Magnolia Bakery - Moynihan Train Hall

When in NYC, you have to stop at Magnolia! They are famous for their bread pudding, but everything else we tried was delicious too. We had the bread pudding, white out cake, carrot cake, everything ice box,m and apple crisp. Honestly, I can't say one was better than the other, they all were amazing. Highly recommend trying it out. The white out cake could have had a little more icing, but was still good.

We have heard of magnolia bakery, almost synonymously with Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, upper east side, times square, and Grand Central Park. And so I have to concede that I had put this off almost because I had prematurely, relegated it to one of those overrated places that were once great, but could not have possibly maintained their excellence. BOY was I wrong. The ladies who are working at this location were so overwhelmingly, kind and welcoming, and so passionate about what they were doing that I couldn’t help but smile. I asked what they would recommend and they got me really excited about so many items that became difficult to choose. And I actually really enjoyed that. But that means that since they had gotten me excited, I was now expecting something truly great. So we ordered one slice of cake, they world, famous banana pudding, their seasonal apple pudding, the seasonal pumpkin spice cheesecake, and they lime meringue tart. The execution on every single one of these items was genuinely phenomenal. I personally didn’t like the flavour of the apple one, but what I cannot fault it on is the execution. These guys have baking breading caking icing the whole shabang down to a science. I was really shocked to learn that magnolia bakery is not just something that was once iconic. It still is.

It's what they do, and they do it very well! So, if you go through Moynihan Trail Hall in NYC, you must. I've been twice, and both times I got the classic Banana Pudding. I had to behave, ordering only the small size. That was very difficult. The Red Velvet banana pudding ran out the first time I was there. Unfortunately, both times I went, the service was not the greatest. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't really good, either. On the whole, it's worth the stop if you are passing through!

Excellent assortment of desserts as always. Had a Hummingbird slice cake and the classic banana pudding at different times and matches the taste of the other stores. The only thing I would recommend is that you provide a level of quality assurance and oversight so that the staff at this location are as efficient and responsive as the Bleecker store --especially given the amount of traffic the place gets with its location!

Perfectly located in the busiest train station in New York. We bought a slice of the red velvet cake and brownies which were good. Price wise, it’s not cheap but comparable to nearby cafes serving cakes. Service wise, I gave it a two. The staff are almost expecting a tip, but hey, it’s a takeaway service and they literally just picked the product and hand it over for payment.

I had to try the famous banana pudding, and I can finally say it was glorious. I was a bit worried the banana flavor might be too strong, but it was perfectly balanced — sweet, creamy, and just the right amount of banana. Now I understand why it’s such a classic. I’ll definitely be having it again next time I’m in NYC!

Such a convenient location to grab some banana pudding when you're on the go. I like coming here when right before I take the train to the airport or when I just arrive in the city. Their banana pudding has been so consistent over the years and still my favorite dessert in NYC. The nilla wafers have a cake like texture and are not soggy at all. The whipped cream is super fluffy. Service is quick and the store is very clean. Can't really comment on the other dessert selections like cupcakes and such but maybe I'll try them one day. As a random fyi, I've tried to bring banana pudding on the plane and if you buy the medium size or up, TSA may flag you and try to take it away. I guess it's because of the whipped cream? Although it really depends, since most times I've had no problem bringing banana pudding through.

Bless this location for existing, so I can grab banana pudding to-go on the way out of the city. It's a smaller shop, but they run an efficient system of selecting your items and checking out. Can't wait to try to special banana pudding flavor: cookies and creme!

Love me some Magnolia Bakery. Located front and center in the train hall. They have a good selection of sweet treats. I love the banana pudding so creamy and smooth with enough cookies. With so many varieties it's so hard to choose. The sliced cakes and cupcakes are also very good. I always get a little something before taking a trip.

Absolutely one of my favorite places in the US to get banana pudding. It's one of my favorite sweet treats and it was perfect on a summer day. Make sure you know what you want as you get to the counter. Service was quick and there was not a place to sit down to enjoy it so we went across the street and sat by the steps. There's lots of food trucks around so you can get lunch or dinner near by too! Enjoy!

Came because of a friend's recommendation. Grateful for so many locations and it was nice to take a peace into the train station, since we probably wouldn't have otherwise. Felt like we needed to try the banana pudding since that seems like their big thing. We got the classic and it was tasty, but similar to what make from time to time at home. Curious about the specialty one next time. Service was quick, they kept the line moving. Ambiance is bright and clean. Definitely more of a to-go location, as there's no where to actually sit in the store.

We ordered a birthday cake for a co-worker and I was impressed by the service quality but didn't love the cake flavors. We ordered the chocolate funfetti cake a few days in advance and were able to promptly pick it up at the time they said it was ready. I think overall the service was great but I didn't love the flavors. The cake was very overly sweet and the icing wasn't as creamy as I had hoped. I also felt that the cake was a little dry. However, I feel like they did a great job with the decorations.

This location of the Magnolia Bakery chain is inside Penn Station's newest section, the Moynihan Train Hall. It is conveniently located on the main floor where you have to line up to board Amtrak trains. Though it is not a normal full service location, it is the perfect place to grab a pastry to go. Their signature cupcakes as well as the cake slices have already been prepackaged for people to grab and quickly go. I'd also recommend that you try their banana pudding. It is simply delicious and was not overly sweet either.

The story: Visiting Chelsea market for the infamous Los Tacos experience and realized how badly we wanted dessert after. Thankfully for us, Magnolia Bakery was a short walking distance away and in the direction we were headed. The experience: Best known for their banana pudding, we knew exactly what we would be trying. My husband and I both grabbed a cup from the refrigerator and waited in line to pay for our order. My husband couldn't help himself and insisted on trying one of their bakery items too. There are lots of options to choose from. The environment is small and takes you back in time. No modern restructured bakery - just a simple and charming bakery that has mastered its craft. That's what I liked most about it. On the menu: of course, the banana pudding. For our first visit this was a must. They also offer seasonal flavored pudding, a mix of pastries, cakes, and more. Isaac tried the red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting and thought it was delicious, soft, and sweet. The service: Server was friendly in helping us make a decision. They are quick and efficient which is needed for how busy they are. Overall impression: Loved every bit of it. I get so tired of seeing old businesses remodel and change to be more "modern". I want charm, I want storybook settings, I want TASTE - and that's exactly what Magnolia has kept at the forefront. You can even buy their banana pudding mix set to make at home. Might have to try that out soon.

This place is like crack in a small bowl. The banana pudding was ridiculously amazing and it only took me one bite to realize it. I got the banana pudding and the seasonal one which was the chocolate pretzel peanut butter banana pudding. The original banana pudding is really good. But I did feel like I wish they put more cream since there were a lot of wafer cookies in it. I got the small cup so maybe that's why. But I got the medium seasonal flavor and holy moly it was decadently divine. There was so much banana cream to each bite, the chocolate was creamy and perfectly sweet, and the pretzel added a textural element to the pudding. Personally, I think just having wafer cookies in the pudding would of been better. The pretzels weren't crunchy and it being soft didn't really hit it for me. But that being set aside, the whole thing was just SO good. Easy enough, this place is a must-try if you haven't had magnolia bakery. Highly recommend!

This little Magnolia Bakery inside the Amtrak Station is a perfect opportunity to grab something sweet before heading to your destination. While they are known for their banana pudding, I really love their ice box cakes and cookies. The shop is small and frequently crowded but the staff do a good job of keeping things moving, and packing things so they travel well.

This location is perfect to grab a dessert for the train ride back to wherever you came from. Grabbed a large banana pudding and dang, it was delicious. Large chunks of banana and nilla wafer in a thick creamy pudding. Perfect ending to my latest day trip. Cheaper than getting a dessert at a restaurant in the area. A large was great to split with my husband. I will probably be back here next time I take Amtrak to NYC. Highly recommend.

Put simply, I am not the biggest fan of bananas, so I was skeptical from the start. I recommend only going here if you really enjoy bananas, and more specifically really sweet cups of cream. Only then can you justify the $6 odd dollars you pay for a little cup of what is essentially buttercream, bananas, and nilla wafers. First of all, the buttercream--which actually had a very enjoyable, thick texture without feeling overly oily--was just too sweet for my taste, especially when paired with ripe bananas. I felt that the sweetness detracted from the natural sweetness of the fruit. Second of all, there were giant hunks of banana that weren't very evenly distributed. Not a fault, just a consideration. Third and finally, the bread (?) inside was like a homemade nilla wafer. It was sort of hard, but not crunchy, just sort of...dry. Like a day-old scone. Divisive opinion, I know, but I think it's just not worth the hype.

I've been going to Magnolia Bakery for years now. This location in Moynihan Train Hall is a true hidden gem. It is always less crowded than their Rockefeller Center location and there are usually no lines. It is so easy to pick up a treat prior to taking the Amtrak or the LIRR or the subway. It is clean and spacious. I usually always get their Chocolate Chunk Blondie and Magic Cookie Bar. Their chocolate chunk blondie is a blend of a brownie and a blondie. The magic cookie bar is full of coconut flavor. Both are delicious and a delight. Their Classic Banana Pudding is Magnolia's specialty and they have special flavors like Red Velvet Banana Pudding. The puddings are always tasting fresh and soft. There are 3 different sizes (small, medium, and large). Prices are affordable and the quality matches. Give it a try if you haven't done so already.

Great convenient location at Moynihan Train Station and definitely a way to avoid the long lines at the flagship tourist location. Staff is always friendly and service has always been quick for me when I am here especially since I know what I am am getting. Say it with me... Banana pudding! Yes, how can one not come here and not get Magnolia's banana pudding which comes in 3 sizes. Came to pick up 2 medium ones as birthday treats and a key lime bar for friends...how nice of me! So many other treats to choose from. The mini-cupcakes are good and a nice treat for parties. Monthly banana pudding flavor of the month....have tried a few of them but the original flavor is still the best. Til next time!

I got the seasonal flavor - pumpkin spice pudding. Very delicious, I probably should've gotten a bigger size at how fast I finished mine. Great customer service, the staff was very helpful and knowledgable about the products. She was able to answer all my inquiries about the storing and handling of the pudding for long travel times. Conveniently located inside the Moynihan Train Hall. It's nice to be able to grab a sweet treat before heading home.

We ordered the confetti & vanilla cupcakes. The confetti cupcake was a little too much sugar for my preference. The vanilla cupcake was soft, moist, & great flavor. I recommend the vanilla cupcake for those that don't prefer too much sweet. No indoor seating. Nice and helpful staff!

I got a small cup of classic banana pudding before I hopped on the train at Penn Station. It is one of most touristy desserts, which I heard mixed reviews before actually trying it out myself. I thought it would be sickly sweet but surprisingly it wasn't. The cake vs cream ratio was perfect: the sponge cake was moist and complemented well with the creamy banana custard. I'm a fan of anything banana so this is actually satisfying.

I got two banana puddings, I got the traditional one and then the pumpkin spice one as well! both were delicious! i also tried their magic bar which was amazing!! I honestly was expecting more from the pudding, however, still good. I would come back for sure! the service was super fast! no waiting at all! the ambiance was okay of it, there was no places to sit as it was in the grand central terminal!

Let me tell you... Everything about the banana pudding is perfect! During a search two years ago, I learned about Magnolia, and ever since then, I've wanted to visit. As luck would have it, I would encounter Magnolias while in New York. Even though there was a bit of a line, believe me when I say it was worth the wait! My friend got a little banana pudding, whereas I chose a medium. We both finished our containers in a matter of minutes; she finished hers in less than five minutes. She is a picky eater, so the fact that I caught her scraping the container says a lot in itself.  If you are ever in the NY area or even just passing through I recommend dropping by Magnolias. Be sure to order the banana pudding; trust me, when I say you won't forget it. P.S. They offer a selection of cakes, pies, cupcakes, and other sweets any sweet tooth fan will swoon over it!

Located inside Moynihan Train Hall. The shop is small, but has lots of goodies. The staff there were really nice. I got a delicious yellow cupcake with chocolate frosting. It was very good. They're know for the delicious banana pudding. I got a small one and it was pretty good!

best banana pudding I've ever had! Had high hopes as I've wanted to visit for years and Magnolia exceeded them. the wafers, the airy cream, the bananas, the pudding which had some warm spices in it (?) .. amazing and a must get. they also have a Flavor of the Month banana pudding which is fun. BF loved the mini key lie pie dessert but thought it could have used a thicker crust. The brownie was the perfect consistency/texture for my liking and very chocolatey, while the cookie was your standard choc. chip. Neither were anything to write home about but we didn't think they were a waste of money either!

Magnolia is a damn successful chain bakery for very good reason. You can always count on Magnolia for a decent sweet treat - none of their banana puddings (original and seasonal flavors) are a miss for me. For such mass production, it's moist, creamy, and flavorful each time. This time around, I picked up a key lime icebox, which is basically just key lime pie, and their seasonal peanut butter chocolate pretzel flavor. It's good and not too expensive for the portions received, no complaints!

Tried their reputed Classic (Banana) Pudding ($6.95 for medium cup). I asked if they had an ingredient list to check for allergens but they looked at me confused and said they didn't have one. I asked what was inside and the staff told me it's vanilla pudding mixed with whipped cream, vanilla wafers, and bananas. They also said it was good for ~3-4 hours without refrigeration, since I got this at the train station on my way back from NYC. It seemed to be exactly that - it's definitely more sweet than I'd normally go for in a dessert. I think they may add a powdered sugar-like sweetness to it. I appreciated the few large hunks of fresh real bananas because the rest of the very thick/dense whipped pudding with the wafers was sort of hard to continue eating. The wafers have a sort of soft-dry texture that is almost like eating day-old cookies. It's a shareable portion if you share with a friend.

Extremely overhyped. It's basically just a blend of whipped cream, wafers, and banana slices. For nearly $7 for a medium sized cup, it's very overpriced. I do like how it's not too sweet though. May be worth getting just to experience once as a tourist but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it.

Magnolia bakery has absolutely delicious banana chocolate cream pudding! The banana pudding is perfectly sweet with nilla wafers, chunks of ripe bananas, chocolate bits, chocolate fudge and whipped cream. Every bite is delicious and quite addicting. I highly recommend checking out magnolia bakery for their banana pudding and seasonal banana pudding flavors!

I stood in line for this... one of my favorite deserts in New York. I actually went on a hunt for any banana pudding and for me this is hands down the best.

Everyone hyped up this place. And they were RIGHT. Banana pudding was incredible. So fluffy and sweet but not too sweet. I wish the ambience was a little more conducive to hanging out nearby. Not many chairs. But great!

It's perfection! It's Magnolia! What to say that hasn't been said? Always fresh, greeted warmly, questions answered with patience. No seating at this location in Moynihan Food Hall/LIRR terminal. Other than that, grab a cupcake or brownie before heading out!

Tried the iconic banana pudding here. It's a bit on the sweet side, but I really loved the texture--there is softness from the banana and pudding, as well as a crunch from the cookies inside. A bit overhyped, but definitely a unique NYC treat.

This review is just for their banana pudding. It is out of this world, if you go, just order that, no reason to order anything else. 100% recommend.

Food: 3/5 The banana pudding tasted like unsweetened whipped cream with **browned bananas and the wafers were a bit more cakey than a normal wafer cookie. The peanut butter icebox bar was okay, but the crust didn't match the fluffy top. It was way too thick and hard. The peanut butter cookies were great, as well as the red velvet cheesecake, though! The only items that really redeemed this place for me were those two things, which left me disappointed due to all the hype surrounding this bakery. Service: 5/5 The staff were amazing and super helpful, no complaints there. They try to service you as quickly as possible, which is useful in a setting such as this, where you have people rushing in and crowding the store (Ambiance).

First time trying banana bread pudding and it was yummy. Creamy, soft, and airy texture almost like a combination of cake batter and whipped cream. 10/10 recommend for ppl visiting nyc

This review is more of a 3.5/5. Situated in the Moynihan Train Hall, I'm convinced the only thing worth getting is the banana pudding. This dessert is indeed delicious, super light, not too sweet, and a subtle banana flavor. It does feel like some of the other desserts aren't that great, though? In memory, I've had the Red Velvet Cake slice, which was a bit dry. More recently, I got to try a Salted Caramel Cookie and Red Velvet Banana Pudding cookie. The former was okay, but the latter was surprisingly bland. Most of the non-Banana Pudding desserts were misses for me, but I would be lying if I said the Banana Pudding wasn't very good. Maybe I'll try some cupcakes next time which are supposedly good as well?

This was our first stop off the train. We've been to other locations so we were excited. I got confetti cake and my partner got the red velvet. She said hers was good. Meanwhile my slice was rather dry. It did taste good tho.

Magnolia Bakery's sweets are truly delightful, with a wide array of options to please any palate. However, the special confetti banana pudding, while hyped, didn't quite live up to expectations. Despite that, it's still a go-to spot for delicious desserts that never disappoint. Magnolia Bakery remains a must-visit for a sweet treat in the city.

Omg so delicious!!!! This was my first time at Magnolias, I purchased the banana pudding and a piece of cheesecake and let me just say I will ride the train back to New York just for Magnolia Bakery. The employee that helped me was so nice, she gave me a bag of ice to keep my items cold since I was traveling. I has several slices of cheesecake while being in New York but this one topped them all!! I forgot to take the picture of what I ordered it was just so good once I took a bite lol. Definitely give it a try you won't be disappointed!

This has been on my list for a while now and I finally found a location that was part of my tourist route. This location is on the third floor of Hudson yards and if you go early in the day, there's no line and because it's a mall, there's plenty of indoor seating. The banana pudding was so delicious. It's thick and creamy but not too sweet. I like that it comes cold as well. The cookies aren't soggy either despite being in the pudding mixture. It's already pre packed in the tiny containers for the day so when you order it, they just hand it to you. If you need to try anything from magnolia, it's the banana pudding hands down. One of my favorites that I have had.

Overrated junkfood. My son in law -- who knows little about food -- surprised me & my daughter (his wife) -- who are gourmands -- by paying $88 to have two unjustly ballyhooed banana puddings & two of their 1990-trendsetting cupcakes shopped to us in Miami, based on his stumbling across the outdated, unwarranted, overblown reputation of NYC's Magnolia Bakery. Now he knows better than to make grand food decisions without consulting with one of us. The label on the front of the pudding container warns away anybody with meaningful food standards: "Naturally and ARTIFICIALLY Flavored". The ingredients label is a rogues gallery of cheap individual Food abominations including most gallingly: "pudding mix". Pudding mix? This legendary bakery cannot even make pudding without such a lazy and unnecessary crutch? And what are the ingredients of "pudding mix"? The label neglects to tell us. Yes, of course there's also artificial food coloring. Hashtag vomit emoji. And my son in law, who is happy to eat pudding made from a nondescript mix and food coloring as well, was disappointed! So defiling his body with this garbage didn't even put a smile on his face. Maybe Magnolia Bakery started as a genuine food producer, before its originators cashed out; maybe the private equity firm took it over recouped investment by replacing natural, respectable ingredients for the current long list of cheap chemical dross .

The place is very tiny! Okay! Okay!! I did 3 stars ONLY!! Because they are known for their banana pudding and after seeing the reviews of how "amazing" the pudding was Lool I'm sorry but the pudding on the banana pudding scale, came to a 5.5/6 out of 10. The freaking cheesecake though!!! THAT PECAN CHEESECAKE!!! BAY-BEE!! Yeeeessss!! All day!! Everyday! If I were willing to gain 50lbs, yes lawd! Bring it to me!! The pecan cheesecake is easily a 10/10. The pudding though. While nicely subtle in flavor which is what I believe everyone is loving, it definitely still lacks that banana pudding UMPH! The wafers add a tiny bit more kick to that sweetness(just a tiny bit) and I love that there were actually bananas in it. The filling though. Hmmm... too whippy, it lacked viscosity. I am judging this against southern banana pudding(OG banana pudding). For the not so melanated peeps and the people who love not so sugary things and haven't had OG banana pudding, yes! You will def love this. But if you're used to that southern, BAM, hit you in your taste buds, you know what time it is, yo momma helped yo grandma in the kitchen with all the food, banana pudding then you might not like it but I'd still say try it out.

I love Magnolia's!! Their original banana pudding is to die for. They also do monthly special flavors now and I've tried raspberry cheesecake and red velvet, both of which are delicious as well. The recipe can be found online for their original pudding - I've made it multiple times now for various events and it is always a hit! The recipe literally contains bananas, pudding mix, Nilla wafers, condensed milk, and water. It seems overpriced now, knowing how simple it is to make but I still always stop by when I visit NY!

This is my first time at Magnolia Bakery after hearing a lot about its hype and I loved it! Experience 5/5 There was a short line when we arrived but service was quick and attentive. I enjoyed the clean design of the entire store, despite being on the smaller side. The cake displays were set up very nicely and everything looked super delicious. Food 5/5 We ordered the classic Banana Pudding and it was delicious! We came in with no expectations and it was the perfect afternoon snack. It was a perfect blend of vanilla pudding, vanilla wafers, and banana pieces. It was a little too sweet but great for sharing. I haven't had anything like this before at a shop, so it was a pleasant surprise!

It's all in the delicious icing and the low price for six sweet cupcakes plus two caramel and sea salt cookies and banana pudding, all boxed and bagged up nicely. Service is easy and quick when the lines aren't too long. Plus the usual coffee drinks--although there are plenty of other coffee places to explore further at Moynihan Train Hall. Truth is: there's not much more critique to add to a quality 'cake!

Can't come to NYC and not get some banana cream pudding!!! Magnolia Bakery is a well ordered machine. They do have a line that lines up outside and there are turns for coming in the establishment when it is busy. The employees are friendly and that banana cream pudding is the star of the show!

I was spending the day in the city with some friends and we had a taste for some banana pudding. We were recommended to come here. The Banana Pudding is beyond delicious!!!

Been here quite a lot of times, almost never disappoints! Staff are super friendly and the bakery items are delicious (especially the brownies.) its a really nice cozy small shop in Moynihan train hall, in-front of tracks 5/6 and next to tracks 7/8. Quite a-lot of options and the coffee is well prepared. I'd say it's a awesome bakery except some things are a little overpriced

Nothing to say but yum ! Banana Pudding was on point and the children enjoyed the cakes.

Whenever I take Amtrak out of Penn Station this place is a must visit! I have yet to have a dessert that I didn't like! As soon as you walk in you are greeted by the smells of delectable, delightful yummy cookies and cakes. A groovy perk? Every month they promote a unique take on their classic banana pudding. Last month it was cookies and cream, this month it was carrot cake. What?! You read that right- carrot cake bread pudding. And yet to say that it was a pure master piece melting in my mouth does not even do the brand justice. It's a jewel for sure! And don't even get me started on the red velvet cupcakes. We inhaled them so quickly I forgot to take a pick. My sincere apologies Yelpers!
