Ma'Coco

Tried this spot for happy hour the other day. I would recommend making a reservation because seats filled up fast with other reservations. I tried a number of dishes on the happy hour, but what stood out the most would be the chips with the verde salsa specifically, the fish tacos, and the churro donut. I’m not a fan of donuts, but gave it a try on national donut day (which was buy one get one free) and it was delicious. Super soft and doughy without that typical donut oily after taste. Definitely recommend grabbing that after your meal.

Amazing food came out fresh and steaming hot. After I started eating I couldn’t stop till it was gone, it’s crazy someone can make food like that. The service wasn’t bad either, it felt like my glass was never empty. The workers were so kind as well truly the icing to the cake. I will be coming back whenever I’m in town again 10/10.

Had the best dinner here! Drinks had real fruit and agave, salsas were all fresh and authentic and service was fantastic. Owners are from San Diego! Really great spot, will def be back!

HH bites were flavorful and good portions for the price. My favorite was the Flautas and the Tuna Tostada, my friend liked the flavor of the Fish Tacos but they were just a bit messy. Ambiance though fell a little flat - service was good, but it was was super quiet (awkwardly to a point, I don't think they had any music on). It seems like their air conditioning wasn't working properly either, as they had to floor units set by the bar blowing towards the dining tables. Lighting was off too, as. most of the overhead lights were off or super dim, so not sure what was happening that day... but it's worth giving them another shot. Will be back for brunch, as the menu looked solid.

This was our first time here, and we absolutely enjoyed the vibe. Yesterday Happen to be the 3 year anniversary and there was a DJ and margaritas were 3.00. This made us very happy to say the least. We had a the Elote, and salsa and chips for our apps, and Baja tacos, al pastor, and a quesadilla. I was very happy with how stuffed the baja tacos were and everything was tasty, our least favorite being the salsa and chips nothing to special about it. We will definitely be back. . Gave a 4 star in service cause our server did not provide utensils or napkins, but she was busy so not a big deal.

We sat outside at this cute, laid back dinner spot. Our dinner was really good, and the server surprised us with a complimentary dessert for my sister's birthday! What a treat! Also, the cocktails were top knock as well.

Ma' Coco was today's MVP! The day started with a fail to get food at four other restaurants because of lines and a 2 hour wait! Decided to try this place across from where we parked on the sidewalk! When I say that the food did not disappoint I really mean it! The food was great over all! This place is def. Not cheap in any way but the food can justify it! To top it off , our server was from Monterey and gave us great recommendations on what to order! We will be coming back ! 🤙👍

Ma’Coco was so accommodating to a member of our party with a citrus allergy. The food was 10/10, atmosphere was chill, and drinks were amazing! Marigold Margarita was definitely the best one so. Our server was amazing, super knowledgeable, and everyone’s order came correctly. We had a group of 15 and getting a reservation the night before was easy and we were so thankful!

Really great service and reasonably priced food for the portions you get. We ordered the elote asado to start and it was seasoned perfectly. The verdes chilaquiles and mole chilaquiles were perfect!

Ma'Coco? More like Ma'NONO. I came in during Macoco's happy hour (5-6:30 PM) on a Friday. The decor inside Ma'Coco gives off a relaxed, coastal vibe using natural materials and earthy tones, reminiscent of Tulum. Food: For appetizers, my party ordered the Salsa Sampler (3 different salsas served with tortilla chips), the Ceviche Verde, and the Tuna Tostada. For my entree, I had the Enchiladas Verdes, while the rest of my party ordered various tacos. The food was bland, dry, lacked spice and flare. Ambiance: For a party of three, it felt like we had to shout at each other and overall, felt uncomfortable with how much yelling we were doing. Overall, considering the price and the food, Ma'Nono is just not the vibe. Note: Auto-gratuity of parties of 5 or more are added onto the final bill

First time here. Dining area is clean & cute Ordered the salsa sampler $8 awesome chips and the salsa rojo absolutely hands down the best I have had in Austin had a little spice to it Breakfast burrito bacon so good fresh and tasty Will definitely come back for happy hour Mimosa delicious they are not shy with the champagne Service was great

Took a road trip to Austin and HAD to make a detour to come eat here again! Truly worth the trip! The corn was amazing, and still so impressed by the homemade corn Tortillas. Guacamole is truly made fresh and absolutely delicious! The star of this gem of a place are their homemade donuts! **was so excited I forgot to take a picture! They really need to consider expanding due to how "in demand " the indoor seating is! However, they turn the tables fast and efficiently! Wonderful experience

The entire experience at this restaurant was pretty bad. When we walked in the hostess asked if we had a reservation and seemed annoyed that we didn't. It was wild that she asked us this considering that the restaurant was empty when we got there. As we walked to the table, I noticed that our server was shaking his head and trying to signal the hostess to not see us in his section. He was not very attentive and didn't even even introduce himself when he started serving us. The food was also extremely mediocre. Some of our entrées came on broken chips, plates, and over all the food was not great. I've gotten better food at a food truck. Instead of trying to make the restaurant seem like one of those trendy fancy Austin restaurants they should focus on making better dishes. I definitely will not be coming back to this restaurant and I'll be surprised if it's open in two years.

My sister was visiting from the midwest and we were heading over to white horse for the thursday noght two step class and stopped here to grab a bite. The interior is STUNNING. It truly transports you. Its a very small restaurant but it doesn't feel cramped or too busy. To drink I had a mezcal narg that was delicious, a well made margarita and maddie ordered the watermelon agua fresca! We both ordered off of the happy hour menu for food and shared the chips and salsa trio and elote to share. All 3 of the salsas were different styles and flavors but really enjoyable with the fresh tortillas.the elote was super flavorful and the corn was perfectly cooked! I had a taco and maddie ordered the quesadilla. We both walked away satiated but neither of us feeling like it was too much or too heavy.

The real highlight was the friendly service and an accommodating manager who sets a customer-centric service tone from the top. We had an issue with the hostess and our reservation but he stepped in to resolve the matter creatively. The patio is fun, with a live DJ (though too loud for any conversation), and the food was enjoyable. It was the vibration atmosphere that made this a decent Friday night outing. No one thing stood out per se - they had 2 types of vegetarian tacos on the menu. Skip the guacamole - it's too tiny a serving for the price - but the corn is spiced quite well.

I'm not sure if this is authentic Mexican or California Mexican, but it's a good change from all the predictable tex-mex options around town. Don't miss happy hour for deals on not only drinks, but food too!

Tasty food... absolutely delicious. I would come back and order literally anything on their small but well planned menu. However, the service was lacking, and when a glass candle holder was accidentally shattered by the hostess as I was being sat, I had to stand there awkwardly during a quick attempt to sweep -- and then I was still placed at the same table despite there being glass shards all around, and a half dozen other empty tables on the restaurant where I could have been seated. We also had to flag help down when we needed to leave. The space is small, there are lots of planters filled with cacti and other plants. The manager was incredibly kind and I am certain my experience was just due to inexperienced or new waitstaff. Will definitely be back to enjoy the food!

Very cute atmosphere, modern decor and nice selection of tequilas. It is a little dark and moody, but sometimes I'm in the mood for a laid back atmosphere. They have a cool list of margs, I tried the passion fruit (most popular) but it was a little sweeter than I like, will come back to try the water melon! The shrimp taco was very good, although I wish there was a little more shrimp. My absolute favorite thing was the churro donut and I'll be having cravings for the cinnamon sugar treat in the future I'm sure of it!

The food, service, vibes were all immaculate! We got a dinner reservation and were seated promptly. The inside is a cozy and vibey set up. The carne asada fries were to DIE FOR! Soo so soo good (and pictured below). We also got the flautas and guac for the table. Those were good but not as spectacular as the carne asada fries! My dinnermates got margaritas (one got watermelon and another regular) and both liked the margs. They were asthetic drinks but sadly not pictured

As a San Diegan I am over the moon! Everything was perfection definitely the flavor profile alone will have me coming back! Shannon was our server helped me with my many questions and had extensive knowledge of the menu she deserves a raise! She was the perfect balance of checking on us and letting us enjoy our meal. Thank you Shannon for the experience we will be back!

Ma'Coco was a pleasant surprise. I've passed by it many times, but it flies under the radar. Ma'Coco has a cute interior that's modern and fresh. The music was great and the service was solid. Food: Everything tasted really great! The chips and salsa were good! The carne asada quesadilla was tasty. My mango margarita wasn't the best marg I've had, but it was fine. Overall: I recommend trying is out! My experience was pleasant. I'm sure I'll stop in again.

We stopped in here just before heading to the airport. I found it randomly doing a Yelp search and we decided to give it a try. The inside is beautiful. Very nicely decorated without feeling cluttered. It wasn't too busy for a Wednesday at lunch. The menu is small but has a good selection. My husband ordered the burrito. It's massive! Two people could share it and both be full. I ordered the salad. It was great and large as well! Definitely a great spot to grab lunch or dinner at if looking for a filling meal!

Our food and service from Yuri were excellent! We ate the Ahi tuna tostada and the carne asada quesadilla were delicious!

Last week I visited Austin for my friends birthday party. On Saturday, we decided to go to brunch at my Ma'Coco. Me being a Southern girl I was a little hesitant because I've never had a Mexican brunch before but I said huh let's try it. Boy am I glad I did. As soon as I walked in the door we were greeted with warm welcomes and smiles. The staff was friendly and patient. I asked a lot of questions because I was unfamiliar with some of the items on the menu. My friends opted for an array of items I chose the Migas. Initially, I didn't think I was going to like the dish but once I customized it, I quickly realized it was for me. The drinks are on another level. So refreshing so delicious yet still give you a buzz. We even had the donuts. If you're in the Austin area and want to have a non-traditional brunch, try something different I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Wow wow wow, I was actually super impressed by this place! Quality food for a really reasonable price. We came in without reservation, but womanly hurt to call just in case with a bigger group. Towards the evening it does get very dark inside with the lighting but still a very wonderful experience to take on if you're swinging by. Bravo! Love the staff, and love the place and food. Would definitely come back again.

Honestly unimpressed. This spot was super hyped up and it completely missed the mark. 1) it is NOISY, we had a table of 5 and had to essentially scream to talk to each other 2) the mango marg was so pulpy some of us choked 3) the food was sub par 4) they auto charge gratuity apparently for 5+ (which is normally 6+ elsewhere)

This place is a cool vibe for sure! It smells a bit odd as soon we walked in but eventually I didn't notice it. The restaurant is certainly a great date spot or a place to catch up with friends. Their happy hour is great and the elote is a must! It was so good!! The food is also great as I got the asada fries! The service was fast as well.

My first visit to Ma'CoCo was for lunch on a Tuesday. The staff was very friendly upon arrival and our waitress, Annie, was very welcoming and accommodating. The menu was simple and straightforward: appetizers that were both expected (e.g. guacamole, salsa & chips, elote) and unexpected (i.e. carne asada fries); a taco & quesadilla section; and finally the "Antojitas" which was an assortment of different dishes including a salad, burrito, enchiladas, etc. We were offered dessert after the meal but I never saw a menu for it, so I can't comment on the offerings. I ended up with the Pollo Asado Ensalada and it was pretty good. Fresh, well-balanced ingredients and I like the deconstructed nature of how it was served (kind of like a Cobb salad where every ingredient has its own area). However, I was expecting much more flavor from the chicken. It was billed as a "pineapple jalapeño chicken" but none of those flavors really came through. Chicken was still juicy; just lacked any of the promised flavor profile. My companion had the Emmoladas and ate every last bite. I forgot to snag a picture but it was very well-presented and similarly deconstructed. Our beverages were a concoction proposed by our waitress, Annie. The restaurant didn't have any flavored Topo Chico so she offered up several impromptu flavor options (which I'm guessing were on hand thanks to their margarita selection). We ultimately went with one of their homemade options, Watermelon Mint. I have to say, this little drink (served in a clay mug) was the highlight of my afternoon. They should definitely add this to the menu! Extremely refreshing, especially on a 105 degree day. The interior of the restaurant is very clean and visually appealing. It has a great aesthetic without coming across kitschy or like a "theme" restaurant. I sat on the bench which was comfortable enough for someone my size, although I'd imagine someone with longer legs may not find it very comfortable. The bench is a little narrow and there isn't a lot of room under the 2-person tables. The only constructive comment about the ambiance is the music; it just seemed a little too loud and boisterous for lunch early in the week. I think they are going for a Tulum vibe which normally I wouldn't mind, but the volume was perhaps more appropriate for the happy hour crowd. Maybe I'm just getting old though, lol. All in all, I liked my first experience at Ma'CoCo. I will be returning to try out their happy hour and drink menu in the near future. Will update the review once I do! Hope this was helpful to anyone who comes across this posting.

Ma'Coco was a pleasant surprise on the east side! It had been closed for a while but I'm glad I stopped by. Their food tasted great and their drinks were delicious. I ordered the chicken mole enchiladas and though they were tasty, I was a little sad they served them to me pretty cold. Of course I didn't complain, but for the price, some hot food would've been nice. I might go again depending on convenience, but I don't think I'll go out of my way for a reservation. Again, DELICIOUS drinks - just steer clear from their house marg as I felt they used cheap liquor and gave me a headache.

Found this place on Yelp while looking for a nearby taco place. My only complaint is that the portions were really small for the price point. This was like eating in NYC where you spend a lot for a single taco. That said the tacos were fantastic! I got the octopus, I also got a tuna tostada, and

Awesome last-minute find! Was a Friday night and found this place on OpenTable. Their Happy hour lasts till 6:30, and we arrived right at 6:25. The waiter was awesome and very accommodating. The HH Marg was delicious, strong, and well-priced. Started with the Salsa Sampler which came with homemade chips and 3 salsas. We enjoyed them all! For my entree, both my partner and I ordered the California burrito and oh my gosh it was incredible. The burrito was absolutely massive, both of us could only finish half. I would dream about this burrito post-hangover.

Service is amazing, the food was legit Mexican amazingness. The ambiance and the area is perfect. I highly recommend if you like a great brunch spot.

Stellar weekend spot for a late-night snack, with rich and unique flavor combos to spice up any date night or friends' outing! 100% recommend the Steak Frites dish - best tasting appetizer I've had so far this year, without a doubt! Phenomenal service & atmosphere to go along the unique menu options.

First off this place is so cute it offers indoor and outdoor seating. Only downfall about it is that it's never really cold in there during summer so be ready to sweat a little. The people there are always so nice reservations are optional I think if you go at night, I would recommend getting one. I've had several of their food and I've never had complaints. Their drinks are great. I have to say the Paloma there is delicious. Definitely get the salsa sampler. Their sauces are so good. I got the California burrito and it is delicious. Also, make sure you get the Mexican corn there.

This place lost one of my stars because of the service. The food was great!! Carne asada tacos, quac, churro donuts, all 10/10 margarita was okkkk. Also the price for the amount of food you get is very reasonable My vegetarian friend got the cactus taco and she said she would get it again! The service- we got sat at 7:15 and nobody came to greet us until 7:40 AFTER I got up to ask who our waiter was. I wish that was an exaggeration. After we finally got our waiter, he was fine but after the first 30 min of waiting around for someone to come to our table we were all a little annoyed.

What pleasant surprise for a last minute booking due to rain. We got in at the tail end of happy hour for a couple cheap, delicious drinks. Thank goodness we did because the house marg and Paloma doubled in price after, making for a relatively expensive cocktail menu in general. It would be nice to have at least a house margarita as a cheaper option. The tamarind margarita was unique and marvelous, a little sweet, so take note depending if you like that if not. It was a super cute, homey space with warmth and plants. Music was slightly loud at peak dinner though. The food was really well prepared. Small portions but worth it! The shrimp taco was flavorful, perfect seasoning and sauce with a great tortilla. Two in our party got the surf and turf quesadilla and raved about it the rest of the night. Watch out for the automatic gratuity for parties over 6. The system makes it difficult to zero out or reduce the extra extra that's added on top of the automatic large party 20%.

We came for happy hour and had such a great experience. The California Burrito was delicious and the drinks are great! The chicken flautas were perfectly crisp and yummy. The fish tacos had great flavor.

Not our favorite Mexican. We went for the mole and got a chicken mole dish. The mole was not appetizing and the dish was dry. They have a minimal wine selection and no chips/salsa at the table. Was hoping for better Mexican.

The service was great and the food was delicious! It was a little loud in there, but they did have a really big group. My friend and I enjoyed a drink, appetizer, dinner and dessert. The carne asada fries are a must! I had the mole enchiladas, which were yummy & the churro donuts are a delight! The restaurant is clean and nicely doctorated.

Came across this "hidden in plain site" restaurant last week. I had a short break and was not very hungry but wanted to try them out. I ordered the Ahi Tuna Tostado. It was the most amazing thing I have tasted in quite a while. Generous slices of raw Ahi Tuna with avocado salsa and salsa negra on a crispy tortilla. Exquisitely good! So good I didn't take a photo till halfway through... I had to go back again to try more the following day. I ordered the Emoladas. Chicken enchiladas smothered in a Mole sauce. The mole sauce was very tasty reminiscent of visits to interior Mexico. The shredded chicken was a little bland. I think this dish could be perfected if the chicken was tossed in mole sauce prior to being rolled into enchiladas. Mole inside and out. I will be back to try more!

A last minute decision to come here but really glad that I did. My friends and I sat outside and the vibes were so cute and our server was so lovely! For drinks, I got the tamarind margarita and I must say they did tamarind right. Though I will say it wasn't that strong. My friends got the mango drink and the Paloma and both raved about it. We shared the ceviche for an appetizer. The flavors were all there, loved the pickled red onions on top and the chips were the perfect vessel to hold the ceviche. I got the enchilada plate and they did not skimp out on the chicken. Huge shout out to them because the chicken was juicy and flavorful. I just wish there was a little more verde sauce. My friends got the taquito plate & the pulpo taco. For the taquito she wished it had a little more salt but overall enjoyed it. For the pulpo taco my friend said it was filling, well made and definitely had a kick. To finish off the night we split one churro donut. Which honestly after all of our food it was the perfect amount. So warm and comforting - 10/10 recommend and low key might walk over there today to get some togo. That good! #supportlocal

Starters: Loaded Fries - 3/5 Tacos: Nopal - 4/5 Shrimp Gobernador - 4/5 Ensenada Fish - 5/5 Dessert: Churro Donut - 5/5 The churro donut is an absolute must order. It's amazing! Fish tacos were super tasty. Nopal taco was okay. Sweet flavor. The shrimp was okay as well. Disappointed with the fries. They came out cold and the carne asada was over cooked, too chewy. The flavors were good though. Our waitress was phenomenal. Great place! Definitely will be back to try the carne asada burrito, the sauce for it looks bomb.

I loved this place so much I went twice in 2 days! First, the restaurant is so cute. What a hidden gem. Very Cali, modern and great decor. Staff is very nice and accommodating (big table of 12 people unannounced and it worked, even though the place got super packed an hour later). The food is really good and the prices are fair. I had the $14 California burrito and loved it! Who would have thought to put fries in a burrito? Californians I guess. Sign me up. Appetizers: The appetizer sampler was disappointing, 3 tiny small sauces, I wouldn't get it again. The guac was good, not outstanding for atx The fries with meat... yum! Get that!!! A friend got a special salad and it was HUGE! Someone else was a little disappointed in the flautas, so maybe avoid. But why would you even get the flautas to start The marg was also very good!! $10 for a marg, seems fair for that side of town. Overall, I personally love this place and will be back.

Loved this Baja style gorgeous spot so much! The decor is stunning - takes you somewhere tropical! We went for an early lunch time one weekend right before the crowd and got some stellar service since we were the only two people inside. Highly recommend the spicy pineapple marg, chile relleno taco, fish tacos and the tuna tostada. Every bite was mouthwatering and I'd definitely order everything again. I need to go back in for their burritos! They look killer. They're a tad bit pricey but nothing that would keep me from going back. They have indoor and outdoor seating options. They don't take reservations but I don't think you'd need one anyway. Maybe in the evening on a weekend?

Went for a early dinner on 7/2/22 The place is on the small side but is very nice inside. The staff was great. I personally thought the menu was a little to small for my liking. I do not eat Mexican very often and did not see much besides a Taco that interested me. My family all got food that they really liked. The chips and salsa was a hit with all of us. They will give you more chips if you ask. My taco was not very warm but was good. I ate a few pieces of fajita meat from my sons plate and it was very good. I would get that the next time for sure. It is the most expensive thing on the menu. Save some room for the donuts. They are delicious.

Tulum vibes and margs for days! As soon as I entered this place, I felt like I had been transported back to Tulum - the basket lamps, jungle vibes, and dim lighting. They also have a long list of margaritas which was so hard to choose from, and that's not including the other cocktail options they offer! I went with the Tamarindo marg (a bit too sweet for my liking, but I should've known with the fresh tamarind pulp lol) and my boyfriend got the Oaxacan Passion (we both loved this one!) I'm giving 4 stars because I did think the food could have been a little better. We ordered the guacamole to share, which I found a little plain. And I ordered the chicken enchiladas, which were good but I feel like I've had better - I would give them a 4/5. My boyfriend ordered the Carne Asada tacos which he loved and said he would give them a 4.5/5! Overall, I would definitely recommend this spot - good food, great vibes, amazing drinks!

Have been for dinner and now brunch. I definitely recommend. Environment is clean and bright with splashes of Baja CA color. Reminds me of San Diego with those Baja beach vibes. Food: Dinner -- I got two carne asada tacos. At $8 a taco they aren't cheap. It's hard to understand how they captured the flavors of the Baja carne asada but they DID IT. So good I got another. My friend got the carne asada fries. Very generous portion and she seemed to enjoy. She got the watermelon margarita and stated that it was too sweet and seemed to have very minimal alcohol. Brunch was a home run. Went as a family of 5 and ordered the CA burrito, breakfast burrito with chorizo, huevos rancheros and migas plate. Everything was a generous portion and such fresh flavors! CA burrito was soooo good. We also got half dozen churro donuts at $14. They were 100% worth it. Freshly made that morning and maybe the best churro donut I've ever had. So good! Service Was super attentive and helpful. It was a young girl maybe Mara? So kind and thoughtful with suggestions and help with the kids. Really appreciated her. Definitely recommend. Overall pricey but we got 4 large dishes, coffee and half dozen of donuts for $85 with leftovers. Not bad at all!

Place is cute and tiny. I love the decor however it is just too hot inside! They would not turn on the air conditioner. I came here on a Friday evening for a friends birthday and there were flies everywhere. They need to invest in those fans that keeps flies away or close the doors while others are dining inside.. yuck. I ordered the El Dude which was just okay. Lacking in flavor and in the smallest glass for $15, what a waste. I ordered the Chicken Flautas it was extremely dry and without flavor. I appreciate the size of them. They came plated with four and served with guacamole. The Elote is on the shareable menu when it should be on the side. I suggest that they cut them into bites because you cannot share these taps style while on the Cobb.y friend ordered the burrito and honestly it was the only thing that was pretty great! Another friend got the fish tacos which were light and fluffy with a fried crust but lacking flavor. I would not recommend this restaurant, it's underwhelming.

Happy hour specials are amazing!! Corn for $4, beer for $4, salsa $4. Ambiance and decor is beautiful. Service is great and the owners are very welcoming.

My visit to Ma'Coco was awful. They have no AC, making it uncomfortable. The servers don't put ice in the water. The carne asada is dry in every dish. The margaritas are hit or miss. Sad

Finally found a taste of home! California burrito was excellent and a reasonable price comparatively to other places in Austin. The staff were friendly and pleasant. We liked the beach vibe of the place. Will be back to get our fix.

Food was very meh. Do not see this place staying open long. Only stopped in due to the location, but definitely won't be back.

Went for a Saturday dinner. Place is small and was packed. We sat outside. I ordered mole enchiladas, because I love mole. I told the waitress to let the chef know to be generous with the mole. They brought me a lot and it was delicious - possibly the best I've had in town. The ceviche apetizer was very good if tiny, same as the flan. The mojito hit the spot. I'll be coming back whenever I have a chance.

It's the cutest little spot in East Austin. The service we received from Carolina was excellent. She was very knowledgeable and made great recommendations. I ordered the Chile Relleno and it was sooooo delicious!! It's only one Taco but very filling. As always you must save room for dessert. I ordered the churro donuts and they're to die for. Originally I ordered half a dozen for the table but had to order another to go. Love this place and will continue to visit.
