Best Food Trucks in Nashville, Tennessee | Eater Nashville

"This family-owned black-and-yellow truck is known for real-deal Somali chai and sambusas, bringing beef-, chicken-, or cheese-filled pastries to the streets alongside warm cups of chai that can be spiked with coffee or sweetened with vanilla; the business also has a brick-and-mortar spot on Murfreesboro Pike." - Kellie Walton

Google
I visited Madina Restaurant today and was really disappointed. The rice and meat dish I ordered had something unexpected mixed in it, which completely ruined my appetite. The presentation and cleanliness need serious improvement. Definitely not worth the visit. And they charge me the food too

Super friendly. Great food. Had the goat broth soup and a mix of chicken and beef with both rice and spaghetti. I’ll definitely return.

This place is really wonderful. I dined with 3 companions and all 4 of our dishes were excellent. I ordered the KK with chicken, my husband ordered KK with steak, my friend ordered chapattis with beef sugar, and my 4th friend couldn't decide so our server said he'd pick for her. Our meals started with an aromatic brothy soup, followed by Somali coffee which is fragrant with cardamom, an orange drink, fresh bananas, and then finished off with a delightful mango pudding mixed with fruit. My friend's surprise meal came with 2 large and super puffy breads that were delicious with the hot sauce that was on the table. Every meal was bursting with flavor and was enough to feed 2-3 people. $18 per person. And when we were paying, our server bypassed the tip screen, but we just tipped him with cash. He was very attentive and friendly. We would definitely dine here again and highly recommend it to everyone we know.

First time eating Somali food, it was different in a good way. I ordered the "KK with Chicken Steak". The meal started off with a small cup of soup, which was very savory, made from goat meat drippings, had a vegetable (leek?) of some sort, and seasoned with what I guess to be oregano and curry. Rich, savory and satisfying. The KK with Chicken Steak was tasty... seasoned with curry, onion and a little green pepper. I was given two types of hot sauce, both had a moderate amount of heat with a citrusy edge. The hotter of the two added a depth to the KK that I didn't expect. The portions are large, almost enough for two people. The food is fresh, so don't expect to get in and out in 30 minutes. I will definitely go back, there were a few meals on the menu that I want to try. If you're in the area and want to try something different, I recommend you give Madina a try.

I am glad you chose to see why I gave this place 3 stars. I am not familiar with Somalian or East African, food, culture and people. Glad I had the unique opportunity to be in the USA and still experience samples of other cultures. Quick reminder before you interact with other cultures foe. Practice patience. This place confuses me. For so many reasons. It’s hard to find. Parking lot is a disaster and when you try to get in line it’s confusing because the menu is confusing and there are people everywhere. I was so confused. When you finally get to the menu. Nothing looks familiar. I didnt know what I did or did not like so it made it difficult to make a decison. I used everything I know to make the best guess based off what I thought I liked and what kind of sounds familiar. Scary but okay. Noone is sure about everything. I am not sure about anything anymore. Based off of a picture with no prices. It’s hard to compare the value of each. The person at the register will only say the price of the dish you ask but wont tell you what the cheepest dish is…Weird. The wraps on the bottom right are easy comfortable dishes for under $10 but don’t capture the essence of why you come to a place like this. I would try anything you can dip that beautiful bread into. If your willing to travel 1,000s of miles to experience culture. A quick trip in your backyard is fine. To make it simple. If your curious to try some delicious food outside of your comfort. The food here is really good and they have some special secret green sauce. 3 stars, it’s not for everyone. Like most things.

Google
Interesting food to say the least. I think eating there would be better but take out was a little messy. The boat was great but the bones were a trial. The chicken was great as well. Overall I would say stop in and eat there. It will be a better experience.

Yelp
The food is AMAZING! I have only had it to go after someone bought it in, so I can only rate the food. The Goat, chicken and sides were delicious. I truly cannot wait to go and experience the ambiance and service for myself.

Yelp
I had heard about this place by word of mouth. Its tucked away a little off the main road. If you see "The Horn" that is the parking lot you need to go to to park for here. It is Somali cuisine. Most of the dishes are a meat with either pasta or rice. I got the Goat with rice. They give you a pitcher of what seems like orange kool aid (sorry no disrespect). I can't really have sweets so I asked for a bottle of water. The staff members were friendly and accommodating. There is a sink on the outside of the men's room and I know in places like Afghanistan, they have these sinks to wash your hands because you eat with your hands - it is sunna to eat with your hands (spoons are also provided). They also have a little sectioned off area for people to pray in a similar way that places like House of Kebab have a prayer room. Everything is Halal and there seemed to be a fair amount of people in there. The rice was very flavorful. It reminded me of the rice at Al Rasoul or Osh. It had some raisin and red onion - the flavor combination was very delicious. The goat was as expected. The flavor was good, be wary of small bones. The cost may seem higher than expected but it was a LOT of food. I ate off it for the next several days. Also if you want to support a locally owned Somali business I recommend it.

Yelp
This is the hidden gem of Nashville. A hole-in-wall vibe, authentic Somalian restaurant. Amazing portion size, awesome service. Got the beef and spaghetti plate. Initially was confused by the combination of beef strips and spaghetti but it went together so well! Awesome flavor, gently but deliciously flavored. Felt full afterwards but not heavy or uncomfortably stuffed. They also gave us complementary soup and orange juice, both amazing. The soup had a sort of curry flavor with veggies. Absolutely loved this place!!!

Yelp
Yo this place is the BOMB. Fast service, authentic Somali food, big portions, easy parking, good prices. You have to come early or the goat sells out. I feel like I'm joining a family dinner when I come here. Stop eating your bland Nashville American food and come here!!

Yelp
Awesome Somali food and excellent service...it seems it is a woman owned business. We had the Somali chapati and the rice with goat. The spiced tea with a smile .... Country music and East Africa perfectly matched!

Yelp
Just delicious! The soup, the dishes we ordered, the mango smoothie, and the added pitcher of orange juice all made for a delightful lunch.

Yelp
This is just some good home cooking. Someone's grandma is probably making the food. I got the goat with the rice. Delicious.

Yelp
MashaAllah!!! This place is seriously phenomenal. I got their halib Ari (prob spelling it wrong) and specifically asked for their soup because I was feeling sick. They also gave me a banana. And it was affordable yall !! for the amount you get it's really good and the meat is tender delicious , and most importantly halal!! My Muslim folks who struggle to find halal meat this place is genuinely a great option. Their soup also hits the spot. Not sure what it is but I think it's a type of broth with vegetable broth mixed in as well. Super kind people, just have to deal a bit with the language barrier. Highly highly recommend and I will be coming back inshaAllah

Yelp
I am not your common "African Food" seeker, since obviously... I am an American white guy haha, so let that set the stage for the commentary. However, I have eaten here many times, and as I am not used to the tastes of the food, each time I come, my friends and I leave happy we came. Now when we come, it is because we are feeling like going here. It is great food. It is a different vibe both in decor, clientele, and spices used in the food, beyond what I have ever been used to. But, everyone is very nice, the staff is professional, and I am growing to like it more and more each time I come. It is similar in ways to mediterranean style food, but you can tell the spices, presentation, the garnishes and choices in the dishes are just different. I like it a lot. I especially like the raisins and other garnishes on the rice, although I know a few people that really don't like raisins. Goat soup is new for me, and it is great! I have had tilapia, beef, chicken, salmon, all prepared in ways that taste unique to me. I love the rice, kinda mediterranean style, but again unique to this style of food. I will definitely come back many times! Each time I plan on trying something different and expanding my experience with these new ways of cooking! If you are feeling adventurous, take a departure from the common fare, or "meat and 3" places, and come and have something new for lunch. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Food is bomb! Like others have stated both inside & outside are pretty understated. Clearly a family run business. We stared at the pictures for a bit before deciding but the young lady waited patiently and even confirmed we could make our own combo. Then a gentleman served us a pitcher of some Tampico orange drink and two styrofoam cups (we didn't order) right before our food came. The only downside is there are no prices displayed. Maybe they were in the printed menu, but none on the sign above the register. But I'm pleased with the food as it was all delicious.

Yelp
Delicious. Flavorful. Friendly family restaurant. Portions are generous and prices are very reasonable. The rice has very nice flavors. Take the family. Complimentary bread was oh so good!

Yelp
Favorite go to restaurant. Big servings, fresh simple food. Good people. If you dine in you will get a delicious cumin soup, pitcher of tang and a banana. Love their rice pillof with pickled onions and raisins. Green sauce is uniquely spicy. Everything is super yummy.

Yelp
Give them a visit! Just up the road from the Lane Motor Museum so a fun and filling trip out of Downtown. They helped me pick a good meal, I had the goat with rice. It came with a wonderful soup and a pitcher of, well I'm not sure...but it was good!

Ray R.

Yelp
In August 2021, I was visiting Nashville and went to the Lane Motor Museum (very fun). I stumbled into Madina restaurant and had a truly exceptional meal. I didn't remember the name but finally found it again through a Google search. Food was truly exceptional - all sorts of interesting tastes that complement each other wonderfully and truly opened up my taste buds to magnificent new experiences. Prices were very reasonable and the portions were large. Everyone was quite helpful and nice. I tried to explain to my daughter who is going to college in Nashville. We'll be travelling there shortly and I will take her there to enjoy a wonderful meal. I'm sure she'll be bringing a bunch of her college friends there to enjoy such delicious food with portions and budget friendly prices any college student would appreciate. I think I had coffee at the Horn which is close by which is also excellent.

Yelp
Need to be more clean , tang juice was haliriose but not to be served with food!! Thanks

Yelp
Everything is fresh, they just need to add extra sauce to spaghetti sometimes it could be bit dry especially if you can't finish it and would like to save it for later and reheat it. So be generous with that sauce baby!!

Yelp
Highly recommend! The Madina Restaurant in Nashville has the most delicious food served by the nicest people! The rice dish with chicken and beef was so yummy. I thought it couldn't get any better, and then I tried the KK with chicken, which was like soft noodles in a delicate sauce that melts in your mouth. For the fantastic dishes and generous portions, I thought it would cost much more. I'm excited to share this wonderful place with everyone I know. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Good somali food, friendly staff and they are the best somali restaurant. You should try kk which is African traditional flatbread that is chapped and boiled with goat soup and they serve it with whatever meat you prefer
