Madama Garden Retreat, Venice, Italy - Explore & Book

"People come to Venice for the canals and the sights, but it's nice to leave the hordes behind at the end of the day - enter the Madama Garden Retreat in the city’s Cannaregio district. The famous Rialto Bridge and St Mark’s Church are in walking distance, and the canals, well they literally lap beneath your window, leading straight to the Grand Canal itself in a three-minute walk. Yet you feel wonderfully removed from the tourist trail in this off-centre sestiere. A stay here can feel almost sinfully indulgent. From the luxurious satin and silk furnishings in the 9 rooms to the sumptuous sofas and chairs, hand-crafted wallpapers and antique objets – all set off by blissfully intimate low lighting – it’s a heady mix of old Venetian splendour and ultra-modern glamour. At its heart is the garden. With its leafy pergolas, resplendent flower bushes and a path leading straight to the canal (you can also access the hotel by boat), it’s a perfect hidden retreat to take breakfast or unwind with an aperitif after a hard day’s sightseeing. And there are so many sights to see. Even better, the hotel can arrange private tours around some of the city’s most famous attractions, giving you access that everyday tourists can only dream of. A break at the Madama is therefore less of a stay and more of an experience – one unlikely to ever be forgotten. Highs Location: a peaceful neighbourhood where the most famous sites are a 10-20 minute walk away and the gondolas float past your window; you can easily get to the airport via water taxi Impeccable service – whether you want a private tour, tickets to the theatre or breakfast in your room, no request is too big or small The design is to die for – discreet luxury and olde-worlde charm quietly sit alongside modern amenities and elegant comfort The garden itself – a beautiful oasis Eco measures in place include renewable energy, the food is sourced locally where possible and plastic usage is limited Lows An experience like this comes at a price The front desk isn't manned at night It’s not designed for children – there’s an age limit of 15 years old No pool or spa Rooms have a wonderfully moody ambiance, which can feel dark on cloudy winter days" - Handpicked by our hotel experts

Each of the reviews I read are spot-on: this is a fantastic place to stay! The location is absolutely perfect: about a 15-minute walk to the Rialto Bridge, and about 25-minutes to St. Mark's Square. It is so quiet, yet just minutes away from shopping and restaurants. The garden will thrill you! It so beautiful and peaceful. Breakfast (which is amazing) on the patio will get your day started the right way. We had the Iris canal/garden suite. It was so big and comfortable. Plus, we were right next to the canal and spent a lot of time watching the traffic on the canal. The staff, Mara, Alberto, Rippon and Lorenzo were fabulous. They will take care of your every need! We spent four nights there and it was perfect. I would not stay anywhere else in Venice. Thank you for taking such good care of us!

My wife and I spent two nights in Madame Garden Retreat and it has been an unforgettable experience! On arrival, Alberto welcomed us and confirmed that we have been upgraded for our stay, which was a great start. Our room was clean, spacious and had great views over the canals. The property itself is tucked away from the main tourist route, allowing you to enjoy a moment of quiet (and shade) in their garden over a glass of Aperol. During our stay, Alberto gave us some great tips that helped us take the most out of the visit. Overall, it felt like staying in someone’s Venetian house rather than a hotel, which made our time more special. We will most certainly be back!

Simply a wonderful tranquil garden spot to hide from the August crowds and to saunter the canals. Beautiful breakfast (the scrambled egg was just so yummy and there are more pastries, fruit and yoghurt than you could possibly wish for. Comfy bed, pretty decor, and staff who are very happy to make suggestions, seek reservations and to make your life easy. A fabulous hotel.

This is a magical space in Venice - sitting in the garden and looking at the canals is a once in a lifetime experience. The breakfast is extraordinary and sitting outside in the garden to eat is a joy. It is a perfect location outside the madness but within easy walking distance to it all.

Gorgeous boutique hotel with individually designed rooms. Lavish breakfasts in a sun-dappled garden. An oasis of calm, but just a stone’s throw from the bustling canal-side bars and restaurants of Cannaregio. Grazie mille to our most wonderful hosts Mara and Lorenzo!

We were lucky enough to stay five nights here and could not have been happier. Mara, Lorenzo and everyone else went out of their way to make sure that we had the best possible experience. The accommodation offered every possible amenity and having the mini kitchen was very convenient. The bed was perfect from our point of view with wonderful linens. While they serve a lovely breakfast and there is a Nespresso unit in the room, there is no on site restaurant. However, it's Venice and steps outside the front door is an amazing selection of great restaurants, wine bars, gelaterias, bakeries and cafes offering everything you could want. We loved the location - away from the crowds but a relatively short walk from all the sites and vaparetti stops. I understand why they call it Garden Retreat. The staff - and I hesitate to call them that as they became like friends - have fantastic advice and suggestions on things to do, places to eat and how to get there. They also were very helpful with reservations or could tell you if they were even needed. We were sorry to leave and truly look forward to returning in the not too distant future. PS Our visit just happened to coincide with the feast of San Martin (it's a treat to see all the groups of school children parading through the streets 'playing' their instruments) There is a tradition involving baking special San Martin cookies to celebrate the day and the Madama staff left one for us in our room with a printed explanation - photo attached. It was delicious

Madama is an absolutely luxurious and ridiculously stylish oasis in a wonderful location in Venice. We loved everything about Madama but especially the service. The hotel booked dinner for us every night in wonderful restaurants they recommended and gave us super helpful advice. Arriving by water taxi at the private jetty was a memory we will keep forever. The rooms are all unique and beautifully designed with incredible decor with gorgeous amenities and Diptyque products in the bathrooms. Cannot recommend Madama enough for a very special and luxurious Venice stay.
