The Best Breakfast Restaurants in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"There’s one solid bet for a local breakfast in the heart of the Central Business District, and that’s Commerce, a classic daytime diner that’s been in the same Sicilian immigrant family for more than 50 years. It’s a true mom-and-pop spot, serving Southern morning-time specialties with a Cajun influence that are served all day. While not much has changed here over the years, in the last few years Commerce has added weekend hours, bloody marys, mimosas, and alternative milks." - Beth D’Addono

The Best Restaurants Near New Orleans’s Superdome | Eater New Orleans

"A great pre-game breakfast option, Commerce dishes diner classics, along with zippy bloody marys and a full bar during opening hours, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hearty portions include three-egg omelets (get the Cajun shrimp), smash burgers, seafood po’ boys, and breakfast biscuits. The menu surprises, like the burger on a buttered brioche bun with chimichurri, roasted peppers, and provolone — just ask for the Argentinian." - Beth D’Addono

This place was an amazing. The food and service was great. It was so good that we did it two mornings in a row! We had already started eating before I remembered to take pictures!

One of the best breakfast places in town 😉 We went for brunch around 10 a.m. on Thursday; few tables were available, but many people came and went. It was a very busy place! Their giant biscuits were amazing! They were moisturized inside and freshly baked. I wanted to take one biscuit back, too. Maybe next time, I will order one to go as well. I love hash potatoes, so I ordered it double but I saw their hash brown is the diced potato not shredded potato haha 😅

Rolled into NOLA for a work conference and it is HOT. But I didn’t want my first meal here to be in the hotel, so I was delighted to find this spot a three-minute walk from the Sheraton. The catfish po boy (fully dressed, of course) was perfection, and the sweet potato fries were a cut above. Great atmosphere, too.

My fiancé and I agree - the best biscuits and gravy ever! Loaded with sausage and the perfect amount of salt and seasoning. We shared an order of shrimp and grits and the biscuits and gravy. Both really good! Make sure you upgrade to a biscuit with the shrimp. We are talking about coming back again tomorrow morning.

Best breakfast i had in New Orleans with amazing service. Tried a few dishes and they were all very flavorful. On weekends, they have shrimp and grits!

Google
Sweet, nostalgic decor. Friendly, fast, attentive service. This place is great if you’re wanting a typical diner experience with a Louisiana twist. We ordered the hot honey chicken sandwich (“Sis’ spicy chicken breast”) and the “Bayou State” omelet. The eggs were diner-style over cooked and it was under seasoned. I asked for a side of strawberry compote to go with my biscuit but I was almost afraid to eat it because it looked so unappealing. I later found out that the white chunks mixed in with the strawberry was butter. I ate it and again, it was just ok. The biscuit was good. Families with kids would love this place. Easy to order, friendly staff and quick in and out! For me, the food was only “ok”. Being in such a “foodie” city, I’d be inclined to go somewhere else next time.

Google
My boss recommended that I come here for brunch so I figured I would check it out. I sat at the bar. Service was very quick and friendly. Once I ordered, my food was out very quickly. The Camp Street Original spoke to me as a sausage and pepper omelet with their signature sauce. With a little extra Louisiana hot sauce on top, it really popped. I added a biscuit on the side in lieu of toast and loved that too. I would recommend that anyone in New Orleans come here if they have the chance.

Yelp
Amazing local cafe with outstanding breakfast. The biscuits were some of the best I've had; huge, soft and buttery. I ordered the sandwich twice and the biscuits benedict once, all were amazing. Portions are huge and the prices are very reasonable. Great service and friendly staff.

Yelp
Visiting New Orleans. Commerce first timers. Ambiance and service were great. Diner setting. Food was tasty tho so-so value. My three egg omelette was $20 because I maxed out with 5 fillings, however omelette was dainty. Pancakes not tasty. Not worth going out of your way for but if you are in neighborhood it's a good choice.

Yelp
Being the closest restaurant to our hotel, this was our first breakfast in town. The food was so good! The service was friendly and quick. We ended up coming back three times in five days.

Yelp
Stumbled across this gem last night and chose to make it my brunch spot today simply based on the chicken biscuit menu item. Did not disappoint. Walk in and seat yourself ... waitress took my order and even recommended a special drink menu option ... peach Bellini. Added a side of cheese grits to my order. You'll need a knife and fork and some extra napkins cause that biscuit is fragile and covered in hot honey. The chicken is right Otta the fryer so just start with the fork. The grits were underwhelming ... and I had to add a little butter and take that plug outta the antique pepper shaker to get enough to make a difference. This is a great spot, diner vibes, pay your check at the table ... and walk away happy.

Yelp
Not a fancy brunch stop. The sisi spicy chicken biscuit was DELICIOUS. The biscuit was moist, the chicken fried to perfection and the spicy honey was the perfect touch. The omelette and the Loaded Tater scrambler were just ok. Just like any Regular breakfast you can get anywhere. The line was insane and the place is so tiny it was super crowded. Service was fairly fast compared to how packed the place was. Coffee was decent. I can definitely say I have tried It. Won't be back.

Yelp
Staff were friendly and efficient. In and out quickly if need be. Bar seating and table seating. Small or large groups could be accommodated. Road construction so hard to find parking, but it's also the area in general is touristy. Only got the spicy chicken biscuit for food and it was soo good! Lathered in spicy honey. Biscuit was cooked well. The crunch on the chicken was perfect. No complaints. Glad it was not overly sweetened or salted. Would definitely come back! Happy eating

Yelp
Best. chicken. biscuit. Ever. Biting into the biscuit is like straight butter. My only complaint is it's so crumbly I had to use a fork after a couple bites. The chicken with their chili honey sauce had me smacking my lips. Service was excellent and I love the whole old school diner feel on the inside. A must visit for a great breakfast.

Yelp
I had such a great experience at this restaurant that I went back twice during my visit, specifically for the burger! I'm not usually someone who craves a burger, but this one was cooked perfectly. I ordered it medium/medium well, and it was delicious both times. We had it split for two, which is why you'll see it cut in half in the photos. I had fries, and my mom had grits. She raved about the grits--describing them as buttery with great flavor. While I'm not a fan of grits myself, I'll take her word for it! The fries were light, crispy, and really enjoyable, so much so that I had them both visits. I also tried the sweet potato fries, which I usually love, but these were just a 4/5 for me. They could have been a bit crisper, but overall, they were fine. I went back the next afternoon for lunch during my conference, and the burger was just as good. My boss joined me and ordered the same thing, and we both agreed it was excellent! The service was fantastic. I had the same server both times, and while I can't remember her name, she was wonderful--attentive and quick. As for the ambiance, the inside of the restaurant is super charming with a lot of vintage memorabilia, including a cool bar area that fits perfectly with the theme. I especially loved the retro bar signage, which seemed to be from the 60s or 70s (though I might be off on the timeframe--check out my photo!). Overall, great food, service, and atmosphere!

Yelp
Over the years, I've had the fortune to visit NOLA multiple times, and for a hearty breakfast with excellent service, I find myself returning over and over to Majoria's Commerce Restaurant. Walking in feels homey in the best way, as I was greeted warmly, seated quickly and got launched with ice water and hot coffee. Went with the staple All-American breakfast, which included two properly cooked over easy eggs, two thick cut slices of meaty bacon, a warm fluffy biscuit, and a bowl of hot tasty grits topped with melting butter. Straightforward and delicious. My coffee cup was always full throughout my breakfast, and I didn't feel rushed despite it getting busier. I'm already looking forward to starting the day right at Majoria's the next time I'm in New Orleans!

Yelp
This was right next to my hotel and the receptionist actually recommended it as a breakfast spot since the hotel didn't have breakfast. It was a cute little diner/cafe style place with quick service and seemed to have a lot of history based on the decor on the walls. The bacon egg and cheese biscuit was simple but delicious.

Yelp
What a fantastic, friendly spot! Our server was amazing, the biscuit was out of this world, and even the eggs and orange juice were top-notch. My husband had the po'boy with sausage, eggs, and avocado--it looked absolutely incredible. Don't miss the chance to check this place out!p

Yelp
My friends and I came for a quick breakfast and I fell in love with their hot honey chicken biscuit. I didn't even need the country potatoes, which were delicious, BTW. My friends enjoyed their breakfast as well. I would have taken a picture but I was too busy eating! Super cute restaurant on the edge of the French quarter, a true gem!

John M. S.

Yelp
Nothing special about this place for us when we went. Food was mediocre, service was good and prices high for what you get. Quaint diner but again nothing remarkable.
google avatar

Patrick C.

Yelp
Awesome breakfast. Had all American breakfast. All was good- eggs bacon and grits had a good taste to all Customer Service was good, even though can't break up a check between 2 people. SMH Lot of seating inside
google avatar

Andrew S.

Yelp
The biscuits were everything I was hoping they would be. And made into a Hot Honey Chicken sandwich was their best use. And I learned that Nola hash browns aren't the same as West Coast grated potatoes. They're much closer to what we'd call skillet potatoes. But they were absolutely delicious in any case. Staff are lovely and the space is cute. Just be prepared to wait on busy days

Yelp
We came to Commerce on our last morning in New Orleans and wished we had found it sooner. The staff was very kind, the service was fast, and the food was delicious. We came in around 10 am on a weekday and the restaurant was pretty crowded but we were seated immediately. The space is quite small and crowded. You can easily hear conversations happening around you. The flapjack stack is three fluffy buttery pancakes with strawberry compote and powdered sugar. They were sweet, tart, and very filling. The CBB is an open faced biscuit with breakfast sausage, jalapeños, and cheese sauce topped with eggs. For us, this was the real star of the show. It was savory, salty, and just truly delicious. We also got the cafe au lait but would skip it next time. It didn't have the strong coffee taste that we were looking for. Regardless, Commerce Restaurant is a great breakfast and brunch spot, and we'd love to return to try some other menu items!

Mike H.

Yelp
Best biscuit Best grits Best unique NOLA food offerings. Ate 5 other places and returned here and also Mena's. Sorry Menas but this one wins. Attentive service and appropriate portions.

Yelp
Spicy Honey Chicken Biscuit - Definitely lived up to its hype. It's not as spicy as you would think which is a great thing. You definitely would need a fork/knife to eat it. The chicken itself had a good breeder that aided in how good it was. Omlette - Sausage, bacon, mushroom and cheese omelette - yes they use real egg. Hasbrowns were cooked thoroughly - Absolutely enjoyed this place. Definitely go while in town at least for breakfast.
google avatar

Yelp
Full bar breakfast and lunch place. They definitely hit it out of the park! Generous portions and great prices. Definitely a must !
google avatar

Yelp
Quick, pleasant service. The spicy-sweet chicken biscuit was excellent. The decor was somewhat kitschy.
google avatar

Deborah J.

Yelp
We were seated immediately by a very sweet waitress. The restaurant appears to be quite clean and well kept. I ordered the All American Breakfast and my husband the Cajun Shrimp Omelette. Both were delicious! My only complaint was the bacon was pretty flimsy. However, has browns and wheat toast were very good. My husband loved his omelette. Prices were also reasonable. We plan to come back before we leave New Orleans.
google avatar

Ruth B.

Yelp
Yummy breakfast spot. I had the biscuit with a cheesy jalapeño sauce and two eggs on top. Hubby had pancakes with strawberry compote also good.

Trey R.

Yelp
Great place to grab breakfast! If there's a line it moves pretty quickly. Good service and the food is great!

Yelp
If you're visiting New Orleans, I recommend checking out Majorie's Commerce! A friend and I visited while in town for a conference and the breakfast was delicious. There wasn't a long wait time and we received great customer service. We ordered the pancakes with a side of scrambled eggs and sausage. The pancakes were so fluffy and fresh. We also had a hot vanilla latte with oat milk and that was good too. Overall, prices were great and affordable for a delicious breakfast.
google avatar

Yelp
The place was packed, and people were waiting outside. Food OK. The service was great. Playing 70s music.

Yelp
Marjoria's regularly came up as the breakfast spot in the area and it sounded like there was always a lineup. We walked down to check it out around 9am. It was a pretty nice walk down Canal St and a right. It's not that far off Canal and we could see a small lineup. By the time we got there we got lucky and there was only 2 tables in front of us. There's a canopy here and when the sun is beaming down, you definitely want to be under it. We didn't have to wait for long until somebody came out to check how many we were and in under 15 minutes we were seated. Our waitress came over with a coffee and menu for us. It didn't take long for me to decide on The Monster with bacon, grits, sausage patty and a biscuit. We got our breakfast in no time. The eggs were fine, pretty standard. Bacon and sausage patty were nice. Hash browns got a huge saucing of hot sauce which looks like the popular local brand. Grits were interesting for breakfast, would probably go hash browns next time. It was nicer than I've had in the past but I think to early for me to have them. They were also really cheesy. Biscuit was nice. The staff were awesome and I'd come back for breakfast anytime in the future when I'm back
google avatar

Yelp
Our Uber driver recommended this place for breakfast and so glad we stopped by! Unassuming both on the inside and out but the food is soooo good. Sounds like usually there's a wait but we got lucky and got sat right away. The biscuits are AMAZING, definitely get one - even if you're not a biscuit person. Highly recommend the shrimp po boy, the shrimp and mushroom omelette, and the hash brown skillet.
google avatar

Ella L.

Yelp
Such a cute little place with amazing food! Good service and retro diner decor. The breakfast was so good - do not skip the biscuit!
google avatar

Danielle M.

Yelp
Marjoria's is a quant place for a quick breakfast. I don't know if I'd come back with all of the other breakfast options around, but it wasn't bad, just basic.
google avatar

Kyle B.

Yelp
Very good restaurant located off a block of Canal St. Inside dining is in a small space. But the food is good. Reasonably priced. And biscuits were airy and amazing!!!

Shai T.

Yelp
One of top spot for brunch in town. Locals & tourist love it here. Highly recommended CBB & Sisi's Spicy Chicken. Cute Taylor Swift inspired special drinks too.
google avatar

Tonitini C.

Yelp
It's a diner style quick to get some breakfast and brunch with some mimosas and bloody marys. We got the usual dishes of what tourists grab when you're visitin New Orleans, and the usual poboys and such were on our table. Quick easy, and fast service. It does not seem like a restaurant that you hang out and eat, its more of like "we're hungover from last night, let's get remedied here" and leave type of thing. Straight to the point, easy to pick type of menu.
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
Nice convenient location off of Camp Street near the French Quarter. So what I grasp is that they are mainly a breakfast and lunch restaurant. I came here on the premise of grabbing lunch, possibly some cajun or creole food. What I didn't know is that on the weekend, they only offer a limited brunch menu. I wasn't happy that I had to settle for something that I could get anywhere else, a brunchburger without the egg. On top of this, the price was inflated for an average burger that came plain. The only thing they added was a bacon jam, which was ok. I would recommend that you give options for this brunch burger, mainly cheese and condiments like lettuce and tomato. I had to ask for these?? My daughter enjoyed her cobb salad, and my wife enjoyed her brunch burger with egg. She is more forgiving than me, lol. To end the meal, I had a small strawberry and banana smoothie. Overall, it was a relaxing meal, and I am sure their breakfast is pretty good. I just hope they tweak this brunch only policy on the weekend?
google avatar

Johnnyboy D.

Yelp
I was walking past this restaurant and looked at the menu located in the window, and saw the Cajun shrimp omelette and thought it sounded really good. And it was pretty good. It tasted healthy and Light and the lady that assisted me was really sweet. She handed me the credit card reader and I tried to enter my credit card into every slot available on the machine. Me and a guy that was sitting at the bar laughed really hard together over that. We joked about not finding the correct hole. . I know... distasteful joke. But it was hilarious because I was seriously confused. lol Anyway, the omelet was good and it came with home fries and wheat toast. I would come back for this omelet. I thought I took a picture of the omelette, but I guess I devoured it before I could do that. #greedy lol
google avatar

Kylah G.

Yelp
The food was so yummy we forgot to take pictures! My dad and I shared the monster breakfast. It was more than enough. My mom got the loaded hashbrowns. The oatmilk latte I had was phenomenal! My mom loved her vanilla latte, but the biscuits stole the show! Great breakfast spot while on vacation. Service was friendly and quick, we'll be back.
google avatar

Tressa L.

Yelp
I must have really ordered the wrong thing. I wanted a small breakfast, basically comfort food. I ordered a side of hashbrowns and a side of smoked sausage. Please note that I am from California! The hashbrowns were small pieces of diced potato, and that in itself was a surprise---in California hashbrown are shredded potato. Not an issue, except that the cook had coated the potato pieces in salt. It was inedible. The smoked sausage has a different name in California---we call it Chorizo. Had I realized that I would not have ordered it. It's too spicy for me. The service was prompt and the server was nice, but again in hospitality friendliness is required. Sorry Commerce, maybe I just ordered the wrong food item?
google avatar

Doug S.

Yelp
This little corner restaurant is a gem. The service was quick and efficient. I felt embarrassed with the uncontrolled noises of delight coming from my mouth as I devoured The Cajun shrimp omelette with cheese grits and wheat toast. I savored ever bite and would definitely come back to this restaurant.
google avatar

Jeff H.

Yelp
Majoria's is just around the corner from the International House hotel which we were staying at for our New Orleans trip. Breakfast was delicious and filling. I also stopped there for lunch before heading to the airport. Comfortable. Filling. Nice staff. I'd happily come back.
google avatar

Victoria J.

Yelp
Wow, YUM! The food is so well seasoned and everything even the most basic thing like eggs are prepared so well. I can't get over how tasty the chicken honey biscuit was! Our waitress was very attentive and very friendly! It's a small restaurant but the food and service pack a punch! MUST TRY

Cassidy M.

Yelp
Service was excellent and the food was delicious. The decor is retro and cute!Definitely recommend!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Great local diner! Try the cafe's special breakfast biscuits; so yummy. In fact just take some with you to go. They're that good.
google avatar

Michelle G.

Yelp
We stopped here on Sunday morning at 10am and there was no wait. Food was absolutely amazing and service was great and fast! Super casual diner with relaxed feel and a lot of great coffee options. Even has sugar free options (SF Vanilla and SF caramel) for coffee favors. Amazing place, we would def be back again.
google avatar

Anita B.

Yelp
Casual, reasonable and delicious little cafe near the Intercontinental New Orleans and other hotels. The breakfast sandwich featured the best biscuit I have had so far in NOLA. The catfish poboy was crispy and tasty. All food arrived quickly. We will be back for breakfast or lunch soon. (They close at 2pm.) Ambiance was fine, with good music at reasonable volume. Daniela deserves a special mention for friendliness and helpfulness.
google avatar

Cib S.

Yelp
I was always told, for quick dependable food, eat where the locals eat. That's what this place is. The menu is small, but it has everything you need for breakfast and lunch. The missus had a breakfast order with eggs and toast and I had the shrimp Po' Boy which was good. We sat at the bar because we went in during the lunch rush. The turn around is quick, so if you are waiting, it may be only 15 minutes for a seat. Good dependable food.
google avatar

Theresa H.

Yelp
This place came highly recommended by a Family Member. It's a little eatery with limited tables inside, but we lucked up because it's usually a line outside. But I wasn't impressed, just ok. I got a Shrimp Po-Boy with Fries and Hubby got the Catfish Po-Boy with a side of Mac n Cheese. The Po-Boys were just ok. My Husband was disappointed that it was a very thin piece of Catfish on his Po-Boy and the Mac n Cheese was dry. We were impressed with the Service, the Staff was very friendly and attentive. We might give them a try for Breakfast if we return to NOLA.
google avatar

Michelle T.

Yelp
I came in on a Sunday morning around 8:00am to grab a quick bite to eat before heading over to the convention center. Commerce was near my hotel, maybe a 5 minute walk so it was perfect. I wish I had walked over into the FQ instead, honestly. For my last breakfast in town, I really wanted some shrimp and grits, so I ordered the shrimp and grits. The grits were so watery and bland, even with the shrimp sauce. The shrimp and the sauce was just OK. Definitely not the best I had in town. Service was very nice and very efficient. My meal came out very quickly, although maybe that's why it wasn't the best. The coffee was also just bad. I love diner-style burnt coffee, it's got a certain charm to it. But this coffee was just bad.
google avatar

Jeff S.

Yelp
We stayed across the street at the Magnolia, so I had planned popping in for breakfast. It was very convenient and quick. I did hit this place early and noticed they had people standing out side waiting for a table later in the day. We had a couple of breakfast sandwiches and they were both really good. Only had one hicup with a milk order that was more funny than a problem. I would highly recommend this place if your in The Big Easy!
google avatar

Jon K.

Yelp
The hotel concierge at Le Méridien(Albert) suggested the Commerce for breakfast and we headed straight there. Homey diner atmosphere, clean and bright inside. Fast and friendly staff quick with delicious coffee. Menu of breakfast staples and a few signature dishes- I had the CBB- homemade biscuits smothered in cheesy sausage and jalapeño sauce with two eggs on top! Fantastic flavors. Wife's standard eggs, bacon, toast and home fries looked good too. Highly recommended
