It’s rare to find a great value lunch menu these days and within the beautiful historical setting Macs Hotel was great. The dining room had old school charm which felt warm and homely. The lunch menu had plenty of options for around $15. The meals itself were really good and great for a nice lunch. Would defiantly be back if we get the chance. They were doing some Reno’s in the main bar but I’m hoping they keep the old charm of this stunning building.

Large pub with several seating arrangements from small to big groups and private functions. Lights are like a 7/11 brightness, could do with some warm lighting to suit an old pub vibe. Food is extensive and no table service. The dishes are seemingly hit and miss, with a big menu, it can't all be good. My risotto was warmed rice with fillings + toppings and the 'half serve' for $24 was loaded. Korma curry was flavoursome and very good. Drinks and staff were all friendly, warm and attentive.

We ate here 12 months ago and had a good pub meal. Came back to top of our last night for this year's trip and what a mistake that was. We ordered a bruschetta for starters, my partner ordered the Atlantic salmon on smashed potatoes and I ordered a scotch fillet with chips, salad and pepper sauce medium rare. The first issue was the mains arriving before the starter. I was told the bruschetta was coming later. What is the go with that? Since when is it normal to have the starter after the main? I just thought there is no point arguing I just started to tuck into my meal. The first bite of the steak was dry, I knew straight away it was way over cooked. Sure enough, I cut it in half and it was well done, I returned the steak and was told they would cook me a new one as the chef thought I wanted well done. Before my replacement steak arrived my partner had finished her Salmon, this was also over cooked and on the dry side. The potatoes were not smashed they were just quartered and not very well cooked. The Bruschetta finally arrived and it was average at best. The bread was just toasted, not oven baked. The avocado they used was squeezed from a tube and not fresh, it was horrendous and the overall bruschetta was the worst I have ever been served anywhere. When my replacement steak finally arrived I cut into it and could not believe it was over cooked again, it was not a little over cooked, it was just as well done as the first. The chef (if you can call him that) has no idea on how to cook a steak. I ended up returning the meal again and getting a refund for it and the bruschetta. This was a really disappointing end to our holiday in Portland, everything else had been good. As for the atmosphere, half way through our meal they had a band set up and start playing in the dining room. The music was terrible old fashioned crap and way too loud. Not what you want when you are having a quiet meal. If you want that shit music at your venue then set it up on the bar not the dining room

I have been here twice now and it is a nice place to eat, the food is good with generous serves both times. The locals are friendly and are up for a chat. It is mostly your usual pub meals that are available. We will happily return.

I went there yesterday and had a beer. There were heaps of empty tables out the front so I went and grabbed a menu at 545pm. The young girl that gave me the menu was extremely rude. I was by myself which wasn’t usual. My partner was working in Portland. She said rudely you can’t order until 6pm but will have to get out by 630 as they had a lot of bookings. I left there quite upset due to her attitude. I walked past about an hour later and it wasn’t that busy. My partner and I went to the Waterfront restaurant tonight and it was awesome. Apparently the girl at Mac’s that was so rude is called Shakira. Long dark hair with a yellow fringe. Hope karma catches up with her.

Lovely food, service was a bit slow for what was a very quiet Friday night at the start of dinner service. Both in being served and food coming to the table. Bistro was a tad tired, with a vibe suitable for the older generations, certainly family friendly though. Food was yummy and good sized portions

This is a beautiful, historic hotel established in the mid-19th century. The interior is in excellent condition and contains many historic photos of the hotel and the wider Portland township. My wife and I are caravanning and decided to stay in Portland for a week during which time we had lunch at the hotel twice. On both occasions, we really enjoyed the meals and friendly service. There is an excellent lunchtime menu which includes meals costing from $12-15. Drinks are a little on the pricey side with a glass of wine costing $10-12 and a schooner of craft beer about the same. However, the overall value is terrific, and the surroundings are very pleasant, with views of the bay from some of the dining room tables. I'd certainly recommend this hotel for a good, cheap meal.

Had the most amazing steak last night, absolute 10 out of 10! Scotch fillet with mixed vegetables, cooked to perfection with garlic butter.

Yelp
This pub was actually pretty cool, but then again, I probably shouldn't be all that surprised considering that it is located in a rather touristy town. Actually, it certainly stood out from many of the other pubs that I had visited recently, right down to having some rather nice selection of tap beers. The staff were pretty cool, and even though it was a little crowded, there was still places where I could sit. Oh, and the setup inside was also pretty awesome. Yeah, I actually quite liked this pub.

Yelp
The husband and I stopped in for a beer. This wasn't the best bar we'd been to for sure, but, the bartenders were so nice, it warranted an extra star. We even won a furphy's hat! There weren't too many options in town, but regardless it was a good stop.

Yelp
Very cute little cafe, we couldn't find a fish and chip shop so we went here and they had some nice seafood. I had the seafood trio, the squid and chips were delicious, the whiting was tasty, the prawns and salad were a little plain but still good. The prices were pretty good, the trio was $19.90 and most meals were around that price, if not lower. Staff could have been friendlier but they were by no means rude, just a little dull. They've got colouring books and pencils for the kids (and some adults too). But overall a nice place to eat at

Yelp
Don't miss stepping back in time and enjoying a meal in this lovely dining room at the historic Macs Hotel. Extensive menu should have plenty of choices to please anyone and we witnessed many wonderful looking meals coming from the kitchen. Our own meals were delicious and large portions. You will not only enjoy your meal but the entire experience!
