Macok Bistro

I am extremely impressed with this restaurant. From the moment I walked in, I was struck by the interior design—it’s beautiful, stylish, and refreshingly different from other Hungarian restaurants. I absolutely loved the atmosphere. The service was outstanding. The waiters were exceptionally professional, polite, and genuinely helpful, with great attention to detail. Everything felt smooth and well cared for, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The food was just as impressive—high quality, incredibly flavorful, and wonderfully fresh. Every dish was a delight. This restaurant has definitely become my new favorite in Hungary, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

Nice, friendly vibes and good food. We ordered a steak, chicken supreme, and the kids’ fried chicken — the kids’ meal was amazing and the best dish. We had a good time overall. However, the prices felt a bit high for the location (we’re not in Budapest but in Eger). For example, the steak was over 25 euros and the portion wasn’t very generous.

This was a lovely way to end a romantic solo trip and felt ideal for a woman wanting to treat herself to an elegant evening without the fluff. Having tried many classic Hungarian dishes around Budapest, the meal itself wasn’t the most memorable flavor-wise, but the rosé duck breast was cooked very well, nicely presented, and served in a satisfying portion. I had great service ! The staff were professional, attentive without hovering, and polite. My server was happy to take photos of me as a solo traveler, which I really appreciated. I arrived without a reservation during the final hour of service and shared the space with just a few other tables, which I think added to the overall calm and intimacy of the evening. The food arrived quickly, and my server even called a cab without being asked. Funny enough, my hotel was only a few steps away. With prices as reasonable as they are, this is a place worth returning to try something different next time.

Must visit in Eger! The food was incredibly fresh and balanced. Every component was very well thought out and complemented each other very well. Our server was very kind and helpful. From the temperature of the plate to the timing between courses, every detail was well thought of which made the dining experience that much special. Definitely will be back!

Food had amazing flavours which went together very well. We ordered a creamy chicken and a trout fillet. Chicken was fantastic and a must try. Waiter wasn’t that warm and even one of the forks weren’t clean. Apart from that we had a very positive experience. It’s also very near to the center.

By accidentally, we jumped in a cozy restaurant at a chilly dusk after the visit to the Castle of Eger. It was a fabulous food experience with six courses of gourmet cuisine and the upmost hospitality. This Bistro where I spent the most indelible night deserves to be on Michelin Guide in series.

A place that doesn’t need much explanation. Excellent food, attentive service, and a well-chosen wine list. We arrived around 4 p.m. without a reservation and were seated without any issues. The only minor downside was that the music was a bit loud.

Had the wild boar soup for appetizer and beef cheek for entree with four islands for desert. The soup had lots of pork and it taste was excellent. The beef cheek was tender and the potato mousse was heavenly. Service was good and ambience great. Would come again if ever I come back to Eger from Singapore. Macok deserves every Michelin star it received.
