"The popular destination for Instagrammable baked treats has come under fire for serving cake pops allegedly tainted with mold at its Fort Worth store. Owners temporarily shuttered the store to investigate the incident and would throw away the remaining pops. City health inspectors are involved." - Alaena Hostetter

"Unicorn-themed sweet shop Magical Dessert Bar has closed its doors in Deep Ellum, despite attracting hours-long lines for its twee sugary treats. According to GuideLive, the dessert shop is heading to a bigger, more kid-friendly location in Deep Ellum, with plans to change its name to House of Unicorn by Magical Dessert Bar. Expect cupcakes, milkshakes, and plenty of selfie opportunities next to the 8-foot-tall unicorn mural when the House of Unicorn opens this spring." - Amy McCarthy

The only downfall is you will wait an hour or more depending on the time you go and we went Sunday at 3pm. The line was down the street which put parents and their kids standing on the sidewalk that is SUPER congested. It’s also somewhat the nature of the Deep Ellum area. There is very little seating outside the establishment and none inside. Regardless it’s an ADORABLE experience. Unicorns are everywhere and the desserts are good. The kids love it and that makes us happy.

Here's the timeline of what happened when we got there: my son, my husband, and I walked in and we were greeted by the cashier. I noticed at least 8 people working in the back but no smells of baking or sounds of batter being mixed. They were just standing there. I then picked my son up IN FRONT OF EVERYONE and asked him what he wanted and they all saw him ask for the kabob. I then ordered a kabob and a red velvet cupcake CLEARLY to the cashier. We paid for it and then waited. Its small inside so I waited outside the doors after getting my cupcake. My husband waited inside to get the kabob. As im sitting down i witness them just staring at my husband. He then told them that he was waiting for the kabob. The cashier whom checked us out said "what kabob?". she literally took my order and checked us out and charged us for the cupcake and kabob. Im dumbfounded bc we were the only customers at the time, so how did they literally forget our order within seconds of ordering them...? Also, everything was out in the open and nothing was covered so there is a big possibility that most of their stuff is stale. Taste wise: the cupcake was crumbly and the kabob was nothing special. The cupcake tasted not only store bought but as if it was frozen and then thawed out. Great for the kids to see but not worth it! Before we went to the place, i looked at the reviews and there seems to be a common denominator for all the "good" 5 star reviews. You'll see what im talking about when you look through them. Thanks but no thanks. Way overrated.

Very cute but small place. Extremely packed and had to wait in a 40 min line. Definitely worth the wait though! Everything was so good and my kids loved it. Will be back.

My friend and I were super excited to try this place. So we went as soon as it opened during the soft opening weekend. We were unimpressed by the decor of the restaurant but we didn't let that stop us from trying the desserts. We both purchased the unicorn cake which the charges us 10 dollars each for. We were both disappointed because the cake was not good enough to cost anywhere near that much. But I let it go at the time. I never intended to leave a review but then today happened. As I was shopping at Walmart I saw the cake from magic unicorn bar. I checked the price and as you can see it's just shy 2 dollars. I AM LIVID! This place bamboozled me. I cannot believe that an establishment that brands itself as a dessert bar would pull the stunts of going to grocery stores and reselling it to customers. All they did as you can see is add plastic unicorn horns with extra icing which did NOTHING to improve the taste. Buyer beware. This place is scamming people out of their money in a desperate attempt to cash in on the unicorn craze.

Took my niece out for dessert and this place made my wife and I the favorite uncle and auntie. It's a little pricey but well worth it. Everything tasted and looked great. We had a little of just about everything.

I highly recommend this place if you have little girls or anyone who loves unicorns, the staff is very nice and even let me swap out one of my cupcakes for a different flavor, the unicorn lemonade with the cotton candy on top is amazing the cupcakes taste amazing and my 6 year old granddaughter loved the cake pop, we waited in line for and hour but it was worth all the wait I recommend going early and getting in line before they open, we loved this place and will return again, thank you for the great memories!
