"Maderas, a romantic (and colorful) Mexican restaurant in Montrose, is a great spot for a third or thirtieth date. Located in a strip center, Maderas feels unpretentious, yet still stylish with tropical plants, massive floral murals, and plush booths. And the food is full of flavor, from plates of crispy golden flautas in a pool of salsa verde or blue corn tortillas lying beneath charred octopus tentacles. Plus being surrounded by what feels like hundreds of LED candles makes any last-minute date night feel special, even if you’re just wearing a T-shirt." - gianni greene, chelsea thomas

"Maderas makes you feel comfortable the minute you walk in. The dining room of Maderas Kitchen & Cantina, a Mexican restaurant in Montrose, which is lit by the flicker of what feels like hundreds of LED candles, could easily be a Bachelorette venue. Because despite being housed in a bland strip center, the interior is cozy and overflows with tropical plants and massive floral murals.  The approachable menu casually blends staple Tex-Mex and Mexican dishes together. Sure, you can get chips and queso to start, but you can also snack on paprika-spice trompo de pulpo tacos or serrano-spiced flor de calabaza quesadillas. Cocktails spiked with habanero syrup, tamarindo, and aged tequila feel like a tailored suit with a colorful handkerchief: classic, yet playful, and designed to compliment the food. Even better, a meal at Maderas doesn’t cost an entire paycheck. In fact, you might feel like you’re getting away with something when the bill arrives, especially after splitting a couple toasted marshmallow carajillos and fluffy churros with rich leche quemada. Service is fun and friendly, somehow balancing being attentive but not overbearing, as though you’re at a familiar neighborhood spot. More dressed up than most , but considerably less expensive than other high-end Mexican restaurants, like , Maderas is unpretentious yet stylish. You could literally bring anyone here—a coworker, a grandmother, a third-tier friend—and have a fantastic time. And with plush booths perfect for snuggling, the romantic and colorful Maderas is a great spot for date night, whether it’s your third or thirtieth. " - Chelsea Thomas

I have been here numerous times already & i can confirm the authenticity and exceptional flavor of each plate. The perfectly crafted plates & presentation is excellent and you can definitely tell the service is as great as the food. Our waiter Brandon provided great service and was very attentive to our needs. He made sure we were taken care of while still allowing us to fully enjoy our meals. This is one of my new go to spots wether it be for lunch or dinner it’s a great atmosphere with a variety of options!

Food was great with very nice presentation, they serve authentic mexican dishes. I got the enmoladas & my mom got the huarache. We both enjoyed our food. However.. Did not have too much of a good first impression here as we waiting to be seated & no one really paid attention to us. Secondly, when we received the menus they were dirty.. not a good look. Id say if the place was a bit more clean it would’ve been a 5 for me. Also to mention this place is fairly small, be expected to sit right next to someone. They also charge for the chips & salsa. The food is what made our overall experience worth while.

Service was great, food has been great, atmosphere is good, and they have Coke Zero!!! Well priced and the portions are generous to share an app and a main and drinks between 2 hungry people who are trying not get rolled out of the restaurant. If the price increased or the portions reduced in size I would probably reduce my rating but overall I left satisfied.

Super cute, sophisticated spot. Drink menu is terrific. Took a special person here for their birthday and we had a blast. Mario tended to us for the evening and he brought the energy we needed for our birthday girl. The tacos de pulpo were splendid, light and packed with flavor. The flautas ahogadas, huarache and chicken tinga tostadas, perfect! My Charro Negro was perfectly refreshing and strong. Can't wait to come back and try other drinks/menu items. Muy recomendado!

Amazing hole in the wall spot near downtown, just down from Montrose. They have a small parking lot in this small strip of businesses. The food is DELISH! Seriously, some of the best Mexican food with great presentation. Try it all! Drinks are amazing too. Don't miss this place!

Google
They do a great job with ambiance/decor and the aesthetics of the food, but the food itself is very subpar. The service is lackluster as well. Came in on a pretty dead night but still had really slow service and the bathroom was disgusting. The food needs to be improved and have some more "oomph" to it to set it apart from the other hundreds of Mexican restaurants in Houston.

This was my second time visiting and the food was very good! I highly recommend the ribs! The enchiladas and shrimp ceviche were okay. The server was very attentive. We went for happy hour but they will use less alcohol. Comparing both times I went, during happy hour the bartender was using the smaller measure for alcohol unfortunately.

Beautiful wonderful authentic Mexican/Hispanic food. We got this recommendation from Juan our Airbnb Host and definitely a hidden Gem in Houston. Jose our Bartender gave us a taste of Carajillo which I will be back for 100%. Vibez are right and service was wonderful. We ordered the hibiscus margarita& Strawberry margarita Top tier definitely a must try!!!
