Great food, very nice presentation. And most importantly the food tastes great. Only item will need to be worked on will be rice (Rice have no flavor), but it works when all mixed with sauce.

As for the food, it was a bit of a letdown. The dishes we ordered lacked the flavor. It wasn’t bad, but it certainly didn’t have that wow factor my parents remembered from their previous visit. Given the restaurant’s reputation and the amount of traffic they were getting, I hoped for more consistency in the quality of food.

Really good quality and tasty food The chicken is so juicy, and the meat is so soft, really food gor friends, and family gathering We have been going to this location for years , and all Bakhtar locations are so good as well I tried fresh meadow, and it is good .. and the long island location is also good, but this is my favorite ♥️

I came and purchase a mixed tray for 8 people when I came home opened the salad tray I seen a dead roach 🪳inside the tomato this very disgusting and very unprofessional from the owner itself not to check after his employees this is a very serious matter I tried reaching out many many times and they kept telling me the manager is busy they’re customer service is very very low

The food here tastes pretty alright, but I probably wouldn't come back. The lamb is probably the best dish, but 5 pieces costs $19. The family combo is alright, but there are better places to eat.

Worse restaurant ever. First they give me issues with rice. I order the platter and they gave me white rice, second after asking multiple times for no qabuli they still put it and always mess up the order. I called to place an order the operator took the order and said order will be ready but never gave the order to make it. The worse restaurant ever. Charging for extra things when order is same. Worse customer service worse service never recommend this place ever!!!!

Ordered by Uber Eats. I ordered lamb kabab today for lunch as well baklava, ferni and pink tea. First, They messed up my order. Gave me one piece of lamb and everything else was beef. Ok, fine, I could have ate the beef and not waste food…BUT IT WAS DRY and some part of the beef was hard. What the heck? That’s not something you should serve anyone if you can’t cook it right. Why call your self a restaurant if you can’t cook the item you make? 😢 The dessert and tea was ok.

I ordered the beef kofta, chicken tikka, and lamb shank plate today. It looked like it was just leftovers heated again because everything was extremely dry. I am so disappointed because its not cheap; had been wanting to try this place for a while but sadly will never waste my money here again.

Love ordering take out or eating at this kabab house. The white and green sauce are always so tasty and the chicken is always cooked to perfection. Sometimes i get rice with my order depends on the mood. Consistent food quality!

Came here for a birthday and love the no frills down to earth vibe of bakhtar! The star is the food! Its so confusing figuring out which bakhtar is the original but I thought the serving size was great, we ordered huge sharing platters, family style and all the sauces were great. It's so nice to not feel greasy and bloated after eating. Staff was very kind. I wish they asked us what drinks we wanted and brought it from the fridge for us but no big deal. I heard the green tea wasn't turned on properly but we came early. Chai was great!

One of my favorite Afghan spots since childhood !! We always get the #33 family combo. They let you tweet the Kababs you want !! Comes in a tray good for 3-4 people. Very Affordable and Great !! Service - Fast , I call in advance and for pickup Ambiance- Nothing Fancy but HUGE spot They have a Hall you can rent as well !!

I love this place. I buy food from them all the time their food is so delicious every birthday occasions. I go there take food home. It's so good. I recommend this food for others. It's fresh and delicious.

Main Bakhtar is not accessible by subway, but is located right next to the Q44 in Flushing. The restaurant has plenty of seats and tables. It was empty when my friend and I visited. Most people order to go. They also do catering. Be sure to bring cash as it is cash only! I had the chicken qorma, and the lamb chops and chicken kebab plate. They come with rice and salad. The food was delicious, especially the lamb chops! The lamb chops are on the small side but they are nicely seasoned and grilled with some crispiness around the edges. The chicken kebab was also nicely grilled and not too dry. The chicken qorma was tender and there are lentils in the dish. The sauce is very tasty! I really enjoyed the slightly spicy and sour green sauce as well. The food was good but the service could be improved.

I'm no scientist but if you take the average of Turkish/Middle Eastern/Persian kebabs and divide by Pakistani/Indian/Bangladeshi kebabs, you'd get Afghan kebabs. Not as dry or mild in flavor as their neighbors to the West or as spicy as their neighbors to the East, I find Afghani kebab joints offer the most balanced and perfectly prepared kebabs, and Main Bakhtar are masterful in their contribution. You have several options of beef, chicken, or lamb skewers served over a bed of delicious long grain rice, a side of salad, some bread, and green and white sauces. The meats are succulent and juicy and packed with just enough flavor so they're not overpowering and your protein is the rightful star. I personally love the chicken tikka but am also a fan of their lamb chops and beef tikka as well; there are several combos to choose from so you can mix and match to your heart's desire. I like their rice and would recommend making it Qabili style by opting for the addition of carrots and raisins for a small upcharge, which will surely turn that like into love. The sauces on the side are perfect complements to the meats and the mildly spicy green sauce mixed with the pleasant white sauce is what dipping drams are made of. The "salad" is at best a garnish and consists of lettuce, a few slices or tomato, and perhaps 2-3 slices of cucumber. I wouldn't go to a salad joint and order a T-bone, so may be this isn't you should bookmark if you're a vegan and vegetarian because this is certainly a place meant for carnivores with very few non-meat dishes one of them being the bolani, which are large cheese and scallion stuffed flat dumplings that are flaky, crispy, and thankfully not overly greasy. The ferni dessert is also very delicious and a personal favorite but there are also several other house made dessert options on display from which you can choose from. I always call ahead and the food takes at least 20 minutes but it's always fresh and delicious! The staff are kind and friendly and I haven't had any issues over the course of my many visits. My biggest complaints are the lack of side dishes such as some Afghan style chickpeas, spinach, or okra, but considering how much food you get in each order and at such amazingly low prices, the value considering the portion sizes are perfect and an extra side dish would take you from being full and content to being disgustingly full and about to burst. Great food and always consistent! Definitely recommended!

Bakhtar on Main street is a place where you can get some delicious mouth watering kebabs for a bargain. The place may not look much from outside or inside, but the food here is amazing! When I first walked in I asked if this was operated by the same owner as the one located in Fresh Meadows. I was told emphatically NO! The process for ordering is simple. After placing your order find a seat and they will bring the food to your table when it's ready. The fridge is well stocked with beverages and you serve yourself. Once your meal is done you reconcile the bill at the cashier and tell them what you had to drink, sort of an honor system when it comes to the drinks, but they know the entrees you ordered. Our entrees were lamb, chicken and beef tikka. We also had the chicken kofta. Wow! The kebabs were juicy and delicious. The rice was fragrant and the texture was perfect. The tikka kebabs had a light char and the kofta was seasoned well as the coriander, turmeric and cumin came through in the kebabs. Alas, did I forget to mention the Awesome white and green sauce! I love that the sauce is dispensed in large squeeze bottles, you my friend have the power to squeeze away! The staff here were very friendly and since it was our 1st time here gave us a rice pudding (Phirni) and green tea on the house. My expression has always been "If it's free, it's for me!" I love the cardamom in the pudding and in the green tea as it wakes up and elevates the flavor of the food. TIP - There are pitchers of water in the fridge with 4 ounce plastic cups. The water is free so you can elect not to buy any drinks. Oh yeah, CASH only and they also have an ATM machine inside . I really enjoyed my meal here and excited to know they have party trays available to order. The parking situation outside is pretty good so finding a free and metered spot should be a breeze. Great place and looking forward to return with friends and family since the menu has many more items I would love to try. Until we meet again, Cheers!

Years ago, my husband and I would give so much of our money to this business. The food was flavorful and the quality was great. We would order from here numerous times for ourselves and our family. At one point they were the mecca of halal food and kebabs for restaurants. Sadly, we made the mistake of trying them again and was incredibly disappointed. In fact, this meal made me immediately filled with anger. The borani (pictured) was nothing but an empty shell. My husband and I wouldn't even allow our kids to eat this because it was nothing but fried pastry.The beef was hard, dry and flavorless so we ended up throwing it all away. The "lamb skewer" was one pathetic tiny piece of lamb. One tiny piece of lamb was 6 dollars. The rest of the meat was flavorless. I hate to write such a scathing review but this establishment should be ashamed of themselves for providing food like this. As a family who works hard for their money, it truly hurt me to spend so much money on such tasteless, cheaply made food. I dont know if the ownership has changed or this is yet another example of a restaurant becoming cheap and trying to exploit their customers. Stay away!!!! There are so many other halal kebab restaurants in Queens - spend your money elsewhere.

I never dined here before, but some of my Yelp friends have gave this place good reviews. I decided to order takeout from here via Doordash a few weeks ago. I only got the #1 Combination platter and it comes with beef kofta, lamb tikka, chicken tikka over rice. There's also bread and side salad. The meal is definitely 2-3 servings for myself. The food was OK and the meats were a bit dry for me that day. The white and green sauces helped give the meats some more flavor. The rice was tasty and I should have gotten another side order rice to eat with the leftover meats. Overall, I would give this place another try for takeout and order something different.

If you want to eat afghani food. Do not waste your $$$ here. It's ok not great Than there are people who love it, May be because of price cuz it's cheaper and you will realize it after you see the quality

Do not come here expecting a fancy sitdown, this looks a pretty causal place where you just order and eat so if you have a cheap date, this might be better than mcD. I had ordered the combination No. 1 for takeout which had 1 beef kofta, 1 lamb tikka and 1 chicken tikka w rice and salad, bread. While the meat is not as tender as some of the other Afghan restaurants I been to but for the price it's a very reasonable, tasty and the portions are great. Taste wise food is great 4 out of 5 Price and value 5 out of 5 Location is not near any subway so only way to get here is by bus or car.

The food is nice and hot and fresh and I recommend this place it is a 10/10. The service is also excellent and I will make sure to come back again.

Came here for the first time after having driven by a few times. It was lunchtime didn't want to have rice, ordered a Gyro. 7 and change all lettuce very little tasteless meat. I was hungry finished 3/4 of it. Not worth it at all. Also ordered a buklawa I took a bite and wanted no more, three dollars got me2 pieces not worth taking another bite. Just do not recommend this place.

I have dined , ordered take out from this place since 2014. The food is very tasty and the tea is delicious . It is not a fancy place but their food quality is good . My favorite dishes include the kebabs and koftas , mantoo and the biryani rice . I wish they had a place closer to my house . God bless this place and their family. I

This is our go to restaurant whenever we're craving some good afghan food, this place is on Main Street flushing. Their menu is pretty typical for an Afghan place, they have the usual chicken, lamb and beef with rice and some burgers as well. Sometimes the chicken comes out undercooked so I usually tell them to get it well done. Food wise this is 4 s Service wise, it's 0 Their servers are very unprofessional and lazy, they don't even have the courtesy to seat you and bring you menus. We recently went and the two servers were just sitting at the tables doing nothing, after I tried calling them to take our order, they sat around for another 10 mins before actually coming over, very inefficient! I hope the owner sees the reviews and improves the service, only then this would be a 5 star restaurant.

Man I had yhe chicken kofta beef n lamb tikka combo and it was absolutely delicious. Perfectly cooked and meat was oh so tender. Reminded me of bihari kebab. Not sure why the bead reveiws honestly it was a 10/10. I had bakhtar decades ago but recently back in town visiting. Buddy said they made veey tasty bbq and he was right! These guys had it down. Came out to ask how it was and mouth watering I replied amazing. Firni was good too. Will be back with family and friends.

Honestly it's what you get for the price. It's decent food. I wouldn't say it's the best I've ever had nor is it the worst. It's pretty good if you're in the neighborhood with not many options around ! I've been here plenty times and the food has stayed consistent.

I've been here numerous times over the past 4yrs, I almost always get #5; 2 beef koftas, which is always juicy, with rice and pita bread. I believe its $8 or $9. The chicken kofta and the chicken tandoori is really good too, although I prefer kofta over tandoori since I think pure chicken meat is too dry (anywhere, not just here). I love the firni ( I might've spelled it wrong) too! Its sweet and just a great dessert. They always give salad 1st (lettuce, tomato, cucumber). The white sauce is heavenly ( so good that my friend wanted to take the bottle home, lol)! I also love the green chile sauce! The cheeseburger is good too although it tastes more like a kofta than an American burger. Its different but I love it just as much as its western counterpart. The service is always good. However, our table was lacking napkins and a pitcher yesterday. Although, the place was packed & I'm sure the servers just forgot to place those items on our table and we didn't want to bother them as they were already way too busy. This is my go to Afghani place so I'll be back.

Incredible. Large portions, lots of mix and match options, and it's flavor-rich and well-priced. I was looking for kebab with veggies and rice -- all the fixings -- and it delivered.

This is probably the best halal restaurant I've been to. The chicken and lamb is so tender and the boolani is to die for. The compliment of flavors is supreme. And the rice is the best thing about the restaurant. The service is actually great here and the max time to wait is around 10 minutes but they give you a little salad for the wait. I usually get the lamb tikka and chicken tikka over rice and the boolani and I like it every time I've been here. I took about 10 friends here and with the exception of 2, they all liked it. The only reason I'm giving it four stars instead of five stars is because of the sauce. The white sauce tastes like ranch sauce and their green sauce is a bit spicy and I'm Korean (Koreans eat a lot of spicy foods). It's not your typical halal cart. But I think that that's the good thing about this restaurant. Oh and side note. There are a lot of muslims in this restaurant. So if you are a white supremacist or a trump supporter stay out...

Absolutely delicious! We've been in the neighborhood for years and this was the first time we ordered for pick up. We were having a family gathering so we ordered the largest rice platter for our party of 9. The meats were tender and juicy. Rice was fluffy and the carrots added to the flavors. There was plenty of food for all of us and we even had leftovers. Highly recommend! The only point is the way they packaged the order. The platter was in a large aluminum tray and they did not line the bottom with cardboard and it made transporting to the car extremely tricky without burning my hands. It was like playing hot potato and having to change hands supporting the tray to not get burned.

The Restaurant was quite empty for lunch time on a Sunday. However, I do take into consideration that This establishment seems more like a takeout place. However, the restaurant/sitting area is quite big. The prices were reasonable and the staff was friendly. We ordered the combo #1 Which was one chicken tikka, one lamb tikka, and one beef kofta platter. I was excited to see the sauce on the table, unlimited sauces! However, they served us the salad I tried the "white sauce" and it was ranch dressing. Bad ranch dressing. So I tried "the hot sauce" but it was ketchup. So disappointing. The only sauce that was authentic and edible was the spicy green sauce. The chicken was cooked pretty well, the lamb was extremely overcooked and dry, but the beef kofta was the best thing there. Unfortunately, there was no sauce. We asked them if they had "white sauce" and they said that's the white sauce on the table, and I said that's ranch dressing and they said "that is our white sauce". The rice was cooked well but without white sauce, it made the entire meal unenjoyable. I ate less than half of my platter and I took it to go, took it home, added some sour cream and made it better. (I didn't have any Tzaziki or tahini) I don't think I will be going back.

This was my first visit here, I always go to the other Bakhtar on Fresh Meadow Lane. These two restaurants have bad blood, cause they started as partners, but split. So I wanted to try everything I usually get plus the dishes they don't have at my usual place. I got the family combo, with lamb chops, mantoo, bolani, baklava, firni, and 2 mango lassies. All for $64.50. The mantoo and bolani were both very good, the other place doesn't have these two dishes. Also, I like that they have huge portions here as well. I gotta say the food here is good but there are differences. The green sauce here is spicy unlike the one at the other place, and they don't put a ton of carrots and raisins on the rice. But I do like that they have appetizers and baklava!

So good! Hands down my favorite afghani food place in queens, maybe even in nyc. And that's saying a lot because this is the only a place my husband will eat. My husband is not a fan of afghani food and he loves this place. I've taken him to many, many Afghan restaurants and he just wasn't a fan till this place. The white sauce is aaamazing. The meat is perfectly seasoned, the rice nice and cumini (not a word I know). The service isn't the best but that's typical for places like these. For food this good I don't mind bussing my own table. In fact this is the only place I'll eat lamb. Usually lamb is too gamey for me. Not here though, its perfect here. No smell at all. And that crusty on the outside soft on the inside Afghan bread. Mmm so good. I'm always excited to go back.

Legitimately the worst "Afghan" food ever. Worst customer service as well. We ordered for catering and confirmed with them many times and the day of - they FORGOT to make out food. Waited 2 hours outside the restaurant and drove 1.5 hours back home only to find out they made the wrong food and the owner isn't even willing to take responsibility. Save yourself the time & trouble. Don't ever go here and don't ever get catering from here. The food isn't even good

Hello my friends. So let me say this place makes good Afghani food. The chicken and meat kebabs are amazing the bread is okay and the sauces are good. If you like spice and I mean spice you have to try the green sauce. I took my food to go but it looks busy for where the location. The place does need a little loving. There is a fan by the kitchen counter that needs some cleaning. Couldn't get my eye off that. But whatever the food is good and they also have this yogurt drink it's really good. I tried the mango one the strawberry pineapple mango is okay. My friends you know keep it tasty and let me know what you think.

Ordered take out the other night. We all shared lamb chops, chicken tikka kabobs, chicken kofta, lamb tikka kabobs, with rice, afghan bread, sauces and salad. Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Big portions. Definitely will be coming back again. Service was fast and friendly.

Very good afghan/halal kababs & omg the rice is to die for. Do not forget the green sauce, always get extra with some extra onions & you have yourself a perfect meal under $10. Parking is pretty easy to find around the street, they have an ATM outside. Our fav is minced chicken & minced lamb & thats what we have been getting for over 6 years. The place is not the most hygenic to sit & eat right there, we always get it to go BUT who cares get the food & enjoy it at home.

We wanted to order some afgan kababs and found this place nearby. I placed the order and it took like 15 mins to get it. The service was quick and there food was fresh. The price is reasonable.

Amazing food, in gigantic proportions. My best friend and I came out here to have dinner. She had been raving about this place and so naturally I had to see for myself what the fuss was about. We trekked our way to the restaurant on a snowy day (yes, we're determined for our afghan food). The location was great because it was fairly easy to find parking (or maybe it was because of the snow storm?). The inside of the restaurant is nothing fancy. But definitely clean. We placed our order with a gentlemen, who was not very attentive the rest of our time there. But, what was comical was his response to us when we ordered the family platter (enough to feed 4-5 people). I explained that I was going to order a separate dish for my husband to take home, but then thought it would be better to order a combo pack, so we can try different meats and then take the rest home. He still shook his head and stared in astonishment. My friend and I laughed it off, thinking he doesn't understand how much we are capable of eating... Now, when the actually platter came out.. It was a sight to see! Several other tables even looked over to stare in disbelief.. But wait.. Where was our bolani?! He again took a moment to comprehend and asked "you still want bolani?!" . Yes please :) Haha, needless to say EVERYTHING we ordered was fantastic. And the leftovers... Oh boy, the leftovers fed my husband and 3 other people generously!

Do you like halal food? No not the $5.99 stuff you get from a cart in Midtown. I'm talking, real halal food. If you're looking for it, this is probably as good of a place as any. Pro tip : stick to the chicken. I got the #19 split combo (one beef, one chicken kebab) and while the beef is ok, the chicken is phenomenal. Smoky, grilled, perfectly tender, juicy chunks of chicken. I have no idea what they do to it, but it's worth the price of admission. $8.99 for a platter with more rice you can eat, 2 kebabs, a garden salad and a nice piece of bread. Make sure you tip the guys in the jar at the counter!

Woo...what a nice surprise. The wife wanted to hit Kabul Kabab on Main Street today for lunch but when we got there, we found out that they were closed for renovation. Worked out great for us. Food here was great although it was sort of no frills. If you want fancy, this probably isn't the place for you. If you want good halal at a really great price, come here. Beef kebabs were really flavorful. Rice was nicely cooked and seasoned. White yogurt sauce was spot on, just the right tang. Wife had chicken kabob and chicken tikka kabob, both of which were juicy and not dry. Sour cherry nectar to wash it down worked well. All this goodness for under 20 bucks. Will definitely come back. Tip - Not to be confused with Bakhter Halal Kabab on Fresh Meadows Lane. Owners are different although names are similar. Owner confirmed this and immediately asked me if I had eaten at "that other place" before. Sounds like they have a healthy kebab rivalry going on.

Stumbled upon this place by chance. Was looking for another restaurant but was closed at the time. Spacious place. Feels homey. Huge portions could've shared the 8.99$ platter. Tea was on the house. Service was pretty okay. Will come back! Nxt time will be sure to try the white sauce. Darn for it being 2$ extra though!

Very nice Kabab.Really authentic.Spices r used perfectly.U can taste the flavor of everything.I had a mix of kofta kabab,tikka and lamb chops.Its served with rice.Definitely recommended.

Brought here by a friend who has committed to eating Halal only. After numerously accidentally taking him to restaurants where he can't eat the carne, and feeling mightily guilty for repeating our mistake... we finally let him choose the restaurant. Our only regret is why didn't we do so earlier?! Mouthwatering koftas here. Great lamb chops. I thought they were under-salted before but with the white sauce, it was perfect. Rice with the qalbani (sq?) was superb. The yelper who recommended the boolani was spot on. Even the chicken nuggets were good. My toddler didn't care for it but it was delish to us. This deserves a return visit. Only lack is atmosphere. Very casual. But very kid friendly. We'll be back :)

Horrible food and horrible service! They over charge for every little thing ! There portions are so small also ! I cane with a few friends and all of them said the food and service was trash the place is like a high school cafeteria. Im indian and my other friends are from bagladesh and one friend from afghanistan but he looks indian and they were making fun of people and saying nazty things we called them out on this and they apologized but it still isnt rite to do STAY AWAY!!

When we entered the man gave us the menu at the door and told us to sit wherever. I've never been to a restaurant where you carry your own menu to your table. I wouldn't have thought so much of it if they did the same with the people who came after us who seems like they are from the same county as the workers. After we ordered the waiter brought the food but didn't bring water or soda(that we ordered) when we asked him about the soda he told us to just get it from the fridge. Well at least I didn't have to walk to the kitchen to bring out the food myself which is why I give it two starts. Also the food was good.

Food is always good here. I always was a fan of middle eastern place but this place is not bad. I don't know what main or not main is but if food is good then I'm there and trust me when I tell you there food is good. There ample amount of parking and service is nice as well. You will enjoy!!!

My brother asked me to go but some take out food from this restaurant for I have never been here before. The employee that was taking the order looked like he was over worked , he wS rude and lack customer service training. AT the counter there is a sign that says we only accept cash, I inquired if they take credit card, this rude guy said yes but you have to pay tax. I was like whoa, I pay tax all the time. He said if you pay cash they do not charge tax. In other words they are cheating the city. When .y tray of food arrived I asked if he has a bag to place the tray in because it is hot , this guy flew into a rage. He said first time someone is asking to place a tray in a bag. Bottom line this restaurant need to train their employees.

I come here often for takeout. I usually get the chicken Tikka and the lamb Tikka. The chicken is always cooked to perfection and is very moist and tender. The lamb is tasty and also tender. Their white sauce is great. Highly recommend them!

This places advertises itself as "cash only." But if you're willing to pay tax then they will accept credit/debit. The place didn't invest a lot in its decor. Looked like one of the many Indian restaurants in Jackson Heights. I guess it's suits their regular college/high school customer base. The prices are affordable compared to similar restaurants in the area. But the food itself is mediocre. For my first time visiting, I order their kofta/lamb/chicken kabab trio. They serve the dish with salad and bread. The salad was mainly lettuce and their bread was stale. The kababs itself were dry and not very flavorful and the rice was bland. Overall you're paying less for mediocre quality food.

This place is so delicious and the little kid is so friendly and caring the kid treats customers with all respect the food was delicious and the service was excellent when I walked in the little kid sat me down gave me menu when I walked in I recommend this place.
