Magdalena Bar

As Austin locals, we love to dine at the new Hotel Magdalena's Bar, located just a few steps above Summer House, the hotel's full-service restaurant. The bar offers a limited menu but plenty of options -- including the tasty 'Smash Burger' and hand-cut fries, . The cocktail list offers refreshing options for the Texas heat, which is a must. The bar staff helped make our visit a lot of fun and we love the atmosphere and landscape.

Vibes and music are perfect for a cocktail, and right by the pool. The sign says “cocktails upstairs, all are welcome” yet the grumpy bartender lady with brown hair was rather off-putting, asking if we had pool passes and seemed upset she when we ordered cocktails. There was no line, no other patrons…just weird service so we didn’t order more drinks/food.

Booked a table for 2 online for Magdalena Bar through Resy for Saturday morning. When we arrived the bar was not open and the staff was unaware that they were short staffed. We were told by the host that someone would be up there shortly to serve us. We waited 10mins and still didn’t see anyone opening the bar. Unfortunately, there was no seating in Summer House so we left. Not a great first experience, we were excited to try the cocktails! The property is beautiful and bummed we weren’t able to enjoy it.

I went here with a friend and was extremely disappointed. The place is beautiful though! We had a reservation but we weren’t even helped and just sat down. After waiting 30+ minutes to get drinks we canceled our order and I was assured by the waiter I was not going to be charged. I was refunded for the drinks and then charged even more. I called 3xs and spoke to a manager. I was assured that they were working on it and I would just be waiting for my refund. Turns out no one told anyone until the THIRD time I called and a WEEK later I get an email stating they would start “doing further research.” After three weeks and poor staff there and on the phone I just started to dispute it with my bank and asked for a receipt on what exactly I was charged for when I received nothing from the bar. I would not recommend this place or just pay in cash. Extremely sketchy and poor staff.

Good spot. Explored around and found this gem. Small bar with great cocktails and nice feel. Looks over a very nice green space.
