This dairy pizzeria and ice cream shop moved into the historic Gulliver’s building, a story covered by Block Club Chicago. It’s cRc-certified and loved for pies, pastas, and post-game slices with plenty of seating.

This place is disgusting!! The food is over priced and teased disgusting. The service is just as bad. They are so cheap with their plates, napkins cups, is you need more then one I would recommend bringing your own from home because they won’t give you one. I bought a pie of pizza for my children, so I had the pie cut into squares. My kids only ate 4 squares so I boxed up the rest to give to the homeless man on the corner. I accidentally left the box at the store, so I called them to let them know that I will be by to pick it up. They told me that they throw it out and they will not replace it. They probably put it in the microwave and sold it another customer. I wouldn’t recommend this pizza shop to anybody.

Honestly wasn’t sure what to expect. I’ve driven by this place on my way to Target for the last 3 years. The pizza slices I got were on point. Sweet sauce, good under carriage, tasty indeed. Will come back again.

Best fish and chips in town hands down! Real authentic British style (like Folmans on Brent Street for my fellow Brits to compare) sooo so good!

Google
Great kosher pizza place! They also have a great salad bar and ice cream. Highly recommend if your looking for a kosher pizza place in Chicago.

Google
Opinions written by my 10 yr old son :). Great kosher pizza place! The pizza is good, although I recommend having it when it's fresh. My other favorite food is their Chalavi Mac& cheese. There is also another type of Mac& cheese called Main Mac & cheese, with a red sauce and cheese. The chalavi Mac& cheese is drowning in a cheese sauce, in a good way. It's amazing. Another really good thing is their cheddar fries, although again, I like it only fresh. An important thing to realize- they sometimes close at 7 and sometimes 7:30- no way to find out except calling- and they stop allowing dine in exactly 30 min prior. Even if you were standing at counter at 6:30 about to order... So safest to call ahead if you plan anything for 6 or later so you know what to expect. Other than that issue , pretty good overall.

Great location. The food was very good. I had their pizza and the soup, and both were delicious. The service was quick and friendly.

Google
Amazing pizza and maybe better fries. Everything is made in houe including the sauce, and the fries are made fresh with the skin still on 🤤 When I complimented the cook (sweetheart) he seemed prouder of the fries than the pizza lol Salads are fresh with plentiful options starting with choices of spinach, kale, romaine. Try their milkshakes. The fries portion is generous: get one and share it easily amongst 2. You don't go here for ambiance, the staff are bored but friendly- you go here to leave with a happy kosher tummy and to take some cute pics of the fam.

Google
Superb customer service. Big portions, great prices, and fresh, delicious food. Family-friendly environment with lots of seating available. Very welcoming atmosphere. I couldn't decide what to eat, but I will be coming back soon anyways :) Everyone else's food looked very good. Popular neighborhood place. You can tell it is loved by many people.

Yelp
The food was great. BUT The woman behind the counter was so irresponsible and disrespectful to her Jewish employee. She treated him so bad if I was that employee., I would no longer want to work there. I will never come back to Main Pizza again. Because of how he was treated. Have a great day.

Yelp
Have a great day please come join us. Food is amazing we love to see you here

Yelp
I usually give high reviews but I just can't when it comes to this. We used to come here every so often, but we came back here and realized they changed locations so we went there, and I now can say that I have seen the most ugly pizza shop. I usually don't judge that much, but I felt like I was in my grandma's old 1900's basement. The food, I won't lie was really good, but we couldn't eat there, just because of the looks. They need to renovate it. I recommend taking out food from here. The food is great but the place is not.

Yelp
The food was quite bad. They seemed to use bullion seasoning in everything - from the pizza to the Mac and cheese to even the salad. This was one of the worst restaurants I've ever been to. The service was fine, but the food was barely edible.

Yelp
The staff aren't the best but they get the job done. The pizza is pretty good and they offer stuffed crust. For all of us cheese lovers. This place is kosher that means that there is no meat toppings to add to the pizza. Its kind of like a vegetarian opened a pizza place and only serves things they would eat. For kosher pizza this place gets 5 stars For service this place gets 2 stars For speed of orders being fulfilled 4 stars For Parking this place gets 5 stars For covid 19 protocol this place gets 5 stars For cleanliness this place gets 5 stars I am not a food critic my opinion is based on my own preference.

Yelp
Great food ! This is the deep dish wasn't what I was expecting as I thought it was Chicago style but it was just an extra thick crusted pizza. The pizza was delicious and the root beer floats we got were out of this world ! Highly recommend.
google avatar

Shari W.

Yelp
I give it one star for convenience, because, honestly, I'd give the food no stats if I could. (Except for the greek salad which was decent.) Hands down the worst pizza I have ever had. What's up with the sickeningly sweet sauce? Do they just put ketchup on the pizza? And the pasta is boiled to complete mush. Downright awful. Demand better people!

Yelp
So let me start by giving you some history of this place. Many many years ago this pizza shop opened on main Street not to fare from Crawford. They made the best kosher pizza in Chicago. So then they opened a second location on touhy near Sacramento. At some point the location on main by Crawford was closed down. A few years back the owner purchased the land that the restaurant sits on now. It was a long a grueling process to get the permits and finally approval to open up. Now about the food. I have always been a huge fan of the ice cream. When it comes to there food there is noting that I would call amazing. Most of there stuff is good but not amazing. The staff are great yehuda and yeruchem have always been helpful and they always seem to be working hard. I like the parking situation now. Sorry I don't have much more to add i hope this was helpful.

Yelp
I came in with friends and it was not busy due to it being late I guess. We took a few minutes to look over the menu and order. My one friend went to get some water for all of us and noticed the water was low. When she ask the first time she was told they were closing soon . This was a little before 7 . We did get more water eventually after asking another worker. My friend ordered the Falafel and only got a half a pita for 10 falafel balls . They didn;t even cut up the lettuce or other stuff that came with it. On top of all this they packed it all to go without even asking us .We were eating there. The rest of the food was good so this is why I give it 3 stars. The people here are rude and rudeness does not make people want to eat at an establishment.
google avatar

Claire T.

Yelp
The people who work at this establishment are incredibly rude. I have ordered from them multiple times and every time I speak to them on the phone, they are unbelievably rude to me. The food is not good enough to make the horrible service worth it.

JeJud G.

Yelp
I ordered cheese fries and salmon. I'm gluten free so I wanted something gluten free. The fries were undone, the cheese had GLUTEN noodles in it, and the salmon, they ruined it. It takes real talent to ruin salmon. So, on that note, safe to say I'm not going back there.

Yelp
Today was the first time my fiance & I have been in this pizzeria. It is very small and lacking decor; very plain and simple. It was quite busy when we visited and there were not many tables available. Those that were available were dirty. It was somewhat unkept, which I attribute to being busy and not having enough staff to clean up. I hope that is the case. It would behoove them to always send out staff to wipe down tables and chairs, pick up garbage on the floor, etc... Because of this, we took our pizza slices to go. We each had cheese pizza, no veg. I liked the pizza well enough. The man who waited on us was polite, nice. There were people of all ages here, from toddlers to older grandparents. They seemed to enjoy their time, so I would definitely return and try it again. Maybe it will be better?

Yelp
Still good! Love this place. My go-to place for kosher pizza North of Devon!

Yelp
Reasons to come here: Delicious food, service with a smile, excellent pre-sales assistance, generous portions, reasonable prices. Did I remember to mention delicious food? Reason not to come here: If you're expecting a gourmet dining experience, you might want to look elsewhere. This restaurant is about pizza, wraps, fries, soups, salads and other generally short order fair. You order, pick up your food at the counter shortly afterwards, and either carry it to a table or take it out with you. If you want to speed things up, call on the phone and order ahead. If you want menu options with French names, food made by a celebrity chef, fancy presentation and service by a formally-dressed waiter, that's what upscale restaurants are for. I'm giving Main Pizza Chalavi five stars because they're terrific at being a down-to-earth, easy-to-understand eatery where you can fill your belly with something tasty and have money left in your wallet when you're done. I stopped by Main Pizza Chalavi today because they were on my way between clients' offices, and I needed to grab lunch in a hurry between visits. My server recommended a wrap, saying it would travel well and could be eaten on the go without making a mess. He even offered some suggestions for how to make sure it would not make a mess. Sounds strange, I know, but that happened to be exactly the advice I needed at the time, so I applaud him for being so perceptive. I ordered an egg and cheese wrap with fries on the side, to go. My lunch was ready in about 5 minutes. The wrap was quite generous in size, about 10 inches across and maybe 3 inches in diameter, generously stuffed with scrambled egg omelet-style and plenty of gooey cheese. It was expertly wrapped, which minimized leaking (remember, I wanted something I could eat on the go) and cut in half lenghwise for easier handling. The wrapping bread was similar to Israeli lafa - thicker than a tortilla, much more pliable than pita and lusciously soft. It was packed with freshly-cooked egg and cheese goodness. The volume of fries was at least equal to the volume of the wrap. Ask five different people how they like their fries, and you'll get five different answers. Personally, I prefer mine crispy and brown. The fries that came with my lunch were somewhat greasier than I consider ideal, but they were browned to perfection and bursting with earthy, fried potato flavor. Healthy? Not so much. Decadently delicious and filling? You bet! My advice: Ignore the naysayers and give Main Pizza Chalavi a try. I'm sure you'll be glad you did.

Yelp
As a Baal Teshuva (recently Orthodox Jew), I have experienced the ability to dine out easily; that is, when there is no shortage of restaurants. Unfortunately, keeping kosher in Chicago means that your restaurant choices are extremely limited. Still, I try to remember what it was like to eat at non-kosher restaurants, including the service, cleanliness and food quality that I came to expect. By each of these standards, Chalavi was a pathetic and putrid attempt at a culinary experience. The decor was horrific; an empty, potentially dirty metallic buffet stood at the restaurant's entrance with a wall of booster chairs. What a way to welcome customers. The fluorescent lighting didn't meld well with the lack of temperature control (the room was freezing) and there was an incongruous corner display of tacky artwork and children's games located along one of the walls. The food, however, could have been promising. There was an extensive dairy menu of paninis and pizza, omelettes and pasta. I ordered the Nacho Plate and a French Onion soup. The soup tasted at though it were straight from a bad soup mix. It also tasted as though it had been reheated- multiple times- to the point of being slightly burnt and off-flavor. The Nacho Plate had a pulpy, artificially-flavored cheddar cheese sauce in a tiny container; refried beans in a tiny container; and guacamole and salsa in- you guessed it- tiny containers. The nacho chips were processed and clearly store-bought. Please, make a statement to the Jewish community that just because we keep kosher doesn't mean we have subpar dining standards. We expect to be treated like all other restaurant patrons- with courtesy, cleanliness and respect for our dining experience overall. Do not go to Chalavi unless they rapidly improve their performance. If they don't, please don't go at all.

Yelp
Chalavi is a great inexpensive, informal (order counter) kosher dairy restaurant in the heart of West Rogers Park. There is free street parking in front of the restaurant on Touhy and around the corner on Sacramento. The restaurant has a few marked spaces in a small lot immediately to the west (on the right, facing the restaurant). I ordered grilled cheese and fries, which I enjoyed very much. The menu has soups, salads, potato and cole slaw side orders, wraps, paninis, sandwiches, bagels, pasta, calzones, fish and pizza. Also breakfast (eggs, hash browns, waffles, French toast) is served all day--an added plus! Very reasonably priced. Note: Since Chalavi is certified kosher dairy, there are no meat options. I very enthusiastically recommend this small eatery.

Yelp
First of all, not sure why I bother reviewing this-- YELP will FILTER it like the other NINE FILTERED REVIEWS HOWEVER... its a GREAT place delicious food great service nice employees the prices are a little HIGH but they make up for it in the quality of the food- and the service I love this place and wish we could eat here more often

Yelp
Eh... The good: basically it's the only kosher restaurant on Touhy Ave so they get an extra star for convenience. There's also a salad bar. The not as good: Generally the food is mediocre on its best day. Fries are always soggy and flavorless. Pizza crust is thick and bland while the sauce is sweet and childish. The odd setup of the restaurant matched with the overall odd interaction from the staff makes for a less than positive customer experience. The lighting and general dingy decor isn't helping. I could go on but I'll spare you. In my opinion this place is only in business because they're the only player in this part of West Rogers Park.

Levi B.

Yelp
Poor service and food. I went there recently on a Sunday afternoon with my wife and two children. The tables were filthy (no one was clearing up after people.) I had to clean a dirty table when in order to sit down. My wife's falafel was a sad joke -- they just stuffed falafel balls, romaine, and pickle ends stuffed in a pita. Pizza is in my opinion is okay -- not much else worth to this place.
google avatar

Yerachmiel B.

Yelp
Probably the best kosher pizza in the Chicago area right now. EJ's is good, but not as good as Main/Chalavi. The salad bar is excellent as well. @Manya - Seriously? I'll give you a pass in that you admit to being a new B-T. You went to a pizza joint and ordered Nachos?!? Enough said. Try the pizza next time. And as I explained to my wife when we started keeping kosher 18+ Years ago - Kosher doesn't mean clean pretty restaurants, It means supervised Kosher food. As you mentioned - It's hard enough eating out Kosher in Chicago as it is - let's support the ones that make a good offering. This is basically a take-out dairy diner - that's about all the ambiance you can and should expect of it. For nice ambiance, Shallots is a good option - just check your bank balance before you go :p

Leah M.

Yelp
Love the pizza and falafel! They have a wonderful salad bar that is reasonable priced, and the pizza sauce is quality, however the manager is a jerk. He cuts you off when you talk and he always seems to be in to much of a rush to give good customer service.
google avatar

Adele S.

Yelp
I agree, decor totally lacking in ambiance. The food is ok, I've never gotten a bad salad there but there is better. Not a destination restaurant for me, just I'm in the area and I need something fast.
google avatar

Jeff C.

Yelp
Chalavi and Main Pizza are now one in the same. The salad bar is great and very reasonable. Although I am limited to eating at kosher-only restaurants, my non-kosher-only friends often choose to grab a salad there because it is good quality. The Pizza is good and consistent. I have also had many of the sandwiches and they are great. I find the restaurant to be very clean every time I eat there.

Alexandra L.

Yelp
Picture this: you're in Chicago, looking for a kosher restaurant, bemoaning that only three exist, and then you find out about...A NEW KOSHER RESTAURANT! You're, like, whoa! So you call up your friend and invite her, and she's, like, whoa! And the two of you drive up to West Rogers Park. You park your car. Then, you walk towards the restaurant. Where is it? Oh, there's the sign. Interesting looking - basically a squadron of light bulbs surrounding the word CHALAVI. You enter the restaurant. IT IS BRIGHT INSIDE. VERY BRIGHT. THE KIND OF BRIGHT THAT MAKES IT LOOK LIKE EVERY FEATURE OF THE ROOM IS SPEAKING TO YOU IN CAPS LOCK. Annoying, right? To your right is an empty buffet table. To your left is a brick wall of booster seats. Ahead of you is a large room that looks basically tidy. Deep breath. You walk across the room to a counter, where you pick up a menu. The menu will not surprise you because you have surely looked it up online, and also encountered it at every other milchig restaurant. You ask the Israeli guy behind the counter whether he recommends salad A or B. He mutters, shrugs, smiles. You pick salad B, in part because of the promise of fresh tuna. Your friend gets the nachos and french onion soup. You sit down. Here's what you get: a salad. Sort of. It's populated by green bits, in any case, that are covered with a varnish that one might excuse as salad dressing. And a little white lump in the corner. Feta cheese. And then there's the appendage. It's mayonnaise, you realize, but the kind of mayonnaise that's just brown enough to be passed off as tuna. What's most remarkable about it is its shape - round and glistening like a fresh bowling ball, yet soft, like skin. Your friend's soup is swampish, sort of wet and boggy, and the nachos...you get the idea. So no, this is not a substitute for Da Nali's, not a substitute for whatever you can make yourself. Go home. Stay home. Save yourself!

Yelp
Chalavi has good pizza, but a pie is over expensive. Also deliveries other to West Rodgers Park is extra five dollars. No one else does this so I got to minus a star.

Yelp
Great food and great service. The pizza here is the best kosher pizza in town, hands town. They also have a fantastic salad bar and the prices are fair. Don't forget to try the paninis, they're amazing!

Yelp
Very good Pizza . Ok service, but they have drive thru which is amazing in winter and kids are in the car

Yelp
I just moved to Chicago from Phoenix, and was very happy with the pizza and fettuccine Alfredo , the pasta was delicious, I'm also a baal tshuva and that was the best I've ever had, and i've tried it all! the menu is inexpensive ( for kosher), and the service was excellent.

Yelp
Once in a while I go to Chalavi Main pizza, usually I take out some pizzas and salads for the family dinner , pizza is very good quality and kids love it , salads are fresh with a good quality too. Place itself not so clean and there lot of chaos and tumul so I don't know how people can sit there and enjoy the food. I had some bad experience when I placed a order around $70 to take home , in salad bar station the employee was helpful and made for me 3 salads containers , I asked to put a side in very small cups 3 different toppings ( croutons, dry onion) , I have 40 minutes drive home so I didn't want them to be wet and mushy and the same employee gave me such a look that I understood that there the problem so asked if there any problem and he sad "YES" : since the salad container is full and I I want toppings I have to order larger salad size box and pay for that and not to ask for toppings. I left those 3 small cups with toppings there and left place very very disappointed , I don't think I'll go there soon , customer service in my case was bad , looks like their policy is to save each crouton!!

Hebert F.

Yelp
The food at Chalavi/Main Pizza is just fine. However, the ambiance is tasteless. No sense for decent decor or taste in running a restaurant. The owner just does not get it and expects patrons to accept shlock surroundings. The decor is tacky mirrors all around. Supposedly they are moving a block away and building a new restaurant. I hope they hire a decorator and make the surroundings nice and pleasant.

Helen C.

Yelp
It has the best pancakes and pizza I've ever had but my eggs were served cold. This restaurant has two rooms and they open the second room when it gets busy. There is a salad bar. My sister and dad really liked the salad. The pizza came out to the table really fast. You should really try this place. It has really good food. I would recommend this place.

Dudet R.

Yelp
The only good thing they got going is their location. Their food is not the greatest however they do have an amazing salad bar. Service isn't the best either
