"A new location of popular patisserie Mademoiselle Collete — this one in Redwood City at 2401 Broadway — has opened this week. The bakery, from owner Debora Ferrand, is the third after Palo Alto and Menlo Park locations, Palo Alto Online reports, and like the rest, serves pastry made with imported French butter." - Caleb Pershan

Great pastries, good coffee, excellent if limited menu, with a classy ambiance it's an ideal stop for both a quick coffee or a more fulfilling brunch. There's a clear passion for well executed techniques and quality ingredients. Not exactly cheap, but you get what you pay for. It has become one our favorite bakery's/pastry shops that also works for a nice weekend lunch outing.

I came here with friends for breakfast and was really impressed. The pastries and coffee were excellent, and the service was friendly and attentive. The place was spotless, and the music created a perfect atmosphere. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Google
Lovely place for Sunday morning! Good coffee. Pastries are luscious if not quite with that shattering French crunch. The sandwich took me back to so many travels… delicious!

Google
Their almond croissant is unreal!! All of their pastries are so fluffy and delicious. There's plenty of seating indoors and outdoors, with a really cute interior. The staff were very kind and fast. The only downside is that it's quite expensive!!

Christina Belasco

Google
This was hands down the best pastry I have had in my life!! Mouthwatering! Makes you want to thank the chef and learn how to bake! I’ve also gotten the almond croissant here, absolutely incredible but the balance of flavors on this raspberry thing blew me away

Google
This coffee shop offers exceptional pastries, coffee, and ambiance, making it ideal for a quick coffee or a more substantial breakfast, including sandwiches, quiches, and salads. The service is excellent, and the dining area is clean and inviting. A wide selection of pastries is also available.

Google
Great coffee and amazing pastries, the sandwiches and matcha are okay. The vibe of the café is great—super chill and welcoming. It’s a perfect spot to hang out, grab a coffee, and enjoy the atmosphere!

Google
Charming bakery, but the Basque cheesecake was extremely bad. My wife, who generally loves cheesecakes of all sorts, could hardly stomach two bites. Very disappointing.

Yelp
Outstanding almond croissant and chocolate almond croissant, which I ordered through waiter.com. Lots of almond filling and large size. Delicious! The more authentic french bakeries in the area the better, so I don't need to go to France. One day we will try to drop in and see the bakery in person.

Yelp
02.05.2025. My brother picked up some pastries for my birthday. Lemon meringue tart. Caramel kougin aman. The lemon meringue tart was super tart, but in a good way. The punchiness of the lemon balanced nicely with the sweet torched meringue. Definitely mouth puckering. Caramel kougin aman was delicious too. The caramel, the flakiness with the pastry, baking perfection (at least to my novice baking palate). My brother also got me a matcha latte, which was okay. Not enough matcha for me. It also was unsweetened (I'm fine with that, I just add sugar myself but for those who are looking to order matcha to keep in mind). As a fyi, I did find a hair in the lemon tart. It was pretty long and imbedded into the tart crust (we double checked because as a long haired girlie, I get hair everywhere). We had taken the pastries home so we called the store to tell them about the incident. They told us to return to the store and gave us a $25 gift card, which was nice, but one tart is already over $10. I do appreciate that they were attentive to this matter. Overall, would I return? Yes, to use the gift card lol. But besides that, the pastries were really good.

Yelp
Today I Learned: stick to the pastries and baked goods. Their almond croissant, as many have raved, is OH EM GEE delicious. Today I made the mistake to pop in for a Parisian - after all, what else says light, quick, affordable, Paris street food than a Parisian baguette sandwich? I got the chicken with sun-dried tomato. The flavors were good, but I was shocked at the price: $18.50. Only because I was really hungry, not feeling great, and the gal had already troubled herself to go get it for me did I go through with the transaction but had I known upfront that was the price I would've passed and gone elsewhere. I think that price would've been justified it if there was a good amount of chicken breast, but I could tell it was good quality just skimpy on the ingredients. While I would enjoy eating one again, it's not something I can see myself justifying in the future. That said, their sweet pastries are the way to go here. Croissant anything, flakey anything, cookies, etc. If I was rating their croissants, specifically the almond one, this would be a five star rating, hands-down. This is not a spot that I would come to on the regular. It's very cute for a coffee date or meeting with the gals but beyond that it's grab a to-go box. In terms of their coffee, it's just OK. When I'm looking for a quick cup of coffee that taste like quality I usually go elsewhere given all the choices on the peninsula and near Redwood City. I might suggest that partner with a local (or better) roaster, or maybe bring in some organic regenerative coffee of a higher quality.

Yelp
Always on the search for a great Kouign amann. We happened to be in Redwood City. I saw other Yelpers had recommended this place. A very popular cafe with a great looking display case full of pastries. I ended up getting the plain and Carmel Kouign amann. Both tasted very fresh and buttery. They had that crispy sugary texture you come to expect. As with most downtown locations, parking is a problem.

Chris N.

Yelp
My wife got food poisoning from the salmon Benedict. (We had an unpleasant experience overall for Sunday brunch: the service was poor, they messed up the order, and the food was cold.)

Yana I.

Yelp
A great spot for breakfast in Redwood City! The eggs with salmon, avocado toast, and almond croissant are our go-to favorites. The quality of the food ingredients is excellent, and the team is friendly and attentive. However, they can seem a bit understaffed during the morning rush. The elegant French-made porcelain dishes add a refined, Parisian touch to the experience.

Aaron C.

Yelp
Those who live in RWC know this is one of if not the best bakeries in the city. They make consistently good pastries and keep things varied with the seasons. The line out the door is proof!

James H.

Yelp
Was walking in downtown Redwood. I happen to come upon this place casually. I don't I meant to stop here, but I saw the interior of this place and looked like quaint little Cafe, which always intrigues me, I tried look for a sign of the place outside, but could not find it, so I was even more intrigued. I went in and finally found the name of this cafe called Mademoiselle Colette. I have never experienced this just because I have never been to France or let alone Europe, but the vibe I felt made me feel like I was in a small little quaint bakery in Paris. I decided to try a kouign amann for the first time. I am no pastry expert but if I were to describe it has crossiant like texture with a cup cake like shape. It was buttery and sweet. Had it with a simple cup of coffee. I will have to try their other pastries next time. Heard their almond crossiant is good. Will have to try next time.

Priscilla W.

Yelp
I'm drawn to the minimalistic, modern, and bright aesthetics of French-inspired bakeries. Upon walking into Mademoiselle Colette, you're greeted by a long display case of beautiful pastries and desserts and wall-mounted shelves adorned with miscellaneous props such as glass display stands, bird cages, and tower boxes. A coworker and I visited about an hour before closing on a weekday, and we ordered the raspberry tart, a regular latte, and a matcha latte. The raspberry tart was a delicious afternoon treat, with fresh raspberries balancing well with light and airy whipped cream. Raspberry jelly filling gave the dessert an extra sweet and tartness. But for a bakery like Mademoiselle Colette to serve the food on a paper plate was a little disappointing, kind of downgrading the dining experience. Nevertheless, I'd return to try their other pastries.

Mary A.

Yelp
Ever since getting back from Paris, I've been seeking out French bakeries to get my croissant fix. We were in Redwood City today, and I found this spot when browsing Yelp. Seeing the latte and pastry options, I knew I had to swing by! The sights of the pastries when you first enter the shop are just gorgeous! Very intricate breads and treats galore! I had to get my hands on a croissant, so I did just that. The croissant was buttery and flakey, as it should be. Also the layers!! It'll set you back a little over $5 but hard to find solid croissants at a cheaper price these days! I also ordered the 16 oz French macaron latte - the latte is more reminiscent of macaron shells, not including the filling. Not too sweet overall and not burning hot upon arrival too! Also they sell Orangina!!! This drink is so hard to find outside of France. If you haven't had it, it's basically sparkling orange juice with a hint of pulp that isn't too sweet. Absolute must get alongside their pastries!

Yelp
Fresh cakes, sandwiches, salads and more. Great location, energetic and friendly servers. Perfect place for breakfast or lunch if you in the area.

Negin D.

Yelp
My experience was definitely 5-star. The cappuccino was delicious, the Florentine was beyond delicious, the ambiance was very demure and the service was excellent. The only downside is that it's $$$, but that might help with not going there everyday and not gaining weight LOL

Renee L.

Yelp
I stopped by here and got an almond croissant. It was sweet but not too overpowering. The almond croissant was flat and had crunch on the top and the side edges. It was a bit mushy at the bottom but overall not bad. I would like to come back next try their other treats. Service was good and staff was friendly. The place has a very modern and elegant look to it and has both indoor and outdoor seating.

Krys Y.

Yelp
I love Mademoiselle Colette, but I never seem to get there early enough to have a good selection to choose from. Luckily everything I have ever gotten was delicious. Last time I went, I got a matcha latte from them for the first time. I loved it. The reason I loved it was because it was not sweetened. So many places use sweetened powder, so even when I ask to have it unsweetened it ends up sweeter than I would like. The service here is always great. Even when the line it ridiculously long, they move people through pretty quickly. To top it all off, the place is SO cute! Super aesthetic. I also love that they have outdoor seating available.

Yelp
A little bit of Paris in the Redwood City. Oui Oui. Mais c'est pas vrai? Bien sûr. Mademoiselle Colette's bakery doesn't have a lot of signage outside but follow your nose and the line of people. The idyllic white chairs in the patio hint at a Boulangerie et Patisserie nearby if the line of customers and the smell of freshly baked croissants aren't clues enough. Inside, a hello is welcomed but if you're still in French mode like me, 'Bonjour' will do. The pasties are up front and take the case real estate from left to middle followed by the Croissants with Ham and Cheese, Kouign-amann, Butter Croissants and Pain au Chocolat at the far right. The bakery goods are less expansive here than at Janjou Pâtisserie in Boise which is surprising. Keep in mind that a butter croissant at most certified boulangeries in Paris cost about 95 cents. So for the price of one at Mme Colette, one could in theory buy six in Paris. But alas, we're in not Paris. C'est Dommage!!! How good are the croissants et pain au chocolats? Pretty close to being there. The flakiness is right, the crunch is there, the buttery soft swirls insides are all thoughtfully recreated. The Kouign-Amani were some of the best I've ever tasted. Mademoiselle Colette is a legitimate French bakery in Redwood City and while we didn't get a chance to go back the next day, I would go back knowing that i would have to fight for a parking spot, get in line, and be tempted by all the pastries just to get my hands on a croissant.

Kimberly L.

Yelp
Love this place! The chai latte was delicious and the croque madam was super yummy! I came here with a bunch of friends and servers were fast and friendly! I'll be back for sure.

Lyn L.

Yelp
Fancy and a bit pricey... but if you want a treat, great place to go for nice pastry and coffee. Located in downtown Redwood City is a charming bakery. Nice display of good, tables tucked into the corners. It's gets busy, so go early!

YJ L.

Yelp
Love the Palo Alto and Menlo Park locations, and the Redwood City location is just as amazing. At 2 PM ish on a Saturday, most of the pastries and cakes have been cleared out, but I was luckily able to snag a slice of lemon and carrot cake! Lemon cake is way more dense than the carrot, and for someone who hates carrots, I love this carrot cake and will never turn it down. (~ $7.50 per slice) Drip coffee and hazelnut iced latte are on par with the other locations I've been to--I love how consistent all 3 shops are with their quality and customer service. Only gripe (not even that big of a deal): lack of signage on the building. Super easy to miss if you don't know where to look. Big windows, nice lighting, saw some people doing work, saw some people catching up. Also looks like they have a little cozier side room. Lots of tables and chairs outside on their patio deck (train might occasionally interrupt though because MC is located right next to the Caltrain station. Street parking and little lot nearby. Spent $24 on 2 coffees and 2 slices of cake.

Marion D.

Yelp
Expensive but delicious: both Butter Croissant (huge) and Hazelnut Latte. Service from young staff was indifferent: No greeting. I had to ask for a napkin. I will go back for a second try...

Shizuka T.

Yelp
Came here at 8am on a Friday morning right as it opened. They had 10 customers lined up in front of me and more people lined up. I got an 8oz drip coffee, 1 original kouign-amann, 1 goat cheese kouign-amann, 1 almond croissant, and 1 valentine's edition chocolate mousse. Everything was delicious. I probably came here 3x over the span of a week when I was visiting a friend. Definitely get in line early in the morning if you want your choice of pastries. Ambiance is a clean french cafe. Smallish and not too many tables. Depending on when you come, the service can be amazingly helpful to anxiety-inducing French attitude. Nothing different from any other French bakery. Definitely give it a try if you are in the area!

Jen L.

Yelp
This was a cute, quaint bakery in Downtown Redwood City. It seemed clean and the display case was full of yummy looking pastries and baked goods. My son was very excited to see small desserts available so that he could try more than one thing and hold them in his little hands. He really enjoyed the Raspberry Financier and the Raspberry Macaroon. His exact words regarding the macaroon were "It was perfect. Crispy outer shell and moist inside. It was easy to eat." He also enjoyed the Raspberry Financier. I'm only docking a star for their customer service because the person helping us was very confused. She first tried to charge us for the larger Raspberry Macaroon which I didn't even know existed. Once corrected, she only charged us for the smaller Raspberry Macaroon and I had to ask again for the Raspberry Financier.

Daria S.

Yelp
Wonderful coffee and French pastries. You will find a huge variety of butter and decadent breakfast items and desserts here. We had chasson aux pommes and pain au chocolat . Both were excellent. The pastry Case takes straight to France. Décor feels French authentic. Service is super quick and friendly.

Keila P.

Yelp
Stopped by here to grab a sweet treat with a friend and her dog. There was outside seating which was perfect for our situation. I stepped inside and they had lovely cute French pastries that looked absolutely perfect it was hard to decide which to pick. I had some coffee with our dessert and the quality of items was superb. The wait staff was kind and patient while I took a moment to ponder my decision. She anticipated my needs well, thank you !

Ryan C.

Yelp
This is one of the best pastries shops in the bay, excellent fresh ingredients and quality you can taste :) honestly you cannot go wrong with any items here! From pastries to sorbet to coffee, everything stands out I have deep respect how they do everything well. The interior is also cute, service was gentle, kind and attentive.

Amanda Y.

Yelp
Received a follow up call after my previous review and they offered to remake the cake for me! The cake was pretty and met the expectations.

Lindsay L.

Yelp
Mademoiselle Colette is amazing! Very high quality ingredients! The sweet and savory options are both great. I don't find it the most comfortable place to sit- the tables are small and it's seems a little bit squished. That being said, it's worth it for how delicious the food is. The coffee is also great. Note- if you want to order full tarts or cakes you have to order ahead. They only have small options to buy on the spot.

Nancy C.

Yelp
Quick take: delicious food and pastries The food at MC is excellent. Presentation and flavor are always on point. I need a few more raises to eat here more often. Pricey but very good quality.

Candice H.

Yelp
Came here for a group breakfast and it was so cute! Didn't even know it was in the area. Their egg plates are delicious. Sandwiches are good I heard. Pastries are great but can be pricey. There are so many desert options that I haven't tried too. I would def get their morning buns (actually called something else). They are my fav. They def know how to make a good coffee too. This is the type of place I'd like to sit and work at.

Amisha S.

Yelp
Review based on just coffee. Had the Mochaccino and requested it cold which was a mistake. Tasted like they just added cold milk to it. Indoor tables could be cleaner. Also didn't ask my friend what size of coffee she wanted and gave her something by default. Really expensive for very small cup of coffee

Christina M.

Yelp
Love this bakery. I was meeting a friend who I've only ever known virtually in Redwood City. I arrived a bit early so I walked around downtown on a beautiful afternoon. Some things are as I remembered but this place was new to me. I saw the pastries through the window and that was enough for me to stop and go inside. Everything I ordered for to go was absolutely delicious. The chocolate chip cookies were amazing. This is my favorite type of cookie and I can be pretty picky about what I like, these were perfect! I enjoyed a really nice cup of tea and the staff there were lovely. The tea bags were fancy, made of cloth. Who knew that was a thing lol. So glad I stopped in.

Krista R.

Yelp
This is such a cute little breakfast spot. You walk in and feel like you have traveled across the long to France. The decor, the pastries all match the Parisian vibe. I was greeted upon entering the door. I ordered the croissant Benedict. I really wanted a breakfast sandwich but also loved eggs Benedict. This was delicious. The croissant was flakey and just so light. The egg was cooked perfectly and the hollandaise was perfectly flavored. The flavors of everything really complement each other extremely well. The salad was also light and refreshing. Service was quick and everyone was polite. They had this cute little book I tucked away in to eat my meal. I ordered some pastries to go and they were also amazing. The chocolate croissant, and the goat cheese kouign aman was so tasty. 10/10 recommend this place

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
After hearing so much about how amazing Mademoiselle Colette is and how the butter is apparently flown in from France (no idea if this is true), I finally broke down and stopped by on a weekday morning. The pros are that 1) the service was excellent, very friendly, and very speedy and 2) the ambiance was very lovely and calm with soft music playing and a steady trickle of customers coming through. However, the almond chocolate croissant screamed of butter, and not in a good way. All I could taste was pure butter and chocolate. I don't think I have ever not finished a croissant in my entire life and I ended up throwing half away. In hindsight, I should have realized something was wrong since it looked like a brick and was just so incredibly dense, nothing like the light fluffy buttery almond croissants in France. Given that it cost $7, and a perfectly fine cappuccino cost another $6, the whole experience was just a little laughable. I am genuinely curious to hear what French customers think of this bakery as the prices alone are sickening ($20 for a breakfast croissant with a poached egg LOL), but I figured the prices would be justifiable in the Bay Area if the pastries are truly outstanding.

Mishelle W.

Yelp
Wonderful, beautiful pastries and the lattes are made to perfection!! Had the most amazing egg, garlic Sandwhich with salad!! All just perfect

Jay G.

Yelp
One of the worst Cortado's I have ever had, and I'm not picky about the coffee!! An hour later and I still can taste the bad, bitter and maybe old coffee that I had there. Anyways the pastries look great, this review if for their coffee.

Sophia P.

Yelp
Pastries are very good, never disappoints :) would definitely start every morning with a "Almond Chocolate" croissant if I could!!

Aayusha B.

Yelp
I love their Almond Crossiant. I just wish that they would make it little less sugary if possible. Best of the best. Service is friendly and quick.

Maurine S.

Yelp
Met a friend here for brunch on Wednesday morning, as RWC was a good midpoint for us. There was a line so we were quite excited about trying this place out. The two people working the counter were not very friendly. I saw the brunch menu outside so I wanted to order brunch, but I was frostily told they did not serve brunch yet. Why put the menu outside then? I took their lack of friendliness or helpfulness as trying to be "french". Hahahah. So my friend ordered the Parisien Breakfast, which was a fancy phrase for baguette, butter and a small jar of jam (9.50). The bread was toasted but not out of this world. I ordered the Croque Monsieur which was basically a fancy cheese bread toast with a think slice of ham that came with a small salad. I also ordered a mocha and managed to spend about $30. Needless to say, I won't be coming back to eat a meal. I may stop by to pick up a pastry tho!

Sandee L.

Yelp
The kouign amaan is top notch! It's buttery with tons of flaky layers and it is HUGE! The chocolate croissant, also giant sized, was light, crunchy and flaky, but I would have liked more chocolate! I didn't care for the almond croissant, which was filled to the brim with almond paste, but was dense and a bit soggy. The take away: their pastries are ginormous. They're about 1.5x the size of a pastry elsewhere. I'd go back for the kouign amaan in a heartbeat.

Jennifer H.

Yelp
Price and price change process: 0 stars Pastries: 4.5 stars Be really careful when you buy something there and ask for the receipt. This has happened multiple times now that they advertise a price and end up charging more. For example the goat cheese pastry was advertised for $6 and they charged $7. Their prices are already very unreasonably high and they even charge extra... On the positive side most of their pastries are pretty tasty

Michelle W.

Yelp
I can't believe I haven't tried mademoiselle colette sooner! I've been looking for a patisserie closer to Palo Alto and I'm so happy to have discovered this place They actually have multiple locations but I came to the one in Redwood City before my hike. Fluffy crossoints, cute seating, and yummy lattes like a French macaron latte :) Great place for meeting someone for coffee, catching up with a friend, or just a lazy solo day. Will be back!

Kevin D.

Yelp
This place has always been my go to for lunch when I'm in the area. The service is good and the food is always great. Definitely a little steep in terms of price but I'm willing to forgo that considering how well made everything is. I wish they had one of these closer to me by Millbrae!

Sue P.

Yelp
Food/bakery not the best. Menu is very limited. Coffee ok maybe they need a different brand. Service...a bit snobby. Atmosphere small and crowded...tables/chairs too close together. Not a place to enjoy a cup of coffee and pastry. Outside seating...not a very clean and comfortable place.

Alexander W.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the Kouign Amann, it was the right amount of crunch, salty, and sweet. The latte was good. Service was fine. I like that there is a variety of indoor and outdoor seating, and the display of a big mix of pastries was a nice touch. It did feel a little chaotic with different decor styles all around the cafe and the coffee machines whirring. But then I see the hats made of macarons displayed on the shelves in front of mirrors and I smile.

Yoojin S.

Yelp
Cute bakery in Redwood City! Bougie and petite with plenty tables indoors and outdoors. We got a tiny chocolate mousse cake ($11). Strong chocolate flavor, pretty sweet, and delicately crafted. While it looks tiny, a few bites is enough! We enjoyed it but weren't too impressed by it to finish it. It was a good place to share conversations though! We ate the cake in, and the utensils they gave us were compostable. Yay! But there were no compost bins in sight.

Michelle C.

Yelp
Their pastries are so good! Love their pavlova and coffee options. I had their exotic pavlova and cappuccino.

Tony C.

Yelp
This place hardly ever picks up their phone so I find that I typically have to go in and order. Since my mornings are usually pretty busy, I prefer places I can order ahead to save time. We are talking about spending 15-20 minutes there if you are ordering food (which adds up over time!). Keep this in mind when deciding to come here. The food is great. They have a lot of good baked options, various breakfast dishes, and a good selection of coffee. Staff is nice and friendly as well. 5 stars for their food and coffee options (both top notch!). 1 star for the inability or difficulty in ordering ahead, hence the 3 star overall review.

Agnes P.

Yelp
Met a friend for lunch yesterday and wanted a dog friendly patio. The deserts looked amazing and we go croissants and coffee. Super cute place and the best customer service! Truly appreciate how helpful everyone was to make our meal seamless.

Max S.

Yelp
Finding this place was an incredible stroke of luck. After visiting the San Mateo County Offices, my wife and I were looking for a coffee shop just to grab a cup of coffee, but instead stumbled upon a fantastic breakfast spot. Home-cooked eggs and salmon. Coffee that's not overdone and delicious. Just pure bliss! The Pavlova dessert deserves special mention. A meringue cake with whipped cream and fresh fruit, named after the famous Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova. We deeply respect everything related to Russian history, especially when it comes to food. Highly recommend a visit! Thank you!

LionKat B.

Yelp
What a great little gem! Nice service, bubbles and I love the little tables scattered about inside & outside. Can't wait to go back and try some of the pastries they looked so delicious. While we were sitting there we saw croissants coming out fresh from the oven! Yum
