The 22 Best Bakeries In London - London - The Infatuation

"For: Gorgeous pastries and perfect banana bread The heavy wooden door at this Battersea bakery feels like a gateway into Narnia, only instead of a friendly faun on the other side, there’s an array of shiny pastries like spring onion and chive scrolls, and puffed-up pain au chocolats and croissants. The banana bread is the real standout here. Not to be mistaken for the sickly-sweet sesame praline banana bread, the classic is dense yet airy, and sweet without being too cakey." - rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, daisy meager, heidi lauth beasley

Mahali Bakery - Review - Battersea - London - The Infatuation

"Every neighbourhood wants a bakery like Mahali. The heavy wooden door feels like a gateway into Narnia, only instead of finding snowy paths and a friendly faun on the other side, there’s an array of shiny pastries. Things like savoury, spring onion and chive scrolls make a nice breakfast to go, and the classic pain au chocolats and croissants are proudly puffed up in their prime position closest to the till. The banana bread is the real standout here—not to be mistaken for the sickly sesame praline banana bread, the classic is dense yet airy, and sweet without being too cakey. There’s a long bench to perch on if it’s not too busy, but it’s more of a pastry-and-flat-white-to-go kind of spot. The kind that you save for the weekend, when you can savour it with a walk in nearby Battersea Park. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Pause Unmute" - Rianne Shlebak

I’ve had my eye on this place for a while, and it definitely did not disappoint. We tried two savoury pastries, the spring onion & chive and the curry puff, both were incredible! For sweets, we went with the lemon & lemongrass and the Milo pastries, and they were just as delicious. Everything was perfectly crisp and full of flavour, nothing bland at all. We also ordered a latte and a matcha latte, and honestly, both were excellent. This bakery is clearly popular, there was a queue when we arrived on a Saturday midday, but it’s absolutely worth the wait. There are a few benches inside, but with the line, it’s tricky to eat in. Luckily, Battersea Park is only a 5-minute walk away, and that’s where we enjoyed our pastries! ☕🥐🍃

What can I say… I over-ordered as everything was very inviting, plus I was on my own, unsupervised. I ate on-site the creme brulee, the pain au chocolat, and the pistachio almond croissant. All amazing! I took away the Vanilla and pistachio , the banana bread with chocolate, and the chocolate doughnut as well. I do not remember the correct name of the fluffy vanilla that I took away, but it was the best of them all. I still have to taste the 2 chocolate doughnuts and the banana bread. Having said that, I am astonished by the incredible quality of everything I had, and I am already planning my next visit. The service is very friendly and smiling, and there are some seating options( benches and small tables to share). I strongly recommend going, and checking their opening times before doing so. Enjoy!

Love this Bakery !! Unique and interesting bakes, don’t go there expecting to only leave with one item! I tried the vanilla brûlée ensaymada, which was less brioche and more cruffin, and I was in heaven. The filling had that burnt caramel taste & real vanilla blended into the creme anglaise making it taste just like creme brûlée! The parmesan on top really added a savoury touch, I just wish there was MORE filling. The sambal bacon pan suisse was also perfect. Sweet on the outside, perfect level of spice and umami on the inside. I also tried the Pandan Almond croissant. The filling was gorgeous but I found the pastry a little overdone. Would still recommend and over all a great sweet treat! Can’t wait to go back soon ❤️

One of the best pastries in London! Atmosphere was lovely and not too busy (i went on friday during lunchtime), staff were so friendly and recommended me some really great options. I love seeing all the Southeast Asian influences in London and this bakery does it so well! Definitely a must try.

Look how divine these pastries look, and they taste even better! The Sambal Bacon & Cheese Pain Suisse tasted vibrant — sweet, salty, spicy. The coffee was seriously good, too! And the staff were friendly, attentive, and helpful. I loved my experience at this bakery and looking forward to my next visit :)

I visited the bakery yesterday and I loved it. They have an excellent variety of pastries. I tried one with pineapple, which I really enjoyed, and another one with bacon that turned out to be quite spicy—it caught me off guard since it wasn’t indicated on the sign. Still, the puff pastry and overall flavor were really good. There was a line, but it moved fairly quickly. One thing to note is that they don’t have a restroom, and there’s limited seating. However, the place is very charming and the service is outstanding. The staff was super friendly— I even asked for a little water and they were happy to help. I’d definitely go back!

I was really impressed with the pandan croissant it was superbbb!! I think most of their bakery items are probably great too, though on the day I visited there weren’t many options available. The matcha and hojicha were also quite good.

I enjoy this place and their pastries, especially when I visit on a weekend morning, as they are much fresher then. I’m a big fan of their Ginger Brûlée tart and Lemon and Lemongrass Danish. I even convinced my colleague to try them, which has cost me money to buy for them when they are open. I just wish the queue moved faster, and I understand it’s a small spot, but it’s frustrating because if you want to grab something before heading elsewhere, you can’t due to the very long queue. Also, I find that the pastries on weekday mornings aren’t as fresh... I don’t know why. It’s my local bakery. A nice treat.
