10 Great Restaurants For A Casual Date Night In Houston - Houston - The Infatuation

"Maderas, a romantic (and colorful) Mexican restaurant in Montrose, is a great spot for a third or thirtieth date. Located in a strip center, Maderas feels unpretentious, yet still stylish with tropical plants, massive floral murals, and plush booths. And the food is full of flavor, from plates of crispy golden flautas in a pool of salsa verde or blue corn tortillas lying beneath charred octopus tentacles. Plus being surrounded by what feels like hundreds of LED candles makes any last-minute date night feel special, even if you’re just wearing a T-shirt." - gianni greene, chelsea thomas

Maderas Kitchen & Cantina - Review - Montrose - Houston - The Infatuation

"Maderas makes you feel comfortable the minute you walk in. The dining room of Maderas Kitchen & Cantina, a Mexican restaurant in Montrose, which is lit by the flicker of what feels like hundreds of LED candles, could easily be a Bachelorette date night venue. Because despite being housed in a bland strip center, the interior is cozy and overflows with tropical plants and massive floral murals. The approachable menu casually blends staple Tex-Mex and Mexican dishes together. Sure, you can get chips and queso to start, but you can also snack on paprika-spice trompo de pulpo tacos or serrano-spiced flor de calabaza quesadillas. Cocktails spiked with habanero syrup, tamarindo, and aged tequila feel like a tailored suit with a colorful handkerchief: classic, yet playful, and designed to compliment the food. Even better, a meal at Maderas doesn’t cost an entire paycheck. In fact, you might feel like you’re getting away with something when the bill arrives, especially after splitting a couple toasted marshmallow carajillos and fluffy churros with rich leche quemada. photo credit: Liz Silva Service is fun and friendly, somehow balancing being attentive but not overbearing, as though you’re at a familiar neighborhood spot. More dressed up than most Tex-Mex restaurants, but considerably less expensive than other high-end Mexican restaurants, like Hugo’s, Maderas is unpretentious yet stylish. You could literally bring anyone here—a coworker, a grandmother, a third-tier friend—and have a fantastic time. And with plush booths perfect for snuggling, the romantic and colorful Maderas is a great spot for date night, whether it’s your third or thirtieth. photo credit: Liz Silva photo credit: Liz Silva photo credit: Liz Silva photo credit: Liz Silva Pause Unmute Food Rundown Elote We’re not sure what’s cuter about these elotes: the fact that they’re mini corn on the cobs, or that they arrive on comically thin and tall sticks, as though you’re at some kind of very posh carnival. Honestly, we remove the sticks and chomp away. The buttery, spicy corn tastes the same—delicious—regardless. photo credit: Liz Silva Quesadilla De Flor Calabazas The best part of this quesadilla is how unexpectedly spicy it is. Also the oregano-mint flavor from the epazote. Floral squash blossoms, serrano peppers, and Oaxacan cheese? Say less. photo credit: Liz Silva Trompo De Pulpo Yup, that’s right: each taco comes with an entire, succulent, spice-rubbed tentacle. No, you’re not dreaming, nor are you dining on the upper deck of a yacht. Maderas just knows how to make you feel special—and how to perfectly cook octopus. photo credit: Liz Silva Churros These churros are more soft donut than crispy fried pastry, but we don’t really care. Fluffy, pillowy, airy, sugary, light, moist—we could go on. Dunk those bad boys in buttery sweet leche quemada and sit a carajillo cocktail inbetween. Be decadent. photo credit: Liz Silva" - Chelsea Thomas

We stopped by for a late brunch on Sunday and luckily only had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. We had the pozole rojo, which was a bit spicy but delicious, and the flautas ahogadas that did not disappoint. The drinks were also very good! We had our freshly made churros to go. Our server Justin was friendly and attentive. The restaurant has beautiful, lively decor and is very clean. The music selection keeps the vibe going!

I went to Maderas Kitchen & Cantina for brunch at 11 a.m., and it was an experience worth talking about. The food was absolutely delicious...every plate came out looking like a piece of art, and the portions were generous enough to leave us satisfied without being over the top. The service was excellent from start to finish, attentive without feeling rushed, and the pricing was surprisingly moderate compared to many other Mexican restaurants in the area. Inside, the ambiance had this lively yet relaxed energy, fun, welcoming, and stylish in a way that makes you want to linger over another drink. If you’re looking for a brunch spot in Houston that blends flavor, presentation, and atmosphere, Maderas definitely delivers.

Just No... here's why. I am trying to be as objective as possible and it is rare when I rate a business negatively. We were in the city close to them and naturally it was suggested by Google Maps. I didn't read the reviews, I only based my decision on the pictures, which they've invested in... This is good. However, I skipped the reviews because we were hungry and we ended up going. They were able to sit us although we had no reservation. The menu had some tantalizing dishes and we chose the pastor octopus tacos, the Mexican corn (okay), flor de calabaza empanadas (not bad), Huarache and Mole Enchiladas. For drinks, a Jamaica, an horchate/espresso, and tamarind/pineapple cocktail if I recall correctly on the last one. Everything, and I do mean Everything was over seasoned, salty or too sweet (drinks), or over spicy. I can handle the heat, but for a sharable appetizer, to be super spicy... I've never. It would have been appreciated if the waitress had mentioned the spice level like she did when she mentioned the Birria Ramen and how is typically returned because of that same reason; over spicy and over seasoned. The empanadas were the only fairly decent thing had it not been for the heat. The guacamole or green salsa, was way too salty. Even my daughter, (7) mentioned the huarache meat was "weird" tasting and she didn't eat it, and she can be carnivore. I'm not one to return or make a complaint unless the service is bad, so we just paid our $150/with tip and, based on this experience, I would not recommend going. I would not recommend paying this high prices for a less than average experience, and I'm being subtle. It might've been a one time issue, but based on the Birria Ramen the waitress mentioned and the fact that everything we ordered was mediocre, this is my review.

Stopped in for a double date dinner, highly recommend getting a reservation as the seating is pretty limited. We tried a few plates and some appetizers. The appetizer was very generous portion and 3 pieces. We tried the flautas, pozole rojo, shrimp tacos and carne guisada. Everything was tasty but he highlight was the pozole everyone liked it the best. The drink were all delicious as well also we sampled a few and the favorite was the tamarindo drink. Please watch out for the curb as you turn into the parking lot if your coming off of bagby.

I have to say, this is one of the best Mexican restaurants I’ve been to in Houston! Everything tasted so authentic. I had the watermelon margarita, and it was absolutely delicious — the dessert was just as amazing. Our server was super kind and attentive, and we were seated right away. The atmosphere and music were perfect — it truly felt like taking a quick trip to Mexico. I’ll definitely be coming back!

My family and I have been loyal customers of Maderas, but our recent visit for a birthday celebration was a huge disappointment. With the exception of the chicken enmoladas and the beef fajitas, the food was mediocre. The service, however, was the most memorable part of the evening for all the wrong reasons. Our waitress was condescending and rude from the moment we sat down. Her attitude only changed when she brought the check, that's the only time when we saw her smile, seemingly hoping for a better tip. To make matters worse, she confused some of our orders and charged us for a second round of chips without bothering to mention the extra cost or the mandatory 20% tip on our bill, seemingly hoping we would not notice. It's disheartening that a special occasion was affected by such poor service. I hope management sees this and takes steps to address these issues.

Came here for a quick lunch before a meeting down in the meeting center. We were the first ones there that day and had the luck of the restaurant. Was able to take some photos with it empty. Which was nice. Greeted quickly, sat down fast, and ordered all within minutes. Everyone was friendly and service was prompt. The salsa and chips were very good! Got pastor tacos and loved the tortilla, the meat, and the salsa for them. Very good. Had a side of avocado that is usually expensive and not a lot of avocado but not here. You get a ton for the price. Priced nicely, beautiful restaurant, and good food. I'll come back.

Google
One of my favorite restaurants in Houston now! And I'll explain why Maderas is a must in downtown. Because they have plenty of Mexican vegetarian and "meat eaters" options on their menu, a mix between traditional and modern Mexican food which is delicious, two times that I have eaten there I have found enough parking (which is weird in downtown), the atmosphere and the service are genuine and authentic. Our waiter was Mario and he was super friendly and detailed with my family. Excellent service 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Yelp
I came here with some friends. I was very impressed with the quality of the food. First off, they had mole, which I have found quite difficult to find in Mexican restaurants in the area. Specifically, their mole negro was amazing, and I would order it again in a heartbeat. I had my first mole almost a decade ago, and it was so good I learned about the history of it. Since then, I have been on the search to find good mole in Houston. After two years of searching, I finally found the place. It looks simple, but the complex flavors were there. Service was great and attentive . Ambiance was great for any date night or just to hang out In addition, I usually skip the rice and bean since I often just focused on the entree, but this place's rice and beans were on a different level. I was quite impressed with their rice and beans that I found myself wanting another serving of it. It was that good. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a good Mexican place to eat because I will surely come back.

Yelp
This place is so nice!!! I stopped in with a friend before a play at the Ensemble Theater nearby- just for an appetizer and drink- I have to say, it was a GREAT choice! We got the Quesadillas de flor de Calabasa beef- you can choose chicken- these are BIG- my friend and I split the order and were full. Very tasty and the green salsa it comes with is 12 alarm HOT!! very good- reminded me of my time working in Juarez. I also ordered the Cafe de Olla- never had that before and I'm a FAN!! the whole experience was great, staff was awesome and my friend and I already said we will be back before the next play but for a full dinner. No question..... #2025BIGBACKAPPROVED

Yelp
Absolutely my new favorite Mexican restaurant Service, ambience, food, drink all excellent. Can't wait to get back to try more items. Best latest foodie find.

Yelp
If you are thinking about coming here, I would highly recommend it if you're in the area! The restaurant: nicely clean, nice vibes and friendly welcoming staff Chips and salsa: Fresh chips, came with multiple salsa options salsa is FRESH hibiscus freshca: very sweet and has a nice tint of tart Pozole: It was a mild smooth flavor the meat was tender and juicy Tortillas: HOMEMADE AND AMAZING Huevos Divorrceados: fresh flavor, comes with two different sauces, and a side of black refried beans. It is topped with a queso fresco and I am a salsa and spice person, but this dish honestly has so much flavor even without it. Overall great experience is on the more expensive side so if you have a little extra money to spend, I'd spend it here .

Yelp
I can say that the food in this Mexico inspired restaurant is very good, I was happy with the flavor and presentation of every dish. The restaurant is a little hidden but they do have indoor and outdoor seating for the good weather days. Their drinks are refreshing. Unfortunately we did not get good service, and I couldn't tell if it was the way the do business or just bad customer service from our server. She was not rude but she definitely did not had a good attitude, her lack of attention to our table and her cold service was very noticeable. I think bad servers can ruin a good experience and can determine if you want to go back to that establishment. Hopefully they improve their service soon.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised with this place. The ambience was very nice for conversation, the restaurant does get a little dark after the sun goes down, but helps the cozy ambience. The food was great and the sangria was awesome. They have a huge bar and although not a huge restaurant. The restaurant did not feel small. Overall, I felt like it was an awesome dinner and will probably go again! I had the Camarones Enchipotlados, which comes with shrimp, rice, creamy chipotle sauce, cilantro, jalapeño, radish on corn tortillas. It was delicious!! Service was good, a little slow but it was pretty busy on Friday night, so given them the benefit of the doubt.

Yelp
Cute little place we walked to from my friend's office. Yes there is parking but if they run out there's also neighborhood street parking. Gotta love Montrose for that. There's a small patio you can sit at but we opted for inside. My friend got the Jamaica and I got the limonada. Both pretty standard. She got the dinner portion of flautas and they were stuffed to the brim She was only able to eat two. I got the chilaquiles with fajita beef and ate all of it. For $8 to add fajita beef though it really wasn't a lot but it was still a tasty dish. Service was fast and prompt and our food came out hot which is a bonus in my book.

Yelp
I would definitely come here again! Food was fantastic and the vibes inside were also great. Our server was really nice and answered questions thoroughly. Will come again! It's a tad pricey so probably just for special occasions, though.

Yelp
Food: Got the enchiladas Rojas. Nice plating and tasty. Vibe: Went in the evening. More dimly lit creating a cozy vibe. Staff: Friendly and attentive staff! Parking: Parking spaces in front of the store.

Yelp
This is a Houston must. Interior is 10/10 a hit. Very classy. Outdoor seating as well. Service is absolutely top. Best in class. And the food. Let me just tell you. First they have drinks, and mocktail, for everyone. I had the Amante Picante and it delighted me not just with the presentation but also the flavor. They have a great selection of tequila and mezcal! We started with chips and salsa from the appetizer menu. Friends! I cannot tell you how happy I was to have a spicy salsa included. Usually they see my yt family and go too easy on us but they unapologetically included the full on heat and I was thrilled! Next came our entrees and everyone agreed: 5 stars! One companion ordered the fusion birria ramen and liked it well. My spouse ordered carnitas tacos and swooned on delicious. The other and I both ordered enmolada and just stop it! These were the deepest most richest mole and we were in love. Srsly these are show stoppers. I overate and had so much food regret. I did not leave room for dessert unfortunately. The rices and charro were even supreme. I could make a meal of them. Our one and only complaint- the portion sizes were too big. Legit. Check out or photos.
google avatar

Mike C.

Yelp
Ok I have to start by saying one part was 5 stars and one part was not great. I started with a Bloody Mary and will say it was probably the worst I've ever had. I wasn't excited about the restaurant at that point but I stayed and I'm glad I did! I ordered the Enmoladas that came with Mexican rice and charro beans. I'm a Mole fanatic and if you have seen my previous reviews you know I've said twice that "this is the best Mole". Well this is the third time and I doubt I will say it again. This Mole was beyond amazing. It not only hit all the levels of a great Mole but it had a spicy note I've never had in a Mole before. The chicken in the enchiladas was also very good. The restaurant is small and very nice. Great ambience and excellent service. I'm giving it 5 stars even though that Bloody Mary was not good at all because everything else was amazing! Oh and that bad Bloody Mary was $12.00! I recommend you dine at this great restaurant but be careful ordering a cocktail. Maybe the margaritas are better. I will return for sure!

Yelp
We went here for my boyfriend's sister's birthday dinner. We started off with the shrimp ceviche. It was very fresh and had a good amount of shrimp. The only thing is it's $17, and the bowl is very small, so I don't think it was worth it to get it. We also got 3 different salsas and they were SPICY. The green one was my favorite, but it definitely made me tear up (I have a low spice tolerance). I ordered the adobo de puerco and it was delicious! It comes with rice, beans and 3 tortillas. The adobo was very flavorful and wonderfully seasoned. However, there were some bones and tendons that I had to pick out. Don't underestimate the small bowl it comes in; it's densely filled. We also ordered the cuatro leches cake. There was a lot of coconut, but the cake itself was alright. We had a big group of 8. The service was good, and the food came out at a reasonable time. It's very dimly lit at night and gives a moody, intimate vibe.

Yelp
Trying a new spot in Midtown of Houston & I'm so glad I did!!! Maderas was an awesome place for date night, lunch, or celebrating a special occasion. We tried several dishes and none disappointed. Very authentic flavors, textures, and seasonings. The entrees and appetizers were Chicken Fajitas, Taquitos/flautas, Elote, & Chicken enchiladas. ALL were amazing!!! If you are feeling parched the adult beverages were slamming!!! The only thing that took some points off the score board was the parking; however, the service, the eats, and the venue as a whole made up for it. If you are visiting this part of Houston definitely stop by!!! I will be back... Enjoy!!!
google avatar

Wendy H.

Yelp
The only bad thing I have to say is that the parking lot kind of sucks to get in and out of if you have a car that's low to the ground. Beyond that I can't say enough great things. I came in with a group of 3, we had a reservation so we didn't have to wait at all. The restaurant is such a vibe, the decor, and the lighting are dark and moody. We loved it! We started off with a few margaritas and the chile con queso. The margaritas were great and so was the queso. It was spicy and flavorful. For entrees I ordered birria tacos and I loved them! I'd definitely recommend them. My friends ordered the enmoladas and barbacoa tacos and they really enjoyed their meals. For dessert we had their churros, and they were DELICIOUS. I'd go back just for the churros!! Honestly this is a great option for Mexican food. I would 1000% recommend it.

Laura C.

Yelp
We walked in a for some drinks after work around 5:30 pm on a Tuesday, and the restaurant was completely empty. We were greeted quickly and were sat immediately. We started off with drinks, and the cocktails are tasty and have a good amount of alcohol in it for the price. The waitstaff was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, however, I gave it three stars because the food was just lacking. The tortillas were amazing, fresh and hot, but everything else was typical Mexican food you can get at any restaurant for cheaper. Overall, I just don't feel like the price I paid was worth the food we got. We ended up paying 50 dollars for one entree and one cocktail. Overall, would come back for drinks, but maybe skip out on the food.
google avatar

Megan S.

Yelp
I was craving Mexican food so I looked at reviews and this place was rated pretty high. However, I was highly disappointed. First off, when I walked in you would've thought they saw a ghost. No one tried to seat me, they looked confused. I had to ask "do I just seat myself?" to get seated. Not off to a great start there. Second, the service by the server was EH. She was just going through the motions. Third, the food was just not good overall. I got the chips and salsa which was pretty good. For my main I got the Enmoladas and they were NOT good. The sauce was weird tasting. They look way better than they taste and I didn't even finish them. Only ate one whole one. I was very unsatisfied. Fourth, the drink was the only good thing and it tracks as the bartender was very nice. He personally brought my drink outside to me and was kind. I got the JAMAICA. I honestly would not come back here.

Yelp
The service was good and the food was chefs kiss ! I stumbled upon this place looking for somewhere to to check out and they did not disappoint. The atmosphere is nice and cute as well great for photos. Those flautas were so flavorful and delicious omg i will definitely be back

Yelp
I had my first Carajillo here and it was Amazinggg! The roasted bon bon def add a touch . The drink was a solid 10/10. I also tried the tacos de Caritas with the green chip salsa and radish--highly recommended! It's also very niceeee inside
google avatar

Yelp
Definitely 10/10. It's was Mexican upscale from the menu options to dining decor. Very cute for a date night or girls night. And plz do yourself a favor and get an order of the churros
google avatar

Zanarah K.

Yelp
Saturday night intimate dinner night. Service was up to parr, we both had the flautas. It was paired with rice and beans. I mean look at that pic. Parking was in the strip so need to pay or find a spot. Perfect for a date night for sure
google avatar

Allison L.

Yelp
Very glad we came here on a Saturday for brunch. Was looking for a brunch and/or Mexican place in midtown, montrose, or surrounding areas. I remember seeing Maderas and wanting to try those delicious-looking flautas. Made a reservation about 45 minutes in advance (walk in would have been fine, but we got a nice table) and headed over. Free and plenty of parking is always good! Superb service as well! Not too attentive to the point of interrupting our brunch more often than necessary, but just the right amount to have spectacular service! Salsas were tasty. The green habanera salsa was spicy!! The margarita menu is divine! Will be back!
google avatar

Emmily P.

Yelp
Like many of the reviews already written the good portions are insanely huge !!! We shared a plate of flautas based on the reviews and we still could not finish it all . I felt the chicken inside the flautas was just ok but with all the added toppings that gave it much more flavor . We also ordered the salsa and chips for the table , the green was my favorite but it is spicy which I loved . My friend had to mix hers with one of the more mild salsas. We had the happy hour $5 margarita and added hibiscus . I also had a Carajillo which was incredible . We also split the churros for desert which was another very large portion . Our sever Mario was incredible and very attentive and today was his birthday ! Give that man a raise !!! This is a super cute place . I'd definitely visit again but would also split something again lol . The portions are just too big . The parking was minimal but I was able to find parking in the lot.

Yelp
We came on Sunday for brunch/lunch. It's a rather small restaurant with limited seating so it's best to make a reservation. The good: We all enjoyed our food. The enchiladas rojas were amazing!! The restaurant is decorated in a stylish modern manner. Parking lot was large. Areas for improvement: Our waiter could not give my friend a recommendation on two dishes she asked about. Also they were completely out of aguas frescas - on weekend? What? In addition, they will ask you to not linger at the end of your meal if there is a wait for the table after you - if the restaurant is full, I understand - but there were numerous empty tables by the time we were done, so this was odd. I should probably give 3/5 stars but the enchiladas were sooo good they can have 4. My friend had some issues driving to the restaurant using Google Map. Apparently the recently renovation of this particular strip complex may have changes some entrance/exits to the parking lot. Be aware.

Yelp
Decided to stop by for dinner and drinks and was pleasantly surprised. I made a reservation only because it was a Saturday but I saw people also walking in and getting seated right away. We started off with drinks that were delicious, lots of options to choose from. The appetizer of chips and guac was so good, you could tell it was freshly prepared. My friend and I both tried different variations of tacos for our main course that were great, very flavorful with lots of spice. We ended the night with dessert of churros and tree leches cake. Everything was great, the service was as expected for a busy weekend and the inside was very moody and cozy feeling.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! Roger was amazing, the food AB's drinks were amazing and the ambiance was perfect. I went for Happy hour and dessert and left with friends. I will be back

Yelp
Came here for lunch on a Friday at 11:30 and it was not busy. We got the queso as an app it was yummy but wish it came with more chips, I got the ceviche as my main and it was fresh and delicious and perfect I would definitely eat it many times again! My coworkers all got the flautas and seemed to enjoy them! The restaurant itself was small but very cute , chic, and clean!

Tomas L.

Yelp
Food- Appetizer Calabaza quesadillas. Main course Birria tacos, and Asado de puerco with beans and rice. Last but not least least Capirotada. Excellent all the way around! Service- Excellent Ambiance- Really nice. I like the little lights at the table. Definitely coming back!

Yelp
We're visiting Houston and decided to go here as it had good reviews and we were staying close by. The place is super swanky and nice inside. We ordered chips and salsa and the waitress we had originally told us be careful with the green salsa. Well it wasn't that hot and we wiped it out first. We also ordered Carne asada tacos (3 out of 5 - dry), barbacoa tacos (4 out of 5) super wet, and carnitas (4 out of 5- spicy). We also ordered enchiladas and they were not good 1 out of 5 (zero flavor). I would go back but order stuff other than the enchiladas and Carne asada. The waitress also bailed on us after taking our order and we were without drinks for 30 minutes before we got a new random waiter because our waitress was now bartending.

Andrea C.

Yelp
It is so good every time! We've been coming here for the past 2 years and have had a pleasant visit each time. We have tried chilaquiles, tacos, sopa azteca, and other appetizers along with some of their drinks. The staff has always been very polite. Seating inside is a bit in the smaller side, but they have outdoor seating too. I always let everyone know about this place.
google avatar

Betsy Arianna C.

Yelp
The few times I've been they've had great service, I loved their Chilaquiles and Enmoladas. I will be celebrating my Father's birthday here next week! Cant wait to go back!

Denis P.

Yelp
A fantastic blend of Mexican brunch and breakfast favorites! The churros are absolutely amazing -- OMG! The carajillo and torta ahogada are also must-tries. Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Where has this amazing little spot been?! Amazing service, tasty food and a beautiful space in the heart of Houston! We had the beef and chicken fajitas which was a healthy portion and packed full of onions and peppers sizzling at the table. And, the tortillas were some of the best I've ever had in Texas. This is def going on repeat for me.

Yelp
Second time visiting Maderas & I honestly need to return more frequently! Walked in & was greeted with a smile! Justin was my server and he was so kind, welcoming, and very attentive! I ordered the hibiscus margarita which was delicious and super cute! Usually, I order an appetizer, entree, and dessert anytime I go out to eat (don't judge) lol but I wanted to try the flauntas & I knew they were going to be more than enough! They were a little spicy but not overbearing! The presentation was immaculate! The restaurant was clean and I love the minimalistic atmosphere! Thank you again Justin for the great service you provided!

Yelp
Loved the ambiance. Great for girls night out or date night. I ordered the fresa drink which was delicious but the 2nd serving was more watered down and didn't have much of a strawberry flavor. I ate the flautas plate which comes with 6 flautas! It was very good and big enough plate to split with someone. The service was great and person waiting on us was very nice and attentive. The place is small. I would recommend making a reservation. I plan on coming again.

Yelp
Not sure if they buy low quality food or they just really don't know how to cook. Food is edible but not good at all. There's so many options in text mix for Houston and sorry but the dollar tacos at the grocery store or 1000% better. Drinks tasted like pre mix as well like they are using some low quality mixers or something. I would never recommend.

Yelp
Food is pretty damn good here! I recommend the flautas and pozole (for pozole lovers, their broth is already spicy and has a really good flavor). Their Café de Olla is also great! Ceviche is solid too. Service was good overall, and every time we've been there has been in the evening with no wait at all. Ambiance was nice too.

Yelp
I found this place on Yelp- my go to, and it had good reviews. It definitely lived up to the hype! Everything was delicious and tasted freshly made with quality ingredients. The sauces were full of flavor and really complimented the meal. I tried the elote side - so many flavor layers- absolutely delicious. I also ordered the flautas and loved the salsa verde. Service was excellent and it's such a charming and intimate place.

Yelp
Love the ambiance, flavors of the food and the staff. Always a great experience!!! Recommend the skinny margarita or for a unique flavor get the spicy margarita.

Yelp
Wow..!!! A great response and the owner shouldn't be affected by servers that don't care about hospitality. Like I said, this establishment deserves 5 stars. I visited on Sunday and, despite being in a rush, the server made my experience exceptional. The food was amazing, which brought me back on Monday with company. Unfortunately, the experience was very different this time. We arrived at 9:20 PM and it took a while to be served and even get menus. The server seemed inattentive, and the service overall was disappointing. When our food arrived, the server mentioned that the kitchen would close in 10 minutes (at 9:35 PM), even though the listed closing time was 10 PM. To make matters worse, at 10:12 PM, they turned on the lights, making us feel rushed and unwelcomed, as if we were being kicked out. This ruined our chance to enjoy dessert and ended the experience on a sour note. The food, vibe, and atmosphere are great, but poor service like this drives people away. I hope the owner addresses these issues and ensures staff are committed to providing excellent hospitality.

Yelp
Cute spot with a nice bar feel! Food was really well prepared, and very fairly priced. Cocktails were great, sweet for us but still very good. We got the Jamaica and the rum drink with juice. The best red sauce I have ever had came on the huevos divorciados. The black beans also topped my list. Salsa verde that came with the flautas was killer. Every dish we got was moderately hot to hot if we are talking spice. We will return!

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday night as a walk in around 9:30pm. Was able to get a table with no wait but did realize I was lucky as there were no other available tables. I not give people that walked in after me take a seat at the bar and then carry their food to tables that became available. The waiter was attentive, but not personable. He wasn't rude but also not friendly. I guess I would say he was just doing the job. I started with the classic margarita which was very strong and overpowering with tequila. Also got the chips and guacamole as an appetizer. This guac was delicious and a generous portion! We ended up getting the carnitas tacos and Birra tacos with a side of a Elotes. The birra tacos definitely stole the show. The meat was very tender and packed with flavor. The carnitas tacos were just okay. The meat didn't taste like it was seasoned and it was also very dry. The Elotes were a disappointment as it was covered with tajin and not real Mexican spices. When we were finishing our meal, the waited came by five different times to ask if we were done. At this point we just felt rushed. I checked the door area to see if anyone was waiting for a table and there wasn't. There were also two other tables open at this point. We took the hit and left.

Yelp
In my opinion this is the best Tex/Mex restaurant in Houston. Food are excellent and service is top notch ! I went there 2 times and feel at home with the good service, the chips with the guacamole are home made there as they are very fresh you can feel it. I love my camarones a la mexicana, it was simply delicious ! I recommend highly this restaurant if you want to eat Tex/Mex food !

Yelp
A disappointing experience. The music was so loud that we couldn't carry on a conversation at our table. The food was lackluster. The beef fajitas were stringy and lacking flavor. The peppers and onions were also bland. The fajitas came with three tiny, overcooked tortillas, leaving most of the contents to be eaten sans tortilla. They don't even provide complementary chips and salsa (it's a $4 appetizer on the menu). The only reason I'm rating it two stars instead of one is because my wife did like the taste of the pork in her carnitas.

Yelp
This joint is as tight as onion skin, and it ain't cheap. But the food and presentation are divine. Though this joint is located in one of the largest cities in the Western Hemisphere -- both geographically and otherwise -- it has the space and feel of Manhattan restaurant. Maybe 12-15 tables inside with a few more on the sidewalk. It's no wonder reservations are suggested! Still, despite that you'll hear your neighbor talking up the latest Apple computer to his date, this place is definitely a must-try. First, the decor and ambiance of this joint are clutch. If I weren't honest, I would've pocketed the etched water glasses. It's dark here ... hence the mediocre photos. Servers here wear black trousers and white button-down shirts. Our server was polite, quick and to the point. The food here is all that. Puerco en Adobo is melting. Nicely spiced for most taste buds. Wonderful. Enmoladas are presented beautifully. The mole here is easy -- not spicy, but bold. -- This joint presents three salsas with its chips (not complimentary) and all three are marvelous. I have a rule about salsas being served cold. This place breaks that rule, but I didn't mind at all. The elote appetizer is nicely flavored, but it honestly sat in the steamer for way too long. Corn should be crisp. Mine was chewy. The huarache appetizer was wonderful, with a variety of flavors and consistencies. Finally, though I drank Modelo, the rest of my party sampled the wonderful drink menu here -- which is probably the restaurant's calling card. Not only is the menu diverse, everything is handcrafted, beautifully presented and delicious. This place gets my vote.

Yelp
Do yourself a favor and check this place out! Came on a Friday after work and made last minute reservations, recommend doing so for places when available so your experience can be enjoyable. The ambiance is relaxed and trendy, almost Tulum vibes. Seating is very compact, we could hear the table next to us regularly and would get bit loud. Hopefully place does well so they can become a standalone. Would be much more enjoyable if it weren't on a shopping strip, as parking is somewhat limited along with the compact seating. I Ubered from downtown. The service was efficient, quick and friendly until we asked to split the check between two people, waiter seemed bothered. But overall was well attended to during our visit. Reason for the one star removal was the hesitance to split a check and the limited seating and table, for two we ordered a couple of items and wasn't space to hold everything. The drinks, upon looking at their menu, decided we'd definitely be returning as there are so many options & offerings. And each drink we tried appeased our taste buds and surely will do the same for you whatever flavor you like, they have. I started with El Cesar (pictured) not many places offer Italicus Bergamotto in their drinks so I wanted to taste how they paired it with tequila. & it did not disappoint. Once the drink settled for a bit the flavors really came through. (Bergamotto is a citrus, floral and herbal tasting liqueur). After finishing that ordered the Piña tamarindo. It is brought with its own presentation, (see photo with torch) It's almost like a pina colada but not overly sweet nor too creamy. You taste the tamarind enough to where it's not overpowering. The food, we ordered the guacamole with chips (they're not complimentary). The guac tasted fresh and had its flavor (just needed a bit more salt) the chips it came with thankfully were crunchy and not soggy or stale as some places tend to give even when you pay for them. The elote, came as an order of 4. It was sweet, juicy and flavorful. Could've just ate that and been full. It was well prepared with tajin, butter, crema & lime juice. Will order again. We ordered the tacos (comes as order of 3 regular decent sized corn tortillas, not tiny tortillas like other restaurants), I got the carne asada & my friend got pollo asado. They were served onions, cilantro, on corn tortillas with radish, jalapeño and lemon and salsa on the side. Each bite of those taco was flavorfully delicious! Only thing was the tacos were bit cold/warm when we got them at the table. Other than that enjoyed them. Already looking forward to our next visit to try more drinks and food. & hope for the success of the place as everyone was friendly and they know what they're doing just a matter of tweaking certain things to improve on. They also have brunch, lunch and happy hour from 2-6pm Monday-Thursday and outside seating. But it's hot in Texas during summer so inside we sit. It doesn't get too cold inside but recommend a cardigan if you get cold easily.

Yelp
I went here with my friend last night and we had a great time! This place is so cute and has a nice dark ambiance. Our waiter was very attentive and would come by and see if we were okay throughout the night. We started off with the Totopos Con Salsa, all three salsas were absolutely phenomenal! We also both got the Hibiscus (Jamaica) Margarita which were absolutely beautiful and tasted delicious. We split Chicken Fajitas which were seasoned so well and came with grilled onions and peppers. We finished off our meal with the Tres Leches! We had a great experience overall, I'll definitely be back in the future
