Folks, I'm a foodie and I'm also Italian. I know good Italian cuisine, cook good Italian cuisine, and understand what recipes and techniques should be used in good Italian Cuisine. Maggio's in Southampton does not cook, serve or understand good Italian cuisine. It was awful. Firstly, the salad was old and browning on the edges, and the dressing was ranch instead of bue cheese like I ordered. Secondly, the minestrone soup was drastically oversalted, and tasted like soup from a failing diner or underfunded nursing home. Third, the waitress did not bring us any plates for our appetizer, the "General Tso's cauliflower," which, by the way, was so sweet that it may have actually been candied. Disgusting. Then came the entrees. Oh boy. The chicken francaise was so thick and gloppy that my fork actually stood up in the sauce. I suppose the chef used either corn starch or a whole lot of flour to make the lemon sauce a thick, slimy, goopy disaster. My friend had the eggplant rotallini, which was mushy and tremendously bland. The chefs here wouldn't know how to use a garlic clove evenif Dracula himself was approaching. No garlic, very little salt, zero herbs, no seasoning. Prior to our meals we ordered drinks. They were also horrible. Mind was so bitter that I couldn't even drink it. There is zero possibility that the cooks at Maggios Southampton are Italian. Zero. There is also zero possibility that they have made any effort to understand Italian cuisine or cooking techniques. Maggios should not bill itself as an Italian restaurant. To top off the terrible food, the bar was full of people screaming in unison at the top of their lungs nonstop. Let's just say that the clientele is not upscale, to put it politely. We were not offered dessert and I was never even able to get a second diet soda the entire time we were there, as we were pretty much neglected most of the time we were there. Horrible experience all around.
