Le Monument

"If a high-flying culinary adventure sounds appealing, Le Monument offers the perfect opportunity – to the luxurious backdrop of Le Monumental Palace hotel.French chef Julien Montbabut, a recipient of a Michelin star in Paris, adopts a different take here, taking guests on a gastronomic journey through the different regions of Portugal. He rekindles classic recipes from each area, albeit with a more innovative approach that is based around modern cuisine, but which pays homage to native ingredients and respect for flavour. The dining experience is limited to a single tasting menu (choose between a short or long version), and is accompanied by a booklet that provides an explanation of each dish and a map that offers a visual introduction to the region that inspired it." - Michelin Inspector

Maison Albar - Le Monumental Palace (Porto, Norte) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"To be fair, they’re not wrong — it is indeed a Monumental Palace. It’s a 1923 classic whose interiors have been given a thorough Art Deco makeover by Parisian hoteliers Maison Albar, a perfect complement to the building’s historic bones. It includes 63 swanky rooms and suites, a lavish Nuxe spa with a hypnotic indoor pool, and a reincarnation of the original Café Monumental, now three separate venues: there’s the Michelin-starred Le Monument, chef Julien Montbabut’s fine-dining concept, as well as Yakuza, a Japanese restaurant by Oliver Da Costa, and the Mezzanine, for breakfast, just above the lobby." - Tablet Hotels

We had a wonderful 3-night stay. The service was excellent, especially at the front desk, everyone was extremely helpful and welcoming. Our room was cosy and beautifully decorated in an art deco style, very comfortable and well equipped. The breakfast was outstanding, with both a generous buffet and delicious à la carte options — and the service was always quick and attentive. We also enjoyed the spa, which offers a relaxing atmosphere and great therapists. Overall, an exceptional experience. We'll definitely come back!

As a Hyatt Globalist and a Marriott Ambassador, I travel extensively. And this was possibly the worst check-in experience I’ve ever had; it left a very unpleasant taste in my mouth on our first day in Porto. We arrived around 1:30PM and waited about 15-20 minutes for 1 guest before us to be checked in because only one front desk agent was present. When it was our turn, Miguel (front desk) said he could not find our reservation. After I showed him the booking confirmation email, he then said our room was not ready, gave no timeline, and told us to wait indefinitely. Although he spent a very long time solving issues for the guest before us, he rushed us out of the line quickly. While we were waiting again, he proceeded to check in 3-4 other guests who arrived after us, which clearly showed rooms were available. When I questioned this, his colleague Telmo aggressively raised his voice at me, saying that check in is at 3:00 PM. And all this time, both Telmo and Miguel have been checking in other guests before 3pm. After sitting at the lobby for another 10-20minutes, we again approached the desk and were helped by Rita, who found our reservation within minutes and checked us in immediately. We appreciated her professionalism. Unfortunately, Miguel and Telmo were not helpful and handled the situation poorly. This was not about check in time but about poor communication, lack of courtesy, and dishonesty. Also, we were the only Asian guests present, and the situation felt uncomfortable and discriminatory. Aside from Rita, front desk service fell far below expectations for a 5-star Hyatt affiliated property. My wife and I loved Porto and will be back but we will not be staying here again. We wouldn’t recommend staying at this hotel to anyone.

This was our second time staying here and while there are some nice parts, we won’t be staying again. The air conditioning in my parents and brothers rooms were both broken for two of the three nights that we were there, and their only solution was to give them a fan. I would expect more from a five star hotel. Additionally, when we went to check out, they would not give us the rate that we had booked, which included parking, breakfast, and a spa credit. We were running late to the airport and ended up just paying the charges, but it’s so frustrating that they weren’t honoring the rate that we had booked. We now have to go find the confirmation and get them to credit us.

We were very impressed with the hotel , the amenities and the friendly staff. It was our first time in Porto and it was one of our favorite stops on our 2 week trip. A special shout out to our new friends we met at the bar, Gerson and Bilal and several others that were so much fun! Be sure to go say hi to them.

We found the staff so friendly and helpful. They made the stay comfortable and memorable.||The room category was upgraded through our booking agent, and was a bit small but luxurious. We enjoyed the bar and thought the paint player was a nice touch in the background. Perhaps they they should limit the singer to single set. The additional artist changes the music from background to a focal point, making conversation difficult.

During our stay at Maison Albar in Porto, we experienced truly magical moments. The highlight was when we entered our room and found beautiful flowers, a handwritten card, and a bottle of wine awaiting us, it was simply enchanting. Mr. Cerqueira stood out for his exceptional kindness and attentiveness, always ready to help. The entire team was equally wonderful, making us feel incredibly welcome and cared for. Additionally, we were impressed by the two exquisite restaurants within the hotel, each offering delightful culinary experiences. The atmosphere was tranquil, the cleanliness was impeccable, and throughout our entire stay, we felt as though we were in a safe haven, adding a layer of comfort and relaxation to our experience.

The hotel is very comfortable and modern from inside (recently renovated) whilst in a traditional historic building. The service provided by the reception staff with a smile was excellent. I loved their flexibility in enabling my visiting guests park their car in the hotel garage.||||Breakfast service is very good too. The choice of items on self service bar plus on menu provide a great range of choices. ||||Hotel is well located within easy walk from Sao Bento Station

Everything about our two night stay was impressive: from the breakfast, to the impeccable service from the staff and excellent location -- all exceeded our expectations. It was so relaxing and romantic. We highly recommend this hotel and thank the team for taking good care of us!

Yelp
A wonderful stay at a luxurious hotel in the heart of the city. What made this stand out was when checking in, the front desk noticed it was my partner's birthday and surprised us with champagne and a cake on the right day. Wow, great service and attention to detail! Overall, as you'd expect, the rooms were comfortable and breakfast was delicious (and with a surprisingly good variety). We didn't get to try other meals but they looked great. Throughout the stay, the staff were very attentive and helpful. I highly recommend a visit and we'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Classic case of over promise and under deliver.... Beware they try to sell you tours and if you change your mind or can't make it they try to charge you anyway... when checking in they took us to a special room and asked our preferences for everything from towels to turndown to type of coffee pods in the room and delivered on none of it. Beautiful hotel but buyer beware especially if from USA
