Chicago Restaurant Week gave my husband and I the perfect excuse for a much-needed date night, and Mahari did not disappoint.
From the moment we walked in, the ambiance felt warm, intimate, and culturally rich — the kind of place where you lean in closer, talk slower, and actually savor your meal.
🍄 The Mushrooms & Flatbread
We started with the grilled mushrooms and flatbread. The mushrooms were deeply seasoned with that smoky, charred edge that makes you pause after the first bite. Paired with warm, soft flatbread, it felt comforting yet elevated. Simple ingredients, bold flavor.
🍔 The Lamb Burger
The lamb burger was juicy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The toppings added brightness without overpowering the richness of the lamb. It felt indulgent but intentional — not heavy, just satisfying.
🍟 Yucca Fries
Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside — the yucca fries were a standout. Slightly denser than traditional fries, they paired beautifully with the dipping sauce and added texture to the meal.
🍚 Jolof Rice & Wings
The jolof rice had that signature depth of flavor — savory, spiced, and comforting. The wings were glazed beautifully, with a caramelized finish and tender meat inside. Every bite tasted layered and thoughtfully prepared.
🥥 Mocktail Piña Colada
And the mocktail piña colada? Creamy, refreshing, and perfectly balanced — not overly sweet. The chili-rim detail gave it just enough contrast to keep it interesting. It felt festive without needing alcohol — perfect for a relaxed date night.

Overall Experience
Mahari felt like an experience, not just a meal. The flavors were bold, the presentation beautiful, and the vibe intimate enough for conversation but lively enough to feel special.
Restaurant Week was the perfect time to try it — but honestly, we’ll be back long after the specials are gone.
If you’re looking for a culturally rich, flavorful, and cozy date night spot in Chicago — Mahari is worth it.
