Main Chick Hot Chicken

I got Skinny Chick Fries. It was okay. You can choose full order or 1/2 order. For toppings it has lettuce, jalapeños, tomatoes, onions, avocado, shredded cheese. I tried Cali Chick sauce and Italian Chick sauce and side of coleslaw and pickles. For side dishes it feels like it’s a bit over priced. Feels like you are paying for lie literally a spoonful of coleslaw and 4 slices of pickle in a tiny container. Other than that ingredients were fresh and the food was pretty good. 🥗🍟🥘🍔🍔🍔

I've been here a couple of times. Today, I ordered their combo #3 which comes with two sandwiches and fries. I got one mild and one medium. I preferred the mild one, not because I can't handle spicy food, but because the medium sandwich wasn't spicier; it just had more seasoning, which didn't enhance the flavor for me and made it slightly bitter. Despite that, it's a fantastic chicken sandwich. I've tried many chicken sandwiches, and this one easily ranks among my top 5 favorites.

The service was so good but honestly them the food a bit salty, if you request a mild sector, sealed spicy, it’s really spicy

When it comes to Halal Nashville Hot Chicken, Main Chick never disappoints. I'm unsure how they managed this, but the chicken is so much better than Dave's in every way. This is due to the texture, the seasoning, juiciness, etc. The value is also superb, and the portions are more than satisfactory. The fries are nice and crispy, while seasoned well, unlike Dave's, which is usually more greasy and they give a small handful. I typically have this delivered, but in person it was just as great, and the lady at the cashier was very friendly and helpful. The packaging is also very nice and unique, although I have once been cut by the staples that are on the bag, but that's my only gripe.

Really easy to order at the counter. I came here with a friend we split the Combo 6 - 2 dark meat sandwiches with fries, pickles and MC sauce, and Combo #4 - 6 Tenders, fries, pickles and MC Sauce). We got mild for both and you could still taste the kick so I’m glad we didn’t go up in spice level. I got some coleslaw but I should have not gotten it, it was super vinegary. Should have got the Mac and Cheese instead. MC sauce was great and all the food except for the coleslaw was really nice.

Fantastic chicken sandwich, although relatively high prices compared to other hot chicken places in San Diego. I spent around $17 for a chicken sandwich, more fried chicken, and the waffle fries + sauce. The waffle fries were also great, with a tremendous sauce going with them and the chicken. Overall, a good restaurant in Clairemont with great food, although relatively high prices.

I’m a local and have been here a few times and it’s been great, however, my brother visited and he said this is the best chicken sandwich he’s had. We both got medium flavor and it was HOT…and I love spicy. We weren’t crying but we easily slammed a few sodas LOL. Their fries are UNMATCHED. Whatever seasoning they use, and the crisp level, oh my goodness. Even reheated in the air fryer they were great. They always get my online orders correct and often send out discount codes for their returning customers. Definitely recommend getting extra sauce when ordering! They could be a bit more generous with the sauce but I feel that is most wing/sandwich joints now in days. I would recommend this over chick fil a if you want a juicier and crunchier chicken sandwich. Don’t let the prices scare you. This is San Diego and it’s 2023…spend the extra $2-3 it’s worth it!

We paid more than $100 for chicken sandwiches, these were extremely salty, EVERYTHING over all, fries,chicken,chicken sandwiches, to the point we couldn’t eat our food. It was our first time at this place, we will definitely never going back.

Chicken, sauce, and fries? Yes please! Main Chick Hot Chicken is a delicious chicken tender and fries place. It has different types of combos that has different amounts of tenders, crinked-cut fries, and sauce. They are reminiscent of Raising Canes but on another level! One tender is HUGE, and you can easily get full with the combo with 2-4 tenders, depending on your appetite. The fries are spicy with a kick, and the sauce that comes with it is mouthwatering. The service is good and there is not much of a wait on weekdays. You get your food pretty fast. You can also adjust the spice level to your liking, I prefer mild or naked.

Tenders: 5/5 Perfectly crispy! The seasoning is sweet and spicy and savory. And overall delicious! Sandwich: 3/5 The sandwich was incredibly underwhelming after having the tender. It tasted like bread with some coleslaw and chicken. I think the sandwich needs some sauce to pull it all together. Sauce: 2/5 This is the worst hot chicken sauce I have ever had. Fries: 5/5 Just like the tenders, perfectly crispy! And with just the right amount of seasoning.

Ordered combo 4 today, which comes with 6 strips of chicken tenders, fries, pickles, and 3 containers of sauces. With the addition of a drink we paid just around $35. They go nuts with the portions here! When the food came out I realized that we ordered way too much food. I think the combo with 3 tenders would have sufficed for the two of us. We got two huge plates, one with a pile of fries, and the other filled up with chicken. Each tender is a decent size and I was full after 2. As for the spice level, we ordered medium spice. I thought it tasted pretty mild, but I do have a high spice tolerance. There are just a few tables and seats available here, and most people were doing takeout, but I enjoy eating chicken as fresh as possible, and I had no complaints about the seating/atmosphere. It was clean and the service was friendly. I am docking a point because I think the food here is pretty salty. The fries and chicken are generously seasoned.

One of my favorite fried chicken places EVER. It's always freshly made (why the wait can be a little longer) and it's served to you right out of the kitchen. The chicken is so tender and has so much crisp. The sauce is perfectly sweet and savory to go with the chicken. The slaw is amazing and the sweet bun is the perfect counteract to the spicy chicken. I got the medium and that has my nose running so def be aware when you choose your level of spice. You get a free drink if you check in! The lady at the counter was so kind and gave us honey on the side when I forgot to ask for some! THEY ALSO HAVE HAPPY HOUR ON THE WEEKDAYS YOU GET TWO SANDWICHES FOR ONLY $9!

Main chick is my favorite spot to eat at in San Diego! The food never disappoints, the service is great even when super busy. The ambiance is great as well.

Unfortunately, got this place takeout so I can't assess it's pure in dining experience/potential. However, even even take out the chicken was still crispy even though I let it sit out for a little bit, great juicy flavors soft wall texture. Tried to assortment of things, including their chicken, fried chicken sandwich, fries, Cheesecake. Fries were in great condition getting it was takeout, still with a slight crisp left, and I really really like the seasoning on them. Cheesecake was a surprise treat - I didn't think that it would be that good coming from fried chicken restaurant. Really soft, bouncy, ube-y LOL. Caveat was that we got this as food delivery on Valentine's Day, and they were super super busy so the driver had to wait about 30 to 45 minutes waiting for the food. I didn't feel like this warranted. I didnt dock a star though despite this because fried chicken when fried fresh should take at least 25 minutes by itself.

I ordered combo #3 for take out. I used to really like Dave's hot chicken when they were in the parking lot , however their quality declined after they become big. I like main chick over Dave's, their combo is very reasonably priced, and good quality. Definitely I will order again!

I'd give a zero if I could. I'm of the opinion if you are charging $20 for a chicken sandwich, which is pretty tasty by the way, you should give your loyal customer a cup for water. I'll never eat here again for that reason and will tell everyone I know how horrible and expensive the food is.

There are so many fried chicken sandwich places these days that it's hard to determine which ones the best. We went off of the reviews and we're not disappointed. The chicken was crisp and juicy. The buns were great. The slaw was great. The service was wonderful, the lady that takes the orders is a real gem, we absolutely loved her! I have to say that there is a warning that comes with this place, the spiciness is out of control we got medium and it was firecracker hot and we used to eating hot sauce. If you like it really hot, I'd probably just get medium. If you like it with just a smidge of hot I would go with the second level I'm even concerned that the mild might have heat because the french fries had a little bit of heat. French fries were absolutely delicious with their spice and crunchiness the sauce that they serve is phenomenal, I give this place 4.5 stars just for the fact that it's kind of fast foodie and the spice is a little bit hotter than advertised.

LOVED IT! Chicken was so juicy and the medium spice was just the perfect amount of spice! I think the coleslaw was a perfect addition to the sandwich. The fries were also delicious and well seasoned! I would ask for extra sauce though, because it's very good (the sandwich has plenty, but it's great with the fries). I would definitely come again :)

Delicious chicken sandwich and loved the crinkled cut fries. I would rank Main chicken as my favorite of all the chicken sandwich restaurants. I just wish there was more locations in SD.

Ordered the standard that comes with 2 sandwiches and fries, then last second decisions to order mac and cheese. First, the mac and cheese, it tasted watered down with subtle taste of cheese. Unfortunately, it wasn't too impressive. I saw that noodles swimming in the cheese sauce, and wanted to dip my sandwich in, but changed my mind after tasting the mac and cheese. As for the sandwiches, the spice was decent, had a nice spice to it, and the chicken was cooked pretty good. As for the fries, it was a hit or miss with some fries. Some were tough and dry and other pieces were crispy and moist. I wanted to like this place, especially with all chicken sandwich places opening, but after this order I will have to pass.

It's similar to Dave's hot chicken our go to is the combo #3 2 chicken sandwiches, fries and Mc sauce. The sandwiches are slider size topped with slaw and pickles the spicy level hotness is perfect they put a Cajun seasoning on the crinkle fries that adds a nice taste. The habanero honey needs tweaking it tastes like honey with bits of habanero. Mc sauce and ranch are a must on the sandwiches. A 4 star because their consistency varies as far as portion and how spicy the chicken is other than that it's usually really good. Overall I would recommend eating here the food and service is good.

Ugh it makes me sad to write this review because I love main chick but the online ordering experience was not it! I placed an online order through their website, and it led me to Chownow, their third-party service. I received a "thank you for your order" email around 4:08 pm. However, upon arriving at the store, things got a bit confusing. The worker explained they hadn't received my Chownow order and typically workers handle the situation fairly well (ex. check my email order and asked the kitchen to start the order) but instead, I got responses that didn't really help, and when I asked about my food, the worker recommended I contact Chownow LOL. Not sure if she was new or overstimulated by other customers waiting to order but the service was not it lol :( 2 stars for chownow's quick corporation + main chick for actually refunding me Will have to come back again a different time to satisfy my craving

Awesome spot! The SD location doesn't skimp when it comes to amount of food. I had a big order of 6 different combos and they were nice enough to include extra tenders in each combo since some were smaller than others. This was a huge surprise as the location in Woodland Hills just gives u small pieces and don't seem to care. If you get the 3 tender piece combo, more likely than not, you'll actually get 5 pieces! Thank you to this location and putting your customers first. 10/10 would recommend coming here

The chicken sandwich was pretty good, fries were also good. However there was hardly any slaw on the sandwich. I had to lift the top bun to look for it, and where were my side pickles shown in the Combo #1 picture? The heat level was spot on for "spicy" and the chicken temperature was almost too hot to eat (which is good because I know it just came out of the fryer). Service was OK. Not sure why there was mariachi music blasting at the counter. Is this a theme of the restaurant? Prices seem high, $20 for lunch with a drink! Compared to Dave's, I think Dave's wins because the portions of ingredients were better and I liked the breading crunch of Dave's, and the abundance of side pickles.

Get this for my daughter frequently. She orders the combination number 2, with no pickles. She orders it mild b/c the spice rub can be intense. I love pickles.

This place has been on my radar for a while now. I'm glad I finally got a chance to try it out. Main Chick is located in Clairemont Square, in the food court area, next to the movie theater. Easy enough to find and no problem with parking. The place has a small dining area, but there is also seating outside in the general food court area. I looked up the combos before hand, so knew what I wanted to order. I ordered the combo with the chicken sandwich, chicken tender, and fries. Hot, juicy, and tender chicken. Not lacking in batter or overly battered, for me it was perfectly battered and had a nice crispiness and I loved the dry rub or whatever they seasoned the chicken with. The chicken sandwich was basically that delicious chicken tender and two lightly toasted buns with cole slaw. It had me thinking, man this is pretty good! As far as spice level, naked seems to be mild spice and I think mild is probably medium. So naked is truly not naked. I usually order the lowest spice level before advancing. Next time, I'll probably go with mild. The fries are crinkle cut and were pretty good also. I believe they sprinkle the same dry rub they use on the chicken on the fries. Nice crisp texture and flavor. Service was good. The woman at the counter was pleasant, friendly, and answered my questions. I really enjoyed the food here. I'm a fan and will definitely return. Interestingly, I found out that there is another location that is closer to me down Linda Vista Road. So I'll probably try that location next time I'm craving some delicious chicken. Idk y'all, I'm not about Main Chick. Maybe it's the long wait times or the lack of FLAVOR with their spices, but I'ma keep looking for my SD/Nash hot chicken. Ordered takeout on a weekday evening for two, and the website was super easy to navigate. We got two combos, 1 and 3 and waited until the anticipated wait time (which was a solid 30 mins from ordering). We were surprised, but maybe it was busier than we thought. I had to wait an extra 15 mins when I was there, and it seemed like there were 5 other parties waiting for their to-go order, which was interesting. The texture of the chicken was great, juicy and tender! But honestly the spice could use some work. The levels of heat were a nice touch, but with the mild and medium spice levels, there was like...no flavor just heat. We were kinda disappointed. I would definitely like some korean fried chicken compared to Main chick. The fries were a nice touch, crinkle-cut isn't my fave but they were tasty and a nice "side." In all, I'd skip Main Chick. Onto the next Nash chicken joint.

I WOULD GIVE THIS ZERO STARS IF I COULD!!! The food is okay. The service blows ass. We ordered 100 dollars worth of food, and when we didn't receive our entire order, we were accused of stealing. And to top it off, It's going to take several days before I get my money back. The cashier was rude and told us to calm down when we weren't even raising our voices. I'm sure our returned food is going to be resold to a future customer. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! What a waste of time ‍‍

Love this place!! Great spot if you want to grab a casual dinner before/after a movie. We got the Combo 2 with a side of Mac n cheese, which was plenty of food for 2 people. Loved the chicken sandwich. Got medium spicy level, but next time I come I want to try spicier. We got a side of hot honey and put that on the sandwiches along with some of the MC sauce, which was so good. Fries look mid but actually taste great. I really liked the mac but my only complaint is that it was a little watery. Will definitely come back here!

Went here with my friend, we ordered the two chicken sandwich combo with seasoned fries, fairly good portion, and everything was done to perfection. The chicken was crunchy, crispy, finger-lickin good! Super moist...the fries were seasoned deliciously and was sweet and salty savory. Everything was crispy and not oily at all. Perfection. The customer service was on point, the sauce was good, and food came out in an efficient amount of time despite it being the dinner hour. One of the TOP hot chicken places in San Diego!

Was excited to try this place as I've been told it's a contender to another chicken place around. The food was good but the size of the chicken was disappointing. We ordered a combo #3 which consisted of 2 sandwiches, crinkle fries and their signature sauce. One chicken was visibly smaller than the other one in the same order. The buns are soft and the fries good. I did check in to get a free fountain drink which was cool.. They have some seating inside and outside as well.

Came on a Sunday and ordered for pickup. We ended up waiting 10 minutes more than what we were quoted but it was pretty busy. We got the #1 combo (sandwich, tender, fries and sauce), and an extra sandwich at the medium spice level. They have a decent amount of both indoor and outdoor seating but it a lot of people were doing takeout. Overall very impressed. The heat level was perfect, present but not overwhelming. Didn't need to blow my nose after eating it. The chicken was super moist, nice crispy from the breading and a good flavor. The only knock on it was the coleslaw. It was pretty sad. Pretty much only cabbage that was not crisp and not flavored. The fries were plentiful and well seasoned too. The tender is the the same piece of chicken that's in the sandwich, just without the slaw and bread.

I'm a recent convert to Nashville-style hot chicken sandwiches, with my first exposure at Dave's Hot Chicken. Being me, I sought to try other hot chicken restaurants in San Diego; how do they compare with my 5-star experience at Dave's? I can't taste the difference between Main Chick and Dave's, and given that the price is about the same, Main Chick deserves the same 5 stars. If you're skeptical about the hype, I was too. But it turns out that the simple combination of hot chicken, coleslaw, pickles, and Hawaiian bread is the Platonic ideal of sweet, spicy, savory, and tangy. I now crave hot chicken sandwiches (for better or worse) and you will too! Pro-tip: If your heat tolerance is average, I suggest a heat level of Medium (Main Chick is hotter than Dave's). This will maximize flavor without being so hot that it overwhelms your taste buds; that tingling sensation also complements the sandwich.

This is a nice meal to have after watching a movie! This has become my new favorite fried chicken spot. It's a small place but there's seating outside as well. Service is fast I've always gotten my order within 10 minutes even if there is a line. I would recommend ordering Combo #5 because it's the most bang for your buck. Splitting this between two people is definitely filling! Their sauce is delicious. I would recommend ordering medium spice for a little heat because mild doesn't do too much. This fried chicken joint is one of the few places that serves Hawaiian bread with their meals and it's just *chefs kiss*.

So delicious!! Had an amazing experience trying main chick! The chicken is all breast and high quality. They do offer dark meat chicken as well. I got combo #1 with a Medium Spice. I expected it to be spicer than it was. My suggestion is if you're not a big salt fan order the fries unseasoned. Also order honey on the side to dip your chicken in! The sandwich looks small but is filling and so good!! They do offer hot honey on the menu however it's still not available until June/july. There's also a bunch of parking at this location and a few outdoor and indoor spots to dine in.

It was delicious, but it was so greasy! I kinda prefer the taste of the tenders and the sauce to the other ones I have tried so far, but quality-wise, I was not impressed.

I have visited this place 2 times. Both times, the to go order came out in a timely manner and were still hot when I got home. The interior was nice and clean but haven't dined in. The sauce was great and flavorful. Will be coming back and recommending this place.

Love the place every time I come to Main chick i order the delicious combo number 1 and get my fountain drink lemonade But they changed the lemonade :( To what you may ask iced tea... raspberry Oh but the lady who took my order was amazing! 10/10

this food place is highly underrated and so good. i have been a loyal main chick customer for about 1 year now and it is my favorite chicken place. the fries are really good and especially the chicken sandwich. all of the employees are really sweet and sometimes give an extra free thing out. 10/10 service and love the vibes here i recommend coming

After you spend $17. On a combo meal they have the audacity to charge you .85 cents for a tiny ranch . Even if you just want one only . After discussing the ranch policy The manager at this locations then refused to give me a water cup and to make herself clear she doesn't care about customers told me I couldn't have anymore ketchup she gave me 5 total what a scam . I've already been disappointed in the past because the consistency of the food and overcooking or soggy fries or too spicy overtime I go it's different and more and more disappointing. Service is discombobulated and you never know if it's with it after you eat there . Needs lots of work and to care about the customers not just their profits . I'd stay away from this place on basic principles of spending your money at a place that cares about their food and how it tastes to the people who buy it !

The chicken leg quarters are amazing and the ube cheesecake was the perfect dessert!!

I'll preface this by saying that I work in the area, I've eaten here several times, and their chicken is good. I was looking forward to having it for lunch again today... HOWEVER, the snarky sign plastered on the register saying "No water cups, and no that's not illegal :)" makes it clear that they are not interested in my business. Offering water to people spending money at your restaurant is not an unreasonable or difficult request, especially when the only sugar-free beverage option that you sell is out of order. And it's CERTAINLY not something to be proud of, or to advertise in such a mean-spirited way. If they are happy cutting corners on something this basic and innocuous, one wonders what other areas may also be unimportant to them when it comes to customer service.

i used to love main chick but this was TERRIBLE. they messed up my order twice, giving us medium instead of mild. then, once we asked for a remake, they decided to give us NAKED chicken. don't go here. does this look mild to you?

LOVE this place, it really hits the spot and satisfies your french fry and fried chicken craving. Perfect to pair with your night at the Reading Cinema -- in fact, their food comes in a super convenient and compact take-out box, almost as if it were designed to be snuck into the movies... Of note, can be crowded in the evenings. We waited around 25 min for our order despite being told it would take around 15 min, so I would recommend ordering online in advance especially if you've got a movie to catch. I went with the classic combo #1 and loved every part of it. Crinkle cut fries were well seasoned and their complementary sauce was amazing. Chicken was just the right amount of salty and juicy. You can tailor the spiciness when you order to your tastes. Small amount of indoor seating and outdoor seating. Big lot with ample parking. 10/10 will definitely come back!

I've been here a few times now and I'm quite impressed by this place. The service is great, parking is easy and the food always comes out fast. The portion sizes are great. The fries are so flavorful and the chicken has the perfect amount of kick to it. My only suggestion is adding more slaw to the chicken sandwiches.

Holy crap, I'm a chicken sandwich lover but unfortunately have found myself choosing convenience through chik fil a. However, his is 100% my new go to spot--the value is unbeatable, the food is absolutely phenomenal, and as a Mexican who loves spice, when they say hot...they mean hellfire and heartburn hot (but I'm not even mad by any means). I absolutely love ordering the sandwich + tender combo -- I devour the sandwich and have some fries to fill me up for a while, then get to look forward to the leftovers later because the chicken tender keeps so well. Do yourself a favor (or should I say *flavor*) and try it. You will not be disappointed!!

Super yum. Everything was so good. The chicken sandwich - simple with pickles, coleslaw (which I didn't get,) the chicken with the spice level you request and their special MC sauce (which I got on the side.). The bun was good, the sauce was good and great for the chicken as well as dipping the fries. The chicken was delicious. I got the dark meat which was awesome. I never get to have a dark meat fried chicken sandwich. That in itself is worth coming back for! Chicken tenders - you get to choose your spice level. My BF got "spicy" and I got "mild." My level was good for me, because I wanted to taste more of the chicken for my sandwich and tender. He loved the spicy, it was spicy but not burn your face off, but said he may go up the extra level next time. The fries - seasoned crinkle cut fries. Very tasty and good to dip into the MC Sauce. Mac & cheese - Oh. My. God. So creamy. So cheesy. It was amazing. I loved it. I must get it every time. The staff were super cool and nice. When an unfortunate act of nature ruined one of our beverages, they were happy to help and make it right even though we didn't ask. So great!!! We totally will be coming back!

Fire chicken sandwiches if you dare to be so inclined! Mac & cheese is a nice complement but make sure to have plenty to drink if you are going at it alone. It'll hurt so good with tears coming out of your eyes. Would certainly come back again & absolutely recommend to a friend.

Front of the house staff are awful! Super rude, roll their eyes for basic requests. Watch you receipts! I was charged for 4 beers when I only ordered 1. When I went back to cashier to ask for refund I was greeted with bad attitude and not one apology for charging me close to $50 worth of beers. Food is just ok. Also was missing my Mac and cheese from my order, so had to ask for that. I've have had multiple experiences like this that past 3 times I've been for simple take out. Love the Mac and cheese but not worth the attitude from cashier(s). I am lucky to live in a city like San Diego with multiple places to choose from. Main Chick will no longer be on my list of places to go. Too many places working really hard with great food and staff to accommodate customers. Unfortunately this is not one that is super customer friendly.

Yum! This spot has been on my list for awhile now and I'm happy to have finally tried it because it was delicious! We ordered combo #1 which is one slider, one tender, and fries. We also ordered combo #6 which was 2 dark meat sandwiches and fries. We didn't realize it was going to be 2 sandwiches for #6 so it was a surprise! I can't quite decide which sandwich I liked more. The dark meat sandwiches were definitely way crunchier and the regular slider was also really good. I would definitely pick the sandwiches over the tenders. Fries were plentiful. It would be great if they had a combo with a regular slider and a dark meat sandwich. We probably could have got away just sharing a single combo given how much food there was. Also, definitely add honey in the sandwiches. It ina great compliment. Boo for having a Pepsi instead of coke machine haha. Nice outdoor seating as well.

Absolutely delicious chicken sandwich that you can customize the heat level to your preference. Especially what I like to in addition to the sandwich was the side of fries which were done really well and seasoned well. Really don't have a bad thing to say about them and I definitely would come back.
