The 14 Essential Hotel Bars in DFW

"The sprawling Hotel Vin in Grapevine has a lot going for it. With a massive on-site restaurant and a food hall attached, and its location an easy stroll away from the town’s main street with oodles of restaurants and bars, there is no end of entertainment. But those in the know will know to ask the concierge to make them an appointment at the hotel’s speakeasy through a hidden telephone booth. It’s open Thursday to Saturday from 5 p.m. to midnight and reservations are strongly recommended." - Courtney E. Smith, Rachel Pinn

Small speakeasy with amazing cocktails! Love the artwork in the lobby! Reservations are highly recommended! Need a special code or someone to open the door for you with the secret code. “Do you feel lucky? Well do you?” Go see the hostess in the hotel vin restaurant and ask to be admitted. The decor and atmosphere are awesome and the mixologists as fast and friendly!

Great place with amazing drinks and bartenders. You have to make reservations to get into this place. You also have to leave a deposit to make the reservation and the place is so small you may have to wait some weeks before you are able to get there on a Saturday evening. However, the place is worth it. The atmosphere, the drinks, the wait, it all complements perfectly for a an amazing night out.

Google
Excellent Speakeasy. We visited on a Saturday night. Our server, Ben, was very attentive and gave us recommendations on drinks. Our bartender, Daniel, made some killer drinks. The vibe is very 1920s with jazz/lounge music. My wife and I enjoyed the gold fashioned, Aphrodite, Dealer's Choice and Espresso Martini 🍸

Google
Tldr cocktails... If you like em, read on, otherwise, look elsewhere. Here's the thing, speakeasy is a cocktail culture. If you like neat spirits, you may find things in ANY speakeasy that works, but the main thing is the bartenders are booze whisperers. You speak in broken English what you do or don't like and they will make the most amazing cocktail for you. If you think you like cocktails but aren't sure, just dive in and open up to your bartender. They will help you. Yes, the drinks are more expensive, but at max they allow is 14. So if you LOVE cocktails AND intimate settings, this is the place for you.

Really enjoyed celebrating a friend’s birthday here. Just a few things to know going in: 1) it is a very intimate (small) place, but in all the good ways. Since it is reservations only, your where they seat you is pretty much your assigned seating. 2) the drink menu is set, but great. Our bartender was great and we had a great time.

Google
This was a great friend's birthday starter. Brian and Daniel were awesome! We started with some menu cocktails, but moved to some specialities recommended by our expert mixologists..The Aphrodites Kiss was AmaZing!!

Yelp
You need to make a reservation and try this place rightaway! All the drinks we tried on the menu were great! The ones recommended to us based on our taste of preference were also amazing! They even provide chocolates with a few drinks. Its a nice, small place with a good vibe. Service was great!

Yelp
Six of us had a great time. Easy, laid back atmosphere and the drinks were made by professionals! Daniel and Daniel know what they are doing, the "Gold Fashioned" was perfect and my wife enjoyed Daniel's interpretation of a lemon drop martini. The only thing I would suggest is place a sign on the secret door that everyone knocks on to see inside to not knock on the door! It seemed like a real speakeasy and the cops were trying to get in.

Yelp
Pretty fun and interesting bar. Nice ambience. Both bartenders were super attentive and genuinely nice... provided suggestions and highlighted certain ingredients and liquors to consider. Clientele was nice and respectful. Be sure to reserve your spot before showing up.

Yelp
An amazing secret speakeasy! You need to make a reservation. To enter check in with the concierge and they will walk you to the phone booth with a code to enter. Make sure you eat before you go, it's drinks only. Very fancy delicious cocktails! Very cozy and such a fab place. Perfect date night!

Yelp
Another vibe-y cocktail bar that is trying a bit too hard to be a 'speakeasy'. If you saw this bar on social media, then you probably saw some influencer get to the bar via a telephone booth where they pick up the phone to get in. However, that is not how it works. You have to check in at the host stand and from there, the host/hostesss will take you to the bar, lol. These instructions were not made clear anywhere. As I walked in, I noticed that the bar is quaint and intimate. It feels like your standard speakeasy/cocktail lounge with its dark interior, dim lighting, chandelier lights and leather (or velvet) couches. The menu has a limited selection of signature cocktails starting at $18 which I find very pricey. That is the same price I pay for some of the top bars in NYC such as Double Chicken Please and Angel Share. If I am paying NYC level pricing for cocktails, I expect it to be on the same caliber but unfortunately, it is not. I got the dealer's choice where the bartender makes a drink based on my preferences. I told him I like drinks like whiskey sours, anything with egg white, nothing too sweet or spirit forward. He gave me a whiskey sour with strawberry puree in it and it was too sweet. Eeek. All in all, prices are way too high for what you get.

Yelp
This place has the coolest chill vibe. It has old money classy decor and they create jazzy vocals of mixed genre. My server, Brian, was gracious and friendly. He listener to my taste preferences and conveyed them to the bar tender, Nick. I received the best fresh passion fruit vodka cocktail. My husband ordered Basil Hayden with a large cube, he said perfection. The only issue here is that they don't serve food. Brian offered us bar nuts.. Unfortunately, I needed more food in my system to enable multiple cocktails. Great place to impress a customer, GNO/ BNO or a date.

Yelp
Nestled inside of Hotel Vin, down the hall, secretly, and with reservations only, inside the telephone door, the first thing to know is that this is a chill room. Perfect early jazz singers in the background, comfortable seating, nice dark design. It's not a lively party secret room, more for enjoying quiet conversation and good cocktails. It's very much still a work in progress after a few weeks open. Pick up the phone in the phone booth and Clint Eastwood will tell you if you have a reservation you can get a code to enter from the restaurant reception desk. But amusingly, even the folks at reception had trouble finding the code and getting the inner door to the speakeasy open. It's a short list of specialty cocktails, yes, even including a $40 margarita, which I suspect is on the list to make you feel better about the $20 you'll really drop on each drink. It's a short list of specialty cocktails, with the option to ask for a "dealer's choice" where they offer to make you a special drink based on your preferences. When the wife tried that, they ended up just picking something off the short menu that was close to her interests. Felt bad for the two bartenders who had to work off the tiniest little bar I've ever seen, hardly as big as you'd expect a home bar to be. Lots of things got dropped or toppled in the process of them making just a few drinks, trying to work in such limited space. But they were good natured and joking about it. I've no doubt that over the coming weeks they'll make some adjustments for the bartenders and the room to run smoother. Seatings are for 1 1/2 hours, and it will take that long to have 2 drinks, the set up just keeps things slow paced, even with the available reservation spots clearly timed to prevent any big rush. Glad we visited, and if you want a quiet conversation and a good drink in a private space, recommend you make a reservation and give Clint a call.

Yelp
Wonderful place to sit and have a drink. I visited with some girlfriends and we had the best time. The place is small, so make sure you get a reservation. Service was phenomenal and the bartenders/servers were fun and attentive. We got bar tenders choice cocktails and they were delicious! We also paid extra to have a photo put on a drink. Such a great experience!

Yelp
This place was super cool! It was tiny and secretive and made me feel fancy! I took 1 star away because they didn't have wine or any drinks I thought were amazing. It's very expensive and you can only stay about an hour and a half. The rest of it was super cool! worth a visit, but we won't be regulars

Yelp
This place is a gem! First, it smells like tobacco and leather when you walk into the room. It really takes you back in time just with the smell alone. The dimly lit room makes for a cozy and intimate setting and vibe. There are a couple of couches and a few tables where you can sit and we ended up picking the couch. There is a drink menu specifically for this speakeasy and in my opinion, they have some great options. It is on the pricier side of things but it's worth it. Our bartender was great and he did mention that if there wasn't anything on the menu that you wanted, you can just tell him what you want and he'll make it. The drinks were brought to us and we never had to get up. The service was outstanding! The only downside that I will mention is that you WILL have to RSVP in advance. I've heard the wait is a few months so definitely keep that in mind. All-in-all, I highly recommend you make that reservation and try this place out for yourself!

Yelp
What a cool way to celebrate a birthday for cocktails. The ambiance really makes you step back in time to prohibition days. They strive to really make this an experience and it works all the little details from the smell of tobacco and leather , the music and even the lighting adds to the immersive experience. Our bartender Nicholas (didn't get the other man's name) were amazing drinks top-notch and strong definitely add this to your bucket list

Yelp
Came in the other day. was fortunate enough to be able to be a walk-in even though they typically require reservations. The gentlemen there, Ben and Brian, were funny and made lovely custom drinks for my partner and I. it's a small space but great setting without too much noise.

Diane T.

Yelp
This is something you should do once! Make reservations on Open Table. You have 1 1/2 hours to enjoy the ambiance - and it goes by fast. There is a drink menu - or the bartender will discuss your preferences and make something you'll enjoy. Drinks are strong!

Yelp
Good drinks, confrontational manager. We made a reservation and confirmed it several times. After waiting for an hour, the manager came out and told me there was no reservation and started aggressively lecturing me. Do not recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
If you need a reservation for a speakeasy, that completely is wrong with the term of speakeasy. It's just another restaurant/bar. Terrible.

Yelp
My wife and I had such a fun night here! At first, there was a party behind us that must have not understood that it is a speak easy, not a speak up, lol. In other words, it's a very small space and not everybody in the room needs to hear your conversation. But hey left shortly after we got there. The bartenders, Nicholas and his "apprentice" are top notch. We told them what we liked and they created drinks that were fantastic and nothing like we had ever had before,. My wife loved her drinks, and the old fashioned I asked them to "elevate" was like nothing I had ever had before, but somehow still had the familiar old fashioned notes. It was our first time here and we were made to feel like old friends. We will absolutely make this a must stop anytime we are visiting the DFW area.

Yelp
I love speakeasy bars, so when this one opened right down the street from home I was excited to give it a try. A cool concept, but that's where the positives end. The first time I went there it was early in the evening and reactively empty. I had 3 others in my group. We were amazed how limited their menu was, they only had a handful of drinks, and couldn't even make anything off the menu. I personally do not like sweet drinks, so I tried to stick to the whiskey forward drinks. They were well below average. Someone else in my party did the dealers choice (making mention they do not like sweet drinks), but got probably the sweetest drink possible. The bartenders are not very experienced, and this shows in the drinks they offer. Since that was the first week they opened, I went a second time. Again, very sub-par experience and the drinks still were not improved. To make matters worse, there was a very loud, drunk party next to us that made it impossible to hear the person in front of you talking. It also caused us to wait 20-30 minutes to get a drink (or really even acknowledged). Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place unless they improve their bar experience. I don't mind paying a premium for a good drink, but here you pay a premium for a very sub-par drink that you could get at a local dive bar for 1/3 of the price.

Yelp
New speakeasy in Grapevine, so we had to check it out. We expected some kinks, since they are new and you can tell they're still working things out. We made our reservation, and followed emailed instructions and got there 15 minutes early. The host said since we were early grab a drink at the bar in the lobby, we did. Before the bartenders finished our drinks, the host came back and said our table was ready. We chugged the drinks and went into the secret room.-I do think they could make the entrance much cooler than a Google lock, that the host types in a code to get into the room. Once we arrived inside, the ambiance is nice. It's dark and romantic. It's nice to get away from the craziness of Grapevine and have a quiet conversation. Reservations are allotted 90 minutes. The service was not great, and I had to get up to ask if we order at the bar or if the bartender comes to us. They have a small selection of drinks, but there is an option to have the bartender make you anything. I didn't like my first drink, but that was a taste preference. The Gold Fashions were good. It is definitely more on the pricey side. Three drinks was $70. We probably aren't going to go back. We weren't blown away by the room itself, the drinks were good not great and the service was subpar. It is a cool experience, but they definitely have room for improvement.

Yelp
Atmosphere, experience, and vibe are all fantastic (6 out of 5 stars). Given the limited seating, I understand that hiring a legit talented bartender could be tough economically. But quality of the drinks definitely brings this down a couple notches (3 out of 5 stars). It has the look, feel, and pricing of an NYC speakeasy, but the drinks are way off the mark. We'll come back here with out-of-town visitors for the experience and vibe, but we won't come back by ourselves. Tick up that drink quality and we'll be up here on the reg.

Yelp
Drinks were insanely good, ambience was amazing and the bartenders were incredible. Such a fantastic place.

Yelp
Excellent speak easy located inside the beautiful Hotel Vin in Grapevine Texas. Highly recommend this property for a weekend getaway.

Yelp
We visited Magnum for the first time on Friday after Thanksgiving. What a great experience! The staff took exceptional care of us, and ordering the Dealer's Choice was the perfect option! Brian made my husband a phenomenal whiskey sour inspired drink. Not too sweet, with extra tart. I ordered a margarita with a dealer's choice twist, and Daniel didn't disappoint! It was perfect! The extra touch of gold made the drink even that much more exquisite! Definitely will go back next time we are in the DFW area! If you are going, make sure to book a reservation! Very exclusive and limited seating. You will be so glad you found this little secret gem!

Shannon T.

Yelp
Atmosphere was wonderful. Loved the process of getting into the hidden room but once in, the drink making was not fabulous. The Dealer's Choice was not at all what my guest nor I described. Also the drinks were heavy on the alcohol pour; even after asking for a light pour since I was driving afterwards. The drinks need some overhaul to match the rest of the magic. Good start Magnum, so keep working on the drinks and we'll be back.

Jennifer F.

Yelp
Atmosphere is pretty awesome. Please note you need reservations ahead of time as it is very small quaint atmosphere. Unfortunately right off the bat getting in the bar I went to the bathroom and left my husband in there to order drinks for us while I was gone. Instead of someone coming up to him and asking what he would like, the guy came up and asked very accusing how he got in. When my husband explained he had a reservation at 930, instead of that being ok, he still acted like he didn't believe him and went and checked. So....we had a drink and then left as we didn't feel very welcomed. Sad part of it is upon talking with people at the bar...this seems to be a theme with their staff. Couple of suggestions guys....you should first of all never be rude to anyone sitting inside your establishment. Second....maybe have the hostess at Bacchus walk your client in and introduce them to the staff so no one else has to feel like they shouldn't have come in. Third...maybe put the lock on the outside of the phone booth so while we are sitting there we don't constantly have to hear people trying to get in. Doubtful we will be back unfortunately.
