We visited Mai Mien Yen Tsai 賣麵炎仔 in Datong District, and it truly feels like a place for traditional Taiwanese food done the old school way.
This is a spot with no social media, no menu prices, and no fancy decor. The menu is simple and focuses on doing just a few dishes. If you come too late, many items will be sold out.
We discovered this place through another food blogger and learned quickly that you need to be flexible with your order. If you want more choices, come early, but be prepared to wait 30 to 60 minutes in line.
The space feels very local. The staff and owner clearly know the neighbours well, and we saw many locals stopping by, some even ordering takeout. Take-out is very simple: everything is packed in plastic bags, no fancy containers.
If you want an old-school Taiwanese vibe with very affordable prices, this place is for you. Most dishes are around NT$100 to NT$120, and the most expensive item is the chicken at NT$250. Portions are generous, and you will see locals and visitors lining up together.
This is the kind of place you visit for the food, not the decor. We highly recommend it.
