The 12 Best Lobster Dishes at Houston Restaurants | Eater Houston

"When the craving for an authentic Maine lobster roll hits, a visit to Maine-ly Sandwiches should be in order. The sandwich is made with fresh, steamed lobster and served with mayo on a butter toasted roll. Sound good? Be prepared to pay for that top-quality meat — a half roll is $19 while the full size is a whopping $28." - Megha McSwain

Google
Stopped by for lunch on the way back to work. Was super excited but after having real lobster rolls/bisque in Maine, it was a little disappointing. The bread was delicious, lobster was fresh, but lacked seasoning. The lobster bisque was thick like a chowder (too thick) with a little lump of lobster in the middle.

Google
Oh my god this place is amazingly good ! The lobster roll is on point ! Had to get a second roll ! And celina was great, great service ! Worth the drive from dallas. I will definantly come again !

Google
The main lobster roll were on point. By looking at the reviews people don’t know how expensive lobster is. And also there are two types of rolls. Maybe the other wasn’t selling so they decided to change it up. My girlfriend had the shrimp roll, very good. Fries and onion rings were good too. Not a big fan of the lobster bisque soup but I’m not going to cry about it because everything else was great. Definitely recommended and going back.

Google
Houston Classic – A Must! My favorite lunch spot! They’ve got daily specials that never disappoint, and the food hits the spot every time. A true Houston classic you just can’t pass up.

Google
We had warm and cold lobster rolls, they are both good but I personally love the warm one. Lobster bisque and clam chowder are really good.

Google
Maybe it’s because I went at night and got it to-go, but the food was not that good?? I asked what was most popular, and they mentioned the lobster roll and the lobster bisque. The lobster roll was okay, definitely overpriced. There really wasn’t much meat in the sandwich. The lobster bisque was like congealed?? Just a weird consistency, maybe like velveeta or something?? The place is cute, but with the food not being great, I don’t think I’d go back. Oh, I also had a couple pieces of shell that I found while chewing :(

Google
Great Maine Seafood. I had a lobster roll and lobster bisque. Having lived in Maine and growing up in the Northeast Maine-ly Sandwhiches is the real deal. Reminds me of a lobster and clam shack on the southern coast of Maine.

So my coworker and I found this place on Google and decided to check it out. We both ordered a lobster sandwich she got double meat I just got a regular sandwich. I should say that the customer service wasn’t good as that was our first time in this establishment and we weren’t informed about anything on the menu. The wait was about half an hour to receive a 29 dollar lobster sandwich in a buttered hot dog bun and that was with a tip. It wasn’t seasoned and my coworker's sandwich wasn’t given double meat like she asked until she said something. I would never patronize this establishment ever again and I will tell anyone thinking about going to this place not to go somewhere else. We didn’t even get a thank you please come again.

Yelp
I didn't have high hopes for this place because a lot of people seem to complain about their portion sizes in proportion to their prices. Now that I've been, I have to agree with them, not to even mention a few other issues I experienced. The LOBSTER BISQUE was decent, not great. It was a little salty, which builds with each bite. If you're sensitive to salt, you might not like it or be able to finish it. There were a few chunks of lobster, which felt fresh like in the rolls, but I don't think it was worth $12 for a cup. My party got 3 REGULAR LOBSTER ROLLS for $17.50 each. They each came with a piece of taffy, which was a surprise. I think the lobster rolls were overpriced, but they were decent. I was scared there wouldn't be enough meat, because some reviews even complained about the extra meat option not having enough meat, but it was an okay amount and there were some nice, large lobster chunks. The lobster portions seemed a little inconsistent (I think I had a little less than the other two rolls), but it was still better than I expected. I would've liked more meat, of course, but I thought the price was already expensive for what it was, and an extra $6 for a little more meat didn't seem worth it. I think a big problem is that the bread was too thick for the regular amount of lobster. I felt like most of my bites consisted of more bread than lobster, which contributes to feeling like there wasn't enough lobster. They should use a thinner bread for regular portions of lobster meat and the thick bread for the extra meat option. Also, I would've liked for it to be more saucy and more seasoned. The lobster felt fresh, but was a little lacking in flavor. The bread was nice and buttered though! And the sides were toasted, so it had a tiny bit of crunch to it, which everyone really enjoyed. I'm used to homemade lobster rolls that are loaded up and full of flavor, so my bar was set pretty high. I knew I'd be somewhat disappointed unless I got a perfect lobster roll, and I was right. I guess this is a fine option if you don't want to put in the effort to make lobster rolls, but I think making them yourself would be much cheaper and satisfying than getting one here, unfortunately.

Yelp
I enjoyed this roll so much. It was made fresh alongside the fries. The roll was well buttered and crispy but light and the lobster was great. They asked if I wanted it in mayo so it had this sweetness that mixed with the savoriness of the roll. They have other seafood on the menu like shrimp and clam chowder but definitely get the roll and fries.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place for a long time, ever since I had my first lobster roll. So I finally had the chance after leaving Dave & Buster's. I got the regular size lobster roll with the Southern Crunch seasonings/toppings. The roll was definitely small so I would try the large next time. I liked the southern crunch seasoning, I thought it was a nice touch. Maybe next time I'll get the Texas Heat. They offer a variety of other foods and sandwiches too. I had to take mines togo. But it was a nice snack and hopefully I will go again soon.

Yelp
The owner greeted me with a smile and free samples, the decor was wonderful like a seafood house .

Yelp
I ate at the now-closed location that was on Shepard. I am born and raised from New England, and you can bet this is the worst representation of a lobster roll in the entire United States. I also ordered the fried clams, and it was like chewing rubber. Additionally, the portion on the lobster roll is pathetic and I seriously doubt there is any lobster from Maine in them at all. There is a sweetness to New England lobster that cannot be faked. This place is a total joke.

Yelp
Excellent lobster rolls and lobster mac & cheese. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for.

Yelp
Sooo fast service and fresh but for some reason the lobster amount didn't do it for me. And it was a lot of mayo but it was tasty nonetheless. Also got a side salad with crab which was a good variety of items. Got my child the hotdog and it was a Nathan's so of course it was good. Overall good.

Leticia K.

Yelp
Food was mediocre, although the fish and chips were made to order yet very greasy they upset my stomach. Price menu is a la carte and adds up quickly. Small lobster roll is 17$ and about 4 in . Fountain machine was all out the soda selection. Service up front at register was not very friendly. I would not return.
google avatar

Amanda H.

Yelp
Yum! I ordered the clam strip basket and it did not disappoint! Delicately fried and absolutely delicious. I was pretty bummed there wasn't any crab bisque, but I'm not sure where I would have put it. The small strip basket was more than enough food!
google avatar

Leo P.

Yelp
Lobster no flavor at all, not worth the driving time I felt depressed paying $21 dlls for that food without flavor
google avatar

Sharay D.

Yelp
It was empty, so I was able to get my food fairly quickly. The only negative thing was that it could have been more lobster. But the taste was very good, and the roll was soft and buttery! Not extra filling so you can enjoy the lobster. It comes in 2 sizes..regular and large. I choose regular. I still recommend stopping through.
google avatar

Howard L.

Yelp
A large roll is composed of 2 small rolls put together, so just get a small roll since there's no mathematical discount for buying a large one. (At least as of the time of this writing) I do like how the buns were lightly toasted with a mild butter flavor. The actual lobster though, I found somewhat underwhelming. The lobster filling lacked depth in flavor, and somehow the main taste was dominated by the bun itself. This could be because the roll wasn't filled with enough meat (it was a bit under-filled), or because the filling needed some kind of seasoning. I think some possible additions for the filling could have included melted butter, chives, shallots, or even just some extra salt. Also, normally lemon wedges come with lobster rolls and I did not see lemons anywhere in the restaurant. One final note that's more of a FYI: The lobster filling was cold and the bun was warm. Some people prefer cold lobster and some prefer warm, so I'm not taking it into account in the Star Rating. Oh, and there's a credit card charge if you don't pay in cash. The menu prices written in chalk are the Cash payment prices

Yelp
If you want to get a feel for lobster rolls you can start here. However having had lobster rolls in Maine-we realized there were some key accoutrements missing that would have made it feel more authentic-namely potato chips (included) and a pickle. Not to mention the cost was considerably more than we would pay in Maine. But like I said it was a start. Staff was really nice but we ultimately had to find somewhere else to satisfy our hunger because it would have been too expensive to purchase more food.

Yelp
This place has good, reasonably priced lobster rolls and I would come again just for that. The ambience & service are strange but I don't care very much for that anyway if the food is good. The regular lobster roll that is 5.5 inches is $16.50, and the large at 11 inches is $32. There is no incentive to buying the larger one so I'd start with a regular roll and if you're hungry, work your way up. Lobster is fresh and there is a reasonable amount in the roll. It won't be overflowing, but an average roll in Vegas or any other major city would run you $30 for the same size. Comes with warm butter and the bread is excellent. The ambience inside looks dated & dinky but I would come back again. There is a list of daily specials taped at the cash register. Be sure to mention it so they honor the price.

Yelp
Went Sunday for lunch.....place was totally empty at around 1, made me nervous. But we were just the first of many. Was a line waiting to order at the counter when we walked out. Ordered the regular lobster roll and fries. Food came out quick and was really good. Place is a bit pricey for the size of the roll but that's to be expected. If you haven't had a lobster roll....go. FYI, sandwich doesn't come with the fires they are extra. Worker at the counter was very pleasant the place was spotlessly clean

Yelp
This is the best sandwich roll we've had lately. Buttered, lightly toasted outside, fluffy on the inside. We would be fine with just eating the roll by itself. The lobster roll is decent. The salami sandwich was missing the veggies I requested but I didn't care to complain. They gave a lot of salami. I will be back just to see what I can eat with the toasted roll.

Yelp
Craving some lobster and clam strips and we had such a fun Friday here! The fish and chips were great and only $10 on Friday's! We really needed a lobster roll and we asked for no mayo - wow, so fresh and delicious!! Our favorite in town. Clam strips were amaaazing! Clam chowder nice and thick and chewy clams. Overall, we were most pleased with our late lunch and will be back for sure to try their other specials!! Highly recommended for any seafood lover!!!

Yelp
I have never eaten here but I read on a Neighborhood Board that this business owner takes the tips of its employees. How pathetic is that? and I also hear they buy this prepackaged Lobster and sell sandwiches for 18.00 enough said.. I would never support a business that takes employees tips and pockets them for himself. Anyone living in this area, please do not support this kind of nonsense.

Yelp
You must get the lobster roll. So fresh and sweet. Lobster bisque is really good as well. Super friendly servers and staff. Great food great people.

Yelp
Why 5 stars? Because I've never met a lobster roll I didn't like. --- --- --- It would have been hard to imagine coming here and not writing a 5-star review. The only way to really mess up a lobster roll is to be obnoxiously skimpy with the lobster meat. I liked how you could choose between a half or large here, and you already know which one I went with. My wife felt that the lobster meat on her half was a bit underwhelming, but mine seemed pretty spot on. What I liked is that the bread was a bit taller and all encompassing of the lobster meat. Don't get me wrong, psychologically, it's cool to see your roll so full of lobster, that it falls out with every bite. But I'm practical and would prefer not to risk losing precious and expensive lobster meat to the floor throughout my lunch. And portion ratios aside, the taste was ideal. Again, it's hard to mess up lobster, butter and buttery toast. I normally wouldn't gravitate toward clam strips, but they were a highlight on Yelp and I was intrigued. They turned out to be an ideal side dish for a lobster roll. They were kind of like a thicker calamari and had a very seafood forward flavor. Lastly, I finished with a snickerdoodle whoopie pie. It was kind of coming apart as I ate it, but it was quite tasty. And very heavy, as whoopie pies are. I bookmarked this place several years ago and have always wanted to visit. We were at a kids birthday party nearby, and when I saw how close this was, it was an easy decision on where we would be eating lunch. The only small ding was that the guy working here kind of carried himself like there was nowhere on Earth he wanted to be any less than here. He wasn't rude, per say, but he was certainly not friendly.

Yelp
Disappointed Wasn't anything line I had hoped for. Roll was very lean on lobster and very small. If this was the same breakout franchise I saw on Shark Tank, it has far to go to be legitimately great.
google avatar

Wayne Z.

Yelp
Sorry excuse for a lobster roll, and awful service. The rolls are way overpriced for the amount and quality. Service was awful, even though they knew exactly where we were seated they did not bring the food to the table even though we asked twice; once when we ordered and then again when they forgot to cook the fries we ordered with the rolls. Will not return, look elsewhere for a lobster roll, and head to the new york pizza place next door.
google avatar

Sarah J.

Yelp
Delicious! Ordered 2 regular lobster rolls ($16 each) and one medium fries ($4). Didn't expect the meat to be like a cold sandwich type of deal. Still good, but would rather warmed lobster. The bread was phenomenal. Toasted and buttered to perfection. So delicious. Fries were tasty as well.
google avatar

Liam S.

Yelp
This is the best place at the Marque, one of the best in the area. My whole family and I are from Maine, and we all agree the crawfish rolls are some of the best. It's a must go to, the food atmosphere and service are all five stars; for a Maine seafood inspired restaurant it's on point.
google avatar

Ruben R.

Yelp
Food is good, Service was 8/10 Ambience is very casual, good location for the place .
google avatar

Melissa H.

Yelp
Came to grab a lobster roll afterwork. Didn't disappoint. The warm lobster roll with butter was on a toasted roll. Delicious. Just like I remember from the northeast coast. My husband had the Southern Crunch lobster roll. He gives it a 5 as well. We ordered from the register and the food came out quick. I would definitely recommend this place to others. The price per room is also reasonable considering many places in the area can be overpriced. Parking was a breeze but we came during the week.
google avatar

Fox E.

Yelp
This is mainely a good place. Of course I love this sandwich place. It tastes absolutely delicious and it's a genuine sample of what some of these sandwiches are like in the Northeast. It's not as good as the best of them, and it's not cheap, but it's not bad. The problem is that these sandwiches are just absolutely miniscule. Smaller than most of the offerings I had in the Northeast, I'd say half the size of some of the better ones, and yet priced the same as them, or thereabouts. So for that reason I can't give more than four stars, but I absolutely would come back here, especially if I was in the mood to Splash out on a snack and remember the old times when I used to more frequently visit Boston or Baltimore.

Lachelle R.

Yelp
First impression - Sad that the prices on the board aren't correct, and after ordering a lobster site salad, there's apparently a $2.60 markup bc it's a SIDE salad(?). Food has arrived! - Delivered to the table, including utensils, so totally worth tipping. One regular lobster roll (they have 2 sizes so this would be the smaller one), cup of clam chowder, cup of lobster bisque, lobster side(?) salad (see above), a soda, and a cup of water (plus tip) $70. Food review - The roll was light on the lobster IMO but the person that ordered it loved it. Lobster salad was yum.... but lemme tell ya... the SOUPS... DEF they were the star of the show. Bisque was creamy, light sweetness, with a couple (2-3) nice sized chunks of lobster. Perfect ratio for a cup. Chowder was really good, not too potatoy and I was happy with the amount of tiny clams. When in doubt, start with the soup! Great staff, cute atmosphere
google avatar

Maria E.

Yelp
I initially had my doubts about Maine-ly since it's located in a big, commercial entertainment center. However, I believe they are family-owned and operated. Plus, they serve a tasty lobster roll. I had a lobster roll with mayo while my boyfriend ordered his with butter. Both were delicious. Not the best lobster roll I've ever had or anything but the texture of the lobster was excellent. Also, the bread was really good (super important). Naturally, it's expensive and far from overflowing with lobster meat. Definitely not something I'd eat on the regular. We had a weird issue with the soda fountain. The water was coming out blue. The employees offered to sell us bottled water at some inflated price. No, thanks. Finally, one of the employees brought a cup of water from the back. Solid option for a lobster roll in the Houston area.
google avatar

Timmy L.

Yelp
The lobster roll wasn't as good as other places I tried before. The flavoring was pretty bland and the bun was not toasted enough.
google avatar

Candy C.

Yelp
Did y'all know they moved to Spring Branch? I tried the lobster roll (it's good, wish there was a little more lobster, the bun is so yum... toasty, soft and buttery) and clam basket (it's a shareable, lightly breaded clams and crunchy fries). Service was friendly. Bummer my taffy was busted open Wanna break from a burger or chicken sandwich? Come on and check it out.
google avatar

Tyler D.

Yelp
Cute and small establishment in a fun date-night walk around area. My number #1 spot for refreshing seafood on the fly
google avatar

Ali K.

Yelp
TLDR: Food is good, but not for the price. We went on a Saturday night, and it was pretty empty. Restaurant was cool and had a good ambiance. It's a counter order restaurant and the service was good. Not blow you away good but enough to get the job done. We had the lobster roll, crab roll, and the clam chowder. The lobster roll was okay. The lobster seemed a bit dry and sandwich was lacking in butter. There was a lot of empty space in the bread. For the amount you pay, they could throw on a $0.10 piece of lettuce which would help fill out the bread. The crab roll had an old taste to it but wasn't dry. They put a lot more lobster on there, but it's all you can taste. Some greens or a crunch would help break up the taste and consistency. The clam chowder was pretty good. It was creamy and gave you a nice taste with every bite. If I lived closer, I would come get this to take home on a rainy day. Overall, I wouldn't come here again. I spent almost $70 and wasn't satisfied with the food. I understand it's in Houston and far from the fresh lobster, but that wasn't the biggest issue. I would've liked more variety in the sandwiches for the $20 price tag per sandwich.

E H.

Yelp
I ordered this as delivery, so take that into account. I thought the lobster roll was delicious and filled appropriately with lobster (I ordered the small option). The fries were good and something I enjoyed but definitely not something I'd crave separately. I had a $5 off coupon, so I'd say for that price it was a good meal.
google avatar

Rafael W.

Yelp
The lobster rolls are great and I don't think you will find better in the area. The staff is great, since it's created when ordered expect a little bit of a longer wait on the food. I'll be back.
google avatar

Gitanjali K.

Yelp
Terrible service. I used to come here pretty regularly. The staff was happy and kind and helpful. Not anymore. Sunday, today, 6:30 pm. Had the slowest lady take our order. She had a Spanish accent. She was rude to me and every customer in line. I wanted a sno cone. She simply refused because the line was long. Is not serving something on the menu due to sheer laziness a thing? Posting this so a manager see how revenue is being deterred from laziness and rudeness. My husband later went up after no one was there to ask for a sno cone. She hemmed and hawed. She was looking for another customer to walk on so she could say she was really busy. She wasn't busy. People in the back made the food not her. She pressed buttons on and iPad. I can do that without her presence and her rudeness. If I had a rude, old, lazy mean lady as my front face to my business like her and saw that she repeatedly turned down revenue for my business, I wouldn't even finish reading this. I'd go under cover commando and if find proof of what we all witnessed and let her go. Then I'd install a self servicing iPad or a chatgpt server that upsold me without at attitude. I have options. We all do on where we eat. She just eliminated that option for me in the future. If you see a baddleax at the front manning an iPad, walk out.

Travis F.

Yelp
Keith went above and beyond to make sure I order was correct and even gave my mom a cup full of toffee to take home because she loves them... great place to take your family and enjoy some home-Maine styled Sammy's and more
google avatar

Jim D.

Yelp
The meat in regular lobster roll gets a little lost in the bun. The bun is more suited for the 'extra meat' version, which is what you may have wanted anyway. As another reviewer correctly stated, it is hard to mess up lobster. So, it is hard to be too disappointed. It took a surprisingly long time to make my lobster roll and scoop my cole slaw. I didn't really have anything else to do. But, it did make me wonder, 'What could they be doing?'.
google avatar

Cassandra M.

Yelp
Yum!!! I absolutely adored this place from the decor, "throwback" ambiance, the on point seasoning in seafood, and the food of course. Got the fried shrimp roll, lobster roll, clam chowder, lobster Mac n cheese. Wish we got the extra meat on the lobster roll!! So we got the normal lobster roll. The butter, bread quality, simple sprinkling of pepper, and grade of lobster was just incredible. Did it immediately transport me to Maine? Maybe not haha, but I would definitely order again and bring my friends. Bf said he wish there was more lemon! Shrimp roll was soooo good, seasoning was amazing. Clam chowder was simple and good. Decent clam taste and really creamy but not over. Lobster Mac n cheese was so good as well, you kinda get what you pay for (under $11) but it's decent! The vibes and food brought me to a happy place. Check it out!
google avatar

Chelsea B.

Yelp
We waited over 30 minutes to get our food the rude hispanic lady (I am also Hispanic) brought our food and it was ice cold she said nope I just made it and I said we have waited forever and spent 40 dollars for cold shrimp. You could hear the staff the staff laughing at us because we asked for it to be heated up. This use to be One of my favorites my dad also asked for a fry which she didn't add then fought with us. HORRIFIC

Brian O.

Yelp
A good go-to for New England (Boston or Maine? I feel Bean Town steals a lot) fare with some north NY mixed in. Try the bisque and see what you think. I should add that the portions after solid, and the fried are the proper crinkly sort with potato inside.

Cj L.

Yelp
Charges $45 for a sandwich but doesn't have change for $100. Don't go here lobster is not fresh
google avatar

Emily K.

Yelp
Maine-ly Sandwiches was a great spot to try my first lobster roll. This place has solid food, but the prices were higher than we expected. My boyfriend & I shared a small lobster roll with extra meat ($19), and our first thought was how small it looked for the price. I know lobster is expensive, but I felt like the price was still very high for the quantity. In terms of taste, the lobster was really good! I really liked the toasted, buttery bread it was served on as well. We also ordered a large clam chowder which came with oyster crackers. For $8, I felt like this soup was a much better deal. We both really enjoyed the taste. In the future I will most likely stick to the clam chowder on a typical day due to the lower price & better value.
google avatar

Giavanna Z.

Yelp
The service was really fast! No one was there, very calming. The food was amazing! Great taste in music!

Lauren M.

Yelp
This place is normally very good but tonight they gave me this skimpy thing for their "extra meat" roll. Disappointing
google avatar

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Great service & great food!!! Buttery bread and lobster roll, fried clam strip basket, crab & lobster bisque. Everything was so fresh and delicious!! Floors and tables were clean Will definitely be making another trip here...
google avatar

D'Ann B.

Yelp
They need to take snow cones off the menu. I love their lobster rolls but I also look forward to a snow cone. I've yet to have one after over a dozen times. Every time they don't have the ice. Just not going anymore. If you can't deliver something consistently it shouldn't be offered.

Yelp
When lobster roll craze hit the greater Houston area, I was fortunate to discover Cape Cod Cafe in Katy. The fried clam strips were AWESOME. Unfortunately Cape Cod Cafe closed. Imagine my delight when I discovered Maine-ly Sandwiches as pop-up participant with on-site service Fooda! The lobster bisque is fantastic, it has nice big chunky pieces of lobster garnished the top. The lobster rolls are buttery and warm. But the ultimate test for me was how the fried clam strips tasted. I do find this restaurant claims to be very thin. But they are fried very crisp and light. Of I always want less fresh fries and more clams!
