5 museums in Asia-Pacific for your cultural fix - SilverKris
"Housed in a roughly 3,000 m² warehouse about 20 minutes from the city centre, this private museum—founded on the Bunnag-Beurdeley family collection in 2016—celebrates Chiang Mai’s role as a centre for art and culture. Permanent and rotating shows range from Lalan: The Cosmic Dance of the Paintbrush, a showcase of abstract watercolour work by Paris-based Chinese artist Lalan, to Patani Semasa, a commission featuring 27 contributors (photographers, architects and poets) responding to the violence in southern Thailand’s Patani province. Onsite amenities include the Kampangkaew Café serving Thai and international dishes and a shop selling rare artist books and limited-edition prints; nearby activities include temple visits, ethical elephant encounters at Elephant Nature Park and trips to the Sankampaeng Hot Springs." - Isabel Ong

"A contemporary art museum in Chiang Mai is presenting 'Temporal Topography', an exhibition that showcases the institution's recent acquisitions; the show runs until 30 March 2020." - Keren Lavelle
30 minutes from old town but worth it. Ticket just 200 thb. I took around 1.5 hrs to cover all exhibitions.
If you come to Sankampheng district for handicraft I recommend to stop here.

The museum hosts a collection of beautiful artworks by Thai artists, ranging from visually shocking to the abstract. The cafe inside was nice and not crowded. Location is rather remote from the old city centre. Recommend getting there using ride hailing app or car/bike rental services.

The museum was kinda far from the old city where we were staying but it didn’t disappoint. ARAYA RASDJARMREARNSOOK exhibition was eye opening, we really enjoyed it. Coffeeshop was pleasant and peaceful

The contemporary art museum of Chiang Mai is located outside of town and it's recognisable by its architecture and design from the exterior. It's a good afternoon to have if you are interested in modern art, it's not a big exhibition like in Bangkok but it's very well curated and going beyond the usual suspects. I had a impactful experience and will return.

Located on the main San Kamphaeng with a decent size car park. The café offers snacks and drinks in a comfortable restaurant that has a/c. Next to the café is a modern art gallery some may be interested to see. There is a ticket charge for the gallery.

I absolutely adore this museum. It really never misses with the exhibits, both permanent and temporary ones.
It’s a bit out of the city but it’s so worth, especially if you have a moped. 🏍️
Cute little gift shop.
