16 Best Bars in Toronto | Condé Nast Traveler

"People love this speakeasy for its quirky entrance: a pink, neon-lit bodega straight out of a Wes Anderson movie. Walk through a key-shaped back door and you'll enter the main bar area, complete with checkered floors, a tropical mural, and a gleaming lacquered bar that turns out cheekily named cocktails such as the Lady Bird, a concoction of vodka, nashi pear, thyme, Strega, anisette, and lemon—described on the menu as "A much tastier coping mechanism than throwing yourself out of a moving car." - Todd Plummer

I've been here quite a few times now over the years, and have always had a good time. I'm not sure if Mahjong considers itself a speakeasy, but there's not too much of a ritual or any passwords or anything to getting in at the front. They ask you right away if you have a reservation to get in. The space in the back is a nice vibe. I like the checkered floors, dim warm lighting, and decor in general. Definitely, the place is more enjoyable when it's later at night and busier with people. Their drinks are alright. Had the Peach Bonfire, which was a nice mix of a bit of sweet and some spice. The fuzzy peach garnish though was stale. Also tried the Vietnamese Iced Coffee, which was pretty liquor forward for me. Wish it was more balanced/ nuanced. It can be expensive - it was $50 for those two drinks, all in.

Google
Cool bar. Looks like there is a live DJ that plays at night but we made an early reso. Got some food to nibble on such as the duck bao and calamari. The duck bao was really good and crispy! Delicious flavours. I'd definitely come back to try the other drinks!

Let’s talk about Mahjong. I asked ChatGPT for a hidden gem in the West End, and without hesitation, it recommended this spot — and wow, it delivered. The speakeasy vibe is incredible, the food is top-notch: • The papaya salad is out of this world. • The golden rice is packed with flavour. When it comes to cocktails: • The Soju Spritz is an absolute must — I’ll be ordering it every time I go. To top it all off, the service was warm and attentive. Highly recommended.

Google
Went here for a night out with my girls. This bar is a vibe! Make sure to eat before you come. There’s not a lot of food options and the portions are on the smaller end. We ordered the duck rolls and it was disappointing. It was small and didn’t taste any duck, just the hoisin sauce. If you want a table, make sure to reserve a table a week beforehand. The service was alright, you can sense the urge from the servers to order more. Two tables beside us were asked to leave because they weren’t ordering enough. My friends and I waited for the dj and he wasn’t great, can be better!

Google
General advice: Eat before you come! They serve great cocktails. The Strawberry soju was a hit at our table, everyone ordered twice. However, the food was disappointing. It serves a similar style to Chinese take-out, but the price is obviously unmatched. Please do not waste your money on ordering food. Just get drinks and cute pictures 💖

Google
Highly recommend their drinks. Their happy hour is usually until 10:00pm with not a lot of options though. If you are looking for more lively environment go there on weekends. Weekdays are mostly quieter. The ambiance is good!!

Google
Went for early drinks. Good tight selection to pick from. The cocktail was great. The date had wine which was really good. Go early if you want a quiet chill vibe. Didn't try any of the food.

Google
Great vibes for drinks and lounging. We got lucky and were seated at the area right by the entrance with the fancy chairs. The dark ambiance with the red lights inside really makes this place unique. Drinks were good, especially the espresso martini. Overall, fun spot!

Yelp
I was looking for a takeaway place that serves crispy duck & pancakes! This place came up on uber eats (Mahjong Dragon) and I was intrigued. In the UK it's a staple on Chinese food menus. I also ordered the box that had chicken balls, spring rolls and shrimp toast, and chow mein . Everything was good. I received prawn crackers and another dish that I didn't order so I'm assuming the restaurant was being generous at Christmas or because it was my first order? Maybe there was a promo? Not sure. Would definitely order the crispy duck again & I liked the mixed appetizer box. I forget what they called it on the menu. No pics!

Yelp
Mahjong was just alright. The good: The sort of covert entrance is pretty cool and sets you up for a bit of a whimsical entrance. The staff were super nice. The music was good. Clean washrooms. These folks do a pretty solid fried rice. The just alright: There's something about this stretch of Dundas and odd cocktails that just seem slightly off. The food wasn't bad, but it also wasn't great. There's a weird "white people making a Chinese restaurant" kind of vibe going on. That isn't necessarily bad it just feels like everything could be very slightly improved. The interior decoration is a weird mashup of diner and tiki bar.

Yelp
Such a cool concept and high energy place. The menu is thoughtfully curated and we got a nice table next to the Dj. The only thing is that after 1 hour we were asked to stand at bar top since our sofa was technically for bottle service. There was nobody in line at that time so I'm not sure why we were asked to move. We had a party of 5 and all ordered drinks, it wasn't like we didn't order. It was 3 stars for me because of that, but boosted up to 4 because so really liked the drinks and menu mix.

Yelp
This place IT'S NOT CLOSED!!!! We are not from Toronto and we only found out about this place because a local told us about it. It is so BAD ASS!!!!! So Hollywood ! When we got there, we almost missed it, when you walk by it you don't even know is there. The staff was amazing, lay back, welcoming, super nice. Drinks were so good, great place.

Yelp
Mahjong is a speakeasy style bar. The facade is a convenience store that has bright neon lights out front yet the inside is a completely different vibe. The atmosphere inside is dark, loud, and high energy. Design is so trendy and art deco, love the checkered floors. Drinks are good and fairly priced. The food here is decent and shareable. Staff are very nice and chill.
google avatar

Eula B.

Yelp
I like finding hidden bars and there's no way I will miss out on this one. The facade is a great concept as it's behind a convenience store. The store is easy to spot on Dundas as it's the only on who has bright neon pink lights. My friends and I went in and wala! There's a complete bar world that is definitely not obvious from outside. I came here on a Thursday night after dinner with friends so we were just here to grab drinks. The staff was chill and the music was upbeat but not too mainstream. They have a dancefloor so I'd imaging this place gets packed on weekends. The interior is nicely decorated and hipster-ish (yasss gurl) and the lights are dim which is typical for a bar. I ordered Peach Panther and yes, they don't cheap out on the alcohol in there. Definitely coming back here to hide and drink!

Yelp
Loved this spot. A speakeasy located behind a convenience store with a much larger interior than you'd expect from the entrance. I loved the design in here - the murals on the wall, the red bar, the checkboard floor - absolutely everything. Service was friendly. Cocktails were great and DJ on a late Thursday night was playing a great selection of old school and newer tracks. Cannot wait to come back here.
google avatar

Yelp
This review is solely for the drinks/lounge/dancing aspect of the place. We arrived at 10-ish and was able to get a small table for three quickly. There was a bit of confusion in terms of whether we had to ask the front people for a table or not but it got sorted out. The music was very loungy at first and then some people started to dance when they kicked it up a notch with some hip-hop R&B. We were here on a Saturday night and the music was So so. The DJ wasn't really mixing the songs in nicely, it seemed kind a random. After ordering wine, two of us opted for some cocktails. We got two different cocktails and my friend and I both thought that neither were very strong. Unfortunately between the average music and the light cocktails, we ended up leaving to see if we could find another place. The crowd was good and the place 3/4 full. If you want a late night snack in a lounge where there's a very small dance floor this might be up your alley.

Yelp
I would have said this place was amazing a few years ago but since they reopened the drinks aren't as good and the food is overpriced. I wanted to love it :( but I was so disappointed. On top of the fact the staff kept coming over and asking if we wanted more drinks almost to hint for us to leave. Which I found super disrespectful.
google avatar

Yelp
Love the vibes at this bar! The drinks are great~ the food is a bit overpriced~ Would certainly come back!!

Yelp
I just have a thing for secret bars. The frontage of this one though is more conspicuous. Went on a Friday night and were told there weren't any tables, but lucked out and were able to get 2 seats at the romantically lit bar. Vibe: young crowd, groups of females, and a few people on dates. For a hidden bar this was actually pretty spacious and I wonder if that's to accomodate the 'dancing' that was advertised. Drinks were solid but they were out of one of the gins. Whipped up a pisco sour instead. Also tried the wontons - garlicky and delish.
google avatar

Yelp
Really cool concept, convenient store at the front and through the side you enter the bar which is in the back. Definitely an awesome place to take your friends to if it's their first time. Drinks were great here, ordered a party drink and really enjoyed it. Anything with Pimms is great. We also ordered skewer here and yeah, it was not good. Overall, I'd recommend coming here for drinks and the environment is really awesome but if you can make a reservation definitely do. This place definitely gets busy during the weekend and nobody likes to just stand by the side of the bar without a seat. The layout is kinda awkward since the seating area and the bar just has this "space", so if you can make reservation, definitely do it.

Yelp
As Christoph Waltz famously exclaimed in Inglorious Basterds: That's a bingo! This place has it all: beautiful interior, amazing high-energy atmosphere, fantastic cocktails and drool-worthy Chinese food. AND it's got the coolness factor of being a "secret" bar hidden behind the curtain of a cute little convenience store. We showed up around 9:30 on a Saturday and were told we'd have to wait about 45 minutes for a table, so we hit the bar. The place was jumping and the music (DJ in the corner) was on point. I ordered a perfectly balanced cocktail called Tropic Thunder, kind of like an elevated pina colada made with "coconut-soaked rum", pineapple, lime and the tropical pandan leaf. It was so good I ordered another. Once seated, we opted for pork and shrimp wontons (served in sichuan chili oil, topped with scallions and sliced Thai chilis); spicy cucumber salad with crunchy sesame seeds; and Shanghai noodles with braised beef shank. All were dynamite! As far as I'm concerned, this place is a winner. BINGO :)

Yelp
What a fabulous place! The drinks are wicked cheap, definitely check this place out if you're here for a good time, not a long time. My friend and I were visiting from out of town and ended up here on a Saturday night. The crowd is a little obnoxious. A bunch of early 20 somethings. Otherwise the music is good and you get your money's worth.
google avatar

Yelp
This place has awesome drinks. I really enjoyed the tropic thunder and party trick cocktails which were sweet and refreshing. I had the smashed cucumber and the spring rolls which were super expensive, but were good. My friend had the beef noodle bowl and fried chicken which she really enjoyed and was a better value.
google avatar

Noelle M.

Yelp
This place was very cool! Went on a Thursday night. Lots of space, neat vibe. Was excited about the frozen drinks too. Would be a top recommendation from me for people visiting, but I got a really gross drink that was on their specials--tasted like a mistake lol.

Yelp
This is a real cool spot on Dundas. Before you go and check it out, I give this offering to you. It's a bar, it's not quite a restaurant, but they do serve food there. The food is marginalized Cantonese food formatted for eating in an establishment like this. So you may want to order some drinks if you're thinking you'll just have food. The food is not bad, I'd say a solid 3 stars for the dishes we had, which was a mix of skewers, steamed veggies on oyster sauce and roti. But if you're here more for drinks, libation, conversation and fun, then this is a neat cozy place you'll probably have never experienced before. I also think it would be fun if you came in groups and with people who like to drink. Neither of us drank and I couldn't because I was driving. It was also a work night. The funny thing is most of these places we've been do, don't serve coffee or tea? What's with that? You can only order booze to get drunk and drive home? I don't get it. But yeah, it is a bar and not a restaurant. If I lived there, I'd go there. I'd come back, but sadly, I don't drink. Still I loved the idea behind Mahjong and that idea has been with me since I've returned home. Such a cool place, grocery store upfront, Mahjong bar at the back.

Chris G.

Yelp
Great bar and cocktails. Service is outstanding....thanks Steve for the lesson on mixology. Really great place. Not so hidden anymore so is busy.
google avatar

Claudia Y.

Yelp
Suppppperr trendy bar! In front is a faux convenience store with glowing neon lights, go through onto the back and its a dark cool bar, the vibe oozes trendiness with the red glowing arched lights. Its really big inside and very spacious with not that many tables. I came on a Tuesday night and there were still plenty of tables left. Staff was nice and service was good. I just came for drinks so I can't comment on the food. I got the party trick cocktail $14, it was light, sweet and cucumbery and cute with the light pink color. Great place for drinks!
google avatar

Yelp
This is a great spot! We had a little tee-hee moment when passing thru the curtain to find the bar at the back. Nice bar staff and good cocktails. Re food, the spring rolls were divine, and the shrimp wontons good but expect some overpowering heat. Or head to the shop at the front to sit on a bar stool facing Dundas with a tasty spiked slushie. Would def go back.
google avatar

Sheena L.

Yelp
I surprised my hubs with a visit here for some birthday drinks and we both loved it! First, it's fun to sneak behind the curtain and experience the surprising size of Mahjong's "secret" back bar. What awaits is a tropical, 80s inspired vibe with a dark ambiance. It was the perfect locale to top off our night and a fun concept to explore. There was no line on a Monday night. The atmosphere was immediately inviting and unique, service was friendly and the drinks were amazing! I find it hard to believe others tasted the same drinks as me and did not enjoy the essence of the Tame Impala. It was gingery with a robust and lively flavour! I had the Tropical Thunder and it was awesome too, though different than I was expecting (in a good way!). The drinks were served without a garnish, which didn't really matter as the presentation was still great and the cocktails were perfectly balanced. We didn't try the food. This place is new, so it's expected to see mixed reviews as there are below, but they certainly don't reflect the experience I had. I highly recommend this place, especially if you're looking to impress a date. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Very disappointing . Service was terrible . We were told our table would take us an hour , 2 and a half hours later we still don't have a table. We were A party of 7 so we understand big tables can take time. After waiting at the bar we noticed a table for our size was sitting empty for over 20 Minutes and we still hadn't got a call For our table. After being fed up of standing for 2 and half hours we seated ourselves at the table. Almost immediately we were reprimanded , told it was someone else's table . But no one showed up. Then the server came back twice to question us about sitting there. They would rather have an empty table than seat people who waited two and half hours to get a table. Not worth the hype.
google avatar

Derek L.

Yelp
I don't usually write yelp reviews, but my experience at Mahjong bar was so awful I felt compelled to. For a $14 cocktail, I'd expect the bartender to use clean ice and a strainer. Instead, the bartender re-used ice from the last drink, and I received a mouthful of ice shards on my first sip. The space and location have potential, but with gems like Black Hoof's cocktail bar and Han Moto in such close proximity, Mahjong bar will have to seriously up it's cocktail game for me to consider a second visit.
google avatar

Caro A.

Yelp
Fun spot, great space and cool vibe. Good for a stop if your out on the town for drinks. If there's a line it moves pretty fast! Decent drink menu and good service.
google avatar

Sean M.

Yelp
The Mahjong Bar is a speakeasy that has a storefront of a small convenience store. They serve a wide variety of drinks and cocktails and even some light Chinese food too! It's also terribly dark inside. Some people used their phones to try and see the menu. Some people used the candles on the table to see the menu. It's a very dimly lit space, so if you want to avoid being seen/looking at someone, this is certainly the perfect space. The drink selection is also a bit on the pricier end of the scale. It's a busy space with every table and bar stool taken, so be warned if you may have to stand for a bit! Otherwise, this place is very trendy, and most people will enjoyable the vibe, I think.
google avatar

Jonathan L.

Yelp
Nothing personal, but Mahjong Bar outlived its trendy appeal within the ten minutes that we were there. The hype, the long wait in line, the exposed brick and fusion menu are all staples of a bumping locale - but Mahjong Bar somehow managed to make all of this a hackneyed parody instead. After waiting more than forty minutes in line, we were told we would need to grab a place at the bar. So we sidled up to a cramped bar and watched the uninspiring bartender languidly rattling shakers and reusing ice and strainers. The drinks, of course were equally average. My tame impala tasted more like it had been not only tamed, but castrated and saddled. Overall, not worth the wait.
google avatar

Paul C.

Yelp
Neat speakeasy on Dundas W with a laid back atmosphere and solid service. The crowd was mixed but mostly younger. The night I went everyone was easy going and I enjoyed my time!

Jessica H.

Yelp
I can't comment on the food, but I can certainly comment on everything else! I was visiting from NYC and I came here two nights in a row (Friday and Saturday) because I loved it so much. I even stood in line during an ice storm the second night because I knew I would have a great time. My boyfriend was drinking their delicious Japanese Highballs and I was drinking white wine. The crowd on that particular Friday was busier and more lively than Saturday and the music was more fun with a lot of hip hop and rap. Saturday was a bit more low key but still fun. Lots of people dancing and standing at the bar, but there was still plenty of room to sit down it didn't take long to order drinks. The bartenders were super cool and nice and the best part of my whole experience was how cool the crowd was... everyone was super friendly, happy to chat, happy to move over to create more room, and happy to let me squeeze in at the bar. Canadians are truly super nice people :) I will be back!

Yelp
This place standouts in a quickly overcrowding area for its drink options and service quality. This is reflected in the diverse happy go lucky crowd.
google avatar

T My Elizabeth H.

Yelp
I always wanted to come here. The receptionist is a weird vibe. It looks like a convenient store when walking in. We went around 7pm and it wasn't filled inside, however we had to come back at 9 as our table for 4 was available. As the night progress it turned into a bar vibe. Not a great place for eating and enjoying your food- must eat before 8pm. We ordered about 10 dishes - tapas style , and we kept having people who were dancing putting their drinks on our table. The tables are very small and does not fit large group unless you get the booth of 6-10ppn. Would come here for drinks only.
google avatar

Ashley M.

Yelp
An interesting place. The bar is hidden behind a deceiving empty store front. Behind the plastic curtains reveals a dark space with a long bar and close seated tables along either side of the place. The food was amazing! I had the shrimp dumplings, Taiwanese chicken, sautéd rapini, and fried rice. Everything had a unique flavour and good amount of spice. There was a DJ playing great tunes... only wished he turned it up load enough so we could dance. Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Jimmy J.

Yelp
Nice surprise! My friend brought me here and I thought it was a convenience store that served beer. I was pleasantly surprised when we got inside to the main room. We tried several dishes my favourites were the pork half moon and the beef noodles! We drank beer but the cocktails looked amazing. The interior was dark and cozy and the music was bumpin. Overall a great time and I want to go back again soon!

Yelp
Went for drinks not for the food, but was very happy with the atmosphere. To enter you walk through a small storefront and behind a plastic curtain and you are inside. The place is dimly lit with a red glow, there are a small number of tables around the outside, which were all full, and a crowd gathered around the bar. Many people were standing around chatting, while others were dancing. Drinks are around $8 for your basic rum & coke, and are made with a fair amount of alcohol for the price. A small proportion of people were eating food which was an interesting mix with the rest of the bar. Overall it was a fun place to visit, and I would consider returning another night.

Enas A.

Yelp
Booked a massive table to celebrate my birthday on a Saturday night. My party and I arrived at around 9PM. The entrance is a speakeasy kind of vibe ....looks like a fancy convenience store out front but in the back is a gorgeous bar. We were sat right away and given menus. The servers assigned to our table were excellent, checking in on us very little bit and ensuring everyone's drinks were topped up. My table ordered tapas style Asian fusion food. I got the beef noodle soup which was freaking amazing. Someone else at our table got the fried rice...also very good. At around 11:30 the place TURNED upppp.....it was packed and the music was popping so it was a perfect combo of dinner and then party after. Overall great place for a large party to celebrate a birthday and the prices were average and fair for that part of town.

Chloe E.

Yelp
My office had our holiday party here last week. Firstly let me say that this is not a venue that is accommodating to large groups despite their instagram tagline. We should have all known better when they wouldn't guarantee seating for 30. If 30 people wanted to come to your bar/restaurant and eat and drink all night long wouldn't you want to guarantee they have seats? I'm not a restaurant owner but I feel like that's a pretty important part of accommodating large groups. Since we didn't have guaranteed seats our group had to show up at 6:30 sharp to ensure that we could snatch up every available seat, other than the bar stools, for our group to enjoy our meal that evening. Our seating was the entire banquet along one side of the restaurant and then 4 table tops about 15 feet away from the rest of the group. The staff's attitude was beyond atrocious. I suspect that they were offended because we were wearing sequins not vintage t-shirts. They did their best to ignore us and they were very The food was very disappointing. At least if the food was amazing that would have put a more positive note on the evening. The same hot sauce or chilli was put in every dish so everything tasted the same. The dishes were served one by one, sometimes with 1 serving between 7 people, the timing was really off. Then 9pm came and the staff told everyone in the banquet that they needed those seats back for people in blundstones and toques. This ultimately led to the majority of our staff to call it a night and leave. The rest of us at our small tables in the corner finished our drinks and then went across the street to a new place called Opium. Highly recommend this place!!! Get the takoyaki, salt and pepper wings and the baos.
google avatar

Jack L.

Yelp
Concept is nice but poor execution, drinks are poorly balanced and definitely not worth the price. Not worth the hype.
google avatar

Yasmin K.

Yelp
Nice environment to have cocktails, but not authentic asian cuisine, food is good for snacks to have along with drinks but not an actual dinner. Good drinks and nice ambiance , but very limited seating area.
google avatar

Kineta V.

Yelp
I loved this place! The front is designed excellently, so you'd have no idea that there's a bar hiding back there if you weren't looking for it specifically. The music was good, decor is gorgeous, and the food was excellent! There were lots of vegetarian options too. The dinner for four is a good deal if you're part of a group and would like to try a bunch of things on the menu. Expect prices similar to any other trendy bar/restaurant on the west side of town.

Jennie Z.

Yelp
Nice speakeasy feeling bar. Cool decor and ambience. Drinks are pricier but worth trying (I recommend the dirty money) Food items aren't my favourite but has a nice kick to them. (chilli oil with dumplings)

Wina N.

Yelp
The front looks like a dispensary but you are pleasantly surprised when you enter! It's all about the Mahjong Half Moons. Prefer the pork over mushrooms. Reasonably priced, good music and fun atmosphere!
google avatar

Erika G.

Yelp
I was there on Thursday with a group of friends, my fourth time. The decor is very nice, the food was good, get the ramen noodles if you are hungry. The cocktails are priced high. Also if you go, make sure to get early as you do not want to deal with the door guy- he was very rude, arrogant, not welcoming as he was turning people away. I get that you are at capacity but there's no need to be so rude about it. He slammed the door in someone's face-not cool. Manager can and should be more accommodating when dealing with customer complains as well. I will not be going back due to their poor staff service. However, must say the bartenders are always on point. If you decide to go, make sure is before 8 pm to avoid the line up and bad attitude that comes with it.

Yelp
Amazing food, bartenders are sweet, waitresses are polite and super accommodating. The venue is absolutely gorgeous. Would definitely recommend

Yelp
This place was way too cool for me - as in, I'm not cool enough to even have gone there! I walk by all the time, during the day, when looking in it looks like a little convenience store. Very unassuming. We showed up around 930 pm on a Saturday, and we put our names on a waitlist for a table, which we didn't need, because there was plenty of space at the bar. (when they phoned us with our table, we just said we were okay at the bar) The bartender was friendly and easy going, very pleasant staff all around. The space was incredulously loud, screaming the entire time, which we thought was odd but we didn't realize this place turns into a nightclub! I saw the little sign that said, Dinner drinks dancing, and had commented, "Dancing?" Well, at midnight, lo and behold, they take away the barstools and everyone was grinding up all over each other. The clientele was a mix of King Street vibes and hipster, but everyone was really nice and in a really good mood. The music was good. Drinks and beer selection excellent. I had a great time! Bathrooms are annoyingly down a flight of stairs, which I am not sure is a great idea, and only two toilets in the women's so prepare to stand around.

Peter H.

Yelp
They should get mahjong tables. I was so disappointed that they did not have a mahjong set. Also if they allowed back room gambling i would give it five stars
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Expensive Chinese tapas in a sixties retrofetishist ambience with uptight no nonsense hospitality from helpless white male servers. No we can't push the tables together. No we can't give you the wifi password. It's hard to feel welcome as a group of 12 with a preordered dinner that comes out 30 min after the party arrives--and the restaurant was empty on the weeknight except for us. However I'm just reporting this as an observer since I tagged along to a post-university talk dinner event. I have trouble understanding why items like braised beef noodle (which could be eaten by one person) are shared. The flavours were great but leave more to be wanted as I thought about the same dish for $8 at King noodle on spadina. The other appetizers like cold cucumber, wonton and spring rolls were uninventive and tasted about as good as from a package. There's a great choice of sour beers and crafts on the menu but I'm not sure then if this is more of a drinking establishment-- seems it is more for a hot date you're trying to impress

Yelp
Reading the other reviews might have scared me off if the direction for pre-dance party drinks hadn't been for something close to the venue. But I loved the idea of a speakeasy style bar. You walk into the storefront and 3 people are there to greet - if you didn't know what you were there for, you might miss the whole bar. I ask for a table for 6. Since it was only for pre-activity drinks we were only staying for an hour or so. So when the hostess offered a table that was reserved later in the evening, and I said we'd be gone by then, we snagged a table right away. Walking passed the plastic curtain (might have been more interesting if they were beads), your eyes take a moment to adjust to the dark cavernous resto/bar in the back. Tables line the sides of the room with a long bar in the back. Lots of space in the middle for mingling. We were seated in the front with some eclectic armchair and couch combinations. Really cool! I'm suddenly thinking how cool it would be to have a party here, but was disappointed to hear their capacity was only 96. The wait staff was attentive. 3 people came to drop water off to the table at the start. Drinks are all really interesting. The wine options should have offered for a larger glass (5oz/9oz/bottle options) but only offered the 5 oz option. One of my friends ordered the Writers Tears... that's an idea... come back to write and drink whiskey in this secret environment. They also have Kona beer by the bottle. I'm sold! Hawaiian beer and Writers Tears? That's the beginning of an amazing screenplay in my world! I also tried the Braised Beef and Shanghai noodles with Sichuan sauce. Spicy and delicious, although the noodles tasted a little undercooked. But the spice in the sauce overrode the floury taste. Would definitely come back to try the other menu items and some Writers Tears.

Yelp
Really try hard looking bar, rude staff, and overpriced drinks with very little actual alcohol in them. Could've used that to actually enjoy the space, felt like it really wanted to be cool. Pretty unoriginal.

Yelp
My friends were waiting inside the bar around 9:30pm for myself + another friend. The guy at the door did not let us in after I gave the name of my friend that had reserved a spot for our group. He then dismissed my friend and I very rudely. Was on a power trip. While we were waiting outside I was texting the crew to tell them the situation and asked how it was inside. They replied saying they weren't feeling it and would be glad to leave with us. They told us the vibe wasn't really friendly, service was poor and the drinks were mediocre. One of the drinks they received was not mixed properly. Don't waste your time going here. There's so many other interesting/unique bars + establishments that not only look good but have proper service and a welcoming atmosphere. You can find an aesthetically pleasing bars with good service and top notch tapas/drinks all over the city. We hit up the Dakota Tavern and Fifth Social after which ended up being so much better and had tons of good vibes.

Yelp
A great speak-easy to wow your friends for sure! The front has kind of a LA corner store vibes to it and once you enter, a large dim-lit hall with soft globe lights hanging from the ceiling, black&white checker board floors and beautiful Chinese-American themed mural awaits. I have not tried the food but people were mostly just drinking. The decor and ambience is on POINT but the drinks (except the Tame Impala) were pricey and unworthy. Plain glasses, no decorations of them. Not even a lime or an orange peel. Bourbon was too syrup-y sweet and the egg white foam on my Green Dragon was beyond raw-egg smelling. It smelled like a low-grade egg and definitely not fresh. Still, we proceeded on having our drink and the waitress immediately tells us we have to leave at 9:30 since there's no table service?? We were puzzled but complied and as we were paying, we asked our bills would be separate she just crumpled up the paper in front of us and gave us passive aggressive attitude. Very unprofessional. I had my fair share and probably would only return if someone else wants to try it for their first time. Cool establishment, but that's about it for me.
