Best bookstore in Minneapolis! The selection is abundant and includes every kind of book you could need. The prices are affordable, and there’s a discounted section in the back. The clerks are friendly and knowledgeable. Skip Barnes & Noble and come here!!

Elsa Steen Koppell

Google
Excellent bookstore - one of the best I've ever seen! The selection was incredible, basically every genre was accounted for. Good mix of new and used books, the used books were particularly reasonably priced (most were in like-new condition as well!). Employees were helpful and provided good recommendations!

Google
Everybody already knows, but for those that do not - stop wasting your time at the big box bookstores that always disappoint you or break your bank account. If you’re trying to read it, Magers and Quinn has x10. Huge selection of any kind of books you could dream of, plus unique bookmarks, magnets, and little gifts for that super fan of reading in your life.

Google
Great independent bookstore! Great selection and friendly staff! We visited while in town for the weekend and would recommend a visit if you're in to independent bookstores or if you just want to support your local business. Highly recommended!

Google
Best bookstore ever! We go here 1-2 times a week on our walks around the neighborhood and can’t stay away. There is an excellent selection of books, friendly staff, and a solid clearance section. My favorite sections are travel, seeing the staff picks, and browsing the generous shelves of cookbooks! They also buy books if you’re ready to pass on some stories to someone else and get store credit for new ones. They have tons of events with authors and a nice merch/gift area. If you haven’t been to Magers & Quinn yet, get it on your list!

Google
Magers & Quinn – 5 Stars This isn’t a bookstore. It’s a sentient labyrinth that knows what book you need before you do. I went in looking for a light read and left with a first edition, a curse, and a renewed sense of purpose. The shelves stretch infinitely in all directions, bending space and time. I swear I saw a guy enter the fiction section in 2012 and he just walked out holding Infinite Jest and mumbling something about “the wheel turning again.” Fair. The staff? Mysterious, knowledgeable, possibly time travelers. I asked for help finding a book and was handed a copy wrapped in velvet with my name already inscribed in it. I didn’t ask questions. I just paid in exact change I didn’t remember having. Highly recommend. Bring a compass and a snack.

Google
This is a cool bookstore to peruse. Great selection and large unique graphic novel collection. Unfortunately, the books and stationary are a little pricey. Found the same journals at half price books for you guessed it, half the price. In this economy, it’s tough to not try to get a better deal.

Google
Wonderful bookstore with many special editions and rare finds, as well as new releases. The shop is surprisingly big and well stocked with enough to keep you busy for hours. There are some beautiful notebooks, stickers and gifts too. The staff is helpful and and knowledgable.

Yelp
I've walked past this bookshop so many times, and when I needed to buy a hardcover book recently, instead of heading to Amazon I decided to order it through their online shop and pick up in person. WOW, I was not prepared for how massive this place is! From the outside it looks so quaint and small. NO, this shop goes on for what feels like miles, with shelves upon shelves of books inside. What a place to get lost for an afternoon! It was my first time in and the front cashier helped direct me to where I'd pick up my online order. The online order team was very helpful. I stopped to peruse and look around a bit, but know I'll have to come back for a full day of exploring. My online order was reasonably priced and great to have instore pickup to skip the shipping costs. I'll be back!

Yelp
Super fun bookstore. Great selection. I could spend all day in here. The staff members that I interacted with were very friendly.

Yelp
This auto-shop-turned-bookstore is a reader's used book Mecca! There was so much to find at Magers & Quinn! There were so many options for every reader. Between friendly staff and good organization with visible labeling, this is a wonderful bookshop to visit. Most of the books (maybe all?) are used and in good to excellent condition from what I could tell. I enjoyed how much stock was available at reasonable prices. Magers & Quinn is one of our "Must Return To" finds from the 2024 Twin Cities Indie Bookstores Passport!

Yelp
A wonderful bookstore in the heart of uptown. This place is a community staple and a great place to get lost in for hours. It is HUGE and the selection is extremely varied. You can find books on any topics you'd like. The pricing is fair, and they even buy back books if that's something you're interested in. The staff is attentive if you need anything or recommendations.

Yelp
This is a lovely bookstore, worth stopping in if you haven't been here. Great selection of books, new and used are mixed together with reasonable prices. The have nice selections of cards, notebooks and such. Nice people seem to work here. Check them out

Yelp
I highly recommend this shop for any book lover. The workers are always friendly and willing to help (two of them even helped me find a merch shirt in my size). Prices for the books are average, but their stock is what makes this bookstore so fantastic. There are sections for every topic you can think of, I love the cookbook and fiction sections, particularly. If you want more than books, there's also puzzles, notebooks, t-shirts, bookmarks, etc. Parking: pay on-street parking. I recommend parking on 31st St, right off of Hennepin. Accessibility: wheel-chair accessible mostly (no step to get in, but no automatic door button). Bathrooms aren't wheelchair friendly (doors too narrow). Bathrooms: a bit stretchy, but the toilets and sinks are clean.

Yelp
This is my favorite bookstore. Period. The staff are helpful, they offer new and used versions of many books, and have shipping available online for what they don't have in store.

Yelp
Magers and Quinn is one of the best bookstores I have ever been to. For a year, I lived right next to this place and while I am not much of a reader, my partner is, and she would drag me here all the time. Unlike many other bookstores I have been to though, this place has a large selection of cookbooks and a very massive selection of bargain books. They have a whole wall in the back of the store where the books cost as low as $1 or $2. In this section, I have found old America's Test Kitchen Cookbooks, Julia Child cookbooks and so many more gems. Now, I don't read much (read as at all), but I have managed to find a few books here that were really good and used such as Bourdain's first book for $2. They also have a huge selection of brand new books, newer used books for a pretty good price, and games, cards, etc. The space is lovely and the hours being 10 am - 10 pm everyday is awesome for some late night visits. The staff are always super friendly, and I feel like a real winner when I am checking out and they say the book I'm buying is a good one. Highly recommend everyone check this place out.

Yelp
My favorite bookstore in the cities! I love to go for a walk around bde and then make a stop here to pick up a book. My favorite part of the store is the used book/$2 shelf in the back of the store, it always has a fun selection of books to sort through.

Emc H.

Yelp
I was taken aback at first by the good vibe there as my son said he really liked going to this bookstore. He didn't want me to complain about the $3 they handed him for 10+books they bought from my used book collection. Only it was scandalous the great number of books he sold them for a measly $6. He is on the spectrum with Asperger's and works hard to buy books so it was a great disappointment for us to drive where he had taken a bus ride twice before. My son came home and laid in bed 2 hours due to the roller coaster of emotions experienced from selling his books for such a shocking amount. I wanted to go and get our books back instead wrote to them and not heard back. I wouldn't do business there if they do not tell you beforehand they literally pay pennies on the dollar to anyone who sells books to them.

O T.

Yelp
If you want to sell any used books, stay far away from this place. On my last book unloading (November 2024), I used them. Never again. I came in with 174 books. I left with 101 (the ones they did not buy). I was given $16! For 73 books! I asked which ones they bought and how much was paid for each book. I was told they do not keep this information! Then it dawned on me. When I moved to Minneapolis almost 25 years ago, I also did a small book dump at the time. New to the area, I wanted a place close by. This was the exact same place I used then (I completely forgot about this). But what I do recall is that I brought in many books (forget the actual number but around 100 would be my guess). They ended up buying almost every single one of them. But this I distinctly remember. I was paid $9! Do not be scammed by this place. There are several other bookbuyers in the metro. But they are reputable bookbuyers.

Yelp
This bookstore has great vibes. There is a wide array of books and you could definitely get lost in there for hours if you tried. All of the staff I have interacted with there so far were very pleasant and helpful. From the purchases I've made, the books seem to be very decently priced (but personally, I don't really care if I can get them a few bucks cheaper somewhere else, it feels good to support local).
google avatar

Christian K.

Yelp
Good place but here are some things I've noticed when it comes to how they buy used books: - no mass markets - nothing in "good" condition - needs to be great - very little interest in translated works I would go somewhere else if you're wanting to sell. Service is good, and value is a little below average.

Yelp
This is my new favorite place in Uptown. I didn't realize there was a local bookstore so close to me and I am so glad I got to visit. This place is MASSIVE. And has any kind of book you could possibly want (even signed copies). The best part? These books are actually cheaper than from bigger book stores. They also take used books so you can find a ton of good books for a really good price. I will be making this a regular stop of mine and I cannot wait to go back and get lost in the shelves.

Yelp
First came into Magers & Quinn while on a walk around the neighborhood! The bookstore is pretty huge and has two levels I think? I stuck to the ground level and explored some of the different areas. Like most bookstores, they've got everything neatly organized by category and have popular anti-racist titles up front. They also have other great local bookstore do-dads like posters. I left with a couple books, one a local book and another a pretty popular title! Will definitely be open to shopping here for any book needs! COVID-19 notes: all staff members were wearing masks and I noticed a lot of signage about covering your cough/sneeze, keeping distance, etc. They also had some hand sanitizer available at the entrance.

Yelp
Sometimes getting lost in a great bookstore is the perfect way to spend an afternoon. If this sounds good Magers & Quinn is your place. Endlessly fascinating, stocked with titles and categories you won't find in any other bookstore. Super helpful and super friendly staff make it enjoyable to spend quality time here. It's the perfect place to buy gifts for hard to buy for readers or find niche and engaging books for yourself. On Hennepin in Uptown this is a real treasure for the Twin Cities.
google avatar

Yelp
Magers & Quinn is a classic just like your favorite paperback. Go now! They have everything you didn't know you needed in book form. They have so many well stocked sections you could spend days in here. The used book section is fantastically well stocked and excellently priced. Whenever I'm in uptown I have to stop here and Penzey's since they are neighbors. The staff is super helpful and friendly. They can answer your questions and lead you in the right direction. Plus joked around with me while they were checking out my purchases. I've been here for some author readings and other events too. I felt they were well done and organized. Definitely look into all of the other events too. The Magers + Fig book club looks really interesting. I hope to join in some time. Get ye to the best independent bookstore in the Twin Cities!

Yelp
Delightful staff and large store with amazing selection. Everything you'd dream about from a local, independent bookseller.
google avatar

Katy F.

Yelp
This place is such a hidden gem! The shop itself is inconspicuous from the outside. Once you walk in, you quickly realize just how massive it is. We had so much fun roaming around in here. If you're an avid reader, or just learning how, this is a must-stop in Uptown.

Luna F.

Yelp
Magers and Quinn is one of the best bookstores I have ever been to!The best local bookstore I've found in Minneapolis so far!
google avatar

Katlyn P.

Yelp
Simple put ... this book store is amazing. Forgot the fact that it is in Uptown. Once you walk inside, you can spend a whole day getting lost in the shelfs. My favorite part about exploring the book store was the cute recommendation notes throughout the store and why someone thought the book was a great read. They were signed notes, which made it a nice touch! Also, had no idea you could sell books here! Amazing. This place is a diamond in the rough (which is Uptown).
google avatar

Sally R.

Yelp
The best local bookstore I've found in Minneapolis so far! Huge selection and the staff recommendations are always great. I could easily spend an entire afternoon wandering around this magical space.
google avatar

April G.

Yelp
This place was so cute and the staff was very friendly. If you're looking for fiction, head as far back into the store and take a right. Bought a few books and it's all decently priced. They have a not too shabby clearance section as well. Lots of different reads. Would go to again!

Yelp
In a day and age when bookstores have mostly succumbed to the Amazon effect, Magers and Quinn was a wonderful throwback. Real books - both used and new - organized the old fashioned way by genre, and offered at reasonable prices. This location is in a near-downtown area of Minneapolis and has a lot of through-traffic. Nice location in Uptown, easy parking on the street, great selection of books (old and new versions are always offered side by side to make your decision easier), and very nice staff to help you get what you are looking for. They are opened seven days a week, and they also buy used books (for cash or store credit) for those looking to thin their herd. This is a go to lace for those seeking an old-fashioned, brick and mortar bookstore. Recommended.

Yelp
What a great bookstore. I was visiting and had a hankering for a bookstore-reprieve. Good selection, plenty of space to browse and read. Staff was awesome too. I made a purchase and I will visit when I am back in town
google avatar

Lisa P.

Yelp
I'm embarrassed to say that I've lived in Uptown for a few years now and just discovered Magers & Quinn today. I've walked by several times, but somehow thought it was a used bookstore and didn't realize the vast selection of both new and used books. That said, I will be a frequent customer now, as I thought Magers & Quinn was wonderful! Pros: 1. Great selection with descriptions and recommendations listed on some books. 2. Friendly staff - My friend was looking for a children's board book about planes, and the staff member found several options for her. 3. Great prices! All of the books I looked at were marked below the publishers price. 4. Open late! 5. Fun gifts - including book-related clothing and accessories. Cons: 1. The only one I can think of is that you can easily lose track of time here because there is such a great selection. :)
google avatar

Rachel W.

Yelp
I could spend hours upon hours at this bookstore. My absolute favorite thing is when bookstores shelve the new AND used books TOGETHER. It's genius. Do I want new or used? Oh, look, I can decide! I adore having the option. And let's talk about the shelves upon shelves of books. This store is huge! I spent the morning winding through each genre, each shelf, each book. What a beautiful store.

Eric S.

Yelp
They fouled up the shipping address (or a least being inflexible to immediate changes to orders). They will reship to correct address only when receiving the order back for the Post Office marked "undeliverable as addressed" wasting a lot of time. No way to make changes in orders even before they are shipped. Customer service was horrible.
google avatar

Courtney B.

Yelp
Wonderful independent bookstore in uptown. Very covid-safe- they only let a certain number of people in the store (with masks) while others wait in line outside. Responsible prices and great selection.
google avatar

Qaiser B.

Yelp
Probably one of the finest businesses still open in uptown. Great book collection. Even nicer staff and always a pleasure to talk to them. If I want a new book, I sell my old books and get a store credit whicb shaves off quite a few dollars on the price of my new book. Highly recommended shop.
google avatar

Alli Y.

Yelp
I am in love with this place. Everytime I come to uptown, I always make sure this is a stop for me! The atmosphere in here is amazing. Filled with nostalgia and melancholy, it kind of warms your heart in a certain way-- similar to how the sunset makes you feel on those beautiful summer nights. It makes you warm and safe. They always have new books to have on their shelves, and theres always something for everyon, so there should be mo excuse of not finding a book for yourself or someone else!
google avatar

Alan L.

Yelp
A wonderful resource. This type of comprehensive independent book store used to be more common. Unfortunately, few of these gems remain. Whether you're looking for a recently released title or want to browse used books on a specific topic, you mostly likely will make a purchase and be glad you shopped at their store. The staff is friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Melanie M.

Yelp
This is definitely the place to "sell" your books for cash or store credit. I got a much bigger offer than I feel I would have gotten at other used bookstores based on previous experince. Plus, their selection is excellent. I adore the mix of new and used, although it was almost a bit confusing if the book was brand new or minimally used (a good problem I suppose). I will definitely continue to patronize this store in my future!
google avatar

Lynda T.

Yelp
This bookstore is simply awesome! I love their mix of used and new books, as well as some clothing items, candles, journals, and so much more! I have always found the employees there to be friendly and helpful. As far as iI'm concerned, Magers & Quinn is THE BEST place in the Twin Cities to sell used books - they offer a choice of cash or store credit (which is the better choice, of course, assuming you need/want more books).
google avatar

Rachel R.

Yelp
What do they have? More like, what don't they have!? New, used, vintage, and local. Novels, cookbooks, kid's book, and coloring books. They even have postcards and prints! This is a lovely spot to browse if you're in the neighborhood. And I encourage you to make a purchase to support this longstanding local business. Additionally, they regularly host meet and greets with authors. Pop on in to check out the schedule.
google avatar

Monique H.

Yelp
Bookstores are my favorite so it's hard to pick one that exceeds all others. Magers and Quinn, though, is pretty much the cat's pajamas. Their staff is knowledgeable and their selection of new, used, and vintage is fantastic. There's a little reading nook that I could spend hours in and their bookish gifts are amazing. Not only is the store wonderful, but they also have author signings and sponsor other great events around the Cities. Parking is a (insert swear) around that neighborhood, but with La La Homemade Ice Cream just down the block, it's worth the extra steps. Love this place!
google avatar

Sarah J.

Yelp
Love the independent bookstores. They just FEEL better. This one's no exception. I like sitting on the floor of an aisle and reading. They don't have much in the way of chairs, sadly (some bookstores want you to browse and loiter and some don't...) While I've taken to buying a lot of my books online, sometimes a girl just want to hold the book in her hand...and not wait for it to arrive at her door. So I take myself over to Magers and Quinn where I always spend more money than I intend - but on books! I never regret buying books, except for this one "____ for Dummies" that I bought in a moment of weakness. The fiction selection is very good - the whole front room in fact is full of good books. Non-fiction world, in the back, is more hit and miss, but certainly better stocked than the big box stores (which seem to have less and less inventory). Sales folks are helpful, especially since you might not think to look in "Sociology" for a certain book you've only heard of. You may find cheaper used books at another store - but probably not the ones you're looking for, and M&Q's selection is tough to beat in these parts.
google avatar

Jacqui B.

Yelp
Wah-hoo, M&Q! I really had a good time in this store, needed about 2 more hours to get my fill and I will go back soon! I'm working my way through a list of Twin Cities bookstores, mostly used books, and M&Q is exactly the format I like.....categories with subcategories aside,I just like the SPACE between bookshelves and sections....it felt like a "fun library" ;) I asked the guy at the counter for books on travel, specifically Europe, and on "travel essays", 1st person accounts of what to find where....both sections were lain out PERFECTLY! Now, to find the time to get back to M&Q - and to Europe!
google avatar

Sierra M.

Yelp
This bookstore has such a broad and amazing selection of books - used and new. The staff is always super helpful as well! Recently, I have been shopping their online store, and they have ever title I could imagine. Would definitely recommend for anyone wanting some new reads!
google avatar

Tessa C.

Yelp
When my boyfriend and I were considering relocating to Colorado for my work, our main concern was moving away from Magers and Quinn. We have been gone for a month, and we still talk about how much we miss this place. We have even talked about planning a vacation back to Minneapolis solely to satisfy our Magers and Quinn withdrawals. We miss the the aisles of books, the local atmosphere, and the thrill of finding a signed first edition of a book we have been dying to read. We will never find a bookstore like Magers and Quinn. It's a landmark in Minneapolis and a landmark in my heart.
google avatar

Trish S.

Yelp
Oh my nerd status is expert. In case you thought I was just a pretty face, I was/am also a straight-A student and a heavy reader of all types of books from a very young age. In fact, my parents used to use me as a party trick as I could recite whole children's books from memory from about 5 years old. My never ending book appetite has resulted in knowing everything about wizards, vampires, a bit about time and space travel, some knowledge about asteroid mining (didn't get too far on that one though admittedly), I've read all the classics, I read Pride and Prejudice once a year at least, my ipad has all of Edgar Allan Poe, plus Tina Fey and trashy beach literature. I don't discriminate too broadly, nor am I overly selective. I own a few first editions and early 1900's volumes, I buy hardback to collect and I read based on mood... and I am quite moody at that. So you'll understand when I say a book store like this is a feast for my soul. Dig in folks. You'll find a whole cabinet of first editions and rare books at first, and the realize the upstairs is full of them. Every best seller is sprinkled throughout and the topic sections are dense and have every offering you could want. It's right up there with Powell's in Portland or Elliott Bay in Seattle. Very helpful staff sprinkle themselves about in a convenient fashion with subtle help when you were just about to ask anyways. It's both charming and orderly. For those of you who cannot take the solemn time to wander and worship the written word, you can order online to inquire about a certain title before you head in with their website. Shop small, buy independent.
google avatar

Annie D.

Yelp
If you ask me (which nobody does but I tell them anyway), I prefer libraries to bookstores. The reality behind it is that I love bookstores, but I wish they were free. My 'brary-biased self has only purchased books at Magers & Quinn a couple of times, but it's really what a bookstore should be -- a wannabe library. It's independent, it's local, it's clean and nobody bothers you even when they know you come in every day for an hour to copy recipes out of cookbooks (I don't really do this... or do I?). Magers & Quinn also has all sorts of community involvement, author meet and greets, book signings and the like. They even sponsor a lot of events for bookworms around the Twin Cities. Clearly, you can find better deals on Amazon, Half or used book stores, but if I need a quick but thoughtful gift or if absolutely must have pages in hand immediately, I definitely come here before I go to Borders or B&N. TIP: The table displays are book club friendly, so if you are low on ideas, check them out.

Yelp
Whoa! I've been to bookstores in about 35 states and am usually very critical. Bookstores are dying, hell books are dying, and that makes me very said, so I try to buy as many books as I can from indie stores like this one. Magers and Quinn was one of about four bookstores that I had planned to visit while in Minneapolis, but I wet myself as soon as I walked in the door and decided to cross all others off my list. I've been known to spend hours in bookstores before, but Magers had me seriously considering grabbing my tent, and taking up residence in one of the aisles. I wanted to touch every page of every book in the whole store. I was tempted to hump the legs of everyone I almost bumped into as I made my way hypnotically around the greatest place ever. Someone else said that this place rivals City Lights in San Francisco, but I would say that the only advantage City Lights has is its history. After spending about nineteen days covering every square inch of this gem (including the strangely placed bathroom) I retired to a coffee shop down the street to do some reading (buying new books always lights a fire under my ass to finish whatever book I'm presently reading). After a couple cups and a hundred or so pages, I returned that evening for a free - yes FREE - poetry reading and left feeling more inspired than I have in months. I don't know if I'll ever be back to Minneapolis, but I can guarantee that if I'm ever within 100 miles, I will do everything in my power to make a detour. Please visit this store!

Gilbert A.

Yelp
Magers & Quinn is a superb bookseller in the heart of Uptown, Minneapolis, on the same block as Penzey's Spices, the Suburban World Theatre, the Uptown Bar & Cafe and other independent establishments. A few years ago it managed to outlive a small Borders Store that sat right across the street, giving hope to those of us who've mourned Uptown's takeover by a snooty 50th & France-like crowd over the past decade. Magers & Quinn offers an assortment of new and used books, but the dominating smell of musty, aging pages--found only in used books stores--highlights their wealth of antique, out-of-print and rare edition publications. As book stores in the Twin-Cities go, their collection of fiction is almost second to none, ranging from canon works to contemporary masterpieces [Note: fans of science fiction, mystery and romance novels will likely be disappointed]. Equally as impressive is their selection of books on the hard sciences, religion/spirituality, history (Minnesota and regional), the social sciences and art/architecture/interior design. My only dislike of Magers & Quinn is its superfluous supply of cooking and gardening books. Perhaps it's because I feel neither the pressure to impress anyone with my culinary skills, nor the motivation to harvest anything more than a potted plant. In any case, Magers & Quinn is the type of store that makes authentic book lovers feel comfortably at home.
google avatar

Kristen H.

Yelp
Oh Magers & Quinn how I love you. You make me want to be a better person. All the books I've had in the back of my mind that I should read, combined with tons more that prove I'm just a literary neophyte. I could (and do!) spend hours browsing, talking with the awesome staff, and adding to my already far too large "to read" book pile. It may be possible to find cheaper used books elsewhere but not with this selection...last time I walked out with 7 awesome books for just about $50. impulsive, yes, but they were mostly classics or 'educational' so maybe, just maybe, they will make me a better person. Now I just have to turn off the damn TV and read.

Yelp
If you want what everybody's reading, you'll most likely find it here. I think of all the bookstores, they have the most helpful staff here. This was a destination trip after reading a lot of recent reviews. Nothing is cramped here, and you are welcomed by a couple of racks of very cheap books on the sidewalk before you even enter. I found a $2.00 hardcover book by Tamar Myers called The Crepes of Wrath. Another female cozy mystery series with recipes. Someone directed me to the mysteries where hc and pb are mixed together. They have a lot of large print sized books. Unfortunately for me they have very few selections of my favorite authors, and some like Jonathan Kellerman are priced higher than other places. But it is a beautiful bookstore, and maybe I can go online and order some favorites and they'll deliver them here. I just found out that many local authors have book launches and readings here, so keep up on the events and meet these great people.

Yelp
If literature had a smell, it would smell like Magers & Quinn. When you walk in the door you can literally smell the crisp pages just begging to be leafed through. I don't typically buy books (I rock it old school, hitting up my neighborhood library), but every once in a while I get a hankering to own my own copy of a new (or old) favorite. I love that M&A carries new and used selections, and from a good selection of genres; a great place to pick up used classics for pretty cheap. This place is well organized and the staff is helpful and friendly.

Yelp
Get lost here. This place defines bookstore. Whether you're a bookie or a "I only look at covers" type of person, the employees don't discriminate and are very helpful no matter what you're looking for. Remember your purchase supports a small business, so you'll likely pay more here than you would online or at a large retailer. But if it's a gift, wrap it up with one of their business cards or a bookmark. Let 'em know their book came from a home where it was loved first, so someday they might drive down Hennepin and see the store and say, "Hey! That's where XYZ came from!" So much more personal than Amazon.

Yelp
Magers and Quinn is one of those bookstores that kind of depresses me because I realize that there are so many books in the world that I want to read and I just won't be able to get to all of them. Honestly, I think that's the feeling that you SHOULD get from a bookstore, so job well done M&Q. The staff is super friendly and helpful, but they're totally willing to let you spend an afternoon browsing without disruption. I love the mix of antique books in the literature section, so while I might buy the new paperback, I can imagine what it must have looked like as a first issue. I am a huge fan of the "it seems slightly disorganized but is actually hyper-organized" look -- it makes me feel like I'm discovering something special, like a treasure, when I grab a book off the shelf. They also have a great location since after winding through the aisles at M&Q, you can stop at Lucia's for a quick coffee and yummy cookie. Magers & Quinn: Basically perfection in bookstore form.
