The Best Restaurants OTP - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"There is no shortage of fast casual, cafeteria-style soul food joints around the metro. That's a big reason why Magic Soul Food shines as a nice sit-down experience in Sandy Springs. And it's still not your average restaurant —between the spacious dining room and corner bar, it works for family dinners or friend hangouts, with karaoke Thursdays and comedy nights keeping things lively. In a city full of soul food spots, Magic Soul Food carves its own lane. - Review - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"Atlanta has more soul food spots than Hellcats on the Connector at 3am. That means you really have to stand out to make an impression. Magic Soul Food in Sandy Springs does for one major reason—everything on the menu is great, from the crispy fried chicken and tender smothered turkey wings to the cornbread that’s sweet and fluffy. The plush gray cushioned chairs, gold accents, and a snazzy corner bar give the whole space some serious rich auntie energy, making it perfect for brunch with either the after-church crew or your moscato buddies. It’s also a solid hangout spot at dinnertime—pop by for karaoke and comedy nights when you want some entertainment with your soul food. Food Rundown Cornbread This is the kind of cornbread that should be sold by the pan. You get a generous slice that’s springy, sweet, and perfectly moist. photo credit: Sarah Newman Chicken & Waffles The chicken is crispy and juicy inside and rests on a bed of four waffle triangles. The waffles really shine here—they’re dense and so dessert-level sweet, you can skip the syrup. PlayMute Lobster & Grits A standout brunch pick, featuring a tender, fried lobster tail paired with creamy, savory grits. Salmon & Shrimp A thick, flavorful salmon fillet and juicy, grilled shrimp come with your choice of two hearty sides, like collard greens and yams. The chances of having leftovers are very high. Collard Greens The greens are sturdy and seasoned so well, you’ll consider asking for the pot likker. Candied Yams These tender yams don’t overdo it with the sugar, which makes them a must-order. photo credit: Sarah Newman" - Jacinta Howard

We had a very large party. The staff was so accommodating and friendly. The food was so good! I had the vegetable platter. The cabbage, the greens, the sweet potatoes - everything was perfect. The cornbread was a little too sweet for my taste, but I asked for and got a corner piece because I love the crunch. Will definitely come back when I’m in Atlanta.

The food is amazing! Flavorful and had great portions. The waitress was descriptive on each dish asked and assisted greatly with recommended foods. Definitely going back for brunch!

Yesterday, I was craving some soul food. I was surprised to find this restaurant in Sandy Springs. I called and they told me it was a new business in the area, so I was skeptical to try it out, but I’m so happy I did. I ordered the Turkey Wings, Collard Greens, Mac and cheese and a side of Candied Yams. Y’all, the customer service these ladies provided was great. Now, the food. The food was soooo good and the portion was perfect! I am thinking about going back today. Thank me later and check them out!

Wait staff was pleasant. Food was tasty but I took off 2 stars for the 1hr wait time after ordering & the meat portions. We felt it was a little overpriced for the portion size. I had the baked chicken and it was 2 drummettes and a small thigh. My date had catfish and he said it tasted like nuggets instead of a filet. I probably would order from the brunch menu next time.

Google
I love soulfood. So I HAD TO TRY this place. I went initially on Saturday which advertised it opens at 11. I sat in the parking lot until 11:45 and left. Decided to give them a second try the next day. The turkey wings were wonderful. The yams potato salad were full of flavor. Greens and mac and cheese were disappointing 😞 I gave this place a lower than superb rating for the following reasons. While the place is nice cleanliness goes a looooong way. It appears that none of the tables were cleaned from the night prior. Smell...it smelled like hookah or weed. Music was too loud! Lastly someone previously mentioned the child running around. The child was there again I believe on my visit. While he was under careful watch it impacts the experience.

Magic Soul Food is an absolute treasure in the realm of soul food, and my recent dining experience there left me thoroughly impressed and deeply satisfied. From the moment I walked in, the warm and inviting atmosphere set the stage for what would be a remarkable experience. I started my meal with the Jumbo Shrimp, and it was nothing short of perfection. Each shrimp was spot-on; cooked to a golden crisp on the outside, while retaining a juicy and tender interior. Accompanying the shrimp was a generous serving of broccoli, which was steamed to perfection with just the right amount of flavor and crunch. The potato salad at Magic Soul Food is a must-try. Creamy, tangy, and perfectly seasoned, it brought back memories of traditional family gatherings. It was comfort food at its finest. The highlight of the meal, however, was the candied yams. They were a true testament to the soul food tradition. Each bite was a burst of caramelized sweetness, with a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg that added depth to the flavor. The yams were tender and practically melted in my mouth, creating a perfect end to a delightful meal. Magic Soul Food has rightfully earned its place as the best soul food restaurant I’ve ever experienced. The attention to detail and the quality of the ingredients made it a standout destination for anyone craving authentic and delicious soul food. I cannot recommend it highly enough and look forward to my next visit.

Google
I want to highlight this new addition to Sandy Springs. I know this 💎 is going to be the talk of the town. The food was amazing and the ambience wonderfully staged. I consumed a veggie plate that total to $23. (Price is competitive to other restaurants)The staff looks fit the bill but the light skin (to go) cashier could be a little more upbeat/friendly. This was my first time and she didn't highlight the menu or offer great customer service. Regardless this place is a MUST, you won't be disappointed.

Google
Via UberEATS, I ordered smothered pork chops, seasoned rice, mac and cheese, greens, and candied yams and a an Arnold Palmer. When the driver arrived, he texted me saying the restaurant was out of lemonade, so I requested a sweet tea as a substitute. Upon receipt, I received an extra greens and no yams. The printed receipt that was attached to the bag read double greens, even though my UberEATS receipt read yams. Maybe there's a tech issue. With respect to the food, the chops, gravy, rice, and greens were all far too salty. The mac and cheese was terribly basic. In addition to being salty, the greens were also sweet (strange). The cornbread was a small corner piece that was also too sweet. To make matters worse, the sweet tea didn't taste like what one would expect. Instead, it tasted like a sugary beverage with brown coloring and too much lemon juice. Unfortunately, I couldn't enjoy the meal and was forced to toss it. I tried... This was my first time ordering with the intention of bringing my girlfriend for dinner or brunch at some point in the near future. But, alas, that will not be happening after this experience. Good luck to this restaurant.

Yelp
This is truly a hidden gem. The atmosphere is nice. The parking is ample. The service is spectacular and the food is even better. If you come try the turkey wings!

Yelp
A friend and I made reservations on Friday night. When we arrived, there was an event happening in the main restaurant. We were sat in the "lounge" part so we didn't get to enjoy the atmosphere or ambiance of the actual restaurant. However, the drinks were good and the food was alright. We ordered the fried chicken and catfish. 8/10. Would definitely want to see how the restaurant is regularly.

Yelp
My gf has been trying to come here for a few weeks now but they aren't open for lunch. So we decided to make the trip out that way today for lunch and she was happy about the wait. The food was nice and hot and service was great. It was only us and another 2 tables. Not sure if this was a norm for a Saturday afternoon but I didn't mind at all. Our server was crystal (according to the receipt) and she was great! $72 for two people with automatic 18% gratuity and no alcohol drinks.

Yelp
I just moved to the area a few days ago & needed to find something to eat quickly. I found this place & im soo glad I did. The food was excellent! I got the catfish, greens, and Mac & cheese. Everything tasted great. It wasn't too busy when I arrived due to it pouring down raining and the server that took my order was really nice. Overall this seems like a great spot for food & vibes.

Yelp
We visited this Establishment on January 18, 2025 while visiting the Atlanta area from Michigan. The ambiance and decor were nice. The staff was friendly and the service was good. The food was tasty with the exception of the macaroni and cheese. The portions were EXTREMELY small! The yams and the greens were served in small ramicans that are used to hold dipping sauces!!! The macaroni and cheese was burnt on the top. We ordered the fried catfish, lamb chops, yams, macaroni and cheese, and greens. The food was EXTREMELY pricey for the portions to be so small. even The serving of cornbread was small (like a 2 inch by 2 inch square). We left this restaurant and went to another restaurant to order more food as we were hungry. Our bill was over $80 dollars for food and sweet tea and we were still hungry at the conclusion of the meal.

Yelp
OMG! This soul food done right. It's been a long time since Atlanta had soul food this good. My family dined on Father's Day. We had bbq chicken, fried chicken, and salmon with shrimp. For sides, we had macaroni cheese, yams, cabbage, and collards. Everything was delicious including the cornbread. Vegetables are cooked with turkey!! More places should do this versus cooking with pork. Either way I'm glad we checked this place out. 20/10 I do recommend.

Yelp
Food is very flavorful. Yams are one of the best I've had at a restaurant. Prices are reasonable.

Yelp
Food was above average service was great restaurant was a little cold, but they had just opened up for dinner so not that big of a problem other than that great place to eat for great soul food

Peter G.

Yelp
Low key spot in a shopping plaza that won't die. Food packed with flavor, maybe a tad too much salt. Would I go again, yup. Service pleasant. Speed of order reasonable. Stuff is made to order fresh! Surprising nice interior. Hope it gets the volume of foot traffic needed to stay open.

Yelp
Lawd have mercy! Visiting my niece in Alpharetta. Coming from Gary Indiana, I had to stop at a soul food restaurant before going home! Let me tell you, the food was off the chain!!! Crystal, our service was excellent! Everything she said about the food was true! The restaurant was decorated very nicely, clean and the music was on point! It wasn't that crowded when we got there but people was coming in to dine and it seems as though they were getting a lot of carry outs! The cook came out to greet me and I told him I might kidnap him so he can open a restaurant in Gary!! Didn't mean to say so much but if you go? You will know I wasn't lying either! Greg Henry Gary 'the GI' Indiana Roosevelt Panther '73 Black and Gold baby!!

Yelp
Wonderful turkey wings, yams, collard greens and Mac and cheese! I'm a repeat customer! Corn bread was perfect as well. Wings were greasy upon delivery but after draining were tasty!

Yelp
I never thought I would find some of the best soul foods in Sandy Springs of all the places in Georgia. I live about 5 minutes from this restaurant and it's fairly new. Everything that I got tasted delicious and I can't wait to go back. From their smothered turkey to their candid yams.. you will not be disappointed at all.

Angel D.

Yelp
The food was good. The floors were sticky. No real drink menu, just a few listed on the main menu. The friendly waitress offered to bring us some "Magic Punch". It's listed as $4.95 each on the menu so we order 4, but the price was changed to $18.00 each when the bill came out. Failing to tell us about the price change, whether it was intentional or unintentional, doesn't create a positive dining experience. Spending almost $80 on drinks that tasted like regular fruit juice wasn't in the plan, but we paid the bill and left. Maybe they needed it more than us ‍.

Yelp
Food was delicious!!!!! Service and ambiance Great! First time in Atlanta and was looking for soul food! We were not disappointed at all, very flavorful and not salty. Definitely will visit again! Thank you.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere! Good and attentive service! Food was good although I wish I ordered more sides because the portions are smaller than what I'm used to when I go to restaurants these days.

Michale B.

Yelp
One word to describe Magic Soul Cafe...EXCEPTIONAL! Ambiance is a total vibe, great service, and food. I loved that their food was flavorful but not heavy with sodium. Yams were some of the best I've ever had at any restaurant in Atlanta. If you want a great experience & fire food- slide!!

Lisa B.

Yelp
The food was very good, but 20% Gratuity was a bit too much..Great service, friendly and welcoming vibe

Life Of T.

Yelp
The food was okay. Wasn't giving soul food, it was salty and the macaroni not really like black people macaroni or the greens. I'd say only thing that taste black is the cornbread. And gratuity is included when it's not even a big party of people didnt really wanna tip cause it was ass but hey.

Raymond A.

Yelp
The food was way too salty how the fuck you put too much salt on candy yams why is there even salt on it the glazed salmon was just salty no glaze

Gigi G.

Yelp
In a quest to find soul food on the north side of the city I stumbled onto Magic Soulfood and I'm so glad I did. It's a fairly new restaurant but don't let that stop you from giving them a try. Between my friend and I, we had smothered turkey wings, fried chicken, fried catfish, Mac and cheese, yams, and broccoli. Everything was soooooo good! I'm very picky about yams and theirs are the best I've ever had at a restaurant. They had great customer service. I didn't get the names of their staff but everyone was so nice and friendly, going through the menu in detail. They even gave us a sample of their potato salad. Not everybody can make potato salad but I will definitely be ordering it the next time I go in. They have live music and some themed nights like ladies night on Fridays that I'll go back and check out another time. Overall it has a nice ambiance and the bar area is nice as well. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of my food but they have pictures and videos on their instagram account @magicsoulfood_atlanta.

Yelp
I just want to give Shawn his wife and staff an "A" plus plus! Let's start off with the look of the look of the restaurant, very clean and beautiful, The server was friendly and knowledgeable, The chef personally came out to greet us and say hello (how awesome is that) and OMGGGGGGGG!!!! The food is delicious, I wanted a blanket and pillow because the seating is so comfortable. Music was great selections. I can not wait to go back. This is a place you want to support.

Cassandra D.

Yelp
Service was Awful. Waited almost 2 hours to be served. Pick up and Door Dash orders were being served constantly before the dine in guest.
