Maison Chinoise - Review - River Oaks - Houston - The Infatuation

"Maison Chinoise, a Chinese restaurant from Dallas, has opened its second Texas location in the River Oaks Shopping Center. The space is dark and moody with a striking muraled ceiling. While the menu features dim sum, fancy dumplings, and Chinese classics—kurobuta pork dumplings with lobster essence, peking duck for two or four, Singapore noodles, and Texas wagyu Mongolian beef." - Brooke Viggiano

My husband and I decided to try out Maison Chinoise for lunch and we were pleasantly impressed by the decor of the place. For cocktails I ordered the Lychee luck and the Dragon lady, both amazing! Food wise we ordered the ox tail dumplings, the duck fried rice and the crispy crab wontons. All great choices but the one thing I would go back for are the ox tail dumplings! The best dumplings I’ve had in a while. Our server Everant was very attentive and well informed on the restaurant chain and the menu. Will definitely request him again. Highly recommend him as a server.

Absolutely incredible dining experience at Maison Chinoise in Houston! The lobster ravioli was rich and perfectly cooked, the crab croquettes were crisp and flavorful, and the fried rice was simply amazing. The Peking duck was outstanding — tender, juicy, and beautifully presented. Our server Damien was amazing — attentive, friendly, and made our evening even more enjoyable. The service overall was excellent, and the ambiance elegant yet welcoming. We truly enjoyed everything and will definitely be coming back again soon!

I celebrated my bday here yesterday. Typically im not a fan of Chinese food but wanted to give this place a try since its new and is a sister restaurant to Lombardi (which i love). Everything we ordered was amazing! The service was great and the restaurant is beautiful!!! It is small so reservation is probably necessary but we had a reservation and we were sat as soon as we walked in. The best thing I tried was the Mongolian beef. Also, the presentation was beautiful! I will definitely be back.

The restaurant was indeed very pretty. I am very much, in love with the design and decoration. Their staffs were nice and friendly, we were greeted and seated pretty fast . They also offer to choose the seats (inside, patio, booth, bar…) We came with one 7 months old baby, and they were friendly with the little human too 👍🏻 Their food was nice presented, the taste was average to me. Their prices were higher , i think it’s reasonable for the location, decoration and services. It’s a nice spot for hang out with ladies 🌸

This was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a while. Lyndsey, the GM, made sure every detail was addressed. She talked to every patron and made sure everyone was having an exceptional experience. We just met her Saturday night and learned so much about the restaurant. Our waiter Kevin was great also. He made sure our order was spot on and served all the dishes to us individually. Besides the awesome staff, the restaurant is gorgeous…it is the place to see and be seen. Finally, the food was amazing!!! You can’t go wrong with any of the dishes and the crew can give you the best recommendation. Thank you for a wonderful evening!!! Can’t wait to come back!

We truly enjoyed our first night at Maison Chinoise! From start to finish, the experience was exceptional. The staff was warm and welcoming, and we loved getting to know Chef Jordan, especially hearing about his time in China and his brand-new baby girl (congratulations!). He was so kind and personable, and his Peking duck was the best we’ve ever had—and that’s saying something, as we’ve even had it in China prepared by a renowned chef. We also had the pleasure of meeting the general manager, Lindsay, whose vision for Maison Chinoise is inspiring. She’s smart, thoughtful, and clearly passionate about creating a culture that shines through in both the team and the atmosphere. Our server, Everett, provided impeccable service, knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely kind. The ambience and décor are beautiful, the music is classy, and the space feels both elegant and comfortable, like a place where everyone knows each other. The sense of community and care is refreshing. As for the food, everything was outstanding. The Peking duck was absolutely phenomenal, the ribs were delicious and beautifully presented, and both the pot stickers and pork wontons were fresh and perfectly made. Even the General Tso’s chicken lived up to every expectation. We’re already looking forward to coming back and bringing friends. Thank you for a wonderful evening!

Google
Great service great food and great price. The mocktails were also very refreshing especially the lychee one. The manager and all the staff were extra friendly to our 8 month old who stayed entertained the entire time. Damian was our server and extremely helpful and knowledgeable with the menu and recommendations. Will definitely be back soon.

Google
I am so happy they finally opened! This was much anticipated and the food, in addition to the amazing service, did not fail my expectations! Presentation, 10/10, food from the dumplings to dessert, 10/10, and best of all, service! Service here is impeccable! Bartenders are the best - Vincent (my absolute favorite) and Kennedy as well as Lauren!!!! The GM, Lindsay, did an amazing job with making sure inclusively, the overall experience is top notch. We are so glad you finally opened!

Yelp
This is a newly opened high end Chinese restaurant in Houston, with possibly the best tasting Peking duck I've had outside of China. We ordered the Wagyu fried rice (amazing), Iberico wonton soup (great flavors), the chili prawns (great), and a full order of the Peking duck. The duck meat was succulent and flavorful, the crepes were made to perfection, and the sides/sauces went perfectly with the duck. The cocktails were delicious, the ambiance was immaculate (we got a great view of both the bar and the kitchen), and the service was fantastic. Our toddler accidentally knocked down a pair of chopsticks and someone magically appeared with brand new chopsticks within seconds. We got great recommendations, they checked on us often, gave us a refresh of the crepes and sides, and helped us box up the leftovers when it was all said and done. I had a 10/10 experience here, and will definitely bring the whole family back next time!!

Yelp
I'm concerned but will update after I dine here myself. A friend whom I trust said it was not good. We shall see. They are still in their Houston honeymoon period and I shall a few months til they have settled in. For now I shall five star them. My friend would have done one star

Yelp
When this place first opened up, I came in to look for a spot at the bar, but it seemed a bit of a hot mess, so I decided to give it a week for them to work the kinks out. I'm glad I did because now, it looks and feels a lot smoother. The bar area is a good place to grab a bite and reservations seem effortless; there's also usually a good crowd for people watching. Service is good and food comes out fast and tasty. Prices of course are much higher than if your in China town area but we're in the River Oaks area so there will be an increase in normal fare. With that said I would consider the prices reasonable for the portion size you get. The menu is quite extensive and a lot of really good choices. Items I could recommend or are worth a try is the Crispy Rock Shrimp, spicy basil aioli, jalapeño aoli. Lettuce Cups with Organic Chicken jicama, celery, mixed bell peppers. Iberico Pork Wonton Soup chicken broth, pork. Pan-Fried Organic Chicken Buns and from the main entree General Tso's Wilf Caught Salmon baby bok choy, sugar peas, lotus roots, mixed bell peppers. These were all tasty options but I also thought the menu had a lot more good choices too. I guess the only reason i didn't give it my normal 5 stars is that I thought for the area, the design aesthetic could have been more creative and could and should be able to wow us better. Overall I do enjoy this place I would for sure recommend to anyone to give this place a try.

Yelp
I walked in a week ago with a sense of excitement, curious and adventurous. Lindsay left me with a sense of emptiness and embarrassment. I was informed about this place from a gentleman at Cocodys (across the street) after an event. He mentioned that a few team members was going to visit Maison Chinoise after work, for their soft open. Along with the complementary treat samples they had. However, when I visit, it really wasn't a warm greet, it was more of a dry greet and a reservation seems to be a requirement, she was kind enough to inform Management who approached and the vibe was very off, you know the people who have that animation smile that rest behind sarcasm voice. She didn't even give me a menu to view for me to even pique interest if I want to return. I felt very unwelcome by Manager Lindsay As a manager you want to leave a positive impression to create the feeling of an inviting back. They still had folks mingling and drinking. Verses Cocodys was cleaning, and I was greeted sweetly with sincere and offered to view a menu. Because once I heard French I was not expecting to return so quickly. I came back less than 72 hours later to break bread at their location for my Halloween birthday. Maison Chinoise, had me asking was it my attire? Which I wasn't clear on the answer. Due to this (you need to leave now energy). As if their were closed and it was a construction site that required a hardhat and steel toe boots. It's definitely space for opportunity for Customer service here. I was looking forward to see what Maison had to offer verses spending time at Fancy's. Maybe she was having an off day. Maybe I'll give them a try on a forgiving heart day. I don't see it being any time soon. I like feeling good when I leave an establishment. She made me feel very uninvited.

Yelp
I've been looking forward to this place opening for months as I'm a huge fan of its next door neighbor B19, and this place didn't disappoint. I was impressed by the service, quality of food, and ambiance. I decided to sit at the bar to have dinner, and Kennedy the bartender was phenomenal. Attentive, but also respectful and relaxed. I started with the Pandan Espresso Martini, which I LOVED. A true classic with a subtle twist with the slight Pandan sweetness. Not too sweet, of course. Then opted for the Way of Xian Wei, their variation of an old fashioned. Same as the espresso martini -- really kept it true to the classic with a subtle twist. Perfect. I'd order both again in the future. Both 5/5. For dinner, I had: Crispy Wagyu Beef Rolls: 5/5. Love the crispy covering. Reminds me of the Vietnamese crispy net spring rolls, a favorite of mine. Grilled Sea Bass: 5/5. Perfectly cooked with a nice crust. The vegetables included were a nice addition. Crispy Golden Prawns: 4/5. Their version of honey walnut shrimp. A tad too rich and sweet for me, but still delicious. Dan Dan Noodles: 4/5. Great flavor with just enough kick and noodles had a nice texture. Overall, I was impressed and will definitely come back!

Yelp
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! Love this restaurant in Dallas and the Houston location did not disappoint. Great service and the place is nice and clean. We sat at the bar and the ambiance is nice. The floral ceilings and everything. The staff is excellent. Smoked old fashion was great. All the dumplings are perfect snd so is the duck. Really everything was excellent and will be back many times.

Yelp
Came here with my sister for dinner and had the best time! The chicken lettuce wraps and duck were phenomenal and Vince took the BEST care of us! Make sure to ask for him!! Will be coming back very soon!

Yelp
Costly meals in a Fast Food Atmosphere - again. I'm finding this to be common where nice restaurants are commandeered by customers who listen to podcasts on their phone Without headphones or take calls on Speaker or dress like they rolled out of bed. It ruins the overall experience. But the menu and service at Maison was overall good.

Yelp
Had a fantastic lunch service today. John took incredible care of us with exceptional attention to detail, great recommendations, and just a fun vibe. Peking duck was probably the best I've had. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
3/10, just so horrible, but I should note that the manager was kindest soul ever, but on the other hand the food lacked in practically every aspect, the dumplings were 6/10 at best with a subpar sauce and the Peking duck was a 7/10 (just extremely overpriced and lukewarm) The decor nicely furnished the place and the plating for dishes was top notch but the orange dessert was way over sweetened and MIRCOGREENS ON A DESSERT folks this is absurd, just give me nuance that's not shoving overpriced chlorophyll onto the plate. I would never recommend you to go unless you're craving some reasonable duck that's in the inner loop and you're ready to ball. For advice, please don't overcrowd the customer, our waiter kept on checking our table every 3 minutes, and it simply felt like we had no space. Moreover, please add spice(fresnos or any pepper for that matter) to drunken noodles, bland noodles are not good noodles. Overall, I believe this place has promise because of its prime location and immaculate plating(literally just dry ice, but it wowed me). Although, currently the actual flavors and some of the waitstaff are not cutting it.

Yelp
Food and drinks were amazing, service was great, food portions made sense, the only issue we had was one of the dishes ordered came with shrimp and chicken, and though the noodle portion was there it only had 1 piece of chicken and two pieces of shrimp. But the ambiance was beautiful.

Yelp
Food was great! Service was a tad slow, but everyone was very attentive. A bit hard to hear each other, but think it was our table. Chairs on one side and a banquet on the other. We look forward to dining again soon!

Yelp
It's a bit expensive for very ordinary Chinese food but the atmosphere and environment are very warm and romantic- a nice experience

Yelp

Yelp
I don't always leave reviews but like Brittany in a review from last week...something was just off. The staff themselves didn't make me feel welcome except for my server Natalia who was great. She even read the reservation notes that it was my birthday and provided a beautifully presented birthday treat at the end. However, the ambiance of the place and patrons was less than inviting to me and my wife as a mixed couple. We were well dressed in formal attire and even the people outside were giving that you don't belong here vibe which I usually ignore (especially in River Oaks) but it bothered me on this occasion. The Food - honestly other than the scallop entree was average at best. I've had better tasting dishes in Chinatown. However, the decor is gorgeous and it's really a shame because I will not be dining here again nor will I be recommending it either.

Yelp
The staff is so attentive and the food was DELICIOUS! Went there for my birthday and they went above and beyond to make it special. Such a beautiful space.

Yelp
Hostess very welcoming. Must make a reservation because its very busy. Went to the bar to grab a drink while waiting on table..the bartenders don't even look up or pay attention to anyone standing at the bar. Neither were friendly whatsoever. Took awhile. And a manager to get their attention. The manager i will say was amazing..he was very friendly and attentive. Sat at our table and greeted by a nice server. We ordered appetizers chicken lettuce wraps which needed a lot more flavor, crab wonton pretty dry..the wrap wasn't good at all. Plus one of the appetizers the server forgot to put in and it came with my friends main dishes..while i was still waiting awhile for mine and then waited even longer for fried rice I ordered with mine because the server didn't put it in correctly. She got the lobster dumplings and wagu pot stickers both were ok. I got the crispy orange beef which was really good just alittle too sweet. And for dessert banana spring rolls worst thing we ate all night. No flavor totally bland could use some cinnamon on top and maybe chocolate to dip into..but it was tasteless. All in all service was slow, food took awhile to come out. Vibe was really nice..drinks really great. Manager he gets five stars...hope to try again..

Yelp
I would love to say i highly recommend this place. Food great atmosphere amazing. Firstly I would like to emphasize what I'm saying in this review is not how I was treated during my dining experience. So..... here goes. I've seen this place and I thought hey this may be good, being that this is an upscale place I got dressed up and went in. I had the Mongolian beef and rock shrimp I was with someone it treated the bill was 200. Not bad the food was worth it!!! Fast forward a few days later I returned to the restaurant and I wasn't dressed I wasn't in to eat. I was there in uniform and the way I was treated was absolutely disgusting. I'm not gonna go into extreme detail but I was definitely racially profiled to the point of insulting my intelligence. Now when I was here look to "PAR" everyone smiled laughed treated me with respect because I was dressed a certain way. But as a regular person I was made to feel like DIRT by a supervisor unfortunately her name is Lindsay. Based on another review I'm definitely sure Lindsay does not prefer people of color. I don't appreciate it and I will not be returning EVER. I wanted to plan an event in this restaurant but I REFUSE TO GIVE UP MY HARD EARNED MONEY TO SOMEONE THATS GONNA TREAT ME LIKE DIRT AS SOON AS I DONT LOOK TO PAR.

Joel G.

Yelp
This is a very pretty restaurant with standard fair Chinese food at very expensive prices. Reminds me of the now closed Benny Chow. Two appetizers one main course and rice for $120. Pretty bathrooms.

Yelp
Went for birthday brunch but we ordered off the main menu. Had the chef's dim sum selection, har gow, claypot tofu/eggplant, snapper and scallops. The har gow was excellent albeit kinda pricey ($18/6 pcs), the other dishes were good except the snapper was disappointing. It was a just a dry piece of fried fish. Our waiter, Kevin, was very efficient and courteous. However there was a guy named Damien who came by our table when the dim sum was served, and he was very rude and condescending when we asked him a question about the dim sum. I don't know why he even came by to introduce the dish when our waiter was fully capable. That marred our otherwise pleasant meal. Btw even if the hostess asked about the birthday, nothing extra/special was said or done. Pricey for the small servings of food. It wasn't crowded, probably only half the place was occupied and a group of the staffers (including Damien) were just idling at the bar.

Yelp
Well, after all the build-up and hype, time for the experience. And .... aw shucks. Easy on the eye, and ... that's about it. Went on Saturday 8th November in the evening, dinner for four in the main area. Quickly seated in great location and looking around you get a sense of what the hype has been all about. Surrounded by beautiful people, smart waiters, Peking ducks rotating in the corner, a stunning ceiling, great chairs and a bustle you rarely get to appreciate. We sit in expectation, hoping for an experience to match the media narrative of excellence. But then the first smidgeon of a concern when having to explain the waitress what a gimlet is. But when it came, happily nothing to complain about (though I had a better one the night before at Potente). But then the table ordered different potstickers (shrimp and lobster) to start and they were instantly forgettable; lacking in taste, and texture too chewy. How can you make something so tasteless? For our main my wife and I had the chilli shrimp and it was disappointing to put it mildly - all chilli and 5 shrimps that were remarkably tasteless as well. We tried the dessert as well - the banana dish was a hit (rightly so) but the chocolate ice cream was meh at best. Overall, there was little for me to consider returning for; the caveat of course being its early in its life and a need to sort out teething problems. But frankly, having taken two friends out and promised them a great experience, I was left slightly embarrassed between the sell and the outcome. Fingers crossed for a better time in the future.
