We ate here 12 months ago and had a good pub meal.
Came back to top of our last night for this year's trip and what a mistake that was.
We ordered a bruschetta for starters, my partner ordered the Atlantic salmon on smashed potatoes and I ordered a scotch fillet with chips, salad and pepper sauce medium rare.
The first issue was the mains arriving before the starter. I was told the bruschetta was coming later.
What is the go with that?
Since when is it normal to have the starter after the main?
I just thought there is no point arguing I just started to tuck into my meal.
The first bite of the steak was dry, I knew straight away it was way over cooked. Sure enough, I cut it in half and it was well done,
I returned the steak and was told they would cook me a new one as the chef thought I wanted well done.
Before my replacement steak arrived my partner had finished her Salmon, this was also over cooked and on the dry side. The potatoes were not smashed they were just quartered and not very well cooked.
The Bruschetta finally arrived and it was average at best. The bread was just toasted, not oven baked. The avocado they used was squeezed from a tube and not fresh, it was horrendous and the overall bruschetta was the worst I have ever been served anywhere.
When my replacement steak finally arrived I cut into it and could not believe it was over cooked again, it was not a little over cooked, it was just as well done as the first.
The chef (if you can call him that) has no idea on how to cook a steak.
I ended up returning the meal again and getting a refund for it and the bruschetta.
This was a really disappointing end to our holiday in Portland, everything else had been good.
As for the atmosphere, half way through our meal they had a band set up and start playing in the dining room. The music was terrible old fashioned crap and way too loud. Not what you want when you are having a quiet meal.
If you want that shit music at your venue then set it up on the bar not the dining room
