"Mai Thai in Dupont will not reopen after COVID-19. The location actually quietly closed shortly before the pandemic reached the area, a manager tells Eater. Mai Thai’s other locations (Old Town, Georgetown) sister spot Thaiphoon in Dupont remain open for takeout." - Tierney Plumb

Portions are the perfect size. Pad Kee Mao was excellent - noodles perfectly singed, fresh veggies and just the right amount of sauce. The chicken wing appetizers have a great sauce, but the meat was a little dry, still good enough I’d likely get it again. The pork larb was a bit salty for my taste, but it’s also a dish with a lot of intentional variation in the bay area so even though it didn’t hit my expectation it was still very good. Service is excellent and they’ve put a lot of effort into making the dinning area unique and cozy

Loved the food. Got mussaman curry with jasmine rice. Also got pineapple fried rice. I love spicy so asked for Thai spicy. It wasn’t spicy for me. But taste was amazing. Delicious food.

Wow what happened to this restaurant? I hadn't eaten here for a year but now it's not the same. Before the prices were reasonable with big portions and very tasty Pad Thai. If Thai restaurant doesn't know how to make good Pad Thai, you know somethings not right. I've had the real stuff in Thailand many times so I know when it's made right. So now I'm paying more for less tasty food. Today the dinner portion was half of the lunch special (a year ago.) We got the check and was double charged for a scoop of ice cream. The bill listed a banana and ice cream, but we didn't order a banana, only ice cream. And to seal the deal to never come back, the suggested tip was calculated including the tax! Very deceptive. This was one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the area, but time to find a new one.

Google
The food here was AMAZING. The waitress Lisa suggested a drink I have never had before, and it was everything I didn't know I needed. I don't remember the name. However, it was sweet tea with milk and some other things. Both waiters that assisted us were very attentive.

Google
The food was delicious and the staff was really friendly. Love the tropical flowers every where you looked nice touch on the fresh flowers! Ease of access, street side corner location. My favorite was the pumpkin curry with shunt of coconut. Really appreciate the nice cold glass of water with a lemon wedge while waiting for my order.

Google
We have Tom Yum Chicken, Chicken Satay and Veggie spring rolls. Tom Yum soup was not spicy and sweeter than expected, probably from the tomatoes. Loved the spring rolls and the big size. Staff was great. We didn't wait too long for our order.

Google
Thai restaurant that doesn't disappoint. We celebrated a birthday luncheon here bringing a party of 14 guests. We ordered lots of different dishes and ate family style. Food was good. Dining room was small but adequate for our party. The room got loud because of lack of sound dampening. Nonetheless, the restaurant served its purpose. We enjoyed ourselves.

Excellent host/server she is exceptional needs a raise! She made my day and even introduced me to my favorite Thai tea. Spicy pad Thai and appetizer was delicious.

Yelp
This is our first time eating at Mai Thai Cuisine for our 19th hole lunch. We have eaten at other restaurants in this strip mall but never tried Mai Thai. The lunch specials intrigued us to try this restaurant. The 9 of us walked in and the staff was nice and friendly, restaurant was clean, cozy and relaxing. Our party all ordered different dishes and they were all delicious and a few of the guys ordered meals to go after they finished lunch. Lots of menu special choices and I'm sure we'll be back. Our party ordered Pad Sa Ew, Pad Thai, Drunk Noodle, BBQ Beef w/Rice, BBQ Pork w/Rice, BBQ Chicken w/Rice and Chicken Curry w/Rice. A small salad comes with the lunch special and even that was good; especially the dressing! Each dish had its own distinct flavor so everyone enjoyed all the dishes

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Everything was close to being good/great, but tasted slightly off. Papaya salad was hand cut (positive) but the knife work was inconsistent and there wasn't enough Papaya to balance out the dish. Veggies in the pad see ew were overcooked and mushy and there was a weird after taste, as if the noodles were stewed instead of stir fried. Same after taste was present in the pad Thai - maybe it was a stewed garlic after taste? Either way, it was thoroughly unenjoyable. It's give it one more go to see if it was just an off night, but if I got the same quality again it will be a complete pass in the future.

Yelp
We were here for dinner on a Friday evening around 6 PM. The restaurant was very full and we were concerned that since we did not have a reservation. Luckily, there was a table available and also space at the bar. I had the Larb salad and a side of coconut rice. The salad was very fresh with lots of mint. The coconut rice was delicious. My husband tried the Panang curry and he gave it a 10 out of 10. He said that the curry had plenty of sauce with a good level of spiciness, plenty of vegetables, and that the chicken was tender. We also had the iced thai tea's and those were very good as well. Parking is plentiful at the shopping center although mostly full.

Cynthia R.

Yelp
I haven't been here for a long time and was happy that I remembered it! The red curry salmon was delicious! The red curry chicken was good too, but I think the salmon was much better in terms of the veggies in it! Note: Medium spicy was pretty spicy!

Lakshaye A.

Yelp
Their Chicken Satay, Pad Thai and the chicken platter with rice was Amazing ! It is a beautiful restaurant and a hidden Gem of the area. The staff was super friendly and of great help when asking for their recommendations.

Andy N.

Yelp
Took my parents here for lunch after deciding that an hour long wait at the dim sum place nearby was just not worthwhile. Leave it to the millennial to help order Thai food for the table. There were a few items that stood out to someone plant based like myself, but I ultimately went with their Tofu Larb Salad and a Tofu Pad See-Ew. The salad was sweet, tangy, and spicy - all amazing flavor components. My pad see-ew was fine overall although I found it to be a bit too greasy with the wide noodles not being as wide as they normally would be. Still, the flavors there but I'd skip this next time. Service here was great as well. Once I mentioned if something was vegan, our server made sure that everything else we ordered that could be veganized would be the case (such as our tofu larb salad). They checked in on us and I appreciated their help.

Yelp
I'm a Thai food maniac and I enjoy all the different flavors as well as the spicy flavors. This place is walking distance from my house and of course I would not continue to go and have meals there if I didn't like it I love it just the staff about their favorite dishes and they will tell you and they will tell you why and then from there make a decision. The food is good, the service is superb and they help me get through Covid

Kristina P.

Yelp
Surprisingly it wasn't too busy here on a Saturday night! Treated the fam out for dinner and everything was delicious. We got seated right away and the waitress was very attentive, making sure everything was okay throughout dinner. The calamari here is a must with their sauce! We also ordered the yellow curry, spicy fried rice, pad Thai, bbq chicken, chicken satay, brown rice and the calamari. Way too much food but all so good! Definitely a gem in in San Leandro!

Jen-Jen B.

Yelp
We ordered delivery. Prices are just ridiculous for the tiny portions. Plus our order was missing Tom yum soup and then the bbq ribs looked nothing like ribs. I at least liked the lady fingers and the pad Thai was not too bad. Larb was tasty but, needed more meat. That's pretty much I can say with this experience.

Rachel D.

Yelp
Thai take out for dinner. Green curry is very good. Lots of veggies in it. Bbq beef was great flavor but beef was very chewy and had all gristle, pad thai was good and Tom Kha soup was very good.

Rocio G.

Yelp
Delicious!! First time here and went in for lunch on a Wednesday and they were pretty busy but took us in and sat us right away. The service was friendly and very fast. I had the spicy wings appetizer -- so good! And for my entree I had the spicy basil chicken and that was tasty. I will definitely be back.

Charles W.

Yelp
Five stars all the way. This is a family owned and ran restaurant that fulfills the stomach, taste, smell, customer service, everything! This place fulfills your everything. The owner came and sat with us and talk to us. This was during San Leandro's first restaurant week. I believe her name was Carina or Catrina but she was so wonderful to talk to and so pleasant. She advised that her mom was in the kitchen cooking. I told her that I would be back and I will. Please eat here because this place is O'mazing and fresh!!!!

Rami K.

Yelp
Thank you for great experience The food was amazing I am very ocd and this place is extremely clean and I appreciate that Service above and beyond

Mocha O.

Yelp
Curries are decent for their price. Good taste and variety of ingredients. Red is better over pumpkin. Pad see ew was favorite, sweet noodles with savory flavor. Soft but not mushy easy to eat. Pad kee maw was mushy and not much noodles... for a noodle dish Satay chicken was questionably cooked. Is pink and had a mushy texture. (Reason for lower star count)

Claudia ..

Yelp
Great Thai food! My favorite entree is Sweet Basil with chicken and shrimp! Service is excellent and the waitresses are friendly and polite.

janay s.

Yelp
This place has the best Thai food around Fresh, flavorful hearty amazing food I highly recommend

Jessica B.

Yelp
Food was good, staff was friendly and quick to help, and the restaurant was clean and relaxing.

Karen J.

Yelp
3.5/5 We ordered the pad Thai with tofu which was pretty good flavor and noodle texture what just right. I would get again if I ever craved pad Thai. We also got the wonton rangoons which is solid I think the stuffing was pretty good, but I have tasted better. However the reason for the low rating is because the fried rice. We initially ordered the spicy fried rice and when it came out it had a mushy texture and the rice was wet and almost like porridge. We asked the server if it's supposed to be like this and she said no it's not supposed to be wet so she let us try another fried rice because she said the other ones are not wet. We replaced it with the pineapple fried rice and when it came out again it was mushy and wet. It tasted like they added too much water when making the rice and then cooked the wet rice into fried rice. I did see multiple reviews about the mushy fried rices on Yelp afterwards though. Unfortunately we couldn't eat the rice due to the texture so we had to swap it again with a pad thai.

VN J.

Yelp
Not the only Thai restaurant in this town-- but definitely the best Thai restaurant in town, hands down! Flavor for days and the most kind service.

Felicia C.

Yelp
My favorite spot in San Leandro! I pretty much bring all my family and friends here whenever they come out to see me! It is probably my first recommendation! My favorite is the Pad See Ew! Great service and love the music and ambience.

Ian B.

Yelp
Family vibe - homey - perfect pricing - and best of all, Absolutely Delicious. Best Thai food of my short life thus far. Couldn't even pause to take a pic before eating, it was too delicious. (See pic of half eaten plates haha)

Christopher H.

Yelp
By far the best Thai food around. Make sure there is no fish or chicken when you order if you are vegetarian. Fried rice, Perfect! Yellow curry, perfect. Owners amazing, service can't get any better. Nice spot to eat, very clean.

Kate D.

Yelp
Very Nice Restaurant . Good service, but little bit slow during lunch time which is understandable. Very good food. Price is little bit pricey. My husband loves their food a lot . His favorite is seafood curry

Anthony D.

Yelp
Still killing it! Amazing food and friendly service! Spring roll, dumplings, green curry with shrimp is always my go-to!

Gabby H.

Yelp
Just perfect -- everything perfect. from the prawn roll appetizers to the wide variety of lunch specials, you won't go wrong here no matter what you order. I have to admit that I've had almost every dish on the menu so I can't choose just one favorite. instead I'll give you a quick list of my top picks: House Noodle is light but filling BBQ Beef is hearty and fresh Chicken Satay is a perfect quick bite and the Pad Thai is I N C O M P A R A B L E. this restaurant is impeccably clean and sanitary, the staff is attentive and friendly, and the prices are great for the quality of food you'll receive. 5 stars across the board.

Matthew H.

Yelp
Food is OK but not worth the price. Ordered 3 items, told me 25 minute wait and turned into double that, close to an hour for 3 items and there was only 4 tables being served at the time in the restaurant. Bad service, average food and high prices...never again!

Lucy Y.

Yelp
Mai Thai - didn't dine in at the restaurant but ordered take out to try their dishes. The wait was bit on the longer end as it took probably around 45 mins for the food to be ready. I ordered two pad Thai, yellow curry, and fried calamari. Pad thai was pretty standard but wished the portion sizes were bigger. The yellow curry was delicious and highly would go back for more. It does not come with rice. Next time I will just skip on the fried calamari as I had better and more crispy calamari at other spots.

Remain H.

Yelp
OHHHH MAIIII THAAIII great freaking food we love their green curry our favorite is the yellow curry and their Pad Sa Eew. Also if its a week day and its during lunch time and for some reason you have a medical emergency, don't worry there is bound to be a NURSE or Medical professional who is eating right next to you that works at the near by kaiser! We should know cause this be the lunch spot after one of those hard ass shifts

Angelique J.

Yelp
If you like Thai then this is a place you need to try. Every time I eat here the food is always amazing and fresh. But this time I'm reporting on ummmmm my eggplant outer skin was hard. Never happened before because past times the eggplant is tender. Thinking maybe the fried it a little too long in the oil but who knows. The service is good and the staff are so nice. The food is always fresh Thai Tea taste amazing The spiciness is on point. So if you don't like spicy well you better tell them or your nose will be running and mouth a fire a little bit. Just drink Thai Tea it was stop the spicy attack. This place closes at 8pm so get there early to have a sit down dinner or lunch. They always have take out which I do a lot from this place. Again a must try

Angel P.

Yelp
Great food and friendly staff. We planned to dine indoors but we came a little before closing. They were able to accommodate us with a take out order. We got pad thai, pineapple fried rice, pumpkin curry, som tom salad (papaya salad) and eggplant entree. We sat in the car to wait and they actually brought the food out to the car. Everything was delicious and no complaints. I definitely recommend Mai Thai to anyone. It is my family's go to thai restaurant.

Hanh T.

Yelp
The food was okay , I go to the supermarket nearby and always see this place so I thought I would give it a try . I got the drunken noodles but it was so mushy and I expected more . Maybe I'll give it another chance in the future when I'm craving Thai food. Quick turn around time and friendly staff.

Jenny L.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years. The staff is always friendly and the food is always fast! San Leandro doesn't have a lot of great restaurants but we sure do have a lot of local restaurants that have been here for years. Service is great and fast. To go or dine in. The food however is mediocre. We have tried all kind of noodle dish. One of my favorites is thei curry dishes and the Tom yum soup and Thai tea. I also love their little spice on the table. The spiciness at this restaurant is actually spicy unlike some restaurants. Support your local restaurants!

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
Amazing flavors, and very fresh. I love their lunch menu options, good portions, with dinner entree choices My go to plates: -Satay Chicken appetizer -Pad see ew with chicken and veggies, AMAZING -pad Thai chicken or steak, super good -ALL the curries are good, I always request and extra side of veggies with chicken (top picks: red curry, panang, seafood pumpkin) - Rama chicken (peanut butter chicken) delicious -both tom yum and Tom ka chicken soups are delicious as well

Jenn H.

Yelp
We were running errands in the area close to dinnertime, so we ordered dinner to go here and got the corn cakes, pad thai and pad kee mao. We had our kiddos in the car and they were getting restless, so we took them out and strollered them around while waiting. It was a bit of a cold night but they still had fun, and we had our food within 15 minutes. The owner was very sweet and kept apologizing about the wait, but we assured her it was okay. The food smelled SO good and we dug in once we got home. The portions for both the pad thai and pad kee mao were huge! My husband and I have pretty good appetites and can pack it away, but we both had leftover for the next day. The corn cakes were a hit--they were so flavorful and delicious and corn-y. I wish they would have vented the container though--I can imagine these being crisp straight out of the kitchen, but they were a bit soggy. Please support your local restaurants during this time, and get something from Mai Thai!

P T.

Yelp
Been going for many years. Like everywhere, the prices have gone way up. But the food is incredibly delicious. I love good Thai food and this is the best in this part of the Bay Area. The red and green curries are yummy. The pineapple fried rice is crave-worthy. The roti is wayyyyy overpriced, but is melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The food is spicy, so be sure to tell them if you are not a fan of hot, hot. The decor is a little too dark-moody, but there are always gorgeous fresh flowers on the tables.

Ryan P.

Yelp
I usually come here often but I ordered the BBQ Beef last night and it did not taste right. It had a slime like texture and seemed like it was barely cooked and now I do have a headache and feel drowsy. I'd recommend not ordering any beef dishes there more known for pad Thai and there curry.

Trinh P.

Yelp
Love this place!! My co workers and I love coming here for lunch- it's soo good and we love the service. They always accommodate us and always get out us on time to go back to work. We love coming here for all occasions, all celebration-it's a great treat. I often bring my daughter her for dinner as well! Dishes we love love and recommend: -papaya salad loas style -chicken pad Thai -any curry especially pumpkin is my favorite, can't go wrong with any of them -pad se ew -short ribs (my daughters go to) -lady finger (also my daughters to go) -roti -calamari with cilantro sauce OMG the sauce tho!! -Thai tea Literally they won't disappoint. The ambiance is nice and cute. They have a small bar with tv that's always has a game on.

Justine A.

Yelp
Came for a late lunch on Saturday. No wait. Excellent service. We got the summer rolls, roti, pumpkin beef curry, veggie house fried rice, and chicken pad Thai. Everything was yummy. I especially enjoyed the roti with yellow curry and my husband really liked the pumpkin curry. Nice to have a good Thai place close to home. We'll be back to try more!

Mel C.

Yelp
Take out green curry w pork and Pork pad see ew were very tasty! Even salad dressing flavorful. Weekday Lunch menu offers many dishes. Service on short notice was quick. Will be back for more.

Jason L.

Yelp
Food is amazing, only Thai food place I ever recommend to family and friends is Mai Thai. The Red Curry is delicious and the Thai Fried rice is buttery and I have not found another restaurant that has come close to replicating its tastes.

Ron K.

Yelp
First time at Mai Thai, won't be the last. The food was excellent and the servers were nice an attentive. Great food, great service and a fair price.

GT R.

Yelp
The ladies here are very nice and courteous. The food is very good and a relaxing environment. Will keep coming back to this place.

Molly L.

Yelp
Overall our trip here was pretty great. We ordered a yellow chicken curry, papaya salad, pineapple fried rice with tofu, and beef pad se ew. The yellow curry is very fragrant and very good, although some of the vegetables could have been boiled longer. The pineapple fried rice with tofu was amazing and had really good flavor to it, although they could have toned it down with the oil and cooked the tofu for a bit longer. The pad se ew was also pretty good, although they used less sugar. The papaya house salad was the only thing that left much to be desired. It was a small serving (half of it lettuce) and then it was also too spicy. Overall though, the food was great and we will be back (though prob not get any of the papaya salad).

Tammy H.

Yelp
Excellent lunch specials and I was under the impression that lunch specials did not exist after Covid. I was wrong. The spices scream Thai. The freshness screams worth the drive. The prices scream come back and see us again real soon. Excellent staff friendly and helpful. Safety is their number one concern. The squid is cooked just perfectly. Tender with every bite. If you want spicy just enough to make you believe you are vacationing on the beaches of Thailand. The vegetables are cooked to perfection not wilted or overcooked. Try the pumpkin spice Thai tea it's a holiday treat.

Cindy C.

Yelp
Do Not eat here if they are busy. I feel this family restaurant take advantage of us. We ordered BBQ Beef the Spicy catfish and Chicken Pad Thai along with a couple salads. The restaurant was pretty busy our waitress took our order without writing anything down I kept on waiting for our salads to come but instead they had a family visitor with a baby and seemed to be entertaining her even though the restaurant was super busy I also heard the server say that there were two servers and two Cooks only we received our chicken Pad Thai the noodles were overcooked then we received our spicy catfish and our barbecue beef a few minutes later a woman came over with our salads she said you will not have to pay for these I will take them off your bill she never took them off our bill the catfish was so overcooked they must have fried it two or three times it was unable to eat my salad seemed to be put in a dirty Bowl cuz there was flat lettuce with a lot of dressing on the bottom of it and the barbecue beef was so tough I don't know if they had precooked it or what was going on but it was horrible we ended up paying the bill along with a 15% tip and when I left and said goodbye I got a dirty look from the older woman like it was my fault that the catfish was fried two or three times and they wouldn't replace it cuz server said that they had fried it all ahead of time very disappointing for a $58 bill and a 15% tip, how rude and shame on the restaurant.

Jaane F.

Yelp
I ordered to go food due to Coronavirus outbreak. I went inside and ordered lamb yellow curry and pork green curry. After ordering and payment, I left and went to shop for groceries. The staffs are really nice and can tell that they're family owned business. Both curry were really good! The lamb looks like got grilled with yellow curry. I like the lamb texture. I think the dish came with roti. Their roti was really crispy and yummy. The pork texture also smooth. The curry not spicy at all to us. My family and I had a very satisfied dinner. We decide to get more next time.

David A.

Yelp
Love the food! Great service with a smile.. they always remember me it seems! I love that

Nick B.

Yelp
I have been here a couple times since they opened and the food is always good. Friendly staff but don't expect much in the wine department.

W L.

Yelp
This review is based on two different visits. First visit was about month and half ago. Walked in for dinner and noticed it was quite busy. Ordered Thai basil eggplant and tofu and green curry. Both tasted fantastic and it was the first time in long time where I felt a good authentic restaurant in my backyard. The curry here must be a well known popular favorite. Almost every table had a curry dish hence my choice of trying it. The portion was good and so is the pricing. For this I have it 4+ stars. Recently visited and went back for lunch special. Ordered green curry, Thai basil eggplant with minced chicken, fried crab wontons, fried egg rolls and lemongrass with tofu. The taste for the eggplant and lemongrass was somewhat disappointing. The eggplant wasn't even close to my first visit. The green curry was on point. So this leaves me to visit for the third time in near future to ensure consistency and give the kitchen benefit of the doubt.

Colin R.

Yelp
After many years, this Thai place is still decent and the only Thai joint in the 'Dro. That's unfortunate because everyone loves Thai food! We haven't come here in a while so decided to drop in for late lunch yesterday. They close at 3 and let us in at 2:40pm. There was only another couple there at that time. We ordered from the lunch specials menu. Got the spicy catfish and the massaman peanut curry. Both opted for no rice and replaced with steamed veg instead ($1 extra but worth it!) Both were good but we'll try something else next time. Lunch specials come with small mixed salad. But no drink (like Thai ice tea) like other Thai joints nearby. Service was also very... nonexistent. They were keen to close I guess.
