Great food. Great service. We had a party of 11 including children and our server, Joshua, was a joy. Very attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and kind. No one in our party is a vegetarian, but their veg strudel ended up being one of our favorite dishes we tried! Everything we ordered was fresh and delicious. The space is small but not tiny or cramped, the noise level was perfect for chatting, and the atmosphere was cozy and festive for Christmas. Even though it was a Friday evening, we easily found street parking almost directly in front of the building.

Food and service were incredible. Our server Joshua was very attentive and personable. We had the steak frites and the pasta dish on special and both were excellent. They have some of the best fries we’ve ever had. Highly recommend stopping here if you’re in Brunswick.

Absolutely fabulous night out at Maine Street Bistro! We had Joshua as our server, he was the perfect blend of friendly and attentive. The way they set up the restaurant and decorated the high walls made the space feel inviting. The food was incredible, and they didn't rush different courses out so you could take your time finishing starters!

A Night to Remember – Exceptional Service & Unforgettable Flavors Had an unforgettable date night at this gem of a restaurant. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm hospitality, and our waiter Josh truly made the evening special. His service was impeccable—attentive, knowledgeable, and personable. Now, onto the food… everything was absolutely divine. We started with the Escargot, which was perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. The Octopus Terrine was a unique and delightful twist, smooth with just the right amount of seasoning. The Beef Tartare was fresh and bold, a standout dish for anyone who loves this classic. We also indulged in a half tower of the raw bar—each piece was fresh and delicately prepared, showcasing the quality of their seafood. Finally, the Grilled Swordfish was cooked to perfection, flaky and rich, with a lovely char that complemented its tenderness. Every dish was thoughtfully crafted, and the portions were just the right size for sharing among us. The ambiance of the restaurant was warm and inviting, making for a relaxed but elevated dining experience. If you’re looking for a place that combines incredible service, an outstanding atmosphere, and exquisite food, look no further. This place truly exceeded our expectations, and I can't wait to return!

I've been waiting to try this place for so long. It was worth the wait! Amazing food! In my opinion, a perfectly sized menu. Creative specials balanced by modern staples and possibly the last quality $9 glass of wine in southern Maine. Our server, Joshua was the best!! So sweet, especially to my mom.

Google
We’d never been here before and stopped in on a freezing cold night. The atmosphere was cozy and warm, and the wait staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. Our server went above and beyond with thoughtful recommendations and even brought me delicious decaf coffee to warm up while we waited for our meals. It’s incredible how much a kind, attentive server can elevate the whole experience. The chef is extremely talented. We both had the special, which was a crispy pork belly with gnocchi, and it was absolutely to die for. The caramel apple cheesecake was one of the best desserts I’ve ever had. If you’re looking for a warm, upscale restaurant that’s not remotely pretentious, this place is a gem. I’m so glad to have them here in Brunswick. We’ll definitely be back, and I can’t wait to try more of the menu!

Google
A deliciously refreshing meal that was skillfully prepared by very talented chefs, and served with care. The menu included minestrone soup with a broth perfectly seasoned, calamari with greens and thinly sliced fennel, hangar steak perfectly medium rare, fricassee of chicken with the most flavorful sauce, Persian gnocchi (OMGosh! Delightful!). I highly recommend this restaurant. Truly each plate is carefully prepared, artfully presented, and thoughtfully served. I forgot to take a picture of dessert: a slice of the lightest mango cheesecake, and lime scented marscapone ice cream with lightly toasted hazelnuts. Thank you Chef Brendan, Chef John, Eric and Joshua. A memorable experience for me.

Google
I went to Main Street Bistro with my love for my birthday dinner tonight, and it was spectacular. We started with the escargot which was perfectly cooked and served in a rich parsley-butter sauce with lightly toasted baguette slices. I had the Chicken Fricassée, a classic French preparation, with mushrooms, carrots, and pearl onions in the most amazing sauce. The chicken was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the flavors were incredible. My boyfriend ordered the grilled Sea Bass special, which was flawlessly prepared and paired with charred lemon and the most perfectly fried potatoes. I wish I could remember our servers name because he struck the perfect balance of attentive without being overbearing, as well being very knowledgeable of the menu and preparations. The atmosphere was comfortably classy, and even as the restaurant filled up, it remained peaceful enough for us to enjoy our conversation and meal. For a special night out, we usually spend around $100, and this dinner—with one adult beverage each, an appetizer, and two entrées—came to just $130 (including a 25% tip). In just one visit, Main Street Bistro has earned a spot in our top three favorite date night spots.

Yelp
10/10 for food! We shared the foie gras terrine appetizer special, the baked brie, and the falafel, followed by the steak frites and risotto with vegetables. Not a single critique, amazing French food that would be at home in a fine dining establishment anywhere in the country. Cozy interior, slightly loud when full but in a friendly way. Minimal complaint that bathroom is not in the greatest shape. Excellent restaurant and looking forward to our next return visit!

Yelp
Maine Street bistro is a good addition to the wide range of restaurants on Maine Street in New Brunswick. We already have some excellent local Asian restaurants but we don't have too many places, serving upscale bistro and pub food in an attractive setting. As this was our first time here, our server, Joshua, Was especially helpful and attentive in beverage and menu selections. And he did a really nice job of trying that all of the dishes came out at the right time in the right order, which isn't done often enough. Joshua highly recommended the falafel and I join him in that recommendation. The switch to lentils is the base made an exceptionally light but tasty version of a wonderful favorite. The mug, fish and cabbage dish was delicious, though maybe a bit larger certain of lentils, maybe with a bit more spice, would've made this dish even better . The risotto with crab was delicious, but the crab was lost in the dish, so it probably would be better as a crabcake or as a amount of crab meat on top of the risotto. And normally addition to risotto are made at the very end anyway, so this makes sense to get the most out of the crab. We had several glasses of wine, with generous pours; the Sancerre was exceptionally good and paired well with everyone's dishes. There are some excellent local beers on top as well for those who want beer rather than wine. One of our group had some of the oysters and said that they were extremely fresh and delicious - they were local from Brunswick (Mere Point). The desserts and after dinner drinks looked good, but we were full enough that we'll wait until another visit to do that.

Yelp
We visited twice over the Thanksgiving week and was totally blown away with the food and service. It's nice to have an upscale restaurant on Maine St.

Yelp
Beautifully plated meals leave you wanting more. Super cute space w/ high ceilings inside of a brick historic bldg. makes you feel like you're dining in a rom-com. Fantastic addition to the elevated culinary scene in Brunswick. We always look forward to the chef's inventive creations on the seasonal menus. Have never had a bad meal here. The blend of simple, fresh ingredients are always flavorful, yet not fussy. I don't know how our fave server Nick is always so warm, friendly, & positive, as hospitality is a tough business. His knowledgeable of good food, enthusiasm for people to have a great experience keeps us coming back. Lunch menu Tues. to Sat.

Yelp
Visiting from FL and read the menu aloud to my friend... "all my favorite foods!" So we had dinner! I had a vegetarian option; Gnocchi which I would definitely have again! The Manhattan was also excellent, one was enough. My friend had all her favs: oysters, Foie Gras, and escargot not a crumb was left on our plates She may be driving down from Millinocket on a regular basis Thank you for an unexpectedly superior meal Chef!

Amy M.

Yelp
This place was amazing! You can tell the chef/owner puts his heart and soul into every dish. A truly exceptional dining experience for our one night in town. The waitstaff were super friendly and accommodating and the restaurant itself has a cozy inviting atmosphere. This place is a true gem!

Yelp
Simply divine! A total gem in downtown Brunswick. Perfectly fresh and sucked oysters, a life changing shaved Brussels and kale Caesar salad, tender escargot, and a tasty steak frites. Absolutely recommended!

Yelp
My friend and I had an AMAZING dinner here last night!! Every bite was so beautifully curated ,beautiful, and SO delicious!! Our lovely server was Joshua and everything was right on point !! We can't wait to go back!!

Yelp
Two years ago, we first stepped into this restaurant when it was known as Maine St. Steak & Oyster under different ownership. We loved it so much back then that when we found out it was sold and turned into Maine St. Bistro we had to come back and check it out -- and I'm so glad we did. Maine St. Bistro gave us an unforgettable dinner experience from the moment we stepped inside. The restaurant is quaint, cozy, and fancy, but not pretentious. It's quite welcoming. The service was top-notch; our waiter was not only friendly but also attentive. While the menu wasn't extensive, it offered a nice variety - during our visit, it ranged from seafood and pork to chicken and risotto. We started with the baked brie and beef tartare and both were delicious. The brie came with these yummy raisins that were to die for. For two people, it was the perfect appetizer. However, I do wish they hadn't used the same crostinis for both apps. For our entrees we had the MSB Burger and the fall risotto. The burger was juicy and my partner couldn't get enough of it. I enjoyed my fall risotto. The presentation was beautiful. My only wish was that the portion had been a bit more generous, especially considering the $26 price tag. To accompany our dinner, we selected a bottle of Argentinian Malbec, and I was happy to see that not all the wine options were astronomically expensive. All in all, an amazing dining experience in Brunswick and we cannot wait to return!

Yelp
Food, server Nick and quality wine made dinner a big hit for our brief stay in Brunswick. We favor a French flair and Maine Street helps define "bistro". The foie gras terrine, sea bass and steak frites were delish. Do not miss out on dining here but, please, save us a spot. We will be back for more FG terrine. Enjoy!

George M.

Yelp
Got raw little neck clams and the Lazy Mussels. Amazing food and plating. Chef/owner is a great guy and super polite and friendly. Will be back!

Ellie W.

Yelp
Food was excellent, amazing French fries, and Joshua is very friendly and nice! Such a cute part of Maine.

Yelp
We didn't have a reservation but they worked hard to seat us. The food was excellent! Wait staff totally awesome!

Yelp
Went on a rare date night with my husband before Valentines Day. We loved the previous establishment in this location and were craving a steak night. Service was great. The server was very friendly and funny. My steak frites was beautifully cooked with great flavor. There was a little more fat than I like (I know "fat = flavor" but it was over the top) and about half of my steak was a little chewy. Fries were fantastic. I usually like them on the plate with the steak so they can soak up all those yummy juices, but no big complaint there. I just dumped them out of their silly little pail. Dessert was so good. Very tiny portions. My husband wasn't a fan of his, so that meant more for me! Overall, we enjoyed our dinner and the atmosphere, though not quite as much as we loved Maine Street Steak & Oyster.

Yelp
Great food and service: one of the best meals in my life. My wife described the French Onion Soup as a more than food - it had the same feeling as visiting a new and beautiful place. My steak (medium rare) was absolutely outstanding. The ambiance is interesting, we dressed up because it was a date night, and did not feel uncomfortable - at the same time, I think I could have worn a hoodie and sneakers and felt just as comfortable. The bill was a little high for this to be a regular stop, but next big occasion I know where we'll go!

Yelp
An unassuming culinary gem in downtown Brunswick- just a quick walk to/from Bowdoin College and Maine State Music Theater. We stopped in for a plate of fresh local oysters, fried and beautifully-seasoned calamari, and a drink at the bar. Great atmosphere, stylish decor, busy tables of diners, and very friendly and professional service. We've eaten here 3-5 times and have always left remarking on how this place is (in our opinion) Brunswick's best. Clearly inspired by French bistro menus, the vision and execution at Maine Street Bistro is worth experiencing for yourself!

Yelp
Service was spot on. Burger, delicious. Wine selection, formidable. Cheese board was impressive and beer offerings, respectable. 10/10 would eat there again

Yelp
Nice restaurant with great service. Enjoyed our salad but the smash burgers were just okay. They needed salt and were covered in too much port-salut cheese sauce.

Jordan T.

Yelp
Incredible meal, such high quality seafood. We had the oysters (super fresh and perfectly cleaned) and trout dip. The server who we believe was also the owner was extremely knowledgeable and gave awesome wine recommendations that paired perfectly with the seafood. The seafood soup and salmon were both insanely good. All the seafood was perfectly cooked and seasoned so well. You could still taste the quality of the seafood while also enjoying the sauces and vegetables that complimented it perfectly. Would come again any day had such a wonderful time.

Yelp
We have dined here a few times now. I wanted to get past the awesome new place in town and dine a few times prior to review. We have thoroughly enjoyed every meal here. The chefs have been on point with the food and seasoning of the dishes we have had. This is a great addition to the downtown. We enjoyed the cucumber grape gazpacho on a hot day and it was amazing. The lazy mussels was an awesome take on serving mussels without the work of getting them out of shell. The way they are presented made it easy to enjoy the broth they were in. The octopus was perfectly cooked and delicious. Oyster selection is top notch. Fish was perfectly seasoned and excellent. Bone in shop was Devine. If you have room for dessert I would go with pot de crème or the cheesecake. Both were delicious

Yelp
Ate here at the end of January for our anniversary and had a lovely window seat with our very own space heater to combat the chill outside. My husband had the MSB Sour which he loved, and I tried the Four Roses bourbon which was... bourbon with an ice cube (not easy to screw that up). We both had the Steak Frites entree; mine was fine but my husband thought his was a little over done for medium/rare. For dessert my husband had the chocolate cheesecake (sans orange marmalade as a personal preference) and I had the Lemon Custard brûlée. The brûlée was good but super lemony. The restaurant is small and a little quirky, which I liked. All in all it was a satisfying meal, however... I had perused their menu ahead of time and was really interested in trying the Bread Pudding entree. When we arrived, this item was no longer on the menu, thus the change to the Steak Frites. It wasn't until we were having dessert that I heard our waiter telling a newly arrived party about the night's specials, which included the Bread Pudding entree. When we mentioned this to him as he dropped off our bill, he actually began arguing with us, insisting that he HAD told us the specials. I'm not sure why any waiter in that position would think we would lie about that, but it did leave a rather bad taste in my mouth (pun intended).

Yelp
Went to Maine Street Bistro with some friends a few weeks ago. Bottles of wine are a great deal here. I had steak frites which I really liked. My husband and his friend got the fish special, they also enjoyed it. It was a good meal and not as expensive as I'd imagined it would be (but we also skipped dessert in favor of gelato fiasco).

Yelp
This is a new restaurant, just open one month. We had an excellent meal. First, the restaurant is small, and the layout is slightly odd, with all the tables pushed out to the periphery and the center of the room unoccupied except for the host's podium. The tables were adequately far apart, all with cushioned benches lining the sides of the room and standard restaurant chairs opposite. The staff was small but nice, attentive and knowledgeable. The menu and drink list are small. There are not a lot of options here, but the options are well chosen. The dishes are elevated, with imaginative matching of ingredients and lovely plating. We eschewed the good looking raw bar menu on this first visit, relying on the limited menu. Instead of choosing main courses, the two of us chose to make our meal from 4 appetizers, which turned out to be plenty for our moderate appetites. First, we had the beef tartare - nicely done, though paired with a slightly sweet bread that clashed just a bit with the flavors of the tartare. Second, we had chilled octopus. Served with grilled bread, the octopus was rendered into a chunky terrine and delivered in slices, topped with a lovely tapenade and some thinly sliced pickled fresno chilis. Again, it was delicious and flavorful, highlighted by the tender octopus. Octopus is a mild flavor - but it was not overwhelmed here, despite being served cold. Third, we had the special - foie gras with a rhubarb jelly and with some delightful tangy marmalade on the side. Again, the slightly sweet bread slices were provided, and in this case the match was delightful. And, last, we had the "lazy mussels" - a thoroughly odd dish that we truly enjoyed. The cooked muscles were delivered in a dense, flavorful broth, and topped with sour beer foam - served with a different savory and crunchier bread. We've never had anything like it. Messy to eat, but it worked very nicely. We split a slice of excellent homemade cheesecake for dessert - that excellent marmalade made another appearance, this time mixed with rhubarb. There was a subtle flavoring in the cheesecake - possibly almonds. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Maine Street Bistro is such a great addition to the neighborhood! Delicious and fresh local Maine seafood and an amazing beer and wine selection. Their oyster po-boy, smash burger and any fish dish are top notch. And you can't go wrong with fresh Maine oysters and clams! YUM!

Yelp
We stopped in here for a quick lunch. We were greeted with a smile and a fun menu. The food was creative and delicious. The gazpacho (cucumber and grape) was fantastic, the lunch and dessert and presentation were wonderful. The music, drinks and atmosphere was relaxing and comfortable. Well done. Will definitely visit again!

DC B.

Yelp
We've been here a few times now-- recommend getting a reservation because it can fill up. Even full, it's not too loud, although with the brick walls it's not super quiet either. Recommend eating on the early side if you want it a little quieter. Fun art, comfortable seating, excellent service are the background pleasures. What gets you to come back is the food. Most recently the arroncini (and the accompanying sauce) were a big hit. Likewise the calamari--which is thinly sliced and lightly battered & really good: it comes on an interesting mix of greens with an understated dressing. The beet salad is a go to pleasure, so is the fondue, although the apples and bread made more sense as sauce conveyors than ice cold raw celery, carrots, and cauliflower (although we ate them all, just not with the sauce). We like to split an appetizer and a salad, and then add whatever looks particularly good to us that night. Save room for dessert-- they are delicious and not too huge. The blondie with raspberry drizzle and vanilla ice cream hit the spot one night.

Yelp
Pork chop! Even the words make me smile. It was one of the specials and was indeed special - peppery, moist and yummy. Other nice things about this place -- They do a generous wine pour -- I love that. And they serve oysters that are hard to fine -- Wet Smacks (I'll write a review about these at some point - one of the best in this oyster haven). We also had a delicious creamy parsnip soup and shared the grilled octopus. The place was hopping and we had a terrific time. We can't wait to go back.

Gary D.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick dinner the other night. They have a small but discerning array of beers on tap. I sampled a couple and also tried the kale and shaved brussels sprouts Caesar salad. Just the right amount of dressing with a few hints of anchovy. It was perfection.

Patricia M.

Yelp
Food was out of this world! Nick was gracious and charming to chat with If you haven't been you need to go

Kersti Y.

Yelp
Dinner tonight far exceeded my expectations. Ambience is nice - bistro vibe, nothing fancy. But the food was way better than local bistro fare. Excellent kale Caesar salad with delish anchovies. Smash burger had a cheese topping and caramelized onions we loved. Best of all was the lazy mussels - served in an exceptional, hard to describe sauce. Order it! The place was busy on a Tuesday night but waiter was great - friendly, funny. Reasonable prices too!

Bill F.

Yelp
Interesting menu with Reliably Good food. Slow service due to inexperience. Nice ambiance with comfortable bench seats. Higher priced than other local restaurants.

Phil C.

Yelp
Had a delightful dinner with my three guests last night. Son and I had the pork chop. Cooked medium, so it was very juicy. Melt in your mouth delicious. Daughter has chicken breast. Again, very juicy. I didn't think chicken could taste this good! Daughter in law ordered steak frites, cooked blue rare. She loved it. Cooked to perfection. Wine list was adequate, but they covered all the bases. We did not try any desserts. All in all, a fantastic meal. Try it... you will NOT be disappointed.

Edward M.

Yelp
Friendly, prompt, unhurried service. Delicious, fresh food thoughtfully presented. The menu and wine list are not exhaustive, but as with everything at this bistro, quality trumps quantity. We look forward to returning.

Jim B.

Yelp
We split 3 apps and they were wonderful! The chef, John, and our waiter, Nick, were great to chat with which made the night!

Tony B.

Yelp
Relaxing ambiance. Attentive service. Amazing and creative food. The "Forest Floor" dish rocked our world. Can't wait to try more creations!

Yelp
We received a glowing 5* recommendation from a friend about Main Street Bistro and were excited to give it a try. Decided on a late lunch but were less than impressed. Service was fine and we sat outside but the food was ho-hum at best. No noticiable flavor in anything except the very bitter romaine lettuce in the Caesar salad. A hint of garlic or lemon or even a punch of worchestire would have been a nice touch, the two small anchovies were very tasty. We both chose the Oyster Po-Boy and sadly, disappointed again. The battered oysters were raw which is fine for a half shell presentation but in a Po-boy we expected a firm, golden fried nugget of briny deliciousness. The batter on the oysters was pale, limp and again unseasoned, another disappointment. We had the aioli on the side and there were a few red pepper flakes but nothing to add a punch of flavor, I guess we should have asked for the salt and pepper shakers. Kettle chips were good but bread was way too tough for this sandwich, a soft roll would have been a much better choice. Maybe it was just an off day, we'd like to try again with some different choices, possible another lunch not ready to take the leap with dinner.

Stephen S.

Yelp
Food was phenomenal. It's not your typical "spaghetti dinner" place, so you will need to keep an open mind and stomach! Friendly staff.

mike r.

Yelp
Just a fabulous dinner and such a welcome addition to the neighborhood. Good is cooked perfectly and service is top notch.
