best Mexican in Newtown, and you can't change my mind. highly recommend an alcohol-free marg to get ya started!!
we started off with a hug in a mug Esquites $10, slow-cooked corn in epazote broth, chili mayonnaise, cheese, piquin chili & lime. punchy, zesty yet comforting all in one.
for a little side we nabbed the Papas a la Diabla $14, fried chat potatoes, served with fermented chillies sauce, jocoque & dill. soft and filling!
we shared a couple Taquito Al Pastor $10 each, char pork tenderloin "al pastor", with fresh tortillas, tepache glaze, morita & pineapple salsa. that pineapple salsa had a kick but was full of flavour. we also shared the Tostada de Callo y Camarón $16 each, a scallop & prawn tostada, with fennel, cucumber, jalapeño, avocado, coriander & lime dressing which was a great refreshing bite.
another cold dish, the Aguachile de Temporada $26 with cured market fish, basil and chilli verde aguachile, cucumber & watermelon was lovely to cleanse the palate with its fresh and bright profile.
for mains, we had to order the Volcan de Pulpo $38. A Grilled Fremantle octopus served on a crispy tostada, with pasilla chilli adobo, Oaxaca cheese, char pineapple salsa, avocado purée, cherry tomatoes & Octopus consomé on the side. Just wow, this dish was mind-blowingly satisfying, and that consome was just unreal in flavour. recommend to drink a sip after each bite of the octopus!
a sweet treat was definitely needed, we ordered the Tamal $18, sweet corn tamal, seasonal fruit, vanilla bean Chantilly which was not only unique but delicate and warm. you should absolutely order this one!
