I think this is one of those Instagram-trendy spots where the food is just okay. My husband and I walked by this place almost everyday and saw that they had $2 salmon musubi! So we decided to give it a try, unfortunately the first two times we stopped by, the batch was not ready yet, it wasn't until the third time that we finally got it... and honestly, it wasn't worth the wait.
First of all, the "musubi" is shaped more like an onigiri--triangular, not the classic rectangular musubi shape. There was barely any salmon in the musubi, but for only $2 that's not surprising, but it did leave us feeling a bit disappointed, not to mention it was quite salty. At least it was cheap, so it didn't feel like a huge loss, so I guess worth a try.
On a positive note, one of the staff members was kind enough to let us know exactly when the musubi would be ready, which we appreciated. We just didn't have time to wait so we had to try our luck on other days.
Maguro spot is a tiny corner shop with just a few tables outside, unfortunately right next to an overflowing trash can, so if you go, I'd recommend taking your food to-go and enjoying it at your hotel or home. If you happen to catch them when it's not too busy, the $2 salmon musubi is a nice quick snack. They also offer poké bowls, miso soup, and a few other options.
