Mad Martha’s Review - Edgartown - Martha's Vineyard - The Infatuation

"With three locations around the island (Edgartown, Oak Bluffs, and Vineyard Haven), it’s basically impossible not to grab a cone from this ice cream shop during a trip to Martha’s Vineyard. They lean heavily on local purveyors for flavor inspiration, so try a scoop of Apple Fritter (made with apple fritters from Back Door Donuts), Chilmark Coffee (made with coffee from Chilmark Coffee Company), or MV Sea Salt Caramel (made with salt from Martha’s Vineyard Sea Salt)." - Tanya Edwards

Best açaí bowl we have ever had. You have to put hot fudge on it! The atmosphere is so fun and welcoming. The food looked very good and staff was nice.

Google
Ice cream was good, shakes were ok but not thick. Price wasn’t too bad! Ordered a small mint Oreo with hot fudge and Oreo crumbles, husband ordered a vanilla shake.

Google
An excellent variety of interesting flavors with lots of options of how to combine them, such as their latest offering, which is Affogato, pouring 2 ounces of espresso over ice cream. I got apple fritter ice cream Affogato though, which was yummy. They were pieces of apple fritter throughout the ice cream, made by a local donut shop

Mad Martha's Ice Cream is a must-visit on Martha's Vineyard! Their ice cream is rich, creamy, and full of flavor—perfect for a summer treat! The variety of flavors is incredible, from classic favorites to unique creations you won't find anywhere else like the MV Sea Salt caramel flavor or the Apple Fritter ice cream. The staff is always friendly and patient, even when the line is out the door. Whether you're grabbing a cone for a stroll through town or sitting down to enjoy a sundae, Mad Martha's never disappoints!

Google
very expensive ice cream. got two different kinds of frappes, a reeses and a strawberry and both had little to no flavor to where they were nearly indistinguishable. service could have been a little cheerier.

Google
Ice cream was great, but have you ever had bad ice cream? Facility was clean, staff was helpful and friendly and the location was easy. Nice assortment of flavors!

Google
If I could give it a 0 star it would be accurate. The girl who was taking my sister order was so rude and her attitude was so bad I decide not to spend my money there. I would highly advise everyone NOT buying anything there. It isn’t worth it. This experience was in July 10 2024

There's absolutely no shortage of good homemade ice cream shops on Cape Cod but when you're on Martha's Vineyard, the pickings dwindle a bit. What you'll find here is a limited selection of typical flavors. There are about 15 flavors to choose from and while it's not bad ice cream, it's also nothing that stands out as you would expect from some of the reviews here. I had a group of 8 and we shared the "pig" or "oink" thing, that allowed us to try a dozen flavors. I picked the mocha chip thinking it would have two of my favorite flavors working in harmony. The sad reality is that there was no mocha flavor and the chocolate chips were scarce. None of the other flavors (mint, oreo cream, Snickers, M&M something something, etc) were memorable either. So if the ice cream isn't great, then what else does this parlor have going for it? Nothing really. The staff wasn't rude but emotionless and not really talkative. It helped paint a dreary experience if it weren't for my group. I don't think I'd be coming back here again.

Yelp
Mad Martha's is simply the best ice cream on the island! We've been coming for over 40 years, and it's consistently delicious. In addition to the ice cream, I really need to comment on the service and staff. When we lost something important to us there at the VH location, the owner and staff went out of their way to return it to us. We can't thank them enough! Mad Martha's saved the day! We can't wait to get back there for more ice cream.

Yelp
Enjoy a cool treat and retreat from shopping in the area. Good flavor selections with only a couple of non-dairy & vegan options. Kid friendly and cute MV merchandise before boarding the ferry ride home! Choice of single up to triple scoop in a cup or cone of choice-cake, sugar or waffle cone. Generous scoop size - was perfect serving for one. Other dessert specialties available.

Yelp
My favorite island ice cream. Great flavors, smiling staff and large scoops of delicious ice cream. What more can I say! Enjoy.

Yelp
Such good ice cream and a staff that can handle large crowds. This is always a favorite MV stop. Try their MV sea salt caramel.

Yelp
My friend recommended this place to me! Not expensive, I got a small waffle cone and it was so good and creamy!!! I couldn't finish it all! A huge assortment of flavors, I selected the Mud Pie since it seemed like one of the more unique flavors. Nice atmosphere as well!

Yelp
This is an annual trip for us and we never miss going to mad Martha's! They never disappoint

Yelp
The blueberry ice cream is the best ice cream I've ever had. I went back for a second ice cream later in the day.

Lisa G.

Yelp
We were looking forward to trying their Mud Pie flavor ice-cream, but it was a disappointment. There were some crushed cookies, mild coffee flavor ice-cream and no chocolate fudge. Sadly, not what we hoped for...

Yelp
Mad Martha's is an MV staple for a good reason! So many delicious flavor of freshly made ice cream. It tastes really milky/creamy with a great texture. I enjoyed the chocolate chip cookie dough. I would have liked a little more cookie dough in the cup, but a single scoop was huge! I think it's cash only so come prepared!

Yelp
If you come from anywhere else but MA you probably think this ice cream is great. I've been coming to the Island for 20+ years and the quality has gone downhill. I thought it might be the temp control at the previous location but the new location in VH has the same issue. The ice cream seems to be loaded with ice crystals that must form during the freezing process. This fact takes any creaminess away.

Yelp
Ice cream just ok. NY prices. Try Smugglers in Dennis. Incredible ice cream. Service is fine. Ambiance bare bones.

Kit C.

Yelp
Stoycho and Raya took great care of us and were super friendly. The ice cream is always wonderful. We always look forward to the new weekly flavors!

Yelp
After a long afternoon taking the bus tour throughout Martha's Vinyard, we wanted to have some ice cream before we left the island. We came across Mad Martha's, and chose this place. They had so many ice cream flavor selections. I went with a scope of peanut butter reeses and a scope of chocolate chip cookie dough. This was a great combo, as both flavors we awesome. I really enjoyed the reeses one, as this is my favorite candy. Overall, great ice cream here.

Yelp
They almost didn't get five stars because of the prices but then I realized, it costs a bit more money to ship in your cream on a daily basis so I'll give them a pass. Apparently, they have locations all around the island I'm pretty sure I also saw one in Oak Bluffs. We decided to skip it because biking back to Tisbury in 85 degree heat after eating ice cream sounded like a disaster in the making. Luckily, there were options in Tisbury prior to hopping on our ferry back to the mainland. It's a fairly new location and feels that way, very bright and cheery inside with fun artwork on the walls. I also read the story about who Mad Martha was, who was born in the 1800's. Just enough seats to handle a crowd of probably 20 folks on those very hot, summer, weekend afternoons. The (exchange student) staff was very helpful and allowed all of the samples you wanted in order to make a choice. We got what we came for, velvety creamy moo cow extract of the finest quality. The peanut butter cream was LOADED with PB cup bits and coupled with the heavy cream, was about as sinful as one can get. I can't remember the exact flavor my wife ordered but she basically licked the bowl clean so I know it was awesome. Like I said, I'm not used to paying over $5 for a small and can't even think of a Boston equivalent. But prices aside, everything about the experience here was top notch and we will be visiting again in future summers.

Yelp
The taste is so good but the price is a little over I don't like the bakery that much but the ice cream on the other hand is so so so so so so so gooooooooooooddddddddd

Yelp
During my last visit to MV, one of my goals was to eat ice cream everyday. After attempting to try all the different ice cream places, Mad Martha's was the one place I kept going back to. It's true that the prices are a bit steep - $7.25 for a malted shake is an example - but when you're on vacation, who cares? If you're not sure what flavor a to try go for the Oreo cream, which many would mistake for cookies & cream but it's different. It's has a darker almost chocolate appearance, and the flavor delivers that a genuine Oreo taste. Butter crunch was also delicious, although the crunch pieces might be tough on your teeth. Nice staff, which turned out to be college students from Romania, were super nice. Just be warned: MM was cash only, so make sure you stop at the bank before treating everyone to ice cream.

Yelp
They have some of the best pistachio ice cream and I'll tell you why. Because it. is not. Green. It is beautiful creamy thick Rich premium ice cream and the people are so nice to serve you actually are intelligent and can speak with you about their product.

Yelp
Good ice cream, the oreo cream is amazing! Staff is quick, friendly and the place is clean.

Chris M.

Yelp
The best ice cream on the island, so says the rumor, just didn't get to it. I hear they have all sorts of flavors, wish I could have gone. Ok so actually went there just before my boat back to Woods Hole. Nice shop, great location.

Matthew C.

Yelp
With all the hype I expected a lot perhaps but was taken aback at the price and flavors. The ice cream was okay but everything was overly creamy, so much that flavor was missing. Instead of a nice bright pineapple orange flavor mixed with cream, the brightness was overly calmed, likewise with the coconut. The prices seemed a bit much especially because the scoops were small. Was a nice and clean shop but again it does match the hype. Wish we had more time to compare to the other shops around.

Alexandra E.

Yelp
The ice cream was ok and a little overpriced. I asked the woman what one of the flavors was and when she described it, I didn't hear her so I asked her to repeat it. When she did, she used a lout voice and sounded it out word by word and then laughed at me to another worker. Rude. Just rude. If you want good ice cream, go to Ben and Bill's where the employees are nice

Kaylee G.

Yelp
Good ice cream, terrible service. The worker was even rude to other worker, very disappointing!

Karli W.

Yelp
Okay customer service but the prices are outrageous! I personally work at an ice cream place that charges $3 for what I paid $5 for. Good ice cream but definitely not going back.
