Madame Puffs & Thai Bistro - Review - Lincoln Square - Chicago - The Infatuation

"At this solid Lincoln Square spot, the Thai puffs prove they’re worthy of the restaurant's name. Each pastry pocket has a delicate flakiness and comes with fantastic savory fillings like peppery basil chicken or curry chicken. We’d gladly make a light on-the-go meal out of them, and add one of the sweet versions for dessert. Madame Puffs also has plenty of showier entrees—panang curry gets poured tableside next to abstract art while full tables of friends snap pictures of kao soi that suspends chopsticks in the air thanks to fried noodle engineering. But while the gravity-defying noodles and curries are solid (albeit with occasionally overcooked proteins), if you want a casual sit-down meal in the area, the puffs are the main reason to swing by. Food Rundown Puffs These stuffed pastries come with a variety of sweet and savory fillings and can be ordered to-go from the counter at the front. You can’t go wrong with any of the savory options like curry chicken with spiced potatoes, basil chicken, and shredded spicy pork. And for the sweet ones, our favorite is the pineapple—the fruity filling nicely complements the buttery shell. photo credit: John Ringor Thai Fish Cakes Our favorite non-puff appetizer. They’re soft with plenty of lemongrass flavor and come with a sweet chili sauce for a little kick. photo credit: John Ringor Kao Soi With Chicken Any time this makes its way from the kitchen to a table with its fried noodle-chopstick sculpture, a few wandering eyes and some audible “wows” will accompany it. But while the smoky and slightly sweet curry is tasty, the chicken is a bit dry. photo credit: John Ringor Panang Curry With Ribeye Their panang curry is served in a little pitcher and poured over carrots, asparagus, and a protein of choice. The rich and nutty curry is great, but gets overpowered by the marinade of the beef—which, like the chicken in the kao soi, is also a little overcooked. photo credit: John Ringor" - John Ringor

First off, this place is decked out in spangle gold. It's like the Thai Mar-Lag-O, but not as kitsch. The greeting when we walked through the door was warm and we were instantly seated and treated to one of the best Thai meals we have had in Chicago. A bit of context, I've been eating Thai food since the mid-90s. I'm sort of addicted to it. My family and I have traveled across Thailand and I've spent a few vacations in culinary heaven there. So, hear me when I say that Madame Puffs is doing something very right. The presentation alone (see the snaps) is jaw dropping. Every detail is thought out, from the pouring of the water with a golden bamboo-shaped water jug, to the pouring of the curry sauce onto the bowl. Even the steam release of my wife's dish was a wow moment. But, none of this is relevant without the quality food. And, everything we had was fantastic.

I had a wonderful dining experience here! I ordered the noodles and the shrimp dish, and both were absolutely delicious. The noodles were rich and flavorful, beautifully presented, and had a perfect mix of textures and toppings. The shrimp was fresh and cooked just right — full of flavor with a nice balance of seasoning. Our server, Toast, was incredibly friendly and attentive throughout the meal. They made us feel welcome and took great care of us. The overall atmosphere was elegant, and the attention to detail in both the food and service really stood out. Highly recommend this place — I’ll definitely be back!

Just had the chance to try Madam Puff and I’m honestly impressed. The place has a cozy, creative vibe with a touch of fine dining. The food looks beautiful and tastes even better. As a Thai, I can say they’ve really nailed the flavors in a way that feels authentic yet modern. What stood out the most for me was their Thai style puff pastries with a variety of fillings something super rare to find in the U.S. Personally, I loved the pork with holy basil filling. So good! Highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the area. ❤️❤️❤️

This Thai fusion restaurant is truly amazing! The food tastes so good — every dish is full of flavor and beautifully presented. I was really impressed by the quality. The price is very fair for what you get. It feels like eating in a 5-star fine dining restaurant! The decoration is super elegant with black and gold tones, which give the place a luxury and stylish vibe. I felt like I was having a special night out. The service is also excellent — the staff are friendly, professional, and very attentive. I really recommend this place to everyone who loves Thai food with a modern twist. You will not be disappointed! I will surely come back again soon.

I recently visited Madame Puffs and Thai Bistro, and I can honestly say it’s become one of my new favorite spots in Chicago! The vibe as soon as you walk in is incredible—warm, inviting, and full of energy. ✨ The flavors? Absolutely unreal. I’m a big fan of Thai food, and this place completely elevated the experience with fresh, locally sourced ingredients and creative twists on traditional dishes. 🌶️🍜 Each bite felt like a new adventure for my taste buds! 😋 I came in for a quick bite, but ended up staying longer than I planned, enjoying every moment. If you're looking for something special, don’t miss this place! I’ll definitely be back soon! 📍👯‍♀️

We went for a date night and it didn't disappoint! Food had really fun unique presentations, but stayed true to the Thai dish flavors. The dish with suspended chopsticks looked very cool and was also delicious. Even my curry had the sauce poured at the table. It's BYOB which I didn't realize, but next time would bring a drink. They use a lot of the butterfly pea powder to make things purple or blue. I probably wouldn't bring our kids here since the decor and vibe is more upscale.

We ordered a few dishes and shared among the group. The shrimp appetizer was amazing. Mango sticky rice was the best I’ve had. Stir fried snapper was good but could have been a little more tender. The pastry puff (ground meat of some kind) was absolutely delicious.

The newest Thai place in Lincoln Square, but with a whimsical modern flair! Came in for a quick bite and loved their section of puffs, which are like Thai empanadas. Barbie helped me narrow down what to try. Of the 6 I got, my favorite were Chicken Curry, Chicken Basil, Mixed Veggie, & Pineapple. Taro was hearty & shredded dried pork with chili paste had a deliciously distinct flavor. While $4.25 each, you can get 3 pack, 6 pack, 10 pack, or 12 pack. I did 6 for $21 with no regrets. They’ll heat them up 4-5 min in an air fryer if you’re willing to wait a bit, which I totally recommend! Will definitely be back to try the main courses.
