21 Best Restaurants in Portland, OR | Condé Nast Traveler

"After Troy MacLarty closed the Southeast Portland outpost of Bollywood Theatre, his casual new Italian spot Maglia Rosa landed as a fantastic neighborhood restaurant that reflects his pedigree—burrata and prosciutto with pluot jam, corn fritters studded with kernels, pappardelle with duck ragu, and a crispy chicken al mattone with polenta and slow-cooked peppers—plus inventive desserts from pastry chef Mandy Groom and an adjacent market selling house-made ravioli and sauces." - Hannah Wallace

Really cool Italian market/bar that just opened up on Division. They had a great wine selection, which is 40% off if you are just buying the bottle, but also would love the chance to try their menu and dine in. A good assortment of high quality ingredients and pastas. Apparently they will have a deli section too. I was greeted so kindly when I entered, great vibe, looking forward to returning soon.

We just had lunch at Maglia Rosa and it was great. The house-made focaccia was delicious and the arancini some of the best that we've had since Sicily. Fresh beer on tap. An excellent outdoor space. A sweet little market for picking up things Italian. We'll be back.

I had to say I was very sad to see Bollywood go in the neighborhood bc it was one of my FAVORITES, but I was anxiously awaiting the arrival of Maglia Rosa since the same chef was reinventing the space. We finally had a chance to dine there Friday night with a bunch of girlfriends and it was DELICIOUS. We tried almost every salad on the menu (beet/avocado/cucumber, chopped salad, and the Raddichio, all were yummy, perfectly dressed, fresh ingredients. For the main I ordered the cavatelli with beef ragu, was the perfect balance of sweet and savory, the pasta was perfectly cooked. We shared the fresh corn fritelle (corn fritters) that came with the yummiest peach chutney which felt like a nice nod to Bollywood:) For dessert I had the sorbet of the day (peach, yum!). I can't wait to come back and try some other things, I've heard the crespelle fiorentina is a favorite. I will also be back for some quick to go meals that come in handy during the busy week, and they have a lovely wine selection. They even let you taste some wines when you order your dinner. It's a bit funky ordering at the counter but that was how Bollywood was before, and it actually works, and the staff took note when the line was getting long, to add another person taking orders. Once we were at our table, several different servers checked in on us regularly and we could order additional drinks and our dessert without standing back in line which was awesome. I also just love the vibe in side with nice lighting, tall ceilings and tables of various sizes depending on your group. They also great seating outside with a lovely patio and covered area with heat lamps. Great addition to the neighborhood.

From the minute we arrived, we were delighted! The outdoor seating is beautiful with shady plants and lights strung above, with heaters for the cooler days ahead! We were greeted warmly and quickly placed our orders before settling in at our covered patio table. Cold frosty drinks were delivered quickly and with a smile, followed shortly by food that was not just delicious - it is memorably good! Fluffy chewy focaccia and hearty perfectly seasoned minestrone did not disappoint. Even the side salads hit just right, but the star of the show was the Panino Bollito. Juicy, flavorful, melt-in-your-mouth braised beef on a perfect roll with an amazing, herby verde sauce and chili oil (which I could not get enough of) and accompanied by perfectly crispy housemade potato chips. I have dreamt of this sandwich. Can’t wait to get back for another! We also bought a lasagne to bake at home and will definitely do that again, too. Get to Maglia Rosa PDX pronto! You’ll start planning your return before you even leave!

Google
Excited to go for the hard opening! Fabulous decor and menu! Staff were attentive and on top of orders and banter. Lasagna and minestrone soup were superb! The only down side was not many options for vegetarians...lots of fresh ingredients so hopeful that will evolve.

Had a wonderful meal, sampling several dishes- the chicken, the filled pasta, and the lamb lasagna. Magnificent! Extensive bottled wine selection along with a very attentive and friendly staff in a warm, welcoming atmosphere means we will be back again and again. Oh - and the focaccia bread? Trust me, get two orders!

Google
Been there twice since they opened and both times was blown away. We tried most of the salads and main dishes and it’s hard to overstate just how good everything was. The staff was very friendly and I like how they changed the space from when it was Bollywood. Also after both my visits I picked up several items from the market which had a well curated selection of ingredients and premade items.

Google
I stopped by this place for lunch today and the staff was so friendly! You can tell just by reading the menu and restaurant info posted on their bulletin board that they take great pride in their service, their food/ingredients, and the customer experience. Their market was so cute and had a great selection, and the food is delicious and very obviously fresh. I appreciated that to-go options were easy too, since I don't always have time to sit down and eat out during the busy work day. I got a mortadella and burrata sandwich on soft, savory focaccia and then house made sweet corn panna cotta on the side. Absolutely delicious. :)

Yelp
We agree with some others that the model feels a bit odd to have candles and cloth napkins like a nice sit down restaurant but order at the counter. We and other behind us all missed the menus right inside the door. Then a wait person does come around to bring more water, take more drink orders or dessert. So finish off the atmosphere and let us sit down first and take our order. On to the food. The sugo was good but didn't have the depth of like Cibo but better than the last time I went to Three Doors Down. They explained why the pasta was softer than typical al dente because of the type of flour. It was nice they offered extra Parmesan and I would ask right away next time. I am very intrigued by the to go items too. My husband had the beef stew and it was good and with a nice rich sauce. They were very nice to substitute the mash for some more roasted veggies for him.

Yelp
Verdict: someone involved has good taste, but ultimately this place tries for a level of esteem unbefitting its odd choices in quality and dining experience Pros + arancini was decent + braised pork was quite good (albeit rustic to the point of betraying its immodest price) + a ton of space (though even Bollywood couldn't quite wield command of it, so we'll see) + a market offering that shows promise Cons - lamb lasagna that was so obviously and painfully over-(re)heated as to be burnt to a literal crisp; a solid 1/3 was inedible, w/o much to be admired in the remaining 2/3 - counter service that read as rather vacant, only to be affirmed by the sparing table service that followed (e.g., "servers" not knowing the wine menu), all coalescing in a bizarre dining experience that I shouldn't think will scale well

Yelp
Can't even lie, this braised beef sandwich has to be one of the best I've had in Portland. The bread was great and the beef was tender and flavorful. Fast service and cool looking space. I definitely want try more of their menu items.

Yelp
Great experience at Maglia Rosa! I had the panzanella salad which was super fresh, crisp, and well seasoned. The zucchini ravioli was also a winner, delicate thin pasta filled with creamy cheese and roasted zuchs- love! Lots of wine options and a cool market with take home goods. Lasagna is also delicious, super crispy edges and idk how they get so many layers packed in there. The ordering is a bit weird. It kind of disrupts the flow of a nice sit down dinner with friends if you all have to get back up and wait in line for another glass of wine, leaving your food at the table. Just isn't the best set up in my opinion. But the restaurant is beautiful and I'll definitely be back! Overall a solid spot. Ooh and last thing - they have an amazing patio!

Yelp
They just opened tonight - an amazing new addition to the neighborhood! They've done a great job transforming the old Bollywood spot. The patio is perfect for warm summer days, and the interior feels open and spacious. The gem salad was super refreshing, and all the pasta dishes were delicious. Service was excellent, and the staff was incredibly welcoming. We will be back!

Yelp
Amazing food; everything is so fresh and tastes incredible. Entire family loved it, we hit up the shop on the way out (lots of pastas, sauces, special ingredients, soups, etc). We've been back a few x, and I've sent friends/family there. Great addition to Portland

Yelp
Went to dinner with a couple of friends. The food was really nice, salads & mains. Ordered up at the counter and food was brought to our table. Service was prompt and friendly. The website needs a bit of work, menu at least, takeout orders. A casual friendly place. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Delicious Italian dishes at decent price. Awesome ambiance ... would appreciate a few more moderately priced wines but...

Judy T.

Yelp
I would never recommend this place to anyone! They were microwaving their lasagna and who knows what else. The fish was so overcooked and bland. Uncreative dull menu all around! There are so many better options in Portland, I'd never give this place the time of day again. The only decent aspect of this place was the wide range of wine available. If I want good Italian ingredients, I'd go to Providore, not this wannabe Italian restauran/market

Yelp
Just tried this new restaurant. Seems like they have worked out the kinks. Despite the counter service, all staff were attentive and present. The food was delicious and I'd go back.

Yelp
I was excited for a new Italian restaurant but i was disappointed with my experience at Maglia Rosa. I tried the grilled albacore and thought the fish could be fresher. Very high prices for counter service. I hope this business improves but I'm reluctant to come back.

Yelp
Fantastic food and service. I almost never leave reviews but we had such a wonderful experience. We came in late on a Saturday and had a great meal with super friendly service. It's counter service but you don't bus your own table, which felt like a dream in Portland. The market also seems like it has a bunch of great housemade items. Will definitely be coming back -- so happy they're in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Maglia Rosa is an amazing new restaurant. Highly recommend. All the appetizers and entrees were outstanding. Will definitely be back.
