I am a little bit torn on posting this review. Maji has some of the best sushi I've ever had, but I hope it doesn't get too busy to where I can never get a table.
We started with the shrimp tempura because they were out of the baby octopus tempura. The shrimp was very good, and the batter was light and crispy. Octopus next time!
Next, we moved onto the salmon tartare which has a very unique presentation, and it was amazing - - fresh salmon and perfectly ripe avocados topped with an egg yolk. It is always difficult to get a runny egg just right, and this one was perfect. It was runny but with a little bit of stickiness that helped hold everything together in the dish.
After that, we got 2 types of nigiri, unagi and a different type of maguro (forgot the name but melts in the mouth). Then, the chef brought out an additional tuna with a special soy sauce that was slightly seared. It was phenomenal and had a slightly smoky taste to it.
We tried the Snow Mountain Roll (yellowtail, crab, white tuna with rice and two sauces) and the Tuna Lover Roll (no rice, salmon, crab, and avocado wrapped in soy paper then topped with tuna and yuzu ponzu).
The inside is cute and only holds 39 people. The only suggestion I have is to put some pillows along the bench seat to lean against. They serve all filtered water, and the service was great.
Dallas really needs more restaurants like this that are small, cozy, and unique with character. Everything here was top-notch! Highly recommend and added some photos of the dishes we tried and the inside (at lunchtime).
