milan. everything from the panini, the oxtail stew, and the wine to the most amazing made-to-order tiramisu and other delicious desserts, makes me wish i live right next door so i can just have all my meals there.

This place is fantastic, away from most tourists and by the river. It is almost like a butcher at the market. If you go outside on the weekend, they have tables and local musicians for entertainment. They also sell local wines, and the meats are from naturally raised animals. You may want to ask what everything is... But whatever you do, try the "Grandma's recipe meatballs". Yum!!! Enjoy!

Great atmosphere (sit by the canal while enjoying your dish), lovely and kind staff (they encourage me to speak Italian but will use English to help me understand), and tasty food (I've been slowly working my way through everything). Love coming and having some freshly cooked meats and drinks with friends!

A rare street food gem in Milan! I ordered Genovese Panini/ Burger (?) and they made it right there! Really yummy and worth the long line I had to wait in. The place is inside a market in the Navigli area, so you can takr it outside and eat it by the river, to have a little "wanderlust" experience in a day!

Yelp
One of the stops on our food tour, this butcher in the Mercato Comunale has some interesting and tasty stuff. What's interesting about this butcher from others is that they can cook your meat for you if that's what you want. How neat is that! La Polpetta Della Nonna was amazing. Basically, a meatball but coated in I don't know what and then fried. Delicious on the inside and the outside. Available cooked or for take away. Yum! The "meat on a stick" turned out to be lamb in a subtle seasoning. I don't know what they call it - just show them the picture and tell them that's what you want. Delicious! Yelp
Great burgers (better, LA SVIZZERA) and selection of typical italian street foods. Sublime meat quality, little bit overpriced.
