Update: So, the owner contacted me about my review and my concerns. She has been extremely interested in addressing the situation that led to a lesser review. I have to say, her care and concern for the business is really nice, and really refreshing. My friend and I stopped in and had a very nice talk with her, had a nice coffee and a couple nice tasting pastries.
I liked this place the first time I went. I liked it this most recent time I went. And, it seems that customer services issues have been addressed and the staff was extremely pleasant and welcoming to every person coming through the door. It's clear that ownership really cares about the success of the business, the quality of the product, and a fun experience for customers. That changes everything for me.
I'll be back, and I think I can certainly recommend Madrona Hill Cafe to others now.
BTW - It's a great place to stop on a bike ride! It's right off of Ainsworth, a bike street, right near Greeley wrapping around the bluff and overlooking Portland downtown. The Max isn't far, in case you want to bike one way and ride back the other. There are bike racks surrounding the front of it, and outdoor seating. I was riding my bike the first time I went there, and riding the last time I went there.
