"In the second year of my Communication major, I panicked about graduating without any “tangible” skills and did what every college student does to make themselves feel marketable: I picked up a Business minor. That ended up being almost a complete waste of time, but I did add a few business-y phrases to my repertoire that I pull out in casual conversation to seem very smart. One of them is this: “You can’t be all things to all people.” Magnolia Cafe, however, is the restaurant that proves that saying dead wrong. It’s actually everything that everyone needs it to be—no matter if you’re 12 or 60, coming in at 8am or 8pm, craving queso or a vegetable plate. Magnolia isn’t just a place you come for drunk pancake binges (though you can always count on it for that). The menu is huge, and everything is fresh and consistently tastes exactly like you want it to. Looking for something healthy? You got it. Have a sudden need for migas at 9pm on a weeknight? Breakfast is served all day. Want a proper dinner, with an entree and sides? You can have that, or pasta, or your pick of seven burgers. We could go on, but the point here is that it’s impossible to not be “in the mood” for Magnolia—that’s basically like saying you’re not in the mood to eat. Which is obviously never the case. So whether you’re rolling up by yourself for a quick solo meal, with a big group of friends after a night out, on a casual First/Early in the game date, or desperately hungover—we’re here to remind you that there’s no situation that won’t be greatly improved by these tacos and pancakes, or migas and Mag Mud, or any other order here. We miss the original location on Lake Austin Boulevard, but the remaining South Congress outpost has proven just as reliable. I may not have many tangible skills, but I know enough to tell you that there is nothing else like Magnolia Cafe. Food Rundown Breakfast Tacos All excellent, but our move is always bacon egg and cheese, add avocado. photo credit: Magnolia Cafe Love Migas Maybe the best migas in town. Jury’s still out on why “love butter” (with fresh garlic and serrano) hasn’t replaced regular butter altogether. The Eggscape If you’re so hungry you wish you could dive into a pile of food, the Eggscape is your order: a literal mountain of potatoes and sausage, with eggs and cheese on top. photo credit: Magnolia Cafe Pancakes In the great Kerbey Lane vs. Magnolia pancake debate, we’re strongly on Team Magnolia. These are the perfect, thin-but-not-too-thin consistency, and if you don’t add chocolate chips there may be something wrong with you. photo credit: Magnolia Cafe Mag Mud It doesn’t get better than this. Queso, black beans, lots of avocado, and pico. The answer is always yes. Cheeseburger Should you come to Magnolia craving a cheeseburger, it’ll do you well. Plus, the wheat bun always helps us pretend it’s healthier than a normal cheeseburger." - Katherine Lewin

Ok so the prices are a little higher than their online prices but understandable because of the recent economy. I will say service is top notch friendly and very professional. The amount of food is perfect! Not over packed making you waist food or take home left overs. The only 1 complaint I do have was I ordered my steak medium and unfortunately it was well done almost a bit burnt but A1 sauce had me coverd lol. It’s worth every penny for a family of 4 we paid $62 that’s including tip. I included some pictures for reference.

Ordered French Toast . The worst one I ever had! No taste or flavor at all. What a waste of $17.00 and severs with melted whipped cream and frozen blueberries. Will not recommend anyone to go there . It is for seniors but expensive! had to force myself to eat small piece of it. for the cook Whip eggs add enough sugar add milk and a good spoon ovf vanilla! soak bread and fry in good butter. then they will be worth eating!

I am so happy to have found this place!!! My friend and I wanted to get breakfast on a Sunday morning and found this charming diner that conveniently opens at 7 AM. It doesn't look like much on the outside, but once you step in, it feels like you're instantly being transported back in time. Right off the bat, I loved the atmosphere of the place. Rainbow Christmas lights, cozy tan booths, and genuine and warm staff -- I felt like I was a character in a 90's movie. Tatiana, our waitress, was friendly, sweet, and efficient. A man named Carlos also approached our table and asked if we needed anything. I could tell from the relaxed vibe of the restaurant and the cheerful demeanor of the staff that the people that work here are authentically happy, which was so heartwarming to see. I ordered the Italian omelette with salad ($1 upcharge) and buttered wheat bread and my friend ordered the San Francisco breakfast option with a biscuit with gravy, plus coffee. We were pleasantly surprised by how soft and fluffy the biscuits were (not dense or hard) and impressed by how good they tasted with the thick, yet light-tasting gravy. My friend said my omelette tasted like chicken parmigiana ("It's delicious!" is what the description on the menu said). I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone for its comfortable vibes and wonderfully caring and attentive staff! :)

Went for Mother’s Day, no wait, 4 people, everything was great. Food was very good everyone enjoyed their food and tried each others. Nothing was bland or undercooked. Thank you to our waitress, Nicole, for a great experience :) sorry those other ladies were so rude to you, maybe they need a drink.

Google
Stopped by for the first time today and very happy we did. The cafe has a nice atmosphere, the waitress and busboy were very pleasant and attentive. No waiting for drink refills and always checking up on us. Food was excellent and very reasonably priced. Highly recommend this cafe and will definitely come again the next time we're in the area.

Google
I have been going to Magnolia Cafe for many years. It's the same good food and friendly servers with numerous specials on the cards on the table. I moved away from the area seven years ago, so now when I visit, I have an extra special appreciation for this coffee shop. It seems that old fashioned comfort food, table service, and reasonable prices have all but disappeared in this area. But not at Magnolia Cafe. Have a seat at a comfy booth, relax, get some friendly service, some good food, at extremely reasonable prices! Thanks everyone, for treating us so well all these years!

Google
On their website it says $10.95 for a breakfast skillet under the menu bar. When I ordered my total was $61 for 3 skillets. I asked what was the total of each because on the site it says different. The guy said 18.95 I was in shock also because a picture on the reviews from 3 months ago says 17.95. crazy !! Update your site please

I love this small town diner feel. We got to sit at the counter where the action was. The food was hot, fresh and delicious. Good deal for the price. The breakfast specials and lunch specials are worth coming for.

Yelp
The fried chicken is great. If you're going to order it, let them know when you walk in the door, it's made to order and it takes 20 minutes! The service is great, everyone is family. It's an old time diner right down to the music.

Harrison T.

Yelp
Classic American diner here with friendly staff and decent comfort food! Coming into Magnolia Café feels like traveling back in time to another era where things were much simpler and you get a homey feeling. You do see more of an older clientele coming in but it adds to the overall casualness of this diner spot. I came by for dinner recently and ordered the chicken fried steak and it was decent. I got a side of mashed potatoes and vegetable soup and it came with a side of garlic toast and some steamed vegetables. It was an overall okay meal and I got some ice cream for dessert since I got one of the daily specials and did hit the spot at the end of my meal. Overall, it's an old-school cafe and the staff are friendly and charming and this is a decent spot to stop by if you are craving for some classic American food.

Yelp
Since it's close by, I wanted to like it. But it was just very average for breakfast. Gravy on the biscuits was very bland and I couldn't finish them. Eggs were a bit cold when served. Staff was very friendly tho.

Ruthie G.

Yelp
Wonderful experience! Great food and prices were very reasonable. Wait staff so accommodating. Our waitress, Michelle, went out of her way to make us comfortable, and at home. Will definitely come back when we are back in Southern California. PS: My BIL said the tile in the restroom was beautiful. Just saying...

Yelp
Hungry for some real comfort food and where to go? We've had great meals at Magnolia Cafe, and it's been several months since we were there. It didn't take long for me to decide that the fried chicken dinner is what I want. Thus, I placed my order, and a fresh salad and corn bread came out first. The fried chicken would take a while. The lovely missus has two eggs and bacon and fluffy pancakes. I have to admit that the breakfast she has on the table looked really good. I wish I could say the same for the fried chicken. One bite into the drumstick, and it was evident that it needed more time to cook. So, back to the kitchen, my chicken went. Apologies all around, but the chicken was returned refried, and now it is beyond the juicy morsels I had experienced from visits before. No more fried chicken for me if this new cook can't do it. No more Magnolia Cafe for me as today the fried chicken and the subsequent customer service were below par. Too bad because Magnolia Cafe was one of our favorites. Only the pancake leftovers we brought home can help and give a second chance to restore my wanting to continue having meals at Magnolia Cafe. Was not having any background classic rock oldies an omen?

Bob D.

Yelp
Outstanding little cafe for "Midwest Comfort Food"! Great food and service. Daily specials for every meal

Yelp
If I can give this place a zero, I would. I came here with my husband and had breakfast. Service was fine as usual. But when my cup of coffee came out, I noticed a pink residue on my cup. This pink residue turned out to be from the previous users lipstick stain. I quickly advised the waiter of this incident and you know what the waiter had the audacity to do?! They took it, wiped it with their napkin and gave the cup back to me to drink out of. This is just ridiculous. My husband and I quickly left after they claimed they'd pay for my food. I'm sorry, I'm not one to be confrontational but this is a HUGE No No. Who does this?! Would you want to drink out of a cup where the lipstick stain was still stained from the previous user? Ha! No thanks. Magnolia cafe y'all need to do better. But I'm good I'm never coming back to this place. Just wanted to make sure other customers were aware of their poor service

Yelp
Went there for the first time this week with my wife, I had the Monty Cristo sandwich and my wife had the salmon. Food and service was decent and would probably go back for at least a second try. Now for the bad, they had music playing on the house speakers which was fine, except someone in the kitchen had a radio blaring with some really obnoxious stuff on it. Very distracting. Kind of like trying to have a serious conversation with someone while the voices in my head were yelling at me.

Shannon C.

Yelp
This is one of the rare few places I can get a Monte Cristo sandwich. It is so good!!! Their honey mustard dressing is homemade and is delicious. The service is over the top friendly. I have been coming here for over 30 years and love it !!

Xochil S.

Yelp
Food is decent prices are good. Staff is always super friendly. I like going there for the portions and good deals. They play old rock and roll music that I enjoy. It's a nice place to take the parents.

David D.

Yelp
I come here at least once a week. Service is great and the food is always fresh and delicious. Delightfully savory and perfectly balanced, the Reuben sandwich is a true classic. Tender corned beef, tangy sauerkraut, and creamy Swiss cheese nestled between toasted rye bread create a mouthwatering experience that's simply irresistible. I truly LOVE Magnolia Cafe. Highly highly recommended!

Yelp
This place has been around forever. I have eaten here just 2-3 times. As much as I want to love it here.. I remember why I don't. I think they are good for breakfast, but that's maybe all? The setting is really a traditional diner. Everything is original, including the furniture and carpet (so it seems). The food quality is really mediocre. Almost everything lacks seasoning and the food will come out to you Luke warm. This time I ordered the steak sandwich and French dip sandwich. The steak sandwich bread to steak ratio was way off.. the French dip sandwich was pretty sad (no cheese or anything) and included a couple pieces of dry meat on a bulky dry roll. The bread was super dry and the meat portion was very little. The prices here aren't a super bargain so it's hard to give them a notch or two above other restaurants/diners in the area. Quality here just isn't there... Tip: The kids burger and adult burger and fries are the same size btw but kids burger is cheaper by a few bucks. Chicken strips for kids only includes 2 smaller sized strips so order accordingly. I'm always a fan of support local. But I do feel that the trade off should be support for satisfaction from taste, value and service.

Tim T.

Yelp
I've passed by this restaurant for years but never tried it until today. I enjoyed the Friday special steak and eggs - it was delicious at just $12. The waitress was both quick and friendly. I've noticed most of the customers are regular.

Gene N.

Yelp
We went to Magnolia Cafe for breakfast and were able to be seated quickly. The waitress was remarkable. Kind, energetic and knew the menu. The food was out within 10 minutes of our order. It was very good. Highly recommend if you like old style diners.

Anners C.

Yelp
A very casual, café / diner restaurant. The menu selection has not changed since the 90s probably (as I have visited back then), so the menu photos that date back 4-5 years are still the same. I have added the kids "Young Ladies & Gentlemen" menu as I always appreciate it when my first grader can look and choose something just for them. Quality is okay; we ordered liver & onions, roast beef melt, Italian omelette, kids spaghetti, and kids grilled cheese (cheese was not melted - only issue). We will return for the occasional diner vibe - quite nice especially after church.

Joel G.

Yelp
Been coming here for years and always loved the food, good home style comfort food. The prices are good and they always have daily specials. Plenty of parking.

Cindy J.

Yelp
Had the New York Steak and eggs. It was cooked the way I liked it. They give plenty of food here. My husband got the Meat Skillet with kielbasa sausage. It was very tasty and a huge portion. Also was happy to see they didn't charge extra for egg whites. He also got the liver and onions sunset dinner, which is served between 3pm &6pm daily and comes with a salad or soup, choice of potato, garlic toast, and dessert. The food was delicious and the diner plays 50's music and has a 70's decor. Regular customers keep coming in and the staff greets them by name. We will definitely return. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Can't wait to come back.

Kevin P.

Yelp
Well I've had to listen to my wife for the last 2 hours complain about the decline of this establishment. It all started with she walked in the door and said I hope the dinner roll isn't Is an indication that the meal is going to be bad. How do you screw up a dinner roll. Then she opened the vegetable soup said it just tasted nothing but cabbage. Then she got to the pot roast and and just said you can feed it to the dogs she will not finish eating it. I'm looking at the vegetable soup right now and it looks like a grease cup with vegetables in it. I liked the liver and onions the last time we were there. Oh well In the words of Freddie Mercury, Another One Bites The Dust!!!

Sam W.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting Magnolia Café... Feels like a 50's diner so to speak. The service was great. Waitress was friendly and food came out quickly. I had the Farmer's breakfast. My hash browns weren't cooked quite enough. I asked for eggs over medium they were over easy. Bacon was phenomenal and sausage good. Came with and English muffin which was warm and buttery. My wife had the Magnolia omelette which had broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms, onions, and tomatoes. She said it was delicious. It came with country potatoes that didn't have much flavor. She commented that if there were onions they would have been better. Prices were a bit high but so is everything these days. We will definitely be coming back.

Monica A.

Yelp
The food isn't the fanciest but it tastes good, the service is quick and friendly, and the food is cheap! Cant complain!

Isaac G.

Yelp
Ok.... Let me start by saying I am a chef at a 5 Star Reviewed restaurant in the HB area. That said, I'm not stuck up or an elitist. I still love Micky D's or Del.... This place is EXACTLY like a retirement home cafeteria. If you've ever visited your gran in a retirement living facility you will understand. Saying that, that's not immediately a negative. Have you ever driven through Nebraska and said to yourself, "Man... I sure could use some home style cookin!?!" That's what you'll get here... Staff is elderly. Chef's, elderly. Patron's....? All elderly. I had to help an old dude in the front door. Again, not exactly a negative. This place is not hip. This place is not with the times. This place is not youth-friendly. It seems to cater to a certain demographic; Older. The servers; 70+. The chefs; 70+. This place is VERY clean!!! I've been to "hipper" places that were dirty and disgusting. I couldn't see a speck of dust... Believe me, I wanted to. The menu offers Liver and Onions.... That should tell you something. While we're on the subject of food.... I ordered the chicken fried steak and cornbread. It came with frozen veggies, rice and a pretty yummy cornbread. Since it was on special it came with a free couple scoops of ice cream. I chose chocolate. Chicken fried steak was hot and the gravy was ok, but definitely not homemade. Rice tasted ok but had an oldish odor. Didn't eat the veggie because I don't do frozen vegetables, here or anywhere. The cornbread was fluffy and soft, I ate it all. The staff was VERY conscientious and nice. I have ZERO complaints with the staff, in fact I think I tipped 40% because the lady was so sweet. This place has been here forever and if you want a certain older vibe, go for it! You will get polite service and cafeteria food. I have heard they do a great breakfast.... I might try that soon. Thank you to the 4/19/23 PM staff and servers... you all did a great job!!!

Iris I.

Yelp
Horrible place Worst food I've ever had. Not to mention the hair I found in my food. I was so disgusted. I told the waitress about the hair I found in my food the moment I received it. She took it back and said they would make a new plate for me. But they did not. Instead they removed the hair from my plate and gave it right back to me.... you would think after the horrible experience they would not charge me for my meal but they still did. I had to pay for the full amount of the meal. I would not recommend this place at all.

Erika M.

Yelp
Old school American cafe. Excellent food and service. Have returned and it's still good

Journey W.

Yelp
Been here many times over the years and it never disappoints! Amazing staff, scrumptious breakfast and the old diner feel makes this place a must visit. Kristi served us with a smile and got us seated right away! Love this place will be back.

Lindie F.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch and was not disappointed. They have daily specials and dinner . Breakfast served all day! My meal was fine and almost like a home cooked meal. Fast service, cordial staff and reasonable prices... nice place to relax a bit and chat and have coffee or a beer! Close to freeway and plenty parking!

Diana N.

Yelp
Back at my favorite. No lines, parking galore and close to home. Served quickly and no waiting. Love the 50s music reminds me of my Dad . Big variety and this time I tried the patty melt with grilled onions. No disappointment it was perfect.

Joe P.

Yelp
I've driven by Magnolia Cafe on Mag & Warner in FV for years, but never stopped in until now. They offer a number of bfast specials from 6 am to 11:30 am at $8.29 (steak & eggs) and less. I ordered the cheese omelette ($6.89 | inc hash browns & toast). The omelette was okay. It was good sized, but the cheese wasn't melted. Secondarily, the hash browns were crispy as requested. Lastly, the toast was cold: 3-4-2. Regarding the ambiance, its a typical cafe w/ counter seating and tables of two and four. I believe they also serve beer and wine: 3 Stars. On the other hand, the service is friendly and quick. You feel at home here. MC has better priced bfast specials vs the chains. Despite the miscues, I'd come back for the chicken fried steak & eggs on a cheat day.

Terrance P.

Yelp
I love these mom and pop places. Breakfast is breakfast and I'm not looking for flare and don't want to pay for it as well. It's just eggs. They seem to have a lot of regulars and know each by name. The service is excellent and very attentive. Good place to have a cup of coffee and talk. It's not crazy busy with lines of people waiting to get in. Great if you're on the go. I'd pick this place over a Denny's or Norms anyway. They don't rush you but rather keep your coffee mug fill d. So sit back and relax.

John S.

Yelp
Fantastic place for breakfast!! From the eggs, to the grits, to the thick cut bacon. Everything to good! I get the Farmer's Breakfast. It comes with three eggs, three bacon, three sausage, grits or hash browns, and toast or biscuits and gravy. Lots of food for the price. They also serve dinner which is also good. Highly recommend!!!

Daphne L.

Yelp
We love diners and this place is wonderful! The food is typical diner food, the staff are really friendly, and the food is pretty reasonably priced! I got the Magnolia Light Lunch and it included a nice soup, half a sandwich, and a slice of watermelon. It was perfect! My husband got the steak sandwich and it was good. We definitely would be back to try out more things!

Ludin J.

Yelp
Slow service even though it's not crowded. Could barely hear our waitress who was super soft spoken. I ordered the waffle and paid the extra dollar to add strawberries. Unfortunately, the menu failed to say they were glazed strawberries and not fresh strawberries. I strongly dislike glazed strawberries and thought it tasted nasty. I'm not one to complain so I put them to the side and ate my waffle anyways. Midway through eating my waffle, I found a dark (black) curly hair on my waffle. Again, I hate complaining and just put it to the side. I figured that this was something that could happen anywhere. Now, I thought I was super smart because I had also ordered some oatmeal. My oatmeal came with milk, brown sugar, and raisins. The raisins didn't look very good so I just didn't put them in my oatmeal. The oatmeal didn't taste very good but I was eating it anyways because I was hungry. Then, I saw it. A black looking thing that I knew could not be a raisin because I had not put them in my oatmeal... I looked closer and asked my brother what it was. He was able to confirm that it was indeed some type of bug. I was disgusted and let the waitress know. She felt really bad but in that moment I knew I'd never be back.

R S.

Yelp
We've been going to Magnolia Cafe for years. My personal favorite is their pot roast. The roast is always so tender, and the meal comes with desert. The employees are always so warm and friendly. I look forward to seeing them almost as much as I look forward to my desert!

Susette B.

Yelp
We went to Magnolia Cafe today and sadly it was not good. They were very busy and I understand things will take a bit longer. But what I don't get is taking 40 minutes to take our order. When our food finally did arrive my taco salad had a fishy smell to it. The salad was tasteless. Not sure if we will be going back

L C.

Yelp
Here this afternoon. Super casual and friendly with all older adults. Had a taco salad which is huge and everything very fresh. Super good iced tea.

Elaine B.

Yelp
Wonderful place to eat. I love their food. I eat here all the time. Wonderful owner, servers. and people.

Tom H.

Yelp
Last time I was here I only gave this place a 2 Star review, I was honest in what I shared and ended back up here last night for dinner first time since that review. 5 Stars this time, not based on food as the flavor and portion size are good, not great, but the nice ladies both serving last night were super sweet and perfect on service skills, so it deserved an updated review and 5 Stars. Had Sirloin Tips over Noodles, came with bread and side veggies, salad was first along with a soft drink. This was the written on the board special last night at only $11.25 and soft drink at $2.99, came out to around $15 and left the $20 and walked out happy I tried this place again.

MaleiaMakesCoffee B.

Yelp
Nice environment, great prices on the menu items, pleasant people working here, it's a very nice to sit down and enjoy your meal.

Alex L.

Yelp
Restaurant was pretty good. It's an older diner so it's comparable to other diners/cafe. The prices are fair and food was good. The dishes range from $10 to about $17. The waitress older but very kind and friendly. The portions were large. My son loved the hamburger and the Reuben was good.

Mark P.

Yelp
Best people and best service and best food. Highly recommend restaurant to go and get a great meal and great conversation. The waitresses are the sweetest. And the fasted ready and tastiest food !!!!! AWESOME!!!!

Jorge A.

Yelp
It's very nice and cozy restaurant. The waitresses are kind and pleasant to speak with and always attentive. The food is delicious and great. My kids love this place and we been coming here more frequently because of their hospitality and their delicious food.

Hanna W.

Yelp
I LOVE this diner! It feels like you go back in time when you walk in (in the best way possible)! The prices are fair and the food is DELICIOUS! Went on a Wednesday morning and it definitely seemed busier than usual but the service was still amazing! Looking forward to returning soon!

Alec B.

Yelp
A great classic cafe.. I love places like this.. surprised it was my first time here... the ice tea tasted great.. the patty melt was perfect.. fries were hot and good.. my girlfriend had the breakfast bacon eggs and grits.. everything was great and the service was great too!! Will be back many times!!

Tony M.

Yelp
Service was horrible. We waited almost 30 mins for our order and ended up leaving after watching 2 other customers who came in after us get their orders. When asked what's the delay, server stated the corn beef hash that I ordered takes longer to cook, but I've ordered the same thing every time I've came and it NEVER took that long to get my order.

Lance N.

Yelp
This place has been around for years and I have never been here until tonight with my folks. Although it seems the place is filled with its regulars, it made it seem that much more cozy. It isn't a large diner, but there were a number of seats available. The food was pretty good and seemed very much like comfort food. I wouldn't call it gourmet, but I would say the Fish and Chips were better than London's. The potato soup was pretty tasty too. I wish I had honey for the corn bread, but over all that was a bit mild. I was hoping for more corn flavor, and a little less dry. Either way, I would go back to try other dishes, and the service was excellent. Enjoy

Bruce S.

Yelp
Great diner with friendly staff and well priced specials for breakfast lunch and dinner. I'm often there for the breakfast specials but really like the California omelette. It's so nice to find a easy place to eat out that has great food and isn't a chain.

Brandi J.

Yelp
My husband and I just left and this diner is a gem!! Our server was Kristy and she most definitely runs the show. Very happy and pleasant to have dined with. I had the stuffed croissant which was huge btw my husband had the sirloin special. The only negative was our side of French toast it didn't have too much flavor but whatever we'll jusy try waffles next time lol.

Melinda W.

Yelp
Love their breakfast and lunch specials. Great prices!! Always friendly service. Practicing Covid restrictions with outside dining and to go orders.

P L.

Yelp
We have been driving by this cafe for several years and have never stopped before. During the pandemic, they were seating outside in the parking lot so we decided to give it a try. We went for lunch, and it was not too crowded but pretty steady. The servers were super friendly and very attentive. I drink a lot of iced tea and my glass was never empty before they were bringing me a replacement. Our sandwiches were really good, filled with meat and the bread was fresh. It may sound like a little thing but we tried somewhere else recently and the bread was hard like it was sitting out too long. For a bread lover, that's an important thing for me! The food was fresh and tasty, and not expensive at all. If you are looking for a local cafe that is family owned, give it a try! You won't be disappointed.
