"Makan owner Karen Wee Lin Tan Beckman last week announced that she would close her 6-year-old Platt Park restaurant at the end of December. She and the Panasewiczs are old farmers’ market friends, and it was Beckman’s idea for them to take the lease over, they told Westword. Fans of Denver’s only Malaysian cafe have a little over two weeks to go back for Beckman’s Char Kueh Tiao, a Penang street food staple of stir-fried rice noodles." - Josie Sexton

The food here is absolutely amazing, all cooked by hand, you can watch the chief make your food in the open kitchen! My friends and I all try to go at least once a week and anytime we manage to make it, it is an absolute pleasure. The wait staff is always very helpful, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. The pricing is not too bad, my friends and I are all in college and the pricing is still in our budget. With an appetizer and an entree we are all super stuffed by the end. Honestly, have never had better asian food.

Food was tasty but I was honestly really disappointed with the small serving sizes. You should leave a restaurant feeling full, especially after paying $13 for a dish. You probably won't find many other Malaysian restaurants in Denver. Having traveled through Malaysia SE Asia, I'd say it was definitely good quality of food, and worth trying if you want to see what Malaysian food is like, but not if you want a full stomach. I hope the restaurant owner reads some of these reviews that echo the same thing: I understand that property prices in Denver might be high, but you also want to give a good amount of food so that people come back..

Great food but EXTREMELY small serving sizes. I would recommend people to come here just b/c it's Malaysian food, which is unique. But for $12-$14/dish, I would expect at least 50% more food than what my family got (I mean even the rice serving--which is normally very cheap--was small). It's not Thai or Vietnamese where you can always find different restaurants with different portion sizes. Up to you whether you want to go here multiple times (I personally wouldn't come a 2nd time), but I think it's worth trying once--just don't be surprised with the serving sizes.

The waitress was great and the food did not taste bad. However, like others have said, each item is pricey, portions will still leave you hungry, and food does not taste authentic. Maybe you'll have a better experience, but having grown up eating southeastern food, it just didn't cut it for me.

We came here to celebrate Father's Day. The service was okay. It is a small restaurant. Others are near. It's actually a residential area with Pearl Street running straight through the area. But, the food is overpriced. Those small rolls (below) were over $5 and many of the other dishes were $12-15. I would understand if the food was out-of-this-world and filling, but it wasn't very authentic and it definitely wasn't worth the price we paid. We also left the place hungry even though we had paid over $50 for our meal. Maybe it just happened the kitchen was slacking when we came, but we weren't impressed. I hope it's better for you!

Makan was absolutely delicious. Unique dishes that have a lot of thought put into. The waiting staff was attentive and kind. We ordered See Mia and Rendang Daging which were both amazing and full of flavor. Also the curry puffs are divine, I highly recommend!

This is my second time being here, the first was in 2014. We were around the area and was extremely hungry. No major changes, but there are some noticeable difference. Lets begin with some positive feedback, the waiter was friendly and was very prompt. The food tasted good, passable but honestly not fantastic. I grew up eating and cooking Singaporean & Malaysian cuisine so I know what is expected. Taste wise it's okay, could be better. However, like most reviewers here, I agree that it is extremely pricey. If I pay $12 for a bowl of laksa, it better be phenomenal, unfortunately it fell short of flavor and amount. Hubs and I agree that the quantity has reduced from the last time we went to MMC in 2014. The half bowl I received would be reasonable if it cost $6. And the two curry puff we got was very tiny. Hubs ordered the Beef rendang but it doesn't look nor taste much like rendang, and the beef was dry n the gravy was oddly soupy. The food doesn't taste like it was made fresh, from scratch daily, it taste more like a premix spice mix with coconut milk. Knowing how laksa and rendang are made, this dishes will usually take very long to cook, so I highly doubtful they make a fresh pot of rendang everyday telling from the dry meat. The wait for the appetizers to arrive was incredibly long, 25 minutes for two tiny puffs in an empty restaurant is unacceptable. Luckily my kids have patience. The owner look a little frazzled at the back, but it was just me, hubs and the kids. This place has so much potential, but it needs changes if it wants to stay alive in the next two years or so.

The food was great. Owner is grumpy and not child friendly. My son was playing around with the ikea menu holder and she snatched it from his hands and told him to not play with it or he'll break it. Lot of other eye-rolling with her staff/help as well. It was a shame because the food was good, rest of the staff was great, but the owner can't handle stress and it stresses everyone else out making the dining experience really uncomfortable.
