"Maize is a new Mexican restaurant set to debut in Memorial later this fall. It will focus on various Mexican culinary traditions, including coastal cuisine, street food, and dishes from the country’s interior. The restaurant will feature dishes like chorizo-filled blue corn huaraches and barbacoa de res slow-cooked in agave leaves. Drinks will include tequila, mezcal, other Mexican spirits, and an extensive wine list. The dining room is expansive, with several private rooms and a large U-shaped bar." - Brittanie Shey

Hidden gem off of Memorial and Dairy Ashford. A culinary experience you will not forget but in a casual atmosphere. All fresh made creations are delicious and even gluten free which does not compromise the flavors. The cocktails are also incredible. Amazing Chef behind the scenes and you see and taste every detail of your dish! A must stop - don’t miss it before it’s too hard to get a table.

Tried the HRW lunch menu, flavorful dishes. Creative contemporary styled Mexican cuisine; fine dining presentation with affordable prices. All well prepared and beautifully plated. Friendly staffs, warm greeting from entry to exit Strong, solid cocktails (like that!). A giant space, plenty of seating with private rooms. And supplementary parking spaces in the parking lot across the street.

This place should have more reviews. Definitely the best authentic Mexican restaurant in this part of Houston. Everything is made to order. The food is so fresh and good!! We’ve eaten here 3 times, and will likely come back often. My favorite cocktail is the Beso De Fuego. You should try it. Also try the grilled oysters and the ravioli. Parking is tight, so you may have to park down the street. Reservations are accepted, but we’ve never had one when we dined.

The food was delicious!! I think the portions were a good size. I had the special of the day which was a 3 course meal with enmoladas, Chamorro de cerdo & the chocolate cake with ice cream. We also ordered the flautas and escamoles which were also delicious! I will definitely be coming back

Houston is known for its food variety especially Mexican food. I found Maize from HRW website and it immediately catched my attention because of its authenticity. Servers are great and nice. However the waiting between courses are uncommonly long. Very modern decor and ambiance. Apparently they want to bring chic vibe to this restaurant and they successfully did it. You can find really authentic Mexican food in Houston but I admit it’s hard to find a high-end authentic Mexican restaurant. To be honest, it is good but is it outstanding? I would not want to pay $16 -$30 each dish I had today.

Great new restaurant in the Heights! Loved the ambiance and the outdoor patio. Food and drinks were all so great!! Can't wait to go back and try more stuff off the menu! My fave was the Ceviche, Shrimp and the Corn that's not pictured because it was that good I never got a picture! Lol!! Follow me at @howto713_ for more!

Came here for a solo birthday date. It just so happened to be Houston Restaurant Week. I ordered the maize pasta, barbacoa, merengue horneados and cintli cocktail. Service was superb! SUPERB! The food was very good. The 3 courses were $39. I’d definitely return ... Id just sit on the patio or bar area. The dining area only had 2 other parties, one of which were extremely loud. It was a bit hard to enjoy the moment with a labor and delivery nurse talking in extreme expletive detail.

We had Sunday brunch here. The restaurant is part of Houston Restaurants Weeks so they offer a special HRW menu and their regular brunch menu. When we first arrived our service was excellent, however as the restaurant became more crowded as it got later in the afternoon the service became really slow in between courses. Our server was excellent! Actually everyone there was pretty amazing the service is really outstanding and someone always comes to your table to make sure if you need something. I decided on two appetizers, the first was the Rojo Ceviche. The menu states the dish consists of red snapper, which it looked different than the pictures I saw online. Unfortunately I did not really enjoy this dish and I love a good ceviche, however the red sauce that's poured over the fish I didn't really care for. My other appetizer was the Tacos Dorados which basically taquitos in a salsa Verde sauce. I actually enjoyed this dish much better than the ceviche! But it's just taquitos, there was nothing special or extraordinary about it. I ordered 2 cocktails and they were AMAZING! If you like spicy definitely try the Beso De Fuego! Also try the El Caldero for an Instagram worthy video/picture. For dessert I ordered the churros (you only get 3 pieces for $12) I've had better in the subways of NYC however my daughter liked it. Service was exceptionally slow between meals and getting our checks. My overall thoughts on Maize...Nice decor, amazing service & cocktails and mediocre food.
