"These bagels are only available Saturdays and Sundays—and they sell out almost as soon as the Gables bakery opens. We understand why. Madruga’s bagels are springy and delicious, toasted or untoasted. The bagels come in two flavors: asiago or seeded. Here’s the trick. Order them online the previous day (after 5pm), and you can pick it up with zero wait. Just ask them to slice it for you if you want to eat there because they come whole (with a side of cream cheese or butter for 50 cents)." - ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo
"If you are in Coral Gables and in the mood for bread in any form, get in the car and drive to Madruga Bakery. There isn’t necessarily a specialty here. It’s one of those places that just does everything deliciously, and you should leave with at least three things you didn’t plan on ordering. Those things could include a guava and cheese danish, ham and cheese croissant, or a couple of onion poppy seed rolls." - ryan pfeffer, mariana trabanino, virginia otazo
"Anything that involves a form of bread is going to be good here and the egg sandwich is no exception. It has bacon, sautéed greens, cheddar, egg, and herb aioli. It all comes on their excellent onion poppy roll and everything is nice and bound together by melted cheddar. It’s beautiful to look at, and even more fun to eat." - ryan pfeffer

"Many differences in the croissants on this guide are cosmetic—some are larger than others, some are different shades of ochre, some are going to flake all over your car seat just a bit more. However, Madruga’s croissant stands out from the others because of their interiors. The webbing is much smaller and closer together, suggesting that what you’re about to bite into might be tight and dry. But, surprise: they are as soft as the ears of your neighbor’s new puppy, Horace, and deceptively light too, with a toasty bite." - charlie crespo, ryan pfeffer, mariana trabanino
