A butcher that sells biltong, a salted dried meat. Afrikaner paraphernalia hangs in the shop, which bothered Tony. For restaurant, you can go to the meat counter and order cuts of meat with "monkey gland sauce" on the side (barbecue sauce).

What an amazing experience! It’s like a friendly butcher shop inside a museum. FNB, Capitec, and ABSA ATMs are on-site. This is a walk down memory lane, and a very pleasant one at that. If you haven’t been here yet, you definitely should. Plus, there’s plenty of free parking outside. Grab a sausage roll pie, you have to try one. One of the best pies I've ever had.

Stepping into this place feels like wandering into a living museum, where history hums in the walls and the air is rich with charm. The butcher shop nestles inside like a hidden treasure, its counters gleaming with old-world character. Friendly smiles greet you at every turn, and the atmosphere carries a gentle magic that makes each visit feel like a story waiting to unfold. Outside, convenience meets nostalgia with generous free parking and ATMs from FNB, Capitec, and ABSA standing by like quiet companions. It’s more than shopping—it’s an outing wrapped in warmth and wonder, a small journey back in time where every detail invites you to linger a little longer and savor the delight of the day

Interesting butchery..as a matter of fact, it seemed more like a museum than a butchery. It was late in the afternoon so they had limited options/stock, but prices were good. They only accept cash, but they have a good choice of ATMs to choose from.

The very unique south African butchery is for those people who are proud to be south African.. it is rich in artifacts of the history of SA and anyone is welcome..there is a key cut next to it on the same premises and a artificial grass shop as well..it is well worth the visit..try out the big pink viannas they are awesome...the steaks..tops and wors is amazing..real value for money with the freshly baked pies daily and delicious packs of biscuits and tea time treats...and to walk thru all those yesteryear golden oldies brings back a lot of great memories..like the hard fall I had when the front wheel of my 3 speed topper fell out..the drive in theatre and how we used to make a phone call that will feel like ages compared to now..

Maders turn purchasing meat into an experience. The best advise I can give: visit Maders yourself. The meat pastries with half a liter of fresh milk is a real treat. Huge selection of risks and biscuits to add to the good quality meat. I confidently recommend Maders. Dannie Oom Tom.

It’s always such a nice experience to visit Maders Slaghuis. They only take cash, but it’s no problem because there are ATMs right there. Their pies are absolutely amazing! They also have plenty of staff, so even when it gets busy, you’re helped very quickly. All the meat looks fresh and there’s a great variety to choose from. I also love their droëwors — it’s really delicious. Inside the shop there’s a big collection of miniature cars, old sewing machines and other vintage items, which gives the place a unique feel (you just can’t touch them). Definitely a must-stop if you’re looking for fresh meat, a tasty Maders pie, or just a friendly local butchery experience. The owner is also there often and very hands-on.

I don't know how to accurately explain my passion for their sausage roll pies, but I'll try. When 6 months pregnancy cravings hit, and all I want is a Maders pie, with their perfectly seasoned meat and buttery soft flaky pastry, no other pie on earth can fill it's shoes. I recently had exactly such a craving, and within minutes I had convinced my husband. We got in the car with all the kids and drove from Roodepoort to Maders so that we can quickly grab a box of pies before they close. Other bonus points include the friendly staff, highest quality butchery section and lovely assortment of rusks, biscuits, and other bakery products available - that's great too. But their pies? They make you drive over an hour each way just to get in the building before they close. I make a point of stopping at Maders every single time I'm even remotely close to Mayville. The aroma from the bakery when you enter the building is enough to drive you there. So in a nutshell, get in your car and go. Now. Run.
