"This restaurant, which occupies the premises of the now defunct Freixa Tradició and now featuring a designer interior, brings together the knowledge and dreams of three friends (hence the name MAE, which can be translated as ‘companion’ in the Costa Rican dialect): Mariella Rodríguez (Costa Rica, in charge of management) and chefs Diego Mondragón (Colombia) and Germán Espinosa (Spain). The whole proposal is built on a concept, Sincretismo, which according to the RAE (Royal Spanish Academy, the official institution responsible for overseeing the Spanish language) is the ‘combination of different theories, attitudes or opinions’. It is surprising to see that they combine products from very different origins, which leads us to see how Galician clams or the legendary tarta de Santiago work with, for example, Latin American chilli peppers and tepache. The menu is rounded out with two good tasting menus (MAE and Gran MAE), where we found a wonderful course called Pan (80-year-old sourdough, inherited from Freixa) and fantastic dishes, such as their molluscs, tomato and aji amarillo." - Michelin Inspector

Very good Michelin restaurant. The place is cozy and spacious which give you enough space to not feel close to your neighbor table. The menu Mae, was very good, full of textures and flavors. Everything went smooth, from entrance to exit. The menu is well designed. As a French, I loved the bread ! The brioche and the normal bread ! Amazing texture, taste and crunch for the bread. The brioche was very soft and tasty. The sweet side, with dessert was the best part for me, as a sweet tooth. The pastry chef was very kind and it was a pleasure to speak with her about her work. The staff was kind and professional, with excellent knowledge. I really recommend this place for a nice culinary journey.

I recently dined at this restaurant and overall, I enjoyed the food. However, I was less impressed with the international wine pairing; it just didn’t match the dishes for me. I’m giving it 4 stars because there were some details that fell short of what I expected from such a high end place. For instance, my table got dirty from some sauce right at the beginning of the meal, and it was never cleaned up throughout the evening. I kept hoping they would take care of it as each new plate arrived, but that didn’t happen Additionally, I had to wait a good 30 minutes just to place my order after sitting down. It felt a bit off... I think with a bit of attention to detail, it could have been a perfect experience.

Very inventive menu, fusing Catalan and Latin American flavors and ingredients. Execution is excellent. Large selection of creative seafood appetizers highlights the brilliant fish and shellfish available in Barcelona. Service is warm and we were treated delightfully as English speakers. The space is simple and clean. Having a line cook execute the assembly of the numerous amuse bouche in the dining room was a clever touch. Good, well priced wine list complements the menu well.

Mae is a restaurant for a special occasion, it’s quiet with simple interior which perfectly lets the food shine! Each bite is executed and served with respect, you are surprised at each course with little known ingredients and how they are combined with something already familiar. From starters through bread and mains to petit fours there was not a single dish that didn’t leave us speechless! The service is delightful and the head chefs also work side by side them, so don’t be surprised when the chef who makes your plate then comes to you and delicately explains it. I would definitely recommend going for a tasting menu as it lets you try more items from the menu. Worth a visit! Thank you for the experience!

As soon as I heard that the restaurant received a Michelin star last year, I was lucky enough to make a reservation, and it turned out to be an incredibly happy experience! The most impressive part for me was the dessert—especially the mint crumble—it was absolutely mind-blowing! I truly admire and love this place, and I can’t wait to visit again. I’m so excited to see what new, innovative dishes they’ll surprise us with next time!

Friendly and knowledgeable service perfectly matches the inventive and delicious tasting menu. The colours, shapes and textures all add to the flavours and are well matched by the wines. We had the large tasting menu because it seemed a shame not to! Everything on it was delicious. The portions are perfectly proportioned for such a long menu. Not sure I can see anyone leaving here hungry, quite the opposite!

We opted for Mae tasting menu which provedbto be more than enough. The start was very good but some of the later dishes (e.g. leeks and seabass) could easily be cut out from the menu. After the first bottle the restaurant discovered that they had run out of Corpinnat which seemed rather strange for a Michelin star place in Barcelona. It would be useful to leave a menu at at a table because the dishes tend to be fairly complicated and the waiters speak English with heavy accent (as is common other fine dining restaurants in Catalonia) which really can you leave confused sometimes what on Earth are you even eating.
