I attended a work outing at MaGerk’s in Fort Washington, and the experience was incredibly disappointing. We were there for dinner and drinks, and after enjoying our meals, we continued to order a few more rounds of drinks while relaxing at the table. Out of nowhere, our waiter, John B., came over and abruptly flagged our table and cut us off. There was no warning or communication and his explanation was that he has his Responsible Alcohol Management Program (RAMP) certification and due to the number of drinks ordered in the time frame he was obligated to stop serving us. He blamed it on the bar tender seeing the number of total drinks, time stamps and flagging us. All while at the table, there were drinks that have not been consumed or finished.
At this point, we asked to speak to the Manager, Nicole, to get a better understanding on why this happened and the abruptness of it. She offered zero clarification and ultimately blamed it on the waiter and said it was up to his discretion. Her customer service skills were incredibly poor. She was dismissive and condescending in her communication and explanation.
As a sober, pregnant person at the table, I was in a clear state of mind and can confidently say that no one was acting inappropriately or behaving in a way that would justify being cut off. The entire group was calm, respectful, and simply enjoying a night out together.
To top it all off, after settling the 20% gratuity which was automatically added to our $900 tab due to having a group of nine people, Nicole, the manager, came back and told us we had to leave the property entirely. We were not loud, aggressive, or causing any issues. It was an unnecessarily hostile way to treat a large, paying group.
Would not recommend this place for any type of group or work gathering.
