Don’s 5 Star Dive Bar - Review - MiMo - Miami - The Infatuation

"The good folks at Kush Hospitality have perfected the genre of the “self-aware, semi-ironic, campy Miami” concept. Their latest entry into this genre: Don’s 5 Star Dive Bar, a new cocktail spot directly next to Cafe Kush in MiMo. The bar is decorated with odes to famous Miamians named Don - Don Johnson, Don Shula, and Don Bailey from those horny carpet ads. It’s as ridiculous as it sounds, yet still a fun, loud spot to grab a cocktail, maybe dance a little, and soak in the Miami nostalgia. They also have a waterfront outdoor area where you can chill - in case you need a break from staring at Don Bailey’s gloriously hairy chest." - Ryan Pfeffer

Amazing place! A combination of coffee shop, listening bar and record store that has everything! The wines were very nice, the music was amazing and attention to detail was very delightful. I enjoyed some beers, wine and bought myself an Al Jarreau record, amazing! This place is very chill, peaceful yet playful and exciting in each corner! Prices are ok too, not expensive at all if you come around happy hour. I didn’t order food yet… next time!

Bruh first time going here and I genuinely fell in love with it. The vibes are 10/10. Drinks 10/10. The place is dark. Fun. Excellent music and good Djs. They even have mortal kombat and Pac-Man for you to play and a photo booth. Honestly, it’s a hidden gem 💎

Amazing place for a party, went on saturfay night and had a blast. And place is located by the canal. So you can cool view outside and inside is a dj mixing and you have as well upstairs . Overall must go place High recommended

Love the vibe, the music, service was great. Finding it was tricky and parking was on street but we didn't have to pay for it so that was good. My husband and our friend really enjoyed their pesto, Hawaiian pizzas ✅✅ I got the burger and was not asked how I wanted it done. It was well done ➖ the fries were good though ✅ The music and DJ were on point. I loved everything he played ✅ I was using a crutch so the stairs and the wet floor were a real problem for me ➖ Now for the 🚻 I had to go outside of the restaurant to find the bathroom. It was a one stall. It was clean, passable. Pee or pass: Pee ✅

Yelp
This place was a real vibe! 1000% going back. I popped in for a drink and it did not disappoint. The bartender made the cocktail quick and it was absolutely delicious. You can really taste the espresso and it was the perfect temperature. When you first walk in, it's a more chill bar until you walk downstairs and it becomes super cool. The dj was amazing, she had the crowd moving! It feels like you're underground when you walk in. Everyone was having a great time, you can really tell. The only downside was trying to find parking, you can go find street parking but it can be a bit tricky. I found a spot but I had to really squeeze into it. There is valet next door at Gold Rush but I'm not sure how it works. Overall, I will definitely be returning for another fun night.

Yelp
I really wanted to love this place because of the decor and ambiance but I won't be back. Unfortunately the drinks we ordered were not great. When the espresso and matcha came out in tall glasses like vases with homogeneous color I felt something would be off. As a matcha person, my drink tasted like low quality grassy powder mixed in oat milk unsweetened and I only had a few sips. My partner, who is into coffee, asked the bartender how it was made and received a little bit of a defensive response so he did not ask to have the drink remade. The food was mediocre, could have made this mushroom toast myself and the pepperoni pizza tasted like the frozen grocery kind.

Yelp
Small bar on the Miami river located at a motel, went late in the night for a quick drink. Valet parking was $15 and there was a cover charge of $20 for both men and women. We expressed there was an hour left till closing time and they waived the fee for women while the men still had to pay. Bar had a small outdoor area and a small indoor area where mostly techno was being played. Ordered an Espresso Martini at the bar and it was pretty good had good foam consistency and good amount of alcohol.

Yelp
This is a small restaurant with a limited menu but with that said the food was amazing. Everything was well done and incredibly season. It is found in an motel on Biscayne Blvd in Miami which if you don't know it's there, you miss it. But please find it. You will not be disappointed. The service was great. Our waitress, Elisa, helped use navigate the menu and explained the background of the restaurant. During the day, the ambiance is quiet but at night the music comes alive. Price are extremely good for Miami. So not really expensive and they serve you plenty. Come find this hidden gem in Miami. You will not be disappointed!

Yelp
Was excited to come check this place out as its always had a cool retro vibe / ambiance. I arrive to the first bar upstairs - no security checking ID, cool. Love the local vibes - no cover. Totally relax. I arrive to the upstairs bar where the kitchen is and super cute funky vibes a cool DJ girl playing records. I ordered a Margarita at the bar, when the bartender hands it to me, it looks absolutely beautiful - great presentation. Until i took a sip.... Absolutely horrendous, i immediately asked him to make it again (giving him the benefit of the doubt perhaps he forgot a main ingredient or maybe he was a newbie... ) when the 2nd cocktail came out - it tasted exactly the same. awful - not drinkable. I myself am a bartender so am well aware of what a margarita tastes like. It should be made with fresh lime juice. I am also aware of what sour mix tastes like and this cocktail tasted like neither. I felt bad to send it back again so i paid $20 for it and left. Then i take my cocktail downstairs im thinking maybe if i choose a different bartender they would make it correctly - boy was I wrong - it tasted exactly the same. Undrinkable My conclusion of this entire situation was that they're using the wrong ingredients behind the bar. I gave the girl a tip and then switched to tequila shots because if they couldnt get a classic margarita right at this point i didnt want to risk another awful cocktail. Later , i was having a nice time with my girlfriends and we realized the girl to guy ratio is off. There are 20 men for 1 girl at this place.... I wouldnt mind if the men were respectable - however i was physically grabbed without consent 3 different times. I had to take mens hands off my body and throw them off me. Completely disgusting behavior. The lack of security was concerning who do i go to to report someone touching me without consent? The bartender?? Then the photographer started talking to me and Im being friendly and having normal conversation with him when he suddenly springs his head and mouth towards my neck like hes going to bite it and grunts. 3rd time i had to physically block a man from coming at me. This place has so much potential but theres basic things lacking at this establishment like LIME JUICE & Security guards. Unfortunately as a female i did not feel safe at this establishment and probably wont be back.

Yelp
Nice cocktail bar in the mimo-district! You can park at the hotel, and you will see a mad radio sign, which takes you to the restaurant, which is a diner style type of place with delicious ice cream options. Typically, if you're dressed like you're going out, the staff will kindly instruct you to go downstairs, as that is the party area. Once you make it downstairs, you'll find a really nice cocktail bar with inside/outside area and water view. They have nice options of craft, cocktails, beer, and wine. There's also very creative bartenders, so feel free to request drinks not on the menu. I recommended for groups, birthdays, special locations.

Yelp
I had high hopes for this place. It is walking distance from our house and MIMO really needs a good breakfast place. The good: It's a cool space, nice location, good vibe and server was great. The bad: The food. There were few redeeming qualities. In fact, it was the worst food experience I've had in a long time. Not only would I not recommend eating here, I highly recommend avoiding the food. My wife ordered the avocado toast ($16) and I am 95% confident the "avocado" was simply store bought guacamole spread thinly on a piece of toast sprinkled with seeds. 2/10 My son ordered the pancakes which had lemon in them, not mentioned on the menu and were very dry. The server was kind enough to offer a replacement so he ordered a medium rare burger. The burger arrived 20 minutes later cooked "extra well done." We took it to go and promptly discarded it when we got home. 1/10 I ordered the Eggs Benedict which, according to the menu, (and tradition) is supposed to be served on an english muffin. Mine came on a bagel. Eggs were perfectly cooked and the sauce had good flavor but c'mon!? A bagel? 5/10 I also ordered a side of sausage. Inedible. It was store bought precooked sausage, recooked and forgotten about on the burner b/c it was dry. And, it's hard to dry out chemically laden, store bought sausage. Maybe, just maybe, their business can survive on the motel guests willing to overpay for bad food b/c it is convenient. But, if they want to thrive, they need locals (there are many!) to support them. And with the current chef/management/quality I suspect it will not be around much longer. Note to chef: I understand the need to maximize your margins. However, if you use low quality ingredients, charge premium prices yet customers do not return; are you really better off?
